If you're booking this hotel, keep your expectations in line with the price -- New York is expensive, and for this budget, you're not getting a luxury stay. The hotel is old and definitely needs updates, especially in terms of cleanliness. The curtains are very dusty, the carpets need deep cleaning, and there's visible dust on some surfaces. However, the bed linen was clean and we were able to get a decent night's sleep. Location-wise, it's not very close to the subway, but Brooklyn is still a short ride from Manhattan, and taxis or rideshares are affordable. We did experience some issues with our room, but I truly appreciate that the hotel manager, Saul, personally contacted us and was very responsive. He offered great customer service and made sure our concerns were addressed. That made a big difference. So if you choose to stay here, I highly recommend contacting Saul directly if anything goes wrong -- he is kind, professional, and willing to help. I got a deal on groupon which is why I stayed here. The neighborhood was in a orthodox jewish area. Major culture shock! Literally everybody was in traditional attire, every woman had a stroller with kids, and all the men traveled solo. Oh yeah about the hotel, the decor in the hallways reminded me of a 70's movie but it was cute I liked it. The standard room was of course typical but it had a small kitchen area with hot plates, which was cool. I give customer service 5 stars, very welcoming, cooperative, and efficient. Only thing I found tacky was in the room for the continental breakfast they had tissue boxes in lieu of napkins/paper towels. Lol I would bring my own juice, they ran out by the time I got upstairs. Oh and the shower curtain was old, I saw what looked to be mildew. As far as traveling, it's not far from the subway and Mahattan is just a few stops away. It's also right by Marcy son! (for the jay-z fans.) lol Parking wasn't an issue at all on the weekends, in this neighborhood. I actually didn't have an issue parking in any part of Brooklyn. read more

No sleep til Brooklyn!! My grandma was worried about the hookers getting her and getting mugged in Manhattan, so I decided to stay here for a night. The reviews said it was safe and it was in a Jewish community. Okay, cool. It was like a whole new world. I know a few Jewish people, but these are real deal orthodox Jewish folks. Dressed in their attire with the black hats and black outfit with their braids on each side of the head. But hey it was cheap at $200 a night. One room slept all 5 of us and we were all safe from the hookers and muggers..lol. The husband was pissed at me, but I didn't hear no whining about getting mugged or hookers jumping on our car the whole trip. Affordable, about 15 minutes from Manhattan. Parking is in a parking garage a block or so from the hotel. No bars or anything within 10 minutes of the hotel. There's a jewish grocery store or something across the street. It was a decent place to stay for one night. I actually enjoyed the culture shock and the honking/yelling all hours of the night. It was definitely a different experience. Would I stay here again? We stayed in a suite for 5 and the room was very comfortable for us. Even the sofa bed was quite comfortable. We loved the kitchen(-ette?) even though no cookware or dishes were included. The extra sinks and the full refrigerator were useful during our stay. Breakfast was a bit simple and a bit crowded in the small breakfast room. But there was a reasonable selection for most people to enjoy. We particularly appreciated the filtered water dispensers in the breakfast room and also in the main hotel lobby. Parking was a bit difficult to find at night as the parkade entrance was not lit at night. But the parking facility was spacious and seemed quite safe. The Pointe Plaza Hotel is found in the center of a beautiful Hasidic Neighborhood . Inside of the hotel there are beautifully architected rooms with various amenities. Each room is beautifully decorated and comfortable . I would definitely return to this hotel for a stay . read more

Came with a Groupon. Neighborhood is Hasidic Jewish. We arrived Friday night and it was very quiet, and continued through Sat, the Sabbath. We kind of stuck out and were fascinated by the clothing and families. Felt very safe, nice quiet neighborhood. Hotel looked a little sketchy from the outside but inside was nice. Lots of tile and dark woodwork. Room was a nice suite. Incredibly high ceilings, nice but plain decor. Cool sink in the bathrooms. Welcoming bottle of wine in the kitchenette. Decent kitchen, fridge, 2 burners and two sinks marked with signs in Hebrew. We never figured out why. Upsides, nice safe neighborhood with some good on street parking. Subway not a bad walk away. Lots of funky cool places to eat in Williamsburg, not a bad walk away. Super comfy beds ( but not queensize as we thought) super nice front desk staff. Very helpful and professional. Downsides, thought we had queensize beds and pullout couch. Ended up with full and no couch. They brought a rollaway which was comfy for my teen son. Some of the fixtures dripped and were missing knobs. Some people might be uncomfortable in the predominantly Hasidic Jewish neighborhood. No fitness center. Very hasidic neighborhood. They offer a complimentary continental breakfast (before 10am) although my boyfriend and I preferred to go elsewhere. The Standard size rooms were a bit on the smaller size. The suites were better, with a living area and kitchenette, very spacious. If you're staying longer than a day or 2, I'd definitely recommend going with the suite. This is a non-smoking hotel. IF you do smoke (in your room), you will be charged a $200 fine. read more

