Pluckemin Inn is a very nice restaurant that has an extra cozy vibe in the winter time. I came here in early December and the place just felt very comfortable and inviting. There are two sections. One consisting of a bar area, and the other consisting of a really nice restaurant with multiple levels. I dined in the bar area with friends. Drinkwise, I had a few rum old fashioneds, which were just ok. As for food, I had their burger, which was fairly average. Portion wise the dish was fine, but the burger didn't really stand out in my opinion. Given how much I love the vibe and set up of the place, I expected the food/drinks to be a little better. The server was also fairly rude as he appeared to be upset that we were taking longer than he'd like to order. Walked away a few times rolling his eyes and glaring at us... One thing to note, this place has an EPIC wine cellar. I walked downstairs and looked through the floor to ceiling glass at the endless supply of amazing wines they have. Well I am always hesitant of travelling far into the suburbs to try a place. Some of my colleagues live close to this establishment and were able to convince me to drive down here on a Thursday evening for a small after work fun session. I had a heard a lot about this place from my co workers and this restaurant was awarded the 2011 Wine Spectator's Grand Award. I was very excited to try this place because of all this hype. This place actually looks like a Bed and Breakfast house from the outside though it is just a restaurant. We walked close to 6 in the evening(we were 8 of us). This place has a really nice decor and I like the look and feel of the place. It has a medieval look because of the amount of wood used in the restaurant. As we walked in, the female hostess welcomed us. Since it was sunny we wanted to sit on the patio but it had just drizzled some time back. So the male hostess checked the weather and said there are slim chances of rain again in the evening. The hostess and the staff quickly arranged a table for us at the patio. I started with a glass of Merlot and my friends ordered the Margaritas. One of my friends felt that his Margarita was too light and he informed the server. So the next margarita came out which met his expectations. I really like the Spring forward cocktail which is basically a mojito. We had the romaine salad, fries, the in house potato chips, margherita pizza. The food was really good specially the fried and pizza, I loved that mayo which came out with the fries. The service was awesome. They staff here definitely know how to take care of the patrons. We never felt that we had to wait for the server during our stay. Though the place was really good, I just felt it was not that awesome that it deserves five stasr. I know they did win an award last year but did feel their food menu is bit overpriced. read more

I ate here less than a week ago, and the only taste left in my mouth is bitter from the snotty service. Seriously, our waiter was an absolute ASS! We sat at the tables near the bar. How it started: Me: "Excuse me, can I have a menu" Him: "Um what do you call that" Me: "Actually its just dessert, unless I missed something" Him: Rolls eyes hard, "Oh, here" Then we order and we're sitting have an OK meal, it was good, but nothing to write home about. Crabcakes didn't appear to even compare to Delicious Heights. The mussels were pretty good. We have another friend meeting us there and our waiter goes - "well you better order soon we're closing down the kitchen" and walks away as I'm asking him to let me know when the "soon" is up since my friend is only 5 mins away. He comes back and grabs the menu's off the table and I say - "wait we wanted to order for my friend" again another eye roll "well what is it" ~ Seriously? Why the hell am I spending my money here? Even though I was able to look past this A-Hole and enjoy the company of my friends, I will answer my own question with "Well I won't be spending any MORE money here" Sayonara snotties, I'll spend my cash elsewhere. I've been to plenty of nice restaurants and they didn't serve me a side order of rude with my meal. read more

