We have stayed at POD twice (July 2025 and June 2026) and had great experiences both times. The rooms are efficient, stylish, and clean. My 9yo daughter is OBSESSED with the bunk bed room option - so fun! The location is great- walkable to so much and every form of public transportation is within a few blocks. POD serves as a great home base to set out and explore. Especially appreciate the option to check bags before check-in and after check-out. Last year they offered for us to check in at 9a because there was a room available. We also enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor lounge areas. We'll be back again! read more

I really enjoyed the simplicity and cost effectiveness of this hotel! We typically never stay at a hotel when staying in NYC, but needed a place close to time square since we were attending an event 5 mins away from Tim Square and we were only in town for 24 hrs. Location is PERFECT!!! Now it's not actually IN time square but you can literally see it on the same street. You're about a 6 mins walk away from the end / start of time square. You're centrally located when staying in Manhattan. The hotel was trendy and chic. I booked it through Airbnb, I was able to get a reasonable price for the one night. The downstairs area was a little weird. Upon arrival you walk into the door and it's just an elevator, the lobby is on the second floor. So you take the elevator to the lobby and go from there. Check in was easy peasy. We stayed on the 8th floor and had a view of the Empire State Building from our bed. There's room was clean, the bed was alright not the most comfortable bed, But better than an air mattress lol. It's a super tiny room it's literally a bed and bathroom. Just enough space for sleeping and getting ready. It's exactly what we needed since we were only in the room for 6 hours in total. There's a full bar, happy hour, rooftop, and lounge areas that look reallyyyy aesthetic. The subway was only a 7 mins walk away from the hotel. There's tons of food spots nearby. read more

The Pod Hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of Port Authority and Penn Station/Moynahan Hall. The entrance is one elevator up to the lobby, then a second elevator to the rooms so it felt safe and secure. It's comfortable enough, with efficiently designed and very industrial feeling guest rooms. We had no closet, just hooks and a clothing rack on the wall. Like most hotels in the City, there isn't a square inch of space more than necessary in the room. To create more of a send of space, the shower has a glass wall (opaque enough not to be seen through) behind which (entered through one of those sliding barn doors) the toilet also sits. While as far as possible from and not visible to any other guest in the room, it's sadly not sound proofed, likely because of that glass wall. The room we stayed in also wasn't well sound proofed, so hall noise came through loud and clear. The view from our room window (the window could be opened, yay!) was a bit industrial too, with a network of highway in the foreground and a nice city scape just beyond. I loved that! (see the picture) There's a bar/restaurant to the left of the hotel reception desk - not the one listed in the elevator as being there by the way - called Bar 42 (in the evening) or Cafe 42 (breakfast and maybe lunch). The cocktails were quite good! We didn't try the food. The hotel advertises daily walking tours and other things of interest on the chalkboard column between reception and the restaurant. Check in and out were easy and we had no problem leaving bags so we could walk around unencumbered after checkout. There were two separate places to sit and wait for the last half hour too. All in all, this was a no frills but but comfortable enough, and really convenient, place for us to stay. It was a quick subway ride to the museums & theatre we were in NYC to enjoy. read more

Why a 5 star when the Yelp average is 3.5 you ask? Let me tell you... Sure, you could go down the street and stay at the Ritz Carlton for two grand a night and, sure, that would put this to shame. But you're getting this place for pennies on the dollar compared to that. The value and quality here are what make it a true 5 star. I spent maybe one waking hour in the room outside of sleep. I don't need the Ritz. Give me a clean and modern spot in a perfect location. The rooms are small, but totally fine for a quick break from the city or a solid night's sleep. My room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, WiFi was fast, TV worked great, and the city view was beautiful. Times Square never sleeps, and I expected some noise. None. Zero. There are more expensive hotels nearby that actually hand out earplugs. I'd never stay somewhere that needs to do that. The staff here were all friendly and helpful, all six elevators ran smoothly, and the place was safe and secure. The hotel lounge was upscale and comfortable, perfect for relaxing with a drink before heading out. The room was wonderful. Very clean and just enough space for the both of us. The staff were very patient as we had some issues with payment on our end, and made sure we felt comfortable. The hotel itself presides high over the streets below, making us feel safe. Also considering there were two elevators and hotel key tap points to get up to your room, we felt protected. We received a room cleaning with new towels and soap each day, which was greatly appreciated. The lounge was comfortable and mellow, a good break from the chaos of the city. The outdoor deck was closed as the exterior of the building was receiving renovations, so not having access to that was a bummer. The hotel's location was great. We loved how close it was to Times Square, and also the ease of getting to the subway. HOWEVER, one thing you should consider (not the hotel's fault) is that W 42nd St, which leads you to Times Square, is pretty sketchy. There were almost always other pedestrians around, however me and my friend almost got tased, and there were plenty of sketchy people lurking outside the bus center. All things considered, I loved staying here, and would definitely recommend it to any one who wants to be in the heart of NYC without breaking the bank. read more

