When I suggested they try augering the drain, he told me it wouldn't work and claimed that other plumbers who would do that were "being shady." Because if the auger snake got stuck or was "missing," it could cost an additional $3,000-$4,000, which honestly felt like a scare tactic. Thankfully, I decided to get a second opinion. The next plumber simply augered the line for $180, and everything works perfectly now -- no wall cutting, no extra charges. I'm so glad I didn't let them talk me into unnecessary work. Based on my experience with Matthew N. and Discount Plumbing, I wouldn't recommend them.

I called Edgar after 5pm that same day, and he answered. He even tried reaching out to his guys to see if someone could come out that night. He suggested returning the next day with his supervisor. Meanwhile, the pipe continued to leak throughout the night. The following day, I received a call from the supervisor, who reviewed the nighttime photos and concluded that the pipe was beyond repair. He quoted $4,800 for a full back-flow replacement. I declined the estimate. Instead, I hired a plumber experienced with back-flow systems. They promptly diagnosed and repaired the leak--for just $180. Buyer beware: I will never call Roto-Rooter again.

Your business model is awful, paying your technicians on commission which makes them sales people, not service people. It also makes rates unreasonable, as if I were one of your technicians, the bill rate impacts my take home pay, so there is no incentive to work on the price which is 2x the competition. This is a perfect storm for a terrible experience with a home owner who is vulnerable due to no running water.