Once again NJ restaurants just can't get it right. This place is polished, has a full service bar, looks great but the food is mediocre at best. It's all about appearances here not quality. Lamb chops ordered rare came out medium well and looked steamed with no grill marks. Same for NY Strip ordered by my guests. Accompaniments sparce with. I starches. Menu is laid out like an Italian - appetizers, first and second courses. Appetizers are skimpy, although look great. Can't share them because each isn't enough to for one person. An absurd example was caviar - turned out on a large plate which was for all purposes fruit salad with about 1/2 teaspoon of caviar. They could have used black sesame seeds as no one would notice with such a silly and stingy amount. Ditto for two other choices. Cocktails are very ordinary, done as well as a bowling alley bar. Service is polite and polished, but very inexperienced and unknowledgeable. A bit awkward too as they try to follow a script for dealing with the table. Impressive wine list and nice choices by glass and even nicer high end wines Available by glass thanks to their technology there to keep the bottles fresh. Pricing surprisingly reasonable for a place which overcharges for the mediocre food. Except for desserts - the pastry chef outshines the general kitchen by far. Very nice Apple strudel and other choices my table had, all impressively played and satisfying. Espresso was vapid however and coffee reported to be bland. I admit my bias - So called high end NJ restaurants are often disappointing and often over priced as is this place. Pluckemin Inn proves my theory again. George Washington ate here. Well, sort of.. George Washington did spend significant amounts of time in Pluckemin during the Revolutionary War. While not verified, it's entiely possible he may have stopped at the Plucky for a pint or two of lager on the way back to Morristown after meeting with his troops.. Today, the Pluckemin Inn is consistently considered one of the top dining experiences in New Jersey. Conveniently located near I-287 and I-78, so it's easily accessible from anywhere in the state -- and definitely worth the drive. The locally-inspired menu features innovative and diverse combinations of rustic American-style cuisine that work well together, the "World Class" wine list is reknown, the service is impeccable, and the restored Federalist-style decor provides an intimate, romantic, and upscale ambience. The Pluckemin Inn offers both formal dining in the main dining rooms and a more casual atmosphere in the Plucky Tavern. Personally, I prefer the Plucky Tavern -- it's a sophisticated but relaxed place to meet friends for a drink and some appetizers or a burger and catch sporting events on their two LCD TVs. The Plucky Tavern features the much of the same cuisine served tapas-style (i.e., small or medium plates) and access to the full restaurant menu is also available upon request. I went to the Plucky for dinner on a recent Monday night. My girlfriend and I split a hamburger with garden salad and fish & chips. Our server, Esteban, was very knowledgeable about the menu, the wine and beer offerings, and remtained attentive to our table throughout the meal. The burger ($16) was full of flavor -- no cheese or dressings were required to make it pop -- and came with terrific house made pickles. The fish & chips ($15) was full of flavor and not greasy in the least. Both entrees were well presented and exceptionally fresh and tasty. Make sure you save room for dessert! Our desserts were amazing -- we sampled the spiced chocolate torte (served with avocado lime sorbet and crème fraîche, and aromatic spice gel), triple nut opera gateâu (served with white chocolate ice cream and hazelnut emulsion), and the cinnamon & panko-crusted apple strudel. Admittedly, my husband and I are food and service snobs. Few, if any, places in our beloved home, the Garden State, really wow us these days. I took the advice of some friends and Yelp reviewers and booked a reservation to celebrate my husband's birthday. This establishment, with an impressive wine list and three floor high wine room, did not disappoint. We waited for our table at the bustling bar sipping perfectly executed Martinis made with Double Cross Vodka (what a selection and fabulous casual area to dine in its own right) and Blue cheese stuffed olives, straight up and delicious! Sat upstairs next to the wine room...a spectacle for oenophiles like us! It did take some time for the sommelier to arrive...busy night...but his recommendations were spot on. From the basic greens and frisée/endive salads to perfectly prepared sea scallops, tender duck and luscious monkfish, we savored each bite. Dessert was also worth commenting on...I ordered a decaf coffee for simplicity sake but love my au lait. To my complete surprise, the accompanying milk came steamed with ample frothy foam...absolutely perfect...a beautiful touch without request. The cinnamon and panko crusted apple strudel with cinnamon ice cream was just perfect. The Valrhona soufflé was a hit with my husband, who also indulged in a supplementary single presentation of the Gouda cheese with accompaniments. Fish sandwich, burger and fish and chips took 1 hour to come out......the sandwich was inedible, as were the fish and chips. Soggy fries and just lousy. How do you mess up sandwiches and fish n chips? And why such a long wait for lunch? We