My family has been using this bank for years so of course I followed and when I moved to California was pleased to see there were branches present, not really nearby but at a drivable distance. The attitude of customer service sucks! Not only in branch but on the phone as well with absolutely ridiculous wait times. I've had money taken out of one of my checking accounts (I have two as well as a savings), without warning and without urgency to locate where it's gone. And whenever you call and can finally get through, attitude central. They want to be smart alecs and pretend they're doing their job when they're not doing a darn thing. This bank is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I have gotten several NSF charges for no legitimate reasons and one time was because I made a loan payment a few days earlier than the due date. When I called to inquire about this fee, the employee at this bank treated me like I was some illiterate human being. He constantly talked over me and would interrupt me every time I'd try to explain anything. They make the monthly payments so incredibly and inefficiently complicated. I cannot wait to pay off my loans so that I can leave this inadequate and incompetent bank. If you are looking for a sweet deal on opening an account with them or taking out a loan DON'T. They seem to want you to do everything through a branch. I recently tried to open a CD online and thought, that just like every other bank, I could transfer the money from savings or fund it from my outside bank account THAT I HAD USED TO OPEN THE SAVINGS ACCOUNT ONLINE. What a piece of crap bank. Unbelievable how hard it was to just make a payment, took me multiple calls over 4 months to finally find someone who could solve the problem, it just took someone who knew. Up tell then I had to mail in the payment, could log in but system would not let me pay. Now I find out the payment didn't go through, so I re-log in, submitted payment but again did not get a verification, just like last time, so I tried again. Then I waited to the following day to log in, now I see 3 payments. I called, nothing they can do, but if I send in a screen shot of my bank showing the payment in 10 days they may be able to send me a check. lisa is the nastiest and rudest thing and employee i have even spoken to, my purse was stolen and i am waiting for my new debit card, i have a 4 year old daughter. first off the bank has been closed for a week, when i called today, finally someone "lisa" at the branch ans, while i was trying to explain what happened se kept cutting me off not letting me finish, when i tried to explain that due to the games the phone agent kept playing on friday, my 4 year old daughter and i became stranded and had to sleep in the car due to running out of gas behind the agent sending us around to 20 different atm locations only to find out we could only use the branch location, when we finally found "one of two" branches in southern california, we could not even access the atm "the doors were locked" and we had no access to an atm, when i left i made it 3 block sand my car ran out of gas, guess what?? "my daughter and i slept in the car that night until a police officer pulled in the parking lot where we were, luckily he was kind and listened and went to get us gas to get to a gas station and he filled up my tank to get home!! when i called today and tried to explain to "lisa" she did not want to hear it and kept rudely cutting me off while i was talking and started talking about something totally different!, she said "it was not her problem what happened and maybe i should not have had my daughter with me driving around, and not once apologized for the conduct and lies from a bbva agent and said it was not her problem, i asked her if i could come and withdrawal funds and she said "not if i don't have a debit card and they are only doing maintenance on the accounts not giving out money, that i will just have to wait!" i told her i have my drivers license and she said " i have to have my debit card to get money and can only use the atm regardless what my situation is! this thing "lisa" needs to be terminated asap, she is the worst employee bbva could have ever hired! also this is not the first time and everyone complains about her, also, anytime i have been transferred to the to branch by the 800 number and she answers, she has the nastiest attitude like she owns the bank, "someone please get rid of this thing, i have already started lawsuit actions bbva but now i am including her personally in the lawsuit just because of her conduct. after i get everything situated i am closing my accounts with these people, i have already opened at another bank, when i explained what happened, they had nothing nice to say about bbva and said they should be shut down, "i completely agree".. the location is nasty and dirty, some employees are less than pleasant and lisa is a horrible person read more

BBVA online CD Account. This is a scam! Don't fall for an advertised, high rate because you may not get it. They wouldn't tell me what I had to do to close my CD at maturity and get my money back. I had to keep messaging and calling until finally I found out. I had to send a signed, notarized letter with an image of my driver's license before they would give me my money back. What?! This is an online account I funded electronically from another account. This requirement is nonsense and unreasonable and is part of the scam to make you miss their deadline. Then you have to pay $25 plus 1% to get your money back. Don't trust BBVA for anything. STAY AWAY! read more