Came here mid-July for a solo trip. This was the only hotel I could find with high ratings on hotel booking site while also less than 200. I felt like I got a lot of value for that price. I had a double bed, it would have been tight with one other person. My biggest takeaway was that this place had incredible ac for being such a huge building and a hotel!!! I've never had that good air con in a hotel room before, I actually wanted a blanket. The two elevators are annoying but also add to the security of the building. The atmosphere felt closer to a hostel than a hotel, socially. I was impressed with the variety of ages staying at the hotel. It's very close to lots of transit options. Thoroughly enjoyed my 6-night stay here. They are totally transparent about the size of their rooms, which don't seem that much smaller than other tiny NYC hotel rooms. Big windows and a nice view. It felt like a calming escape in the busy city. it kind of gives dorm room - very practical room with bare basics but perfect for visitors/travelers! i had a bunk bed room and it did exactly what i needed it to do - hot shower and comfy bed. i liked how each bed had their own TV (but sometimes one remote would control both TV's). Negatives: our bathroom door didnt close and the shower curtain did not do a great job keeping the water so our bathroom floor was always really wet. Highlight of this hotel was def the staff!! I came here for an event held at the hotel bar so I can only speak to that experience. I also stuck to water so I can't speak to anything related to food or alcohol. The space itself is very nice and they had a separate room that we got to be in for the event. Staff I interacted with was helpful and getting to the main floor is a bit interesting since you have to push the elevator button to get there. It's not located in the same area you walk into when going into the building, which is either very smart or very confusion. I haven't decided which it is. read more

Short and busy trip to NYC. Just needed something, clean, modern, and close to the train to rest my head after late nights. Sometimes I go fancy, but on a trip like this where I wasn't going to be in the room much, I go modern & cheap like the Pod or Yotel hotels. This hotel was great. Hector gets a special mention for being freaking awesome. His hospitality alone would make me return. If you're not going to be in your room much, why spend the $? These modern compact hotels go a long way when trying to save money when you aren't spending much time there. I'd recommend in a heartbeat:) clean, clean, clean. I love that. Pod Times Square was a great value. Super affordable stay right in the middle of NYC. We saw a Broadway show, so we wanted to be within walking distance of the theatres. Our room was clean and convenient; the front desk staff were super helpful, too. I know there are complaints about the size of the rooms, but that's literally the point! They're supposed to be small, so you can stay at cheaper rate. If you're in the city to go out and don't plan to be in the room the whole time, this is a great option. I took an overnight trip to NYC for a concert at MSG and somehow found this little gem of a place while searching the Internet. Location 5/5 Pod Times Square is conveniently located on 42nd and 9th, just a 10 minute walk from Moynihan Train Station and an even shorter walk to Port Authority. Times Square is only a block away, yet the area immediately around the hotel is relatively quiet in comparison to that bustling hustle! Plenty of amenities all around, too! Service 5/5 I arrived at Pod about an hour and a half before my scheduled check-in time, thinking I would only be dropping off my suitcase, but the front desk receptionist happily offered to check me into my room early, which was awesome. Everyone I encountered throughout my stay was friendly and hospitable. Hotel 5/5 I'd like to note here that Pod is not a huge, luxurious hotel with roomy guest quarters, as the name would imply. I chose a bunk room, which, as you would imagine, had bunk beds. The room was compact, yet comfortable for one person, and had all of the amenities one would need for a comfortable and affordable place to sleep for a night or two. I will definitely consider Pod on future trips to NYC. read more

