I was looking for a place to get a quick snack while waiting for an appointment, so I decided to stop into Plaza Latina. I'm so glad I did! The bakery is EXCEPTIONAL. The selection of pastries and breads is vast, and they have many classic Mexican pastry options, such as (what I think is called) a concha. They come in multiple colors, but the yellow stood out to me. It's chewy with a slight crunch and perfect level of sweetness and a light fluffy texture. I don't have any other pastry to compare it to, so you'll just have to get one for yourself! The price was great too, the pastry and a bottled water was $3.91. The cashier was efficient. It's not much to look at from the outside, and the inside isn't anything special. I was also hoping an employee greeted me when I walked through the door, but it wasn't a big deal. Love this place. I mostly come to Plaza Latina to grab carne al pastor and their fresh salsas, which are authentic and taste great. It's one of my go-to spots when I want ingredients that actually taste authentic. They've got a great selection of freshly baked pastries, fresh produce/meat, and tons of South and Central American goodies you don't usually see at regular grocery stores. This was my first visit to Plaza Latina (12/19/24) after driving past it forever on 99/Aurora in Shoreline. It was pouring rain, the front angle parking slots were full, but thankfully The Homie told me about the marked spots located behind the building. Note: I think this would be a bit of a challenge if one had mobility issues. Back parking lot is uneven and sloped. The aisles inside are a bit narrow and some packed with additional products. Space clearly is of a premium. Just saying as an fyi. I can see why this is popular with a variety of Latino grocery items, fresh produce, dry sundries, frozen items, meat and cheese section, hot food occasionally, and baked goods which are baked onsite judging from the display area and speed carts nearby. Just wished there were signage on the baked goods like the refrigerated desserts. Shop with caution if you have allergies, I guess. We stopped in for a quick peep and picked up two items. The checkout line looked daunting, but surprisingly with three folks working the registers, it went fast. Plaza Latina is popular. Plaza Latina Hungry and heard they offer great hot tamales. Stopped by and the first thing I was surprised by, is the big size of this store. There is an incredible selection of items here. Starting out with the large variety of baked goods. So many choices and full cakes too. They had a delicious looking flan, with a chocolate cookie crust that called to me. Also, tres leches cake. I picked the tres leches cake up and it had a surprisingly pleasing hefty weight to the large slice. Looking forward to devouring that slice by the end of the day today. A huge butcher section, with many pre marinated meats. I saw one of my favorites, oxtail and chicken. Next, a hot bar where I got my tamales. They offered other selections , such as tacos. Going on to further explore the store, discovered many other things to see. Big selection of household goods. Nice selection of many Frozen items. So many offerings of fresh produce, some I have never seen here before. They offer money transfer services and something I have never seen before: Phones where you could call overseas for a flat rate. Continuing on my findings, So many snacks I have never heard of. Fresh tortillas. Impressive variety of salsas. A lot of tasty looking snacks in containers, I was tempted to try. I came here with baby granddaughter in a stroller. People were so good to me, opening the doors for me and greeting me warmly. So nice to be in a welcoming space. The two pork tamales were 6.00. What a bargain. And they were great. I come here many times for snacks and desserts. I love their Tres Leches and Flan. I also love that pork rinds were always so warm so fresh and so cheap. BUY PORK RINDS HERE. Beef jerky was cheap too, they were thin, crunchy, not so much flavor. Grocery area didnt look fresh. Pastries bread area had flies, looked dirty. Everyone touched the same tong. The place is always so small and so crowded. Parking in front is narrow, in and out is tricky, fits about 7-8 cars. There is more parking in back but its dark and dirty back there. Inside is also so small so crowded so much stuffs. I mean its a heaven of Latino food selection but its hard to do any social distance, as the aisles are enough for 1 person. read more

Growing up in Texas, you are spoiled with ready access to excellent panaderías and taquerías. A friend of mine suggested this place when I lamented that I hated paying a mark up for a particular spice blend. I came here recently though because I needed to get a bunch of pan dulces for a camping trip. Walking in, I went right to the bakery and began loading up my plastic tray with an assortment of treats. They even have doughnut boxes for transport so the goodies stayed intact. I couldn't find any Marranitos (my husband's favourite) so I asked one of the bakery ladies. She I selected four of those plump piggies and they smelled beautifully of molasses! While I waited in line to check out, I impulse bought some macaroons that were beside the register. I heard they had alfajores too but I didn't easily find them, so next time. I will definitely return to check out their hot tables, buy some fresh tortillas, and other goods! read more

I recently moved to Shoreline and I'm really happy to live near this place. It's a nice selection of Latin ingredients, mostly Mexican but also from some S. American countries, fresh pan dulces and desserts, a butcher area, and produce. Their flan is dangerously good. Lots of different Mexican and other cheeses, both commercially packaged and bulk at the counter. The produce is hit-or-miss but all the basics and i usually find something I've never seen before, like evilly spiny prickly pear fruit and also evilly spiny chayotes. ;-) The people who work there are so nice and friendly, it makes me want to go to Mexico tomorrow. There's a little steam table serving lunch for takeout, it's really hearty filling stuff. Also Mexican laundry detergent and cleaning products are a LOT better deal than their American counterparts. ;-) read more

