The food is incredible's fresh. The service was good, the restaurants ambience itself is a little dated, but very local type feel. Three stars. because I don't like dragging down ratings with negative reviews. This hopefully reaches the owner or manager. We visit Big Fork every year, our family has a house in town. So we've been to Grateful Bread many times. Every, single, time, we leave disappointed, not in the food but in the service and the wait. The food is okay. Honestly, because of how long you have to wait to get it, I'd expect something out of this world, but it comes out as run of the mill eats. At this point, we know what to expect when we go in. What GB has going for it, is that there aren't a lot of options in town. Last week we went in before hitting up Harvest Foods, saw that there were just three tables of people and thought, ok, let's give it a shot, surely we won't have to wait TOO long. We were short on time so we ordered two Avocados toasts, one with bacon. That's it. With only three other tables in the house, it took 30 minutes. As we sat there, about 6 more tables came in. With ONE waitress. With also whom I can presume is the owner as I've seen her time and time again, also bringing out food, there was absolutely no hussle. Listen, I worked in food service for a decade. When I worked, I moved. People were waiting to have their order taken. The bell would ring that food was ready and it would sit there. The owner surely could have been taking orders too. Heck, you could even give the tips to the waitress! Maybe there is a worker shortage in Big Fork, I don't know. But girl (owner), you gotta be hustlin' to make up for it. And no offense to the waitress but girl, you too. Or hire a busser, someone to bring out food and cleanup, ring people up. In any case, it's always this way. We hadn't been in a few years and gave it a shot again. As we were walking out, I said "well that wasn't THAT bad", as in having to wait that long for food and watching people just sit there in silence wait for the waitress and then their food is a good thing. Gene let us know there would be a slight delay due to a large take out order being filled but assured us the food would be well worth the wait. Not only was the food delicious, the service was top notch. The big surprise was Gene was not the owner. It was shocking the amount of care he took to represent his restaurant in a good light. Stopped in after a fishing trip. They close at 2:45/3pm and we arrived around 2. Only a couple pastries left in the pastry case. Lunch specials were yummy, bread was nicely toasted and fries were crispy. Bummed that we couldn't pay to upgrade fries to a cup of soup as a side - we were told that wasn't an option. We arrived at 2:30 and were told they close at 3:00. We ordered anyway. My husband got a Turkey Cranberry sandwich and I got a Swiss Mushroom Burger. The restaurant is a cute woodland theme, but dark. The food came to the table at 2:50. The burger was good. It came with fries that were very good. The Sandwich didn't seem to have anything to do with Cranberries, and was Turkey and mayo on very good bread. It was good. The waitress was very kind. We left at 3:18. read more

I am rounding up my rating because of my specific experience today. When we arrived, we were told they were only offering half the menu. Fortunately, Mulligatawny was available; this is Rebecca's favorite portion of the menu. We each ordered a cup and split a pastrami sandwich. When the order came out, each of us got a tray with a cup of soup and a half sandwich. Rebecca got the frites and I got a slice of sourdough break. The soup was warm, the sandwich big enough to eat, but not so big that the insides fall our as you hold it. The frites were just right. I write because the staff was short one person, so the cook was alone in the kitchen. He deserves a medal. The food was just right and we enjoyed our meal, just the kind of local place we all need to support. Come in for lunch; it is well worth it. read more

We were stuck behind a traffic jam and running late to get to our whitewater rafting reservation (I know, first world problems) so my daughter and I were looking for something quick to grab and eat in the car as we drove from Bigfork to West Glacier. We had noticed Grateful Bread when we arrived the previous day and thought it sounded like a great place to pick up some sandwiches to go. They did not disappoint! This cute little cafe is more than just a sandwich spot. While definitely heavy on the baked goods, they also offer tasty-sounding breakfasts as well as beer and wine. I was sad we didn't get to stay and linger over some biscuits & gravy, but rafting awaited. So I ordered a curried chicken wrap and my daughter ordered a chicken caesar wrap. Before ordering, I let the lady at the counter know we were in a bit of a time crunch, and she said our wraps would take about 15 minutes to prepare. They were busy, so the wraps took more like 20 minutes and the staff seemed pretty harried, but eventually we got 'em and bolted out the door. I nibbled on my wrap as I drove, not an easy feat as this baby was stuffed FULL of chicken and a curry salad mix featuring lettuce, grapes, almonds and a delicious curry sauce. I was a little disappointed that the chicken was not mixed in with the salad - a minor point, but it didn't have any of that delicious sauce on it. My daughter enjoyed her caesar wrap, and we were pleased that each wrap came with a small bag of Tim's potato chips (which we enjoyed later for a rafting snack). I was sad we didn't have more time in Bigfork, as I would have loved to go back and check out Grateful Bread's yummy-sounding breakfasts! read more

Came here with my husband during my lunch break. The shared the Reuben and the cheesesteak. The Reuben was the clear winner. I liked the fries and they give you a dipping sauce for it which is alright. I'm not sure what's in it but my husband swore he tasted horseradish so he didn't like the dipping sauce. read more

