Family dinner at Po House was a great end to our vacation. Sitting on the outer deck you have a beautiful view of sunset and the water and maybe some late night SUP-ers as well. The shrimp basket and the po boy were great but the two big winners were the fish and chips (totally unique and really well done) and the lobster bisque (drool). We all enjoyed our cocktails as well - watermelon basil was good but the sunset spritz was the way to go for sure. The staff was knowledgeable and the managers/maybe owners were friendly and grateful and quick to accommodate whatever we needed. Forget the wait at other spots and head here! read more

Tourists in the area, we were doing a lot of eating out. We visited Po House after about 4 days of being here and after days and days of greasy, overpriced food, we decided to go to here. We actually met the owner outside and him and his wife are from Vermont. What was really cool was that he told us, they were the only restaurant using all local seafood in the area. We went inside and I wasn't expecting much but the decor was very nice and the service was great. But nothing compared to the food inside. As a culinary student from Vermont, going out to eat can be challenging but everything was fantastic!!! The food was the best I've had on vacation so far, the prices were better than other places and the service was fantastic. The waitress was so sweet and we actually met the wife who owned the restaurant. 5 stars just because it was amazing and they were the best mussels I've ever had. Highly recommend!! read more

We stumbled upon Po House and are so glad we did! My family (2 adults and 2 kids) met another family for an early dinner and it was amazing! The food was like nothing else we've had in Avon, much less in Hatteras. My 11-year old son who never eats salad, ate my caesar in addition to his oyster sandwich. The buffalo cauliflower was delicious! Another member in our party had the Po' Boy and they loved it. My daughter had the seafood bisque and it was gone in 5 minutes. Hands down THE BEST MEAL that we've had in OBX in 10 years. I'm not exaggerating, either. From first taste to last byte, we both were blown away by the freshness of the ingredients and abundance of flavor. I had the Mojo Fish & Chips (with fresh caught spotted trout) and my wife had the Everything Tuna. Light and well balanced with excellent sides (the crispy smashers, coleslaw, avocado puree, coconut rice, side salad with cucumber, carrot, edamame, and soy dressing were all "shared" with enthusiasm). Our drinks (Effen Good Cucumber Lemonade and Lavender Bees Knees) were unique and excellent. All of the seafood was caught that day out of Hatteras and many of the ingredients are sourced locally. The atmosphere was beachy-casual. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The owner/chef even stopped by our table to check on our meals - demonstrating their commitment to quality. No matter where you are staying, put this restaurant on your "must go" list. read more

We came for lunch while exploring on our bicycles and stumbled across this newly opened gem! Amazingly fresh and healthy options that were so yummy you almost forgot it was actually good for you too! We had the PO Boy with cornmeal crusted oysters, blackened yellow fin tuna wrap, and caesar salad. We sat outside on the deck with an unparalleled waterfront view featuring windsurfing entertainment across the sound. Impressive woodwork on the bar, the tables and the walls. Meeting the staff we felt as welcomed as the warmth of the sun that set in front of us. The Host was informative and as patient as a experienced sailor. The waiter hustled like she was returning a late rental but calmer then a soft breeze. The flavors of the food were as enchanting as the colors displayed by the sunset. Thank You! As a newer establishment, I was impressed with the level of service for our 11 person party. I ordered the fish and chips and it really was some of the best I've had. However, the "smashed" potatoes were pretty much whole. I'd be happier if they actually were smashed. Also, the cocktails were a little too sweet and low in alcohol. My mistake. I didn't read the menu close enough. I like a good plate of fish and chips. When I saw fish and chips on menu I thought it was fried fish. What I didn't realize was that it was fish topped with potato chips. I love fresh battered and fried also some corn fritters or even French fries. I see that they are trying to elevate above that, and that's great. But because I am a "po boy" I just thought maybe "po boy" was meant for me. But it's not. Service and cleanliness was great. Red potatoes were ok but mom's are better. NC craft beer is always the best in the U.S.A. Anyway it's a good place but not for me. read more

Really wanted to like this restaurant. It looked like just our type of place to eat. When we arrived, we were told it would be a little over an hour wait. It turned out to be closer to two hours, and the process was a little chaotic and disorganized. Our server was great, but we still waited another hour for our food. I ordered shrimp and grits, and the portion size looked smaller than the appetizer we got. And it was bland with overcooked shrimp. Everyone else at our table was not super impressed either. This restaurant does not have a children's menu or any child friendly foods. Drinks and food are very overpriced, and not a good value for what you get. Three of the options on the menu were not available/sold out by the time we were seated. All of the issues in this review point to poor management. By the end of the evening, our two young children had had enough, and the restaurant was stuffy and warm. We can laugh about it now, but at the time, we felt that we had thrown our money away. I hate writing bad reviews, but this was our experience. read more

We had dinner and drinks here tonight for the first time and loved it! The people are wonderful and the food was amazing! We had the Caesar salad and fish special. The Caesar included kale, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and a fun spin of Cajun croutons! The combination was delicious! Tilefish was tonight's special. Despite recently opening, Po House can easily compete with the multitude of established eateries in the area. Best meal I've had in the outer banks and it's not even close. I had the oyster po boy and it was awesome. Biggest issue was it was huge. That's a great problem to have. I'm adding a star for benefit of the doubt related to COVID. The restaurant is extremely clean and updated and the food was good. It seemed a little unorganized and the atmosphere was odd. When we got there, the manager told us to wait and "one of his girls" would add our name to the list. The inside is large but they only had a couple tables in it which was weird and we had to wait for one of the few tables they had. We eventually got a seat on the patio. The view is gorgeous, but there was no cloud cover when we went and the roof of the patio was way too small to provide any shade. The patio in general was just too small to feel comfortable. Anyway, we baked in the NC sun and it just made it hard to enjoy the experience. They need to add umbrellas to the tables or extend the roof line. The staff was very, very polite but they seemed stressed. Maybe from waiting tables in the hot sun on a small patio. I would go back and give it another chance on a non-COVID summer and see what it's like. The bar inside is really nice too. read more

We were so glad we found this place. Fresh, unique spin on classic cocktails. The food was delicious- nothing over fried. Must try: The Big Tuna, Fish and Chips, The Tuna Wrap, and mahi mahi tacos, shrimp cocktail served with a really tasty pineapple sauce alternative to cocktails sauce. What a great place to pull off to!! On the way down to Ocracoke, this location offers a great view of the sound, a pleasant outside seating option, and even more pleasant wait staff! The specials were presented table-side and posted on a large board on the inside. My dad had the double burger pulled bbq with avocado special and ate while making pleasurable sounds through his last bite. Mom had the fish & chips from the menu, making similar sounds of happiness. We finally made it to the pohouse and boy did it not disappoint. We had a lovely evening sitting outside on the sound, fish were jumping and an otter cruised on by during the meal. Wow! What an unexpected surprise! My brother and I were told about Po House and decided to try it out. From the moment we walked in the door, the view is stunning. The sun shining on the water is so beautiful. We were greeted by Lacy and her vivacious personality. She offered us seats and drinks. As we looked at the menu we both had some questions. Lacy assured us she could accommodate any food allergies. I ordered the tuna dinner with mashed sweet potatoes & cucumber salad. I'm in awe of the tuna with the dipping sauce. Absolutely wonderful. The potatoes and salad were a great compliment of the tuna. My brother had the oyster po'boy and finished it before I was done. We also had some potato smasher to start.