Yeay! I'm a fan. Plenty of Peruvian products, even the seasonal ones. I also found really good Pork and other meats and a really good price. The -1 start is because it's NOT definitely the most comfortable place to shop, tight narrow hallways; their back freezers are a mess! and Yes, they do carry expired frozen products (but they are frozen!)... anyways, I think they may be understaffed and not have a good system to clean and re-stock their products :-/ (but yeah, as someone says, it does feel like another country inside; think of it as part of the charm) I am also really glad they are open late, as you know, people work... late. * I changed my rating from 4 to 5, because NYC bodegas are the same way... :) read more

This is a really nice market and very busy. The traffic explains why. They have a huge selections of meats if you have preference for making carne asada, al pastor which is pork, even oxtails and prices are very competitive. Great prices per pound. I bought 5 pounds of the carne asada during Cinco de Mayo. It was well marinated and so good after a perfect grill. This market also carries produce, all sorts of canned and fresh salsas, other cannned goods for your other cooking, already cooked foods in one corner of the store, baked breads, so many things to explore all in one store. Everybody's friendly too. My son told me about this place since he tried some already-marinated pork al pastor. That was good as well. I highly recommend this store. I will return to explore this entire store to see what I can learn. By the way, one cockroach can't hurt. I've seen them in all places while doing groceries and / or eating somewhere! This place is awesome. We got a cake and to our surprise it had tres leche as the bottom layer. The strawberry filling is so yummy and it was my favorite kind of frosting. Not to sound melodramatic, but I was desperate when I found Plaza Latina. Early last year I was on a search for frozen empanada dough. You know, the kind that comes pre-made in a disk shape separated by plastic? I drove around the Greater Seattle area and was disappointed by every mercado I went to. They all sold colorful Mexican items, but nothing from Argentina. Plaza Latina was my last hope. Tucked away in a non-descript strip mall on Aurora, it's easy to miss. But when you find it, you will be delighted. Not only do they sell frozen empanada dough, they also sell chimichurri, yerba mate, alfajores, dulce de leche and quince paste. Not to mention their variety of spices, beverages, flours and fresh baked goods. I'm not sure if it's a family owned operation, but it sure feels that way. . as in everyone who enters is treated like family. Small establishment, but stocked well. My husband was pleased that (after ten years of marriage) I finally made empanadas the way he grew up eating them. Now, if only I could learn Spanish. read more

The name says it all. This small Hispanic plaza features a grocery market accompanied with a restaurant, bar, and tiny hair salon. The market is primarily Peruvian themed, although I love that their staff are Hispanics of many ethnic and national backgrounds. They pride themselves in empowering the Latino community. Great store for so many items! From pastries, to canned goods, to snacks, they have a pretty good sized selection for the space they are in. I drive by here all the time and have stopped periodically over the years. I stopped this weekend to get some of my favorite ice pops. Don't ask why I craved such an icy cold treat in the middle of winter but that's what happened. As expected, they had them for a reasonable price and I left the store happy with 6 of them. This is also a great place to pick up beverages that may not be found in regular stores. They have Jarritos (which has become more mainstream over the years) and the lesser known in some areas Inca Cola. I need to spend more time browsing here and just haven't made the time, which I will very soon. read more

Any place that carries two different brands of Huitlacoche is a rock star in my book, and although I'm by no means an expert in Mexican/Latina/South American cuisine, this placed had more Latina products than I've seen anywhere else, and they had an amazing fresh pastry case, which I need to come back and try sometime. My girlfriend introduced me to this place, and it's a nice little gold mine with bolillos, Inca Cola, Mexican breads, etc. It compares pretty well to Seattle's Carneceria Azteca without being a carneceria (butcher shop). I highly recommend this place for people who live in the area. read more

Walked in and immediately got the smell of the pan dulce...already winning. Clean store, nicely stocked shelves with a variety of latinamerican products. I found all my Mexican favorites, from different dried chiles, to chorizo, queso fresco, to conchas and other pan dulce that were easily the best I've had in Seattle. They sell fresh handmade tortillas in a limited amount...legit. The only reason they dont get 5 stars is because a couple pieces of their carne asada in their deli case were starting to look a little old. I will definitely be back there. Hope they come thru for me every time! Only other store I've seen that is comparable is Guadalupe in Burien (bigger store). This is good, though. Closer to my Lynnwood crib. Better chorizo here. Being Peruvian was happy to find lots of items from Peru such as chicha, panettone, emoliente, bottled ají pastes, seasonings, etc. As well as frozen items like olluco, ají amarillo, choclo, fruit pulps, papa amarilla, whole cuy (for ~$20) and Argentinian chorizo (same type used in Peru and different to the Mexican or Spanish type). I find the frozen stuff way better than the bottled ones so this is my new to-go place. read more

This place has an amazing bakery and grocery, but something I noticed no one has talked about are the sandwiches! You can order them from the bakery counter. They come on freshly baked huge rolls, have tons of fresh ingredients and are very inexpensive for such large portions. We routinely go there for lunch and have been happy every time. The worst customer service ever! I send my son to buy carnitas and they sold him, half of the weight of fat and even a tongue. I went the day after to claim for this and they didn't accept their mistake, they said I was the one who was mistaken as I was not clear that I just wanted the carnitas! They charge $7 per pound and sell you whatever they want and it even isn't hygienical, can you believe a tongue within a pound of carnitas????. I will never buy anything again from this store and I would highly recommend you to be very careful with what you buy in case you decide to go. read more