Tuna sandwich was delicious! Hubby wanted a turkey wrap that they don't have on the menu and they only put meat and cheese, no lettuce, onion, tomato... My sandwich came with a side of slaw, which I put into his wrap to add some dimension. I would definitely return for the tuna, great dill flavor. read more

Wow! Simply WOW! My friend and I are from Salt Lake City, and came to visit a friend. He was off doing things so we decided to try this place. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! I will dream about their hobo bread and jam. I got the veggie scrambler and left happy and stuffed. Also their sangrias are massive (not complaining) so be ready for that. They are doing a great job with COVID guidelines, and even have a sign saying they are short staffed - so be patient - but it's so worth it. Bigfork is such a cute little town and has some great places to eat. Grateful bread is one of them. So much love goes into their food. Fresh baked bread, delicious homemade soups and freshly made everything down to their Bloody Mary mix! I've had the Cobb salad twice and it's always full of fresh, tasty ingredients. We also had the curry soup and it was fantastic. Yellow curry with fresh veg and a nice hearty scoop of rice on top. The fish burger sounded strange, but it was a TKO! Two giant pieces of fish on a fresh bun with homemade tartar and fry sauce to go with the thick, hand cut fries. We were too full to try anything else, doggone it. Our service was excellent, super attentive and refilled our water repeatedly. There was a big crowd, had no effect on the quick service and tastiness of the food. read more

What a cute little place and what great food. Atmosphere is sunny and cheerful and Modern Pinterest Farmhouse. There are little vases with a single flower on each table and there was a guy in the corner playing a banjo for tips when we walked in. Service was basic, competent, and friendly. They do takeout or sit down with table service. We immediately walked up to the dessert counter (because obviously) and the woman running the takeout register there greeted us and told us they had table service, which was nice; it's always hard to figure that out at a new place. Menu is extensive and full of brunch/cafe type dishes--scrambles, sandwiches, soups, etc. they serve cocktails and wine and beer, and of course lots of desserts. We ended up both getting the veggie burger, which was delicious, and sharing a cinnamon bun, which was fantastic. The ratio of icing to bun was perfect and I'm pretty sure the icing was homemade. They make a lot of their stuff in house (they have a list on the menu). Very vegetarian friendly. A little trickier if you're more than vegetarian: no tofu scramble option for the egg dishes, but a grilled cheese for lactose-vegetarians and some soups and salads and the aforementioned veggie burger which all seem like possible vegan options. read more

We stopped here a week ago and we're told they had closed and went out of business. So sad this was a really great place with super pastries. Update, the owner has advised that they are only closed during winter for remodeling and will return. After recently moving here we will look forward to returning on a regular basis. I was in Bigfork and decided to stop at Grateful Bread to have lunch. What a pleasant surprise, the service was awesome, the food came out very fast and was excellent! I will definitely go back there again. Auburn my waitress was sweet and kind, (and it was very busy) but she acted like we were her only priority. I would highly recommend the cranberry turkey sandwich it was excellent. It was an extremely friendly environment and they have live music at lunch, he was wonderful! Decided to stop for a quick lunch we did not get that. 3 sandwiches 1 fish and chips. The waiter seemed nice the lady filling the water seemed like we were in her way. Took over 45 minutes to recieve our meals. The food was fair, not great but not bad. Paid for our meal did not tip due to slow service on the receiving the food in a timely manner. The waiter came out and asked if the service was bad and just informed him that the meal came out so slow. Oh, man, this place is GOOD. We were on a road trip to Montana from Seattle and stayed in Bigfork for a few days. We got morning coffee at Gourmet Galley and asked them if they recommended any other places for similar food. (Maybe not organic, but homemade, fresh, etc.) The people at Galley recommended Grateful Bread which I had seen during Yelp search but what I saw on Yelp hadn't left much of an impression. I was wrong. So very wrong. From the outside it looks like a little hole in the wall, but the inside is pretty bustling and cozy. The staff is WONDERFUL and the displays of baked goods... OH MY. Jackpot. Our first afternoon there, I got the quiche of the day - Chile Relleno (with a little side of salsa/sauce and sour cream and shredded cheddar!) I had to get a cinnamon pull apart to go, and husband got a sandwich (it was the Chubby-something, we forget the exact name, but he said it was GREAT.) Not expecting much, I got a latte also and it was surprisingly decent. We rushed back over the next morning for breakfast before heading home. I got the chile relleno quiche again (almost wanted to get two slices), more coffee, and LOTS of baked goods for the road and to take to family at home. Cinnamon roll (these are my weakness), some chocolate granola bar things, huckleberry cheese danishes, and a big loaf of their hobo bread. I have never had hobo bread before and man did I feel like crying when we finished it up, days later. The hobo bread is possibly the best bread I've ever had. It's soft and chewy - crispy on the outside when you toast it, and has great flavor. GET THE HOBO BREAD if you go here. Seriously. Worst service ever!!! Stopped in for a quick to go order. We were standing waiting for our food. The (our guess was the owner) told the 6 of us to wait outside for our food. Also telling us we aren't real customers after spending $35.00 for some cinnamon rolls. He was very impolite And rude. While i was standing there inside waiting. I over heard him telling a table that they need to sit together. "He was worried about it being a busy breakfast" there was 12 people in the whole place.
