Salmon BLT and Burger
Abby S.

My husband and I had lunch here and it was really good and affordable. I had a salmon BLT with fries and my husband had a burger and both were really good. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small so we sat outside. The weather was good so it was enjoyable, but the outdoor seating could be better. The service was great though and our food came out pretty quickly. Definitely recommend!

This was our first time at the River Burger Bar. The inside is cozy with a few booths, low and high top tables and a bar. We were able to seat ourselves at the last available table, it was very busy for a Saturday afternoon. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress. They have a good selection of craft Virginia beers and cocktails. The menu has a variety of burgers and options for chicken/turkey/veggie burgers. There are also some non burger options. We ordered the cheese curds for the table, they were delicious! I loved the dipping sauce that came with them. I opted for the chicky wrap with fried chicken and upgraded to fries. The wrap was okay, smaller than I thought it would be and didn't come with the sauce that it was supposed to come with. The fries were seasoned well and very tasty. The burgers looked great. The chips and onion rings were also good. I'd like to come back and try a burger and their Bloody Mary. Over all a great addition to down town Waynesboro!!

Ate here passing through to a cabin weekend and we wanted dinner before checking in. It was very busy on a Friday night we had a little over a half hour wait but they have wait seating which made it easy. This is a classic burger restaurant and has a fun casual vibe. Both burgers were delicious and cooked perfectly. The house chips were perfect and better than French fries. The spicy ranch that's given with the cheese curds was the best part. If were are even in Waynesboro again I would go again.

From the appetizers to the burgers and tater tots. Everything was so delicious. Our server was on it. Seating people, cleaning tables, taking orders. I had to ask if he was the owner. I didn't catch his name. But he was great. The decor was very inviting and the music was great. Not to loud not to low. Overall great food great experience. Will definitely recommend and swing by next time we are in VA.

What a neat little place to have some really good food. First time eating there but it definitely won't be my last. It has officially been added to our lineup of places to eat when we go to wintergreen. You can tell it's a locals favorite because soon after we got there it got packed. We were happy we made it before the lunch rush. Servers were friendly but they definitely cater to the locals. They knew them by name and what they had going on. The food was really good. I think I was on a nacho kick this time around. Everywhere I went it seems like that's what I was appetizing and these were pretty amazing. What I liked most is that everything was stacked on their freshly made chips. Definitely a different take on nachos but it worked so well that all others were compared to them. Can't wait to go back!

Rustic eating area... functional.

We were passing through town looking for a place to eat when we discovered the River Burger Bar. What a phenomenal restaurant! Calling it a burger joint does not do it justice. This is fine cuisine on a bun! And the service is just as great as the food. My wife ordered their Fun Guy burger which is topped with mushrooms and goat cheese. I got the Sundrop burger which is topped with bacon, cheddar cheese and a runny egg. Both came out within 10 minutes, incredibly juicy and flavorable. The burgers come with their own homemade chips which I thought was just a bit too thick, but were still very tasty. We added a side of Lunker fries which are topped with large bacon chunks and more cheddar cheese. Everything was so pipping hot, we almost couldnt eat it. Afterwards, stuffed as we were, we felt compelled to try their Red Velvet cake which was equally wonderful. The entire meal was an unexpected, unexcelled experience. If you are anywhere near Waynesboro, you owe it to yourself to stop in at the River Burger Bar!

That's a big burger!

I really enjoyed the burger I had here, even if I did have to eat it with a knife and fork. The thing was massive! And the cheese and bbq sauce were overflowing. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it again. I didn't bother with a side of fries or anything as I had a pretzel as an appetizer and knew I just wouldn't be able to eat anything else. I would hold off on the pretzel next time though because it was a bit harder than I like, and most of the flavor came from the mustard and not the pretzel itself. The real reason to go back though is the staff. The guy working the bar was super friendly, and you could tell he just really liked his job. His interactions with the customers were genuine, and he even handled a fairly inebriated older lady hitting on him with grace. He sort of reminded me of Sam from Cheers if you're old enough to get the reference.

