I can't say enough good things about Plum Grove Cyclery! I stopped in with very little time to spare, feeling completely stressed after discovering I had a flat bike tire. I had already tried every pump I had at home, stopped at a gas station where the air pump didn't fit my bike, and even had someone use my payment to fill their own tires before I could use the machine. The moment I walked in, I barely had to explain the situation. The gentleman working there simply asked if I had the bike with me and said, "Let's bring it inside." He checked all of my tires, showed me how to properly use the pump I already had at home, gave the entire bike a quick safety check, and had me back on my way in no time. Because of his kindness and willingness to help, I was able to get my mother-in-law to the airport in Washington, DC, on time and still keep my promise to my 6-year-old that we'd go biking in DC afterward. A home town bicycle shop with a conscience! We love Plum Grove. The owners are cyclists themselves and are knowledgeable. They are cyclists first and salespeople second. We got our bikes serviced recently and I was impressed by the way they called to discuss the cost of potential repairs before making them. They also discussed the cost of repairs relative to the value of the bike. These and other actions have earned our loyalty. read more

Idk what to say about this place- on one hand they are honest and seemingly really good people. They are a small shop so if you're looking to have your bike back to fast don't send it there. One of the owners just seems angry all the time, but IDC honestly I'm not there to date him/ just want my bike fixed and they do a great job. I support them because there are hardly any independently owned small shops. I'd say if you go there with the understanding that the service takes awhile and you may or may not get grumbled at..but prices are fair and really it's a great shop overall. read more

I swung by Plum Grove to get a new inner tube for my youngest daughter's bike. I was going to install it myself but the gentleman behind the counter offered to install it for $20. What a bargain! I'm no expert so installing an inner tube is a pain for me, but he was done in about 2 minutes. We'll definitely be back when she's ready for a big girl bike! read more

I got My first mountain/trail bike from cannondale's site and got it delivered and assembled here. I reached out to them via email and phone and Tom was really helpful and communicative! Once the bike was delivered it was ready for pick up the next day. Tom was also knowledgeable and kind enough to answer some of newbie questions as well as make adjustments to the bike for proper fitting. It was a cool shop too. read more

These guys are really helpful. I have 3 different bikes, but they mainly work on my mountain bike, everything from resealing the tubeless tires, to tune ups, ordering and installing some equipment. We have purchased 3 bicycles from Plum Grove and get all of our bikes serviced there. They are not the quickest, but they spend the time on your bike and do it right. They don't up-sell or push items/services you don't need. The only thing is that they are a small, specialized place and don't have the wide selection of bikes that a large store would have. The staff here was fantastic. I came in unable to sit after a 30 mile ride and immediately found relief in the form of perfect bike shorts that were miraculously on sale. This shop is the best in town! We've bought several bikes from Mike and Tom and we've even sold our used bikes here too. They're extremely knowledgeable and so patient in explaining everything to you. You can buy a new bike. Order a new bike or look through their selection of used bikes too. They will set you up on a fitting and make sure you're riding your bike as comfortable as possible. This is truly a local shop where you feel good about hanging out, talking shop and spending your money locally and not mailing it off to some chain store. This shop is involved in the local community and donates time and money to local charities and it's a pleasure to know they're a part of our neighborhood. I recently moved from Los Angeles and unboxed my road bike that I had professionally packed to prevent damage. While unboxing the bike, I took the front fork off by mistake and didn't know how to put it back on the frame correctly. I stopped by another larger bike shop in Leesburg to only say their benches and techs were busy putting together custom bikes and it would be 4 days before they could get to mine. I kindly said I would go somewhere else. I yelped for help and chose Plum Grove Cyclery and Tom immediately knew how to fix it and within 10 mins the problem was solved. Afterwards, we talked bikes and about riding in the area. He charged a reasonable price to fix my problem and I was back on the road to enjoy the weekend. Plum Grove is a great bike shop. Tom is the best bike mechanic I've dealt with in the 30+ years I have been riding. He knows his bikes, their strengths and weaknesses, and how to match the bike to the kind of rider you are. Tom repaired by 20 year old Trek so that it works smoothly and efficiently. The IF I bought from Plum Grove fits me to a T and is a pleasure to ride. Both Mike and Tom work are nice guys and they work with you to find the right bike and to make certain you are comfortable with it. I rode several bikes before buying the IF to see whether something a little less expensive might do. When my IF was delayed, they loaned me a bike for a ride in Vermont. read more

Really pleased with Plum Grove Cyclery! My young son's bike needed a bit of repair -- I don't know much about bikes, but I didn't think it was a major issue, and I didn't want to spend a fortune. I called first, and they invited me to bring it in. My son & I took it in, and one of the gents looked it over, and went right to work. The brakes were locked and a cable was twisted -- since they knew what they were doing and had all the tools, they made it look easy. Another gentleman chatted with my son about the Tour de France video streaming. When the repair was complete, they took the time to check that the fit was good for my son, gave him a couple of tips on using the hand brake (new for him), confirmed that he had a helmet and always wore it (felt like genuine concern rather than a potential sales pitch). The charge was very reasonable, and we were in & out in less than 30 minutes (would have been less but we all stopped to watch the Tour de France race finish). Overall, great experience -- the kind of specialized care that has become all too rare these days. read more