I wish I could do a negative star. My husband went in to change the date of our car payment. The worker was rude and told my husband to wait for a confirmation from BBVA. We called them to confirm and they said they have no record of him going in and they said for him to do it again and pay an additional $10. I believe the workers can throw away if they get annoyed or don't even care. We had to shuffle money around that we didn't have to make sure to pay our car. They promised us a date change and instead say there was no Proof. Get proof no matter what it is. They lie!!! Worse bank I have ever dealt with. First of all, you cant withdraw all of your OWN money and close it directly with the bank. You have to write a letter closing your account and wait for YOUR OWN money for weeks. Second, what bank runs out of Cashier's check? Really? I have been a BBVA customer for 3 years. They are fine if you never need anything. A few years back I had questions about my card and they actually cancelled it after the call. I never requested this and it left me with no money until I received the new card in the mail. Now, I am trying to use my card to get my car out of the body shop. It only went through for $3500. Turns out that is my daily spending limit, so I called and asked them to extend my limit. They said they could only increase it by $1600. That was fine, because $3500 plus $1.6k covered my bill. When they tried to run my card for the additional amount, it was declined. I left the shop and called the bank again. He said instead of increasing the amount, they decreased it to the amount I wanted extended. He said it would be fixed in 5-6 hours. Next morning, it is still not fixed. Called (3rd time) and rep ended up telling me daily limits are renewed in 24 hours, and full amount in my account would be available at 5pm Saturday. Guess what??? It's not and my daily limit is STILL the decreased amount. They have left me with an impossible situation with 3 different stories. I am done. I have a work around thanks to my family. and as soon as that it done I will be closing my account with this POS bank. read more

The absolutely worst banking experience I have ever had. I signed up for a checking account with a promotional $100 deposit after you pay a utility bill from your account within the first 60 days. They never deposited the $100 promotion and claim the promotion never existed. I called numerous times and spent hours on the phone with customer service. I had to email them their own original promotional email that I responded to. It's been a nightmare dealing with them and I still don't have the $100!! The security guard says hello when you come in. The tellers are not overly nice, but they are not rude either. I've spoken with a banker, and they were really nice and helpful. I don't like the fact that there is always a line to see the banker (no appointments). I also HATE that the ATM is only available during business hours. The teller manager Nicole refuses to waive the $10 fee for cashier check after bbva canceled our checking account without letting us know because "it's not a bank error." Really? We have been here 1 1/2 hours and another hour if we are lucky to reestablish another checking account. Their computer system cannot merge our equity line with checking account etc... Poor service and poor attitude. The Teller Manager is lame. She should have direct us to the Bank manager rather than gave us the impression she is The Manager. She needs to be retrained in customer service. This branch is the only one in the Los Angeles area. We have no other options. After 2 1/2 hours, we were able to see Jose who was capable and was able to correct the bank errors by readjusting our bank profiles and made the appropriate transfer, all with a smile. Thank you. The major problem with this bank is that there is no bank manager at this location, and as a result it is run by unqualified bankers who are untrained/confused on company policies, and in the basic tenets of customer service (Luis Rodriguez is the particularly rude individual who was in charge when I visited). As there are no other branches nearby, I had no choice but to switch banks to Chase and Wells Fargo in order to be able to perform even basic account services, such as making a large withdrawal. From 20 years of experience, I can say that BBVA Compass is a wonderful bank nationwide, but this branch is horrendously mismanaged and particularly unprofessional. When i first came in I was a little upset. I called to make an appointment but they told me they don't take appointments here and all I had to do was come into the branch. When I got here there long line of people waiting to see bankers. The security guard welcomed me and asked me what I needed help with. He advised me that there may be a wait and if I wanted to go get food i could. I decided to stay to just stay and not risk missing my turn. After a little while he asked everyone if they wanted any water or coffee. (You know you're in good hands when even the guard offers customers water and coffee). Finally after what seemed like an