Immediately noticed it would be a great experience when I witnessed Sahar in guest services handle other guests. She smiles, is polite, explains concisely, and makes you feel welcomed. Very friendly and set the tone for a great stay. The rooms were clean and nice but oh lord extremely small. We barely had room to move around. It was perfect for a one night stay and you're in the center of everything, including trains nearby. Convenience store right next door, tons of restaurants, and lots of bars. Guest services came within minutes when we needed help setting up the TV and shower gel. They even provide toothbrush upon request. There's a nice cozy bar in the lobby with reasonable prices with food and plenty of seating. The night bartender was very friendly and welcoming as well. The place is affordable and nice, it just feels too cramped for my style but because of the service, I would definitely go back and recommend this place. Overall rating is a 3.5. Great service, convenient location but realistically not a 4 star in comparison to other hotels. read more

Stayed for a few nights on a business trip - normally I would not have considered this place but the UN General Assembly had driven all the hotel prices sky high and was the only reasonably priced option. Well, what a delightful surprise! The rooms are small but extremely well designed - I had a "Queen Pod" very clean, everything worked, shower was nice and well appointed, had a desk and enough space to work. Service came discreetly when I was at a meeting, without me asking for it, and everyone I met to a person was sincerely well meaning and friendly. Took advantage of their happy hour, and my old fashioned was very good. Their lounge is pleasant and there were tons of interesting people from all walks of life. Super convenient location close to the subway, the theater district and Grand Central. Tons of interesting bars, cafes and restaurants going north on 9th Ave. I will happily return the next time I'm there for a weekend getaway! read more

I want to start by saying that Engineering (Ralph) and the night shift front desk staff provided fantastic customer service. Unfortunately, the situation itself was extremely serious and could have ended much worse. I was staying in a bunk room and placed my necklace and phone on the shelf before going to sleep, something I had been doing regularly. Around 12:00 AM, a spark suddenly flew out from that area and nearly hit my face it luckily only hit my leg. At first, we thought it might have been a one-time incident, but between 12:30-1:00 AM, it continued to spark multiple times. It burned the sheet, and there was a strong smell of something burning. The burn marks were exactly where I would have been laying if I had been asleep, which is very concerning. We called downstairs, and the night front desk was extremely helpful and quickly sent engineering up. Ralph arrived promptly and witnessed the sparks himself, even experiencing them firsthand. After assessing the situation, he confirmed we needed to change rooms around 1:30 AM. When we went downstairs, the night shift front desk contacted the hotel manager, who was also very helpful. We were told that two nights would be comped and that we would be upgraded the following morning between 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. However, the experience the next day with SHAWN and SHAWNA was completely different. They were unhelpful and had an attitude throughout the interaction. We were unable to receive the rooms we were promised, and we were told to leave our belongings downstairs while waiting. I was not comfortable doing that, especially since we had already checked in on time to avoid this exact situation. We were placed in a temporary room just to change and get ready, but were told not to lay on the bed so it wouldn't be "messed up" for the next guests. We are now left waiting for another room to become available, with no clear resolution, despite being told otherwise. This situation could have turned into something far more serious, including a possible fire or serious injury. While I truly appreciate the professionalism and urgency from the night staff and engineering, the lack of follow through and poor customer service from the daytime staff was disappointing and frustrating. read more

Good price for NYC but still expensive. I stayed from Friday to Sunday. Rooms are small, neat and quiet with a large window with windows that open a bit. Bed was a platform bed and comfortable. Frosted glass walls in most bathrooms don't provide a lot privacy. But if you are on your own it's not a problem. Neiborhood seemed safe, busy and full of small resturants and families that we passed on the way to Times Square and Broadway. Heat was not working well in my room and the shower had some black resedue that needed cleaning. Service was friendly and they upgraded my room without me asking. All age groups stayed here but it seems pitched toward a younger crowd with an industrial chic lobby. Guests were polite and somewhat international as you would expect in NYC. The resturant was closed but the bar was open and it was ok to bring food in and then use the tables in the resturant if you liked. You can check your bags if you are checking in early or need to leave them until your plane is leaving. read more

