Coffee with espresso shot. Ignore my ashy hands.

I stopped into Poetica Coffee for a cup of Joe to go but I really wish I could've stayed. The atmosphere of this cute little place, is so clean and cool and airy. There was a phenomenal mix of Neo Soul and R&B playing. My regular coffee with espresso add-in was tasty. If I have another appointment in that area, I'm gonna arrive early and stay awhile. Poetica Coffee has a book shelf full of exciting and interesting reading material. Good stuff.

I'll be honest: the first time I tried this place, I wasn't a huge fan. I went with the intention of working from the coffee shop. The place has a decent amount of seating with a variety of different chair and couch options. I found a spot near an outlet, ordered a coffee, set up my workspace, and then learned the WiFi wasn't working. I was bummed, but it wasn't anyone's fault. Unfortunately, I went to pick up my coffee and the barista was not very pleasant. In conclusion: not a great experience. I decided to give this place another shot, and I'm so glad I did! The coffee was tasty, the barista was very sweet, and I noticed they had a free book exchange (extra brownie points!!). They also have a rewards system, so make sure you sign up if you think you'll be visiting more than once.

Both times I have visited here, it was because I came from a facial and I needed a place with wifi. And it delivered. I didn't know this was a small chain and this is the only location I have been. They have indoor seating and outdoor. They have a sharing library so you can exchange books for free. If you go to local cafes for drinks you won't get anywhere else, their claim to fame is the Poetica which has vanilla, brown sugar in hot and iced. I had it iced and it is a nice level of sweetness. They also have seasonal specials to look out for. I went on Wednesday my second go around and I didn't know this before but they offer 50% pastries on Wednesdays. So I enjoyed a croissant for the table and ordered macarons to go (which they had in various flavors like white chocolate, cheesecake, pistachio and seasonal variations like pumpkin spice and gingerbread). The vibes are comfy. Not like a loved worn couch but definitely not sterile. Especially with the art on the wall. The WiFi was good and the person who made my coffee was polite and let me know things to enjoy my time. Overall I would come back for a third and fourth time.

Cute and cozy coffee shop with delicious drinks! The barista was also very friendly! We loved the matcha lemonade and iced Poetica! Both were DELICIOUS! Perfect on a hot summer day!

WOW what a wonderful place! No wonder I would see so many people going into this shop in the mornings. The croissants are ridiculously good! I am obsessed with the egg and cheese croissant now. I would have one daily...but not a good idea lol. Super buttery and flaky and just a nice portion size. I havent tried the coffee yet, but i will because it looks amazing!

Great coffee, nice selection of baked goods and desserts. Their backyard seating area is cute and quiet - great spot to get a coffee and get work done. UPDATE: There were rats running around in the backyard - never coming back.

    There's ice in the pastry.

There's ice in the egg and dill pastry. The chicken pastry was dry and it's cold on the inside.

Found warmth here on a cold windy day, their music playlist was nice, Andrew Bird, Erlend Oye, Rhye. Bathroom clean, good flush.

Coffee is great - cappuccino, latte, etc. but if we're being real THOSE CROISSANTS, so buttery, so magical. Just do it.

People have left some odd reviews of this place, including a one-star review for the restaurant…read moreapparently being highly politicized--a vibe I neither felt nor could visually identify within or without the establishment. I ordered a single burger and a Sudan spiced peanut butter latte, for ~$15! That's pretty inexpensive for New York City. I note this as some consider it overpriced. I suppose the food is fairly inexpensive, the lattes slightly higher than average. The "burger" comes wrapped in a homemade pita with diced cucumber, onion, and tomato, plus a few crispy, thick-cut fries and a yummy house sauce. It was a cool twist of the traditional burger and had a nice flavor. The sauce was like a slightly Mediterranean version of Big Mac sauce. The girl working as the barista and cashier was very nice and friendly. She had a nice presence and warm smile, made suggestions, and even gave a stranger free utensils when they popped on to ask. I think it's definitely worth checking out, and it's a good place for a cheap & simple meal that's still quirky and fun.

I have wanted to try this spot for some time, and wound up a bit disappointed with what I tried…read more They feature a tahini cold brew, which features two things I love dearly, but instead of a rich cold brew it was overly sweet and icy--more like a slushie. Perhaps I should have anticipated that, or my mistake in ordering. I also ordered a Moroccan egg salad sandwich which was substantive but surprisingly bland--sparse with the advertised capers and pickled red onions to give it more punch. I've always loved the look of the spot and the vibe--funky decor, outside and indoor facing counters to order, with some outdoor seating for people watching on Dekalb or heading nearby Ft. Greene Park. I see they are renovating and rebranding a bit and adding some burger component. While I didn't love it, I'd definitely give it another shot.