had to get back to work. We came on March 24, 2018 for a dinner of 6 at the Pluckemin Inn. The ambience and food were 5 stars. It was the service that left me with a 3 star review. We made a 6pm reservation. The restaurant offers complimentary valet parking. We checked in and were told it would just be a few minutes. A few minutes later we were escorted to a large round table right next to a fire place. Our waiter came over soon afterwards and asked if we wanted drinks - mins you we have no menus at this point. I said we would like waiter and requested the cocktail and wine list. (Pluckemin Inn has an award wining wine cellar.) He brought the menus over and took our drink orders. The drinks came out and he asked for our food orders. The menu is setup that you can either order a la carte or opt for their tasting menu. The a la carte has a first, second and third course. I asked the waiter how the menu was setup and he said first course was cold appetizers, second was hot appetizers and third was entrees. We each ordered 2 courses - starting with oysters, risotto, and the ragu pasta. For dinner we went with the chicken, salmon, filet, veal chops and the monk fish. A young man then came with a bread basket where you had a choice of 6 or so different types of bread. They were all delicious and clearly freshly baked. He never came back to ask if we wanted more but once I did flag him down to ask and he accommodated. As I said the food was beyond what I thought it would be - everyone enjoyed their meals and we each ordered a dessert which were equally as good. We finished our bottle of wine and another guest their beer and never did the server ask if we wanted anything else. I was constantly having to flag him down. I do appreciate when the waiters don't hover but I think for these prices they should be attentive. He also never asked about our meals or offered any recommendations. He honestly barely spoke to us. Had dinner and drinks here for the first time and was not disappointed. The Mahi Mahi was tender and melted in my mouth on every bite...highly recommend. Since I have a nut allergy they were very accommodating and offered alternatives for everything. We had a lovely, spot on dinner last night. My husband and I participated in a prix fixe wine dinner featuring Spanish foods and paired wines selected by Chris Cree, with another 20+ diners, upstairs. AMAZING creations by the chef. Just the right portion sizes for each course. Quality over quantity is the best. Especially paired with fantastic wines. I've eaten a lot of desserts in my 57 years on this Earth. Last night I think scored #1: Manchego crema catalana with poached figs. I love manchego and it cut the sweetness of the custard. Really special. I held my husband's 50th birthday party in the private wine room downstairs ten years ago and they did a spectacular job. Since then we have only been in for drinks and meals in The Tavern....due to schedules and distance from our new location.We love Karen, Luis and JC on that side. LOVELY. Tal and Brian: all-star service and administration. We will sign up for more wine dinners with Chris. Really enjoyable. And Kevin's cooking was outrageous. read more

Had the grandparents in town and decided to go to lunch for a family celebration. We were a group of 8 including two teens and a tween. Lunch menu was great for a casual but special lunch. Our table ordered 2 beet salads (excellent but it is very large so consider sharing), 1 green salad (good), 2 burgers (very good, my son thinks it could benefit from a secret sauce on the side), 3 fish and chips (good), chicken sandwich (very good) , and 2 crab cakes (excellent). Had a wonderful lunch last week. This is a traditional American restaurant in the best sense, of the sort you find dotting "horse country NJ". Cordial, professional service at the bar (where we sat) and up front. We enjoyed salads, the excellent smoked salmon / pita plate, and I had the rigatoni with sausage & broccoli rabe. I was mad at myself for not getting the pulled pork, which I spotted in front of another diner - mine was good, that that looked amazing. Warm upscale atmosphere, fire place, etc as you'd imagine. Even though we went late, the dining area was full, a testament to the restaurant's popularity. Reasonable upscale prices, as expected. I'll return anytime I'm in that area. A quick edit... Went here for a lunch meeting. It was a nice quiet place to have a great meal and talk in the relatively quiet atmosphere. Service was awesome and the grilled vegetable sandwich I had was particularly good. Though I was thinking of getting it with a salad instead of fries the salad of the day did not entice me so I went the default route. Though I wish I still had a better salad choice I was glad to try the fries