I hesitate to leave a review of this place because it is a hidden gem. This is a great private shooting experience that allows you to get away from the inexperienced at a popular indoor range. We used the rifle range that extends from 100 yards out to 700 yards. If you have the equipment (appropriate scope and rifle) along with the ability to demonstrate 1 MOA accuracy beginning at 100 yards, you are able to progress further out at 100 yard increments. I really enjoyed speaking with Walter and found him to be very helpful. I will most definitely return. Memberships are inexpensively priced and expire/need to be renewed each September, just as hunting licenses do. read more

I love the privacy of this range! When we reserve range-time, we are usually the only shootets on the property. Plus, the land is beautiful! The rifle range has berms in a straight line every 100 yards, from 100 to 600 - plus a way to shoot diagonally st 700 yards. The concrete benches are adjustable and sturdy, although the bench on the right needs to be re-anchored to the ground. Range-owner Walter is very friendly and easy to work with. He provides one blank target-board per visit, and you can attach any number of targets to it. If you want to shoot at different ranges without moving targets, you can buy additional cardboard target-backing. Very casual and easy to shoot here, and as I said earlier - the land is beautiful! I found this place on Craigslist post. I bought a quail hunt for a Christmas present for me and my son. Hoped to go out in January. Well all the rain and my schedule kept pushing it out. Walter was great to work with and text communication was excellent!! Finally got out February 15 and it was a perfect day. His dogs made all the difference in a successful hunt. Great place to shoot by yourself. You reserve time slots in 2 hour increments and can shoot up to 600 yards. Would highly recommend.

I booked a time to go out to Poetry Shooting Club. And I'm glad I did. A man namer Mr Walter Patton is the owner. There's a 700 yard shooting range. You can book hunting with a guide if you Lille. There's a bird dog training facility. Pistol and rifle range. Quail Hunting Preserve. Deer are everywhere. A Family Style Private Club. I have been looking for a real shooting and hunting club for quite a while. I found it! Beautiful lakes. Great location. Just on the other side of Terrell. I am preparing for an elk hunt & was looking for a range where I could shoot out to 600 yards. I found Poetyry on the internet, called the number & spoke with Walter. He was very accommodating & scheduled me for a 2 hour time slot. The range is one shooter at a time, & must be scheduled. I absolutely love the privacy & safety of being the only one on the range. There are two concrete shooting benches that provide very sturdy platform. There is no cover so take some type of portable shade & water. I look forward to visiting regularly! read more

Talk about middle of nowhere! This property is really nice. 56 acres off TX 34 and over a mile inside the property to the office. If you are someone who likes the quiet and stars at night OR if you like hunting small game, this is a great place. They have dogs on the property that looked like hunting dogs and land as far as the eye could see. They have long ranges here for shooting and the owners couldn't be nicer. If you wanted to bring a camper and hang out a bit I'm sure they would rent some space for that too. read more

Fantastic place to shoot your rifle or pistol. When you book one of the two ranges, you have that range to yourself unlike indoor ranges where you are shooting next to someone you don't know. It's a peaceful experience and Walter is a great resource if you are a beginner and want to learn to shoot. If you are stuck in the city, his place is a great getaway from the concrete jungle. If you have any interest in shooting long distance this is the place for you. Also if you like to bird hunt especially quail, this is a great place very close to Dallas for guided and unguided hunts. You can also book the field for dog training. I strongly recommend Poetry Shooting Club for anyone who doesn't own land but wants to shoot out in the country. Mr. Patton runs a very nice range here and is a polite and friendly man. I enjoyed the distances that I got to shoot with my rifle and in privacy for an excellent price. In addition, I bumped a good sized doe on the drive in, so if I ever decide I want to hunt private land on Texas for whitetail I think I'll start here. A very unique range and club, and nothing I have seen back where I live in California. It's a quiet and relaxing experience and something I wish I had closer to home. I definitely will book another appointment here the next time I am over in this part of the country. There are also some Very Good dogs on the property but I only stopped by to greet them. I overheard someone talking about this club and decided to check it out and I'm glad I did! The big range is in increments of 100 yards out to about 600 and still another that goes all the way out to 700. There is concrete seating so you're not limited to the prone position. You can drive to each target which is awesome in the warmer months. Walter, who runs the club, seems like a really nice guy and their rates are great. What a fantastic place! I first took my Shorthair pup down to Poetry this summer to get some basic help from Walter, the owner of the club. Walter gave me some great practical advice, and it definitely helped me a lot. I've gone back several times now to rent Walter's homing pigeons for dog training, and this weekend to hunt quail for the first time with my pup. Just went back after not shooting for a while. Walter has made some amazing improvements to the place! Loved the battery operated skeet thrower (foot control so you can shoot solo too). It was really nice to be able to shoot skeet, then handgun, then rifle all the way out as far as you would ever want to take a shot at an animal. I can't think of another range nearby where you can do all 3. Best shooting experience in the area and I highly recommend. read more

Went out with my son-in-law today to work with the 300 WinMag. Shot from 100 to 500. Pretty good range, not very formal, but all you need to get a few shots in. Somewhat difficult to find. Be sure you have GPS if you're headed out there. read more

This place is great! Been coming here to train our dog on birds and the guy who owns it is always ready for us when we get there (even though we're often a few minutes late from our commute from Dallas.) You can't beat the price or the distance from Dallas, but on top of that, he's always available and helpful every time we go out to train our dog. Couldn't ask for anything better! read more

We visited Poetry Shooting Club last weekend with the cool mornings beginning to set in and had an amazing time with Walter's very kind assistance! The field was very nice where we worked our young Setter pup and Walter helped us set him up for success on some quail. He was very accommodating and welcoming.
