Moved to town a couple months ago and have been here three times now. Each meal has been excellent. The decor is very inviting and much more elaborate than you find in many Mexican restaurants. The bar area seems adequate and there are usually at least a few folks there, though I've seen it packed out as well. They have specials a few nights a week and live music occasionally, but though we haven't been to any music events. Each time we have been, the service has been on point, very quick and everyone has been very pleasant. The taco Tuesday special has $1 beef or chicken soft or crunchy (above par crunch) tacos and $2.25 street tacos. There are also some good discounts for lunch on Tuesday and Thursday. Drink specials most nights as well. I'm not sure why this place doesn't have higher reviews. We have been very impressed with each visit. read more

My family and I visited Plaza Azteca this past weekend, and my experience was such that I find myself here reviewing it. The outdoor space is nice, but the experience is terrible. We walked in, requested to be outside, and found ourselves a picnic table. The hard rock band booked was an interesting choice for the dinner hour, but whatever. We ordered dinner at the bar (which you have to order outside), which included guacamole and chips. The staff never told us to wait for the guacamole and chips, nor did they come to find us. We had to sit there and look around at the folks with chips, then go back to the bar and wait in line to finally get our appetizer. Indeed, when we ordered, we DID ask if the food was picked up at the bar or brought to our table (we were given a number) and they indeed said to our table. They were quite aware it was our first time there - that was mentioned to them by us. Something in the guacamole had this crazy effect on my son - he is twelve - and he started asking for water. He appeared distressed about whatever he had just eaten. So I go to the outside bar and ask for a little water. They could sell me a bottle, but they don't have cups. They told me to go inside and ask at the inside bar, which was fine. So I go inside, and after I ask for just a little water for my son, they tell me I have to buy something. I tell them I've already spent $80 on dinner outside, and I am told I still have to buy something. Classy. So... gotta say... this place is dead to me. My wife hated the guacamole, I thought it was fine (you know my son's response). The entrees were fine I guess. The service and the policies... well, I will never go again and regret ever setting foot in there if they can't give a small cup of water for a kid. It is absolutely the least one could ask for, and the least a restaurant could provide. read more

Upon entry, you're greeted with a welcomed smell of clean. The dining area was very clean. I was with a group of colleagues. The salsa was fresh and tasty. Overall out of 5 people, 3 of our dishes were BLAND! NO SEASONING, NO SPICES. I had the veggie fajita. Once I requested fajita seasoning and spices, it was good. The other 2 guest, just sent their dishes back and did not bother ordering anything else. It's a no for me. read more

Great find while spending some time in the VA area, I actually found them on Yelp and decided to give them a chance. They were very busy, we were seated promptly and given menus. Our waitress was very nice, but we had to keep asking for items, he had too many tables for one person. I blame that on staffing issues. The food was good, nothing special. Lots of flavor and everything seemed fresh. I would recommend if they would be more professional and attentive to paying customers. read more

My go to Mexican restaurant in Waynesboro! They recently just changed the name to Plaza Antigua and got a new menu and added a "make your own bowl", which I got this time and it was delicious! Before I always got the number 10 dinner combo because I love tacos and their Mexican rice but the bowl was really good too. You get chips and salsa to snack on while you wait for your food and the staff are all friendly. read more