I've passed by this spot a thousand times and never thought to go in--tucked, as it is, in the…read morecorner of a large parking lot and abutted by big box stores, it didn't necessarily call out to me. Well thank goodness I finally decided to nip in to 3rd Generations Grill last evening for a hot meal and a cold beer after a long day. I was quite happy with the experience. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but the dining room is large, open, and features a nice bar at the back with a decent selection of draft beer (sadly no dark options for the porter- and brown ale-loving crowd) and sundry spirits. The walls are plastered with rock & roll posters (they get extra credit for the Ziggy Stardust poster on the left side of the room as you enter) and the space is clean and well lit without being antiseptic and blazing. I think with a larger crowd (it was a bit sparse on my visit) the room could be a bit loud, so if quiet is your thing maybe plan for a low traffic time. After negotiating a workaround for the QR code-based online menu (I deduct a full star if that's my only option for ordering because I think it's poor service), I ordered the Generator burger from my very friendly, helpful, and service-forward bartender. What's great is I told him what I was looking for and he competently guided me to one of the best burgers I've had in a while. Double smashed patty, double bacon, cheese, onion. I added lettuce and tomato because I want to dupe myself into believing I had a vegetable that evening. Comes with side of their hand-cut fries and is a hearty portion of well prepared food. When I say this is a two-handed-eat-over-the-plate-like-a-caveman burger, that's exactly what it is. Thing is a monster of beautiful beef and bacon and cheese (sorry vegans, try again). Oh, and the food came out in good time--not fast food, but good food fast. I have a minor quibble with the fries which, while hand cut and nicely seasoned, were a bit under and kinda soggy. Not inedible, but could be better. I think if they blanched the fries before the final cook they'd achieve a crispier outside with that nice cushy potato centre you want in a French fry. But that's the only quibble. Service: six stars Food: four stars Ambiance: four stars Value: five stars I'll be going back again, for sure. No photos this time because I am a pig man and I tend to eat half my plate before my brain says, "hey! Yelp review inbound!"

The bartender was also server and was very friendly. He is why it is 4 stars. The food was pretty good. My burger was cooked well and the fries were very good. Dad enjoyed his fried shrimp. Bathroom was clean and it wasn't busy for lunch on a Thursday. Looks like they have fun things in the evenings. I would go back if I'm in the area.

The space itself gives you a family bar feeling. Looks like it would be a great locals spot. They had enough tables for any size groups and it was very clean. For appetizers we had the fried pickles and pork rinds. I'd give the fried pickles a 2/5, they had flavor but lacked crunch. The breading was missing on 80% of the pickle. The pork rinds, FRIEND, those were probably the highlight of my meal. The sizzle and pop, the crunch, flavor...I'm drooling just thinking about them again. I don't think I can ever have them from a bag again. 5/5 Main Coarse we ordered the mac-n-skilled with pulled pork, the kids chicken taco with tots, brisket stuff shells, and brisket Philly cheesesteak with a side of hush puppies. Mac-n-skillet, the meat was a tad bit dry but had a good amount of cheese. Creamy. Only downside was the pork. 3.5/5. The Brisket Philly was cheesy, meat was good, great flavor just a bit too greasy. Hush puppies were good, nothing stood out in particular. 4/5. The kids chicken taco and tots were ok. Not enough cheese and the tortilla was hard, tots were just right. 3.5/5. The brisket stuffed shells were unique, loved the flavor just a bit too much cheese to meat ratio for me personally. The brisket was cooked perfectly. Would order again. 5/5 We were in and out in less than an hour. We were never rushed and the atmosphere was warm. The prices are reasonable as well.

I appreciated the selection of local beers on draft too. Found prices to be very reasonable these days. Next, the sides are out of this world. The green beans and collard greens really compete with the best Grammy homemade ones. Mac and cheese, hush puppies, and chicken tenders were on point. I thought the portion sizes were good for $3 sides. I had the ahí tacos and a side of brisket. lol. I wanted to try the brisket! The tacos has a nice flavor with an excellent sauce but the tuna was unseasoned. The biggest issue is the taco sat in juices from the toppings and became soggy quickly. A little easier on the toppings and it would be a really good dish. The brisket. Man if you hype up your bbq it better be on point. It was not. Crazy crazy dry and not really tender either. I got the flavor they intended with the oak smoke but that was really poorly cooked brisket. If you can find a good main dish everything else is lined up for a great meal. Maybe make a meal of the sides? :)