which I found better than the usual fair at many places. Before lunch we shared the crab cake appetizer which was also quite good coming with deep fried vegetables as well. I don't get it with this place. SO many people give 4 and 5 star reviews, but is it really a 4 or 5 star place? I would say no b/c the prices are quite high for the food you get. Charging $30-60 for a dish is not a problem but you must deliver a meal that wows you. Decor, presentation and service are great thats not the problem. The food is, I didn't enjoy my micro meal priced in the mid $30's, NYC prices with a nj flair.I think their menu is tailored to bland foods. It was bland and blah to me while I sat across someone else that enjoyed her meal. But when I compare myself to her and the others in the private room we had downstairs, they typically like the bland flavors of this style of restaurant. I dont, I like texture, taste and flavor. They have a incredible wine selection and wine cellar, their prices are high for what I believe you get and give people a place to waste money. I know people that like to go there and blow money like there is no tomorrow... Not my style or food, but I think that this place is great for people that like bland foods and good wines. My one friend that loves this place, her taste to me is awful when it comes to food. So I don't take her up on offers to meet here for dinner. btw, the beet salad was fresh and good. The patio and bar are beautiful for a drink, and if you choose to sit down for a meal make sure you have reservations. It is upscale and dress accordingly. The wait staff is very professional (almost to a fault that some of my family dining with me were not ready for that much attention). I visited the Pluckemin Inn for dinner on a Saturday. The place was pretty packed and you need reservations, although they were not hard to get. The ambiance is very nice with a country inn look that appears to be much older than it is (it is only 3 years old). My wife and I had their seasonal tasting menu with the higher end wine selection. The food and pairings were outstanding! The wines selected were less known and clearly more "value" wines but they complimented the meal very well and tasted great. The service in the place is great and the host which came to our table a lot, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The chef also came out to greet us and offered us an extra course. This place shot up as one of our favorite places to dine after the second course but it was cemented when the chef came out. It is a bit pricey, but for the food, the service, and this far from NYC it is well worth the money. read more

Shared appetizers of the crab cake (4 stars, no lump found though promised) which was sided with a delicious tempura of broccoli and cauliflower (oy, the gas...) with an orange reduction sauce. Better was the pork tostada (pulled pork with a delicious guac and corn tortillas for dipping). 2 beers, 2 red wines, let us sample a beer before choosing and the most out-of-this-world apple strudel I've ever had. $70 seemed a reasonable price for excellent food and service. WOW! What an experience. From the quality of the food, to the service, to the atmosphere everything was spot on. I haven't had a superior dining experience like this in awhile. It should be no surprise to any local as this area of Somerset County is known for its first class restaurants. Afterall, the Bernards Inn and 90 Acres are only about 15 minutes away and all offer a stellar culinary experience. The Plukemin Inn was no exception and did not disappoint. Atmosphere: The place is very upscale and succeeds highly in striking an old quaint inn vibe with a modern twist. The dining area has a nice wine glassed enclosure which extends to all three floors. They have a lower level for private parties which sports a large wine cellar. The bar area looked really nice and seemed to have a fun crowd. The place was pretty crowded. Service: The service is top notch and there is always someone checking in to see how your meal is or to refill your beverage. Our main server was very knowledgeable of the menu and helpful with suggestions. Over the course of the night we probably had like seven different waiters come to our table to empty it and serve the next course. The only downside of that is it felt like sometimes there were "too many cooks in the kitchen" so to speak. At one point there was a bus boy who cleared our table of the delicious amuse-bouche to just have another waitress bring out a second one! This is something I will not complain about! She forgot to bring silverware to enjoy it with and when I asked for some she didn't seem like she understood me too well. Lo and behold another server walked by, noticed we had nothing to eat it with, and