eternity! It was my turn. Carlos, Nicole and Claudia were phenomenal. Carlos helped me with getting my home equity line. The assistant manager Nicole notarized my documents and helped me with getting my cashier's check. Claudia the manager printed my docs out for me so I wouldn't have to wait longer when it was my turn. Keep up the good work. My only concern is that this is the only branch in Los Angeles County!!! RUN FROM THIS BANK!!!! I opened an account with this bank, albeit my own fault for not reading the reviews first. After reading reviews from all sources I decided against banking with them. I called within a week of opening the account. First, I got someone who I could barely understand. Second, after telling him I hadn't received any banking information he proceeded to "verify" who i was - Ok I get it. Now the questions - did I live on such and such street 20 yrs ago? Yes I did. What square footage is my home? WTH. I don't know - what square footage was my old home - again, I don't know. Ten questions later, I guess their system was comfortable with my identity. He puts a void on the ATM. I explained AGAIN, I wanted to close the account and get my funds back. He tells me he can't close my account unless the balance is zero. So I either spend the funds or withdraw it. Since my card is voided, I need to make a trip to the closest office in Lynwood to withdraw my money and close the account. DONT BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE. Firstly, if there were an option to award BBVA zero rating, I would have selected it. I was a customer of both BBVA credit cards and bank. I rarely used the bank as I have a credit union account through my employer, however I did make good use of the card. Overall my experience with BBVA was satisfactory, however late last year I suffered a medical emergency and was consequently on disability from work for six months. It was serious. On disability I earned 60% of my salary and had to use my card more frequently. I ultimately had a very high balance. BBVA sent me a letter that they were cancelling my card, reasons being high revolving credit balance, one delinquency (with another creditor - which is being disputed). I take I umbrage with a company that does not make an attempt to reach out to customers to discover why their credit has been adversely effected or ask them what can be done to figure out the issue, are there any errors in the decision? It makes good sense to me that were one interested in maintaining a business arrangement, one would ask these types of questions. What BBVA decided to do was cancel my card. Consequently my credit score took an eight point tumble and to make matters worse, over $200 in unredeemed reward points were forfeited. BBVA not only profited from my interest on purchases made while a customer they stole my reward points as a punishment for having my card cancelled and badly affected my credit score. This is a poor business model BBVA. CONTACT YOUR CUSTOMERS IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT THEM! Otherwise you're advertising is vacuous and has no credabilty, because ultimately you didn't care about this customer. All I can say is. STAY AWAY FROM BBVA CREDIT CARD CORP. THEY ARE GREEDY. THERE POLICIES ROB THE CUSTOMERS THEY ARE FALSLY CLAIMING TO SERVE THE INTERESTS OF. THIS COMPANY IS BAD. STAY AWAY FROM BBVA. Came in to this bank because it's the closest one to me since I moved to Los Angeles. The chip on my card had broke somehow so I had to drive to this bank in Lynwood to get cash out and order a new card. No big deal right? Well since my new card was " being delivered " I couldn't use my bank account to make any transfers or payments. I figured I could work around it for a couple days to a week until my card arrived. Over a week later and still no card in the mail so I decided to call customer service to see if there was an issue or how much longer it would take for my card to arrive. And guess what?!?! The people here at the Lynwood bbva never even took the 5 minutes it takes to order my new card!!!!!!! Are you kidding me!?!?!? When I filled out the form and gave it directly to the teller!!!!! After walking into the bank today and over hearing them send a worker back to get something he forgot to get I completely understand why my card was never ordered. I have a safespend card account with you guys and I received a refund onto my debit card last night. Right after I received the refund my card was closed with all of our money on it. When we called we were told that since the original purchase was not made with the card the account is under a security review, and we would not receive our funds for 3-5 business days. I explained that we were stuck in Wal-Mart because my son drank a soda that we could not pay for until our funds were released. The representative that I was speaking to, the supervisor, and the manager all refused to release the funds. We ended up just walking out of the store and were followed by security and had our license plate number taken down. Was this all really necessary? I've never heard of a major bank doing anything like this, especially for such a ridiculous reason. Why was this done? Does your bank feel the need to earn interest on money that does not belong to you because you have lost millions of dollars from your recent overdraft fee lawsuit?