I like this hotel. It's in Brooklyn so it's a subway ride away (with a train transfer) from Manhattan's Union Sq area. It's a 10-min walk from nearest subway. Price was really low in the winter and I got a suite, which would be good if I had wanted to prep my own meals in the room. There's free wi-fi. Room and bathroom were clean. Free breakfast was adequate. Check-in was very easy and staff was friendly. If you are low-maintenance and know your way around NYC and the boroughs, then this place will work well for you. read more

if you're looking for a safe neighborhood in Brooklyn and are not familiar with the area, this is the place. Easy highway access. The neighborhood is VERY orthodox Jewish. The locals are not very welcoming, but they don't bother you. It's about a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station which is safer and less scary than many in midtown. Everything shuts down in the immediate 5 block radius at about 9 pm. it's not a long walk though (about 15 minutes) to the area where there are alot of bars and restaurants. The front desk staff is beyond helpful and friendly. They have menus, subway maps, and lots of knowledge of local culture and know the areas to avoid. They are very prompt when you need something and call the front desk. Safe parking lot 1/2 a block away for $15/night The reasons I gave 3 vs. 5 stars. ICE is a problem. They have ice machine in the kitchen, and they will bring it to you if you call, but only enough for about 2-3 beverages. The "continental breakfast" is lacking. bigtime. No meat, processed cheese, unripe fruit, cold cereal. the coffee SUCKS! there is a close bakery that alleviates those needs though. overall, i enjoyed my stay, and would stay again. the safety and value is absolutely worth it. read more

Great Hotel! Great for female traveling alone ( I brought one of my best girlfriends). We felt perfectly safe in the neighborhood ( never having been here before) and just a couple of blocks from the subway that took us anyplace we wanted to go including Times Square! Staff if very friendly and super helpful for tourists . Great Free Breakfast. Our room had tile floor ( which I really like ) and every thing was super clean with nice comfy beds. This is a nice clean Jewish owned hotel and is affordable and in a safe Jewish community. There are no amenities or restaurants nearby, not even a pub. You have to get a cab everywhere. The worst part of the stay was the noise levels, kids running up and down the corridors unsupervised, noisy occupants of other rooms and even on the street. We reserved a room through Groupon. The deal included the hotel stay with a bottle of wine as well as dinner in a restaurant several blocks away. Total $159. The deal required us to reserve many weeks in advance and to mention our Groupon which we did. After fighting awful BQE traffic we arrived at 5:00 having only about an hour to shower, change, and go to our next engagement. Not so fast!! The desk clerk first told us that the Groupon had expired. When we showed her the actual document which clearly showed that was wrong, she just shrugged and admitted that the hotel management had decided just that day to stop honoring the groupons that day! (There were only 5 days left on the deal and everyone would already have been required to book) She suggested we call Groupon if we had a problem with that. We did just that and Groupon customer service first checked our records and then asked to speak with the desk clerk.A debate ensued about whether Groupon was in breach of it's agreement to send payment on the promotion. The argument had nothing to do with us. We had paid. Nevertheless, the hotel clerk refused to summon management and insisted she would not honor the Groupon. Instead she offered us a standard room if we would (again) pay the Groupon price of $159 and deal ourselves with Groupon for a refund on the deal. Whe n we pointed out that the deal was not just for a room but also for dinner at a restaurant not in the hotel and for a bottle of wine in the hotel we made no headway. We gave up and left, furious. Later that night -- much later, because we had other things on our agenda -- we finally found a room 2 hours away in Stamford. (the delay had to do with road construction) After being refuse a room at the Pointe Plaza because of a dispute that had nothing whatever to do with us, we finally checked into a hotel at 1:00 AM. I have tweeted to the hotel and used their contact form after searching for their manager's name on linkedin and facebook (try finding it on the website) . To date, no response. This is a horrible way to do business. Groupon is an advertising vendor. If they have a dispute with Groupon they should pursue it vigorously, but not by leaving me standing in the lobby with no place to sleep. The kicker? When we searched for alternate accomodations much later that evening we found that the going rate -- without the need to bid -- for the hotel that very night was $117 on Priceline. Never do business with people who will punish the public to gain advantage in a contract dispute with a vendor. For Groupon's part, aside from giving us a refund which the deal spells out they will do, they gave us a $40 credit for future purposes and what at least sounded like a sincere apology. The $40 did not begin to compensate us for our trouble not to mention added expense, but it was better than the shoulder shrug we got from the Pointe Plaza hotel. read more