promptly brought over forks and knives. What a team! Prices: Prices here are a bit high and on par with what you would pay in NYC. However, the main difference here is you actually get your money's worth when you consider the portion size. The portions here are very generous and I promise you will not leave here hungry. Food: Executive Chef Juan Jose Cuevas has designed a beautifully tailored menu with inspiring and unique dishes. They specialize in sourcing seasonal ingredients from local farms and using the freshest ingredients possible. Of course, we had to try the tasting menu to get a sampling of each of their specialties. It was hard to narrow it down to three choices as the entire menu looked amazing. Everything from start to finish was impeccable! We started with an amuse-bioche which was essentially was rice ball with butternut squash. Delicious (especially the second time ;) )! Also they came around a trio of breads - rye, sourdough and a spicy bread. The sourdough and the rye were our favorite. We then ordered cocktails & wine from their extensive menu. I tried a tangy Apple Fall Back cocktail (complete w/ apple wedge) & a nice German Reisling. For the first course we started with Tuna Crudo and a Pumpkin Soup. The Tuno Crudo came with bok choy, yuzu, pickled ramps, Trinidad peppers & clam dashi (basically Tuna Tartare). The pumpkin chestnut soup was served with ricotta gnocchi, chanterelles and nutmeg. Both were good but easily the low point of the night. The soup, while delicious, tasted just like Pacific Foods' (aka Trader Joes') Butternut Squash boxed soup. Not that there is anything wrong with that, since it is amazing, but I could have had the same thing at home for half the price. I do not really get the ricotta gnocchi reference, as it basically was two large chunks of ricotta sans gnocchi. For our main we got the Wild King Salmon and the Roasted Monkfish. The salmon was served with pasta e fagioli, clams & local escarole. The Roasted Monkfish came with maple, Brussels sprout, pistachios & black truffle vinaigrette. The salmon was DELISH and the portion size was extremely large. The pasta and beans were a nice touch, the clams added a bit of a kick to it, and the sauce tied it all together perfectly. What I like is how they only serve wild and not farm raised fish unlike most restaurants that sneak it in for the same price. The only thing was the fish was served a tad raw. Our server though let us know this wasn't an accident but actually done to lock in flavor. Regardless, I had it crisped a bit and it tasted much better IMO. The Monkfish was very tasty, albeit half the size. The pairings were so unique and the brussel sprouts were divine. For dessert they brought a large sampling of mini desserts. We finished with Valrhona 'Araguani' & caramel Bûche de Noël with chocolate ice milk AND cinnamon & panko crumb crusted apple strudel with cinnamon honey ice cream. The strudel had many LAYERS of apples and cinnamon. Both were very large and tasted just as AMAZING as they sound. All the desserts looked marvelous and like works of art. Went here for a weekday lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is basically two quaint rooms which are divided by a corridor where most of the wine was stored, and where the host and his podium stood for a warm entrance and coat check. For a small place that you'd almost miss, they had a very impressive wine selection and matching wait staff with ample pseudo-sommelier knowledge. The French onion soup (which I had) is perfect and comes highly recommended, and it seems like everything here is just as would be expected -- quaint. Expect to pay a premium here ... no two ways about it, but It's well worth it. There is an unparalelled standard of excellence here even with simple dishes. We threw a surprise party for my my mother's 60th birthday in the private dining room and everything was just perfect. Tal was so wonderful to work with. Not only was he very helpful and easy to communicate with as we were planning the event, but he also helped coordinate the actual surprise wonderfully and played his part to the T. The atmosphere was the biggest winner. It fit our party of 12 perfectly and the space was just beautiful. We were surrounded by bottles of wine in their cellar and we were able to decorate the place in advance as well. The food was the best that we've had in NJ in a long time - from the hor d'oeurves to the entrees and the plucky cake at the end of the meal! And of course, the wine line was magnificent and the sommelier helped us pick wonderful bottles for us to enjoy. We partied the night away and the staff was wonderfully hospitable and let us stay for as long as we liked. So if you want to throw an intimate private event for 12-14 people, Pluckemin Inn is definitely the place to do it. We're definitely planning to come back for other meals as well! read more