Save your time, effort, energy and MONEY! The pro's -- customer service was absolutely great. Everyone was friendly and very responsive and respectful. That's where everything else goes downhill... I'm not sure if it's because we arrived a half hour before closing-- but I feel that if it's a half hour after opening or prior to closing your food and presentation should always represent your reputation to keep your customers coming back. We ordered seafood chimichangas and a shrimp kale Caesar salad-- the both should've went in the garbage disposal! The salad-- the salad did NOT have kale, actually what it had was the decorative green lettuce that you use for fruit or ice displays! There were cheese cubes and what appeared to be the bottom of the bag crumbles of the croutons on top-- a mess. Chimichangas -- imitation crab meat to start and the entire dish just looked like slop! Not good 1 star is me being kind .. 1). Menu is very limited to expensive meals and sticky like they have not been cleaned . Your not going to be able to order you standard À la cart things. unless your willing to pay 12.00 plus for a meal. 2) The Service was not good we actually got up a left. We were seated . Had a basket of chips a salsa put on our table. Waited 15 minutes before the waitress came. All we ask for at the time was to please bring us some water. 20 more minutes went by and we left and went across the street to Exxon and purchased some bottle water. I watched the couple across from us try ordering drinks and the waiter came back 3 different times to tell them the drinks they ordered were unavailable. I live near two Plaza Azteca's, so I assumed that by going to this Plaza Azteca, that it was similar to the other two that I live near because it's a chain. I was even excited that they had a location in Virginia. l thought that this Plaza would taste the same, but it was very different. I'm not going to say Plaza Azteca is authentic Mexican in any way, it's more Tex Mex and it's generally flavorful. I can't tell if that is how people like it in this location, but the meat was very bland. I ordered my usual dish and it just wasn't the same. I should have known because usually the locations near me, I have to wait at least 20 minutes to be seated on a Friday night and there weren't that may people in this location. For those of you who do not know, Plaza Azteca has now change their name to PLAZA ANTIGUA!! They also have added a beautiful seating area outside of the restaurant that is behind it (toward Home Depot). It's shaded and they have a pavilion for Entertainment and Special Events. This place is beautiful and has a nice selection of food. They also provided fresh guacamole table side, if that is something your interested im or like, I personally think it's very yummy. Had hopes despite reading a lot of negative reviews but I have to agree with most of them. Staying at a nearby hotel we decided to give it a try. We were promptly seated outside and ordered a couple beers. Then waited for 20 minutes to put in our food order. Definitely not worth the wait as we waited for at least another 45 minutes for just quesadillas and street tacos to come out. Food and service below average. Would not return. read more

We haven't been here since the name change, previously wasn't overly impressed. Friday nights in a small town during covid has really been a crap shoot. Seemed pretty busy, there were only 2 of us we were seated immediately. Nice staff, they had a special on fajitas. I had the steak, wife had the chicken. Very tasty, good portions. The real stand out was the vegetables. In most fajita dishes locally they are either under cooked (I like mine soft) or cooked in way too much oil, so the veggies and meat are usually saturated. This was a great balance of flavor, not too much oil, and cooked to perfection for us. It also arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. The only thing that wasn't great was either it was open mic night or the entertainment. Visiting family and everyone has the flu, I've been down 4 days and just started craving a chile relleno. We ordered from Plaza Antigua as they were the only one that offered chile rellenos in the area. Nice selection of meals and appetizers. The order was delivered and arrived quickly but was missing the tortillas for the fajita dishes. Once the error was addressed a new order of fajitas was delivered with tortillas. Above and beyond with the new dishes. To sum it up guacamole was superb, 3 item combo meal very tasty, and fajita dishes were tender and tasty. We will definitely order from Plaza Antigua again. Absolutely the WORST place to eat. Unprepared, unfriendly, and never getting my money again. Sitting here now currently going on an hour waiting for ONE. CHEESE. ENCHILADA. My mother made reservations here a week ago and when we came they acted like it never even happened. After going for rounds about it, we were told that it would be 45 mins for the wait. That DID not sit with me. We ended up sitting here outside. SO. What kind of place serves ONLY canned drinks outside? The kind of place that also tells you you're not allowed to have a pitcher of tea outside. I cannot make this up. The people here are apprehensive as hell and think you're out to get them. read more

Went there last Thursday,the food we got was absolutely the worse ever. The service was even more pathetic the food, the waitress stood at least 3 feet from our table when setting the plates down. The reason my wife and I stopped here was for the tableside guacamole, and it did not disappoint. For a person who did not like guacamole, I found it delicious. I also ordered the pork tacos and a margarita. Don't know what the pork tacos are called on the menu, but I enjoyed them very much. What I even enjoyed more was the margarita. It was the Patron Margarita on the menu, and I found it to be perfect. I thought the prices here were very reasonable. My wife and I both agree that we will be back for more tableside guacamole and margaritas. read more

