Walked in here by accident...best thing i did all day! The bowls are a good size, and have the perfect toppings to blend ratio. Fruits are all fresh and you can choose a pitaya, acai, coconut or a green mix as your base. I did half pitaya, half acai and it was really good. They also have smoothies, which i imagine would be great, given their bowls and fresh ingredients. Bowls are $9-10, kind of pricey but totally worth it, especially because it's healthy. Perfect summer meal, i'll definitely be coming back. Let me preface this by saying I used to love playa bowls. However, playa bowls is now a total fail. I went in to get an oatmeal bowl and I was appalled with what I saw. Not only does the oatmeal come from a plastic bag, it was cold and chunky. If that wasn't bad enough, I saw my fruit being cut right next to open cleaning products!!! Rude girl at register ripped us off twice. We ordered trailblazer bowl . We got a small plastic jar instead a third of the size. She said this is new size when people before us got the regular size. We were going to call the police how crazy and unfair this was. They did it twice to us. She said they made bowls smaller because people don't eat the whole thing . Then they hid the smaller bowls in a bag when they give it to you. Why do they make them in the back where you cant see what they are doing? Disgusting never going back. I feel like this place really suffers from not having older management in place. The young workers definitely bring a fun energy and "hipness" if you will to this Instagram ready establishment. However, if you're going to charge me $9 for a smoothie I need some basic customer service elements to be in place first. Today I was presented with a bright pink frozen drink with tablespoons of frozen product messily dripping down the side. I reached out and it dripped all over my hand and sleeve. When I recoiled and asked for it to be wiped down, I was told I could get a napkin from across the way. No apology. I had to insist that the drink was wiped down, much to the chagrin of the young lady who looked like she was desperately trying not to roll her eyes. Other examples on past visits include a filthy bathroom with paper towels all over the floor, two workers standing at the front desk watching YouTube videos despite having a line, and people talking, dancing, and socializing while making drinks when the line is 15 people deep. A business simply can't be run this way. The food is fresh and tasty but service is inefficient at best, unprofessional at worst. Finally, why is the trash can in a food establishment one that has a lid that needs to be lifted and touched? On one visit, I had to throw something away mid meal and was disgusted to have to touch the trash. read more

I can only speak for the poke bowls but they were extremely disappointing. My husband and I ordered delivery of the two of the salmon avocado bowls and they were missing the alfalfa sprouts, wasabi peas, and spicy mayo, that's half the ingredients! I called to let them know and see if I could get a partial refund and while they did apologize and said they couldn't refund me that they would email me vouchers for poke bowls, they took my email but needless to say they never sent the vouchers. Overall, an extreme disappointment with poor customer service, especially because these poke bowls are much more expensive than all the other places in the area. read more

I used to love coming to playa before they moved to the new location which is much nicer and more spacious, but the staff is ridiculous. Every time I've come in after getting off work in the evening there's the same girls working there who don't even try to hide their annoyance at the customers. I've worked in food service myself so I understand that it's annoying when someone comes in 10 minutes before the store close, but I don't think that coming into a store that closes at 10 at 9 is that ridiculous. The employees are always rude, make it clear that you're bothering them, and even start stacking all the chairs way before close. I've tried to go in multiple times to buy a juice only to be told that it's already been taken apart and washed for the night. For the price of the menu I expect a lot better service, and definitely will not be returning any time soon. read more

I was a little surprised by my bowl. I haven't been there in about 2 months and the granola was changed. Didn't care for it, liked the other granola, the bowl had watery acai that was barely frozen. NOT making base fresh, leaving it in blender too long. What's going on??? 7 people behind the counter place was empty and I still had to wait 10 minutes for a smoothie. I asked for a smoothie with acai and if they could add mango. IT was terrible, no mango just all acai. And a ridiculous price of $8. Had a very similar experience at the Belmar location. read more

Loved it! I brought my kids here for an "after church snack" last Sunday (we attend right across the street) so the location is great! It was a little busy but the girls behind the counter were so friendly and accommodating I didn't mind waiting at all! They helped us choose bowls based off what my kids like (they're picky eaters, and it was our first time trying a Playa Bowl) and thanked us for waiting! Loved the atmosphere, super family friendly! When done well, the bowls are fantastic. With that said, the product is inconsistent. The price recently increased for their Acai nutella bowl and they overfill the bowl with granola rather than the smoothie base. I've first discovered Playa bowls in Belmar and was hooked ever since. When I found out they were going to open one in Montclair I was ecstatic. Since they've opened I've gone a whole bunch of times. The new location is nice and much bigger. I have since stopped going because the waiting time is horrendous! I was in the mood for it today and said let me give them another shot. I went in and noticed the long line but I waited. I ordered a 20 oz Pink Pitaya shake. As I'm patiently waiting I start noticing people who ordered after me getting their orders. I'm not one to complain but after still waiting I started to get annoyed. I noticed it was now 13 mins since I ordered and still no shake. Like how long does it take to make a damn shake. A bowl takes more time! I finally asked the girl who was cutting the tuna for the poke bowls who also looked annoyed. I explained to her I was waiting 14 mins for a shake and that everyone before and after me received their orders. She checked for me and it was sitting in the back! Are you kidding me!! No apology nothing! They need to be more attentive with orders especially since Playa bowls isn't cheap. I won't be returning. read more
