Had breakfast here twice in the picturesque town of Bigfork. We arrived early and didn't have to wait to be seated; but the cafe filled very quickly and it didn't take long for a line to form. Been here twice for breakfast, food was good with exception of the potatos they cook in a deep fryer instead of hash browns or country potatos fried in a skillet. They are inedible, but egg scramble was good. Coffee is excellent. Atmosphere is nice. Service was also above par. read more

My husband and I took the boat across the lake to try this restaurant. We were seated. It took 20 min for the waitress to take our order. It took another 45 mins for our food to arrive. People all around our table who came in after us, were being served before us. I was beginning to get that invisible feeling which pretty much means we were forgotten. The restaurant isn't that big so I don't understand how anyone could be overlooked. My huervoes Rancherous showed up and there was a lining of grease around the red sauce. I had about twenty family members in town for my daughter's wedding...this was (with one exception) the only place everybody ate. The pancakes, breakfast burritos, and cheeseburgers were fantastic! Service could have been a little quicker (or else I am so used to the California lifestyle that I've grown impatient), but was extremely friendly...highly recommend the place! read more

The service was very poor. Looking right at me, the waitress asked if I would like anything to drink and I responded, "Coffee." It never came and she later stated she didn't know I wanted coffee. She had a difficult time refilling the water as well, stating "I didn't know he had water." when I asked her to refill the glass for my son. She forgot items we ordered and the service was slow. Orders were also not what we had ordered. It was not as if the place was busy either, about half the table were occupied. There was a lot of time to observe waitstaff activities at other tables and it was not any better. A nearby table complained about their order. The food was of below average quality and the staff have a haughty attitude which seems to fit with the low grade of service. All-in-all, a waste of time and money. read more

I'll make this quick and painless... The food is fine - nothing out of this world. The service is horribly slow. The day we were there they ran out of a majority of menu items, including fries! We visited the Pocketstone Cafe twice on our vacation. Great service both times. I had Karie's Benedict, which was fresh and delicious. My husband had the Sausage Rancher and he also enjoyed his meal. The next visit was an early morning coffee run. They were the only open business at 6 am and we were thankful for the coffee, chai latte and biscuit! Cant wait to return to Flathead and visit Pocketstone. read more

Worth the wait! Waitresses harried but always pleasant. Food very tasty and a good value for the price. Yes it does take a while to get to your table but the restaurant is always packed and cooks are only human, Relax you are on holidays! Hailey, our server, made the wait worthwhile. She had such a calm and pleasant demeanor despite the chaos of a festival and crowded restaurant. The cherry pie had a pleasant blend of tart and sweet. The veggie sandwich was full of flavor: crisp fresh veggies, toasted bread, and a spread. The waffle was near perfect. Such a pleasant melt-in-your-mouth buttery, golden flavor, and to top it with pure maple syrup was splendid! Arrive early, before the afternoon rush, to grab their famous scones! read more

Apparently our experience must have been an off day, but there were no redeeming qualities about this place, other than maybe the atmosphere. First of all, you have to read a novella for every item on the menu. If they put as much thought into preparing the food as they do talking about it, this place might actually be delicious. The chicken noodle soup literally looked like the cook opened a can of Swanson chicken broth, poured in some frozen vegetable mix, available in the freezer section of any grocery store, then added mangled, golf ball sized chunks of chicken breast. It tasted just as bland as it looked and sounded. This recipe, not worth sharing. Then there was the hearty chili, this stuff is not too danged good. Chili is delicious when it is simmered for hours, but this stuff had probably been simmered so long that the liquid had long ago disappeared. It was so thick and pasty, you could use it as a stand in for construction adhesive. Finally, the Reuben. It actually wasn't terrible, glad they took the time to slice the corned beef in house, instead of sending it out for slicing, as other readers have noticed the service was painfully slow. Very good place for breakfast. My husband and I live near Echo Lake Cafe and go there a lot, but Pocketstone is just as good and their coffee is better. It's nice to have two great places for breakfast if you aren't satisfied with regular "coffee shop" type breakfasts that abound in most restaurants in Montana. Since Pocketstone is in the village, it's fun to walk around afterwards or bike to breakfast down the Wild Mile. I haven't tried lunch yet, but the menu looks great. read more

We got there just when they were about to close and were so happy that they talked us into staying for lunch and were willing to take a party of 7!! I think this place is highly overrated, but guests of ours love it, so we continue to go back. There are a few things that are special, but I cannot think of them offhand. Maybe the chili, which is so good I took it home for dinner one night. Also the coffee. But one time I asked for some soup early, and it came still frozen in the bowl. I couldn't believe it, let alone eat it, so I sent it back. That's what I get for ordering their wonderful soup earlier than it is ready! The one reason I think people love this place is the atmosphere. It is pretty awesome. Very awesome. And the menu reflects this, because it is written so cutely and fun. If you are up for some great atmosphere and some ordinary, or even frozen soup, do go. You will love it if you are not too fussy!!! read more