We had one amazing server who looked like he hated his job for a rehearsal dinner containing about 9 people. We had two pregnant lady's in our party and one had to wait an hour and a half just to get her food. I am a local. I can honestly say, after coming here several times, the food is mediocre and very high priced for the taste. Service is hit or miss. I ordered fajitas tonight and it took 30 mins, at least, to get my food. Not to mention the lag in beverage service. In the beginning of me coming here I was impressed...but the more regular I come, the more I realize it was just the honeymoon effect. 8+ for table-side guacamole is a bit overrated. It's good...but you have to tip as well. The food is kinda bland but creative in its presentation. The salsa is horrible. I suggest asking for the habanero salsa. It's hot but needs salt and flavor. Drinks...phenomenal. I like the organic margarita. Of course the drinks are good, Lee is at the bar. If only I could get my drinks in a timely manner. The only reason I gave three stars tonight was because my server was obviously over booked with tables, therefor I'm giving an extra star. That is a management issue, not my servers fault. I had to go to the bar, after waiting 10 minutes, to politely ask them to deliver my drinks. We were pleasantly surprised by our first visit to Plaza Azteca. My wife ordered her usual Chicken Chimichanga and I ordered the Chori Pollo, a version of my usual. We'll be adding it to the list of Mexican restaurants we frequent. === POSITIVES === Food had good Mexican flavors, but not very spicy. If, like us, your version of SPICY is what others consider mild, then you'll enjoy the selections. The flavors were so good that even though I was completely stuffed, I still wanted to eat more. Service was fast. REALLY FAST! We ordered Queso Fundido to go with our chips and it arrived at our table shortly after we got our drinks. Shortly before we finished the dip, our meals arrived. Perfect timing! Portions were large. Both of us took home about 1/3 of our meal for lunch the next days. Servers with good language skills. I'm not trying to be harsh, but I often run into language barrier issues at other Mexican restaurants when trying to make such simple modifications to my dish such as "no beans, extra rice." That wasn't a problem here. Table-side guacamole service. We didn't order it ourselves, but a nearby table ordered the guacamole and we saw it made table-side. Nothing like fresh guacamole in a GINORMOUS bowl! === NEGATIVES === I had a really hard time finding anything negative about our experience beyond pricing and seating. The prices seemed a bit higher than other Mexican restaurants in the area. However, given the positives, this probably won't be a real issue for us in the future. The booths have REALLY high seating. I'm just under 6-feet tall and my feet BARELY touched the floor. My shorter wife's feet never touched. It makes you kind of feel like you're in an Alice in Wonderland skit or something. read more

Most of the staff is friendly, but we only ordered 2 drinks and 2 entrees and were there nearly two hours. Our appetizer took 35 minutes, our drinks took 25 minutes and our food took another 30 minutes. The food is good, but they do not offer any sour cream, guacamole, or veggies with your entree; as many other Mexican restaurants do. This place used to be great, but I won't go back just for dinner ever again. We love the live music, but it simply takes too long to receive anything you order. read more

I'm staying at a hotel across the street from this place and I wasn't expecting a five-star restaurant but this is hands-down the worst fajitas I've ever had everything tasted like they scraped it off someone else's plate and then handed it to me there was no lettuce no tomatoes the worst fajitas I've ever had in my life they were not edible the tortillas they sent fell apart in clumps they were so hard it was $36 for this order to have it delivered and I would not order it again I wouldn't even go in the restaurant to try their food after this!!! Again delivery food you don't expect the best but this was not edible it was worse than cat food everything was hard including the rice!!! Do yourself a favor and eat at Texas Roadhouse! OR go buy a TV dinner!! read more