To say I loved staying here would be an understatement. It's situated right near time square and it is within walking distance to so many things. Not to mention everyone who works there is incredibly nice. Now keep in mind it's called the pod hotel for a reason. The rooms are small but actually quite cute. My husband and I stayed in the full room and it was more than enough. The room we stayed in was on the nineteenth floor and had a pretty good view. The bed was comfortable and the layout was quite clear. It has everything you need; a comfortable bed, bathroom and space to put your luggage. The bathroom also has this cool frosted glass layout so you can't see someone in the shower within the bedroom. The hotel has a restaurant attached and it is just meh kind of Italian food. 10/10 I would stay here again. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect when I got here. I knew this place had great reviews but at the same time, the concept was new to me. Full disclosure, I am 64 years old and I was probably twice the age of the oldest person here. Not a problem. Not a problem at all! To be honest, it's very much like a hostel, but with rooms with locks and doors. I had a private room. I was a little hesitant as I went through the hallway, but once I opened my room, it was great. Posh? Nope. I didn't sign up for that. A comfortable bed, a clean room, and an amazing shower! I was in New York City for a funeral. It was a very quick trip. Seriously, if I had more time, I would've explored this area a lot more. It's a really great place to be. The location is incredible. On the second night, I had a little issue because someone in a neighboring room was apparently smoking and it was getting into my room in a pretty major way. I called down to the desk and they sent somebody up. Apparently they were unable to find the source. It happened again about an hour later and they immediately came up again. Apparently they found the person was upstairs and had them stop. I'm guessing this is not a common occurrence since it is a no smoking hotel, but it was impressive how quickly Staff was willing to respond. There is no full service Restaurant, but there is a bar downstairs that opens for breakfast in the mornings. It's pretty basic. Bagels, pastries and coffee. Unless you're in a big hurry, I would probably skip this and find one of the other amazing eateries in the neighborhood. That said, the server/bartender was awesome. If I ever have the opportunity to return to New York City, I will definitely look into getting a room here again. read more

I stayed at this hotel for three nights this past weekend, and it was a fine place to stay. It was very afforable compared to other hotels in the city (I think I paid around $200/night), but you get what you pay for. These are tight little rooms - no frills. My room had a full bed, but they also have rooms with bunk beds. I had enough room to open my suitcase and that was about it. The room didn't have great blinds, so I couldn't get it super dark at night. The furniture and mattress are pretty basic, so don't expect anything too comfortable or luxe. It's a tall, tall building (I was on the 14th floor, not very high up), and you have to take two elevators: one elevator takes you from the street level to the lobby and another from the lobby to the floor with rooms. It ight add a little bit of time to your morning commute. Overall, it's not a bad place to stay, it has the basics and can save you a bit of money. The location absolutely makes this place. I think it's technically closer to Hell's Kitchen than Times Square, but it's super convenient. Basically at 9th/42nd. You're a long block from the A/C/E line, about 2 to 1/2/3 and most of the orange letters. You're across the street from the bus terminal, maybe 1/2 mi from the train station and Madison Square Garden. I was traveling alone, so I booked the cheapest room (bunks) but they upgraded me to a full without charging extra, so that was nice. The view was excellent. The bed was okay, though I would have liked a thicker blanket. It's the usual quality for a budget place. The water got surprisingly hot in the small bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, it is tiny and the door is designed not to close completely. So you need to be really comfortable with whoever you're with if you're not traveling alone. Also, for the same reason, bring Febreze or something. If you don't stink up the toilet, you'll probably get a stale water smell from where the shower doesn't drain completely. Again, if you're used to budget places, nothing new. I got a fantastic deal here, so if I can get anywhere near that price again, I will stay here again. I was doing a three-day vacation in New York city and was looking for a place to stay that wouldn't break the bank. The Pod absolutely delivers. This five-star rating is to rate the hotel for what it is, i.e., an affordable place to stay in one of the most visited tourist destinations surrounded by some of the most expensive real estate on the planet Earth. So yes, the rooms are small, but they're small because if you're on vacation in New York City, you're not going to be spending a whole lot of time in the hotel. Rooms are clean and neat, which is definitely important for a cheap hotel. The hotel itself is a walk of about two blocks from Times Square and all of the major tourist destinations, while also lying just south of Hell's Kitchen. There's a good hotel bar at the lobby level as well. Each room has a safe if you want someplace to stash valuables like a passport, tablet, etc., and setting the combination is super-easy and intuitive. All told, if you're looking for an affordable place to stay in Manhattan and don't mind a small room, the Pod is your best bet. read more