We've eaten breakfast here three times. The food is excellent but the service is very slow. The last time, the waitress didn't show up at our table for quite a long time, took drink orders and served them but then didn't get back to us for another long period to take our food order. We arrived at Pocketstone at 1:30pm and was seating at 1:45pm. On a busy Saturday, that was pretty good. We sat down and the young girl waited on us asked for our drinks. Two coffees, two waters and two milkshakes. Two out of four got our drinks. This is when things went downhill. The waters arrived. Twenty-five minutes later, we ask the waitress where the shakes are and she rudely respond, "Well, we only have one lady doing the drinks for the WHOLE restaurant". Lie. As she said those words I sat viewing the drinks and there were two other women filling drinks for their tables. Near the drink area stood the manager drinking her drink and chatty it up with people at the bar. 40 mins later, the shakes come with the food. We spent almost 2 hours on lunch mainly waiting for drinks and food. When the food came out, my food wasn't even warm and the bread was so hard I couldn't cut it. In the meantime, four elderly folks walked in and asked for a seat inside since it was cold and drizzling. The hostess cut them off and said they would have to sit outside. The restaurant was barely full as this point and plenty of indoor seating. The gentleman asked why and she rudely said they're closed. He asked her you close at 3pm right and its not...she cut him off, I'm sorry, outdoor seating is the only thing available. He remarked, I guess you don't want service, huh? The manager walked up and past them without assisting the customers. Sad, really. This restaurant needs to be managed. This restaurant got a liberal 2 stars. I will not return. read more

Homemade comfort food. I've had a number of dishes here over the years and it's solid food with good quality ingredients and large portions. I can't however say that there is one thing in particular here that I really like, that I keep coming back for or crave. This might be due to the high prices. I got a salad here this time , the Oriental Noodle Salad, and when I added chicken, it was like $12. Granted, I had leftovers but it wasn't that good. It had way too much soy sauce and a simple flavor profile. Fresh quality ingredients and large portions but not outstanding flavor. I've had burgers here too and they are just ok, nothing special. The vegetarian hummus burger was alright, not outstanding flavor though. Fries are fresh cut but very basic. Maybe I should stick to the breakfasts. My friend said her Eggs Beni was awesome; English muffins are homemade. And I've heard the Huevos Montana is so yummy. I do remember the chicken soup they serve daily being really good. Just haven't found my favorite thing here yet. The menus are irritating here; lots of commentary. I prefer Echo Lake Cafe over Pocketstone. read more

While enjoying a recent Monday in Bigfork during our Flathead Valley vacation, a couple of shopkeepers recommended Pocketstone Cafe for lunch. We checked out other reviews on Yelp and decided to go later in the lunch period (around 1:15 p.m.) to avoid the crush.... yes, even on a Monday they are pretty busy. We were quickly seated, but I felt the wait was a little long before we got water and a hello from our server. Unfortunately, the service did not improve. Our server was friendly enough, but did not keep our water and tea glasses filled, and the wait for our food was about 45 minutes for a basic breakfast and a jalapeno burger with cole slaw. There were ample servers, baristas and bus people on the floor, so the main issue must be with the kitchen. I will say the house-made English muffin that came with my breakfast was worth the price of admission (we bought two to take back to our rental)... but I'm not sure our lunch was really worth the wait. Next time, we'll buy the baked goods and skip the rest. read more

One of the worst experiences ever. We waited 45 minutes for a table when they said 15-30 minutes. We then ordered and after an hour my husband got his turkey sandwich with cold fries. The rest of the table didn't get food until 20 minutes later and all orders were wrong. Not worth it!!! read more

If Bigfork is my 'home away from home' for a few days, then the Pocketstone Café is my 'kitchen away from my kitchen.' So far, I've been there two mornings and just love it. Walking through the door on my second visit, both Dave, the owner and Paulette, the server greeted me by my first name--as they do most visitors. The vibe is very comfortable, the place is very clean with an attention to detail, the coffee is hot, the food (an omelet this morning) is terrific. I wondered how the grits could be this good so far from the south! Dave, Paulette, and the other staff have hospitality down to an art form. I came as a patron, I left as a friend. The sandwich was fabulous but... After waiting 20 minutes to get in for lunch, it took another 15 minutes to be asked for drink order, another 10 minutes to take our food order, then almost an hour to be served! Then the fries arrived cold. This restaurant needs a better plan to handle their customers. read more

It's a good thing the food was tasty because it took almost an hour to get it to our table from the time we placed our order. It even took so long that our server came to ask us if we were ready for our check, and we had to remind her that we hadn't actually eaten yet. Although it was a Saturday afternoon on the cusp of tourist season, we were seated right away and the cafe was only about two-thirds full so the kitchen was just struggling (there was a sign on the door that said "now hiring kitchen help," which probably had a lot to do with our experience). I'm not sure the food was worth the price - two Reuben sandwiches, two bacon cheeseburgers, and four sodas was $61 - but the cafe did have a very rustic and enjoyable ambiance. read more