All visits have been excellent- the staff is very attentive, the bar area is fun and the food has always been great. They tend to serve contemporary American fare...nice preparation. Truly civilized dining for those who desire a serene peaceful dining experience. I have updated my review but I have to say this as far as the food goes, it's a hit a miss experience. However, it seems I can alway find something that's very good. An example is one of the best ROAST CHICKEN dishes I ever had with incredible flavor, moist and a crispy skin. An inspirational dessert; a BANANA dish similar to banana cream pie that included Macallan 12 Scotch. A couple of other dishes were just OK but the dining experiece as a whole, was superb. read more

We had an excellent dinner. The service was impeccable. We had the tasting menu and because we called ahead the chef made a special vegan dinner. The tasting menu was great. The portion sizes were good and I liked trying things that would not otherwise occur to me. Plukemin Inn wins vegan. Beautiful anniversary dinner at Pluckemin Inn. We didn't order much but still couldn't finish. My wife had risotto and half-size salmon entree, and I had swordfish ceviche and half-size swordfish entree ... followed by Local blueberry & corn parfait and Dark chocolate & salted caramel pretzel tart. Yes, i am a fan, i love this place. I walk in and think "I'm home". I love the dinner menu, the wine menu, the tavern menu, the bar, the whole shebang. This place is perfection. We went last night thinking we were early enough to get in and get a table but the parking lot was full, not one spot, and the overflow lot was pretty full as well. we ended up taking a table in the tavern area. I ordered an appetizer from the dinner menu -grilled asparagus, speck ham, egg yolk, spring onion, mussels vinaigrette. This was probably the best grilled asparagus plate i have ever had. the speck was so smokey and that chilled mussel was unexpected but the yolk on the bottom of the plate was an amazing surprise that i was not prepared for. This was a five star dish. I opted for the Griggstown Farm chicken that was on the tavern menu for my dinner. "griggstown chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli "- you will get me every time with those two little words - "mashed potatoes". But sign, it was a smear and i am certain that that smear was not enough to fit in a tablespoon so a bit of disappointment there. My husband ordered the" fazzoletti pasta, short rib ragu, rosemary, pine nuts, parmesan", when i gave his order to the waiter he was asked if he wanted the appetizer size or the dinner portion. App size was $16. He opted for the dinner size. To say that he was disappointed with the size of his dinner would be an understatement. As a man who worked in finance in the city for 30 years, and who knows his Italian plate - this was a bit of an insult to him. The dish was $32 and was truly an appetizer size portion, would have loved to see what they offer as a smaller portion for real! My con for this place is only the portion size of my husbands dish and that they were a wee bit stingy on the mashies. The food itself was delicious, the service in the tavern was the same as in the dining room - attentive and professional. The cocktail i ordered was refreshing and a great craft cocktail made with cucumber juice, fresh basil, fresh mint, sparking wine and my favorite Pimms! When there is a beverage on the menu made with Pimms - I am in. I do recommend this place, i don't think that you would be disappointed and it really is a place that should be experienced as a NJ gem. read more

I selected three only based on the service. The food was amazing. When my fiancé and I first sat down, the waitress began telling us the wine bottles were 50% off which we didn't know beforehand but was a nice perk so of course we ordered a bottle. When it was time to pay, we gave her our card but once it was swiped and brought back we noticed our wine bottle was full price and the discount was not given. So we called her over, and before we could say anything the waitress said "oh no they forgot to take the 50% off the wine". It was as if this has happened to her all the time. She was way too familiar with it and knew exactly what the issue was before we said anything. And when she said "they" i'm not sure who she was talking about considering she's the one that brought the check. Food is good, just make sure to check the bill. read more