There's no water provided but there is a store on every block in any direction for miles with water. It's quiet given the context of the location. It's clean. The beds are comfortable after a day of nonstop activity. The shades allow you to block out light to get a good night's sleep. If you are going to be out all day this is the place to stay. If you need a hotel to hang out during your stay you should likely cough up double or triple the price to stay somewhere else. read more

As a prior Pod guest, I know what to expect: no frills in a small space. I'm always kind of amused by reviewers who book a "pod" and then complain about a tiny room. This hotel is not in the heart of Times Square. It's about a 20 minute walk from Grand Central right down 42nd St, passing Bryant Park and plenty of tourist traps along the way. Expect lots of foot traffic and crowds. Once in the building, you take a glass elevator up a couple floors to the lobby. We received early check in, which was great. I appreciated the secure entry - no one without a room key gets past the lobby. Our room on the 13th (!) floor was pretty quiet considering the location. The shower was great. The pillows were crap, but the beds were comfortable. Keep in mind, the ladder for the upper bunk is very steep and hard on bare feet, and definitely requires some coordination. Bonus: A grocery store is right around the corner on 9th (I have reviewed Big Apple Meat Market separately). We would have loved a mini fridge, but otherwise we had everything we needed for a one night stay. After checkout they offered free luggage storage, so we were able to explore for a couple of hours without being tied to our bags. A solid four stars. Yes, I would stay here again. read more

My mom and I stayed here for a little over a week during our vacation. I booked a queen-sized bed with a private bathroom. The room is on the smaller side, but that didn't bother us--we're both pretty petite! It was clean, which is what I care about most. I'm deducting one star because the bed is uncomfortable, it's on the older side. The location is very central--just 1 to 3 subway stops from most places we visited, and about a 10-minute walk to Times Square and Central Park. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby and a market that has everything from snacks to toiletries. The gym is decent too, with a cable machine, some cardio equipment, and dumbbells. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I really appreciated the option for late check-out. Overall, I was very happy with our stay! read more

This was our first pod style experience and it was amazing! My wife and I aren't typically used to these styles of hotels as we like to side on more upscale hotels. My wife had watched a travel show depicting experiences in Asia where pods are more prevalent and she wanted us to try too. The room is very small but I can't say that it was an issue. It made the experience a lot more intimate and made us feel very fortunate. The room itself was VERY CLEAN. This is why I always lean towards more expensive hotels because dirty rooms and bathrooms are my pet peeves. The restroom and shower here was extremely clean. The water heated up immediately! It was even snowing outside and sub 10 degrees. Yet the shower had no issue heating up. I read a few reviews of other hotels in time square in the same price range and there were horror stories of water not heating up or just extremely dirty hotels. We're definitely going to keep our eyes out for more pod style hotels moving forward. They're so cute, clean and just out right bang for your buck! Imagine a Venetian suite(las Vegas) experience but just shrunken down. This is going to sound gross, but is the only real issue if you are traveling with a partner. If you've ever been on a cruise ship then you are prepared for a stay at Pod Times Square. Tiny rooms, but very well appointed. My sister and I had a bunk bed room. The ladder is not the easiest or most comfortable for climbing if you are an adult. The rungs are very narrow and not easy on bare feet (which you normally are when going to bed). The beds themselves each have a TV (although we could only get one remote to work); a little electronic cubby that has a plug and 2 USB ports, and a small light. The beds also have a padded back for sitting (which, as the rooms are very tiny, you spend time sitting on your bed as well). The bathroom has a nice size shower, with dual heads, and a compact sink. We did have issues with the sink clogging and it took a couple of requests to have that fixed. The hotel is in a great location, only a couple of blocks from the huge Penn Station for busses and subway usage. Times Square is within walking distance as well. I found the front desk staff, for the most part, to be polite and efficient. I did ask for the room to be vacuumed, but it was the "off" day for vacuuming, so it didn't get done at all during our stay. We had eaten in the room a couple of times and the carpet being black it really needed a vacuum after a day or so. I wasn't aware it had to be requested only on specific dates (still not sure where I would have found that info). I would have given it a higher star rating except for the vacuum and the fact that I saw them bump young single people to a larger room, but when I requested it, we were told no. We are two older ladies, and a Queen would have been easier on the back, but such is life. The doormen/security seemed to have an affinity for the younger, hipper crowd too.