So things have changed since the last time I have been here. Everything I tried this go around was fantastic and surprising. Our whole party on Saturday was impressed not only with the food, but the level of service provided. Waiters were on top of their game. I had a three course meal with oysters, grilled octopus, and a fluke. It got better and better each course. The flavors of the grilled octopus and fluke were wonderful. Excellent job by the chef. Perhaps I wasn't expecting much based on my previous couple experiences, maybe I ordered the wrong thing the last times, or maybe they've upped their game. Regardless the Pluckemin Inn is a place I'd definitely like to come back to after my wallet has recovered. read more

Over the summer, The Man and I decided to celebrate surviving a year of homeownership. We had been given a giftcard to Pluckemin Inn, and this seemed like the perfect time to use it. We made the mistake of not making a reservation before popping in on a rainy Friday night - we won't do that again. We ended up waiting for about a half hour before seats opened up, and they were at the bar, not the dining room. No big deal, we were fine with that. When we sat down, we weren't given menus or silverware. Actually, no one even acknowledged us for at least 10 minutes because so many people were at the bar. When we finally got menus, we made quick work of deciding what to order - duck for me, steak for him. As the menu here is seasonal, I honestly don't remember what the names of the entrees were. I just know that our stomachs were full and our wallets a little lighter after we walked out. Since we had plenty of waiting around to do from the time we were seated until we finally got our food, we got to look around and observe the bar area. It was dimly lit with lots and lots of wood. They clearly wanted to appear classy and high end, having a bottle of Louis XIII on display above the bar. Considering how busy the place was, I guess people like that. The bar was full of regulars based on the conversations we overheard. It was pretty loud, which is pretty expected for a bar area. I hope the noise level in the dining room is much lower as The Man and I could barely hear each other where we were. Our meal was quite delicious. My duck was cooked beautifully and the golden beets underneath it gave a nice flavor contrast. The Man enjoyed is steak, cleaning his entire plate. We lingered over our dinner without either bartender even so much as looking in our direction, my glass having been empty for about half my meal. I understand that it was a busy evening, but any bartender worth their salt would not have missed an empty glass. Eventually, one of them wandered over and asked if we wanted to order dessert. Since we had already spent so much time there, we decided to go for it - some sort of chocolate confection for him and the sorbet flight for me. We again waited for far too long for our order, but we thought it would be worth it based on our entrees. We weren't so lucky this time. Our desserts weren't bad or anything, but they weren't anything special either. Enjoyable to be sure, but we were expecting more from them, I guess. After spending a few hours at the Pluckemin Inn, we finally paid our check and wandered out into the night. Overall, the food was a 4 (5 for entrees, 3 for desserts) but the service barely made a 2. I think our experience would have been better had we come on a weeknight when they wouldn't be as busy and had gotten to sit in the dining room. The place is pricey, and we probably should have ordered from the tavern menu because we felt kind of short-changed paying as much as we did for sub-par service. I have a feeling we'll end up back there eventually, but we're not in a hurry with all of the other nice restaurants in the area we could try instead. read more

Recent Sunday dinner. Draws something of an ecclectic crowd. Great wine selection, and in context of their menu, not unreasonably priced. Shot glass of vegetable consumme as a pre-app palate cleanser. Marvelous. Apps: Pluckemin salad - very nice. Crispy soft shell crab, bouillabaisse jus, lobster & octopus salad - very, very nice. Mains: wild Alaskan halibut, peas, fava beans, pistachios & young leeks vinaigrette - very tasty. Butter poached lobster, creamless corn chowder, house made guanciale & mussels - Spectacular! Dessert: can't remember exactly what it was, but it was good too - and freshly made. So why only four stars? At this price, I want an awfully close copy of perfection. Didn't like where we were seated AT ALL (and in retrospect should have called bull on it right away) and they got Mrs. appetizer wrong - so there was quite a wait for the correct one to be prepared. We started with a signature Plucky specialty cocktail. It took a few reminders but the Pellegrino never arrived. I enjoyed the Sun choke soup to start and the sashimi appetizer as a main course at the bar. Small portions and very tasty. Interesting bar crowd! read more