I was looking for a place to stay in Brooklyn. The hotel is in an out-of-the-way location - at least for non-natives. I'm not too picky and stay in probably 30 hotels per year (biz travel). The room was fine (like a single-bedroom near studio apartment converted into a hotel). Simple complaints = 2 stars. not cheap. bathtub didn't drain, lukewarm hot water. told at front desk breakfast until 10:00AM. went there at 9:50 and was rudely told that this had closed and to go away. same for 2 other guys who came after me. Next time, I'm definitely going to the Marriott a few blocks away. Hope your experience at the Pointe Plaza - if you select it - is better than mine. read more

I got dirty looks when I went running, and a chilly reception at the two local businesses I patronized. Im an open-minded guy who does not discriminate at all, but I definitely felt out of place and a bit uncomfortable. To anyone reading this, especially out-of-towners- its a decent enough hotel with large, clean rooms. Fridge, WiFi, high ceilings. But you're going to stick out like a sore thumb unless you're Hassidic Jewish. Don't be shocked if the locals aren't thrilled you're there. read more

This is a crappy hotel. The paint is peeling and wearing off. The television picture is not clear and volume had to be on high when the a/c kicked on. I entered the room and found the window was open. The windows do not keep the sound of the traffic out of the room. It's even worse when people want to lay on the horn (which is often). The door to the hallway is just as bad. When people are talking in the hallway, it's like there is no door now.There is no place to set toiletries in the bathroom. Also, the cleaning staff did not obey the "Do Not Disturb" sign. They came in and cleaned the room even though I had the sign up.I hope Priceline does not choose this hotel for me again. read more

My son was living in Bay Ridge while on a summer internship. Where we would typically stay in Manhattan, we decided to stay in Brooklyn for a couple of days and just putz around taking in the sights of that city for a change. After hours and hours of Trip Advisor's research and reviews, we decided to check into the Pointe Plaza Hotel in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Simple enough to find but not so simple to park in order to check in. Not a huge deal if you have a travel companion. We hoped to check in early but the room wasn't ready so we went to my son's apt., left the car there and went into the city for the day. We checked in later that evening, found the lobby immaculate, the staff incredibly pleasant and helpful, and the room spotless...and enormous! We did our usual bedbug check, pleased to announce that they passed! We opted for the upgraded room with a TV which was worth the extra $10/nite, given the severe weather that everyone was watching. A lovely, fully-applianced (and CLEAN) kitchenette area, LOTS of storage for anyone planning a lengthy stay or traveling with kids. A nice, clean, albeit tiny, breakfast room on the 5th floor with a limited but fresh continental breakfast selection. The one downfall is the neighborhood (and the ONLY reason it is getting 4 stars and not 5). HAVING SAID THAT, I refer only to its sort of shabby, rundown condition. AT NO TIME did we feel unsafe walking the block from their *secured* parking lot to the hotel, and at dusk, nonetheless. We always manage to stay in NY neighborhoods on their designated "rubbish nights", meaning we are always dodging piles and piles of trash placed on the sidewalks for rubbish collection the next day. This stay was no exception. Whattaya gonna do? Trash happens. That was the worst it got in our schlep from the car to the hotel. What we learned in our research is that Williamsburg is the Hassidic Jewish community in Brooklyn. We were intrigued by this, as we would be traveling to the Amish country in PA. It was not for us, nor should be for anyone else, a deciding factor either for or against staying there. In reference to other's comments about the residents' unfriendliness there: we're invading their territory, their community. let 'em be. I know I wouldn't want the constant traffic of "tourists" in my face day in and day out. They owe us tourists nothing. We were looking for convenience and cleanliness, both of which we found here. I cannot comment on its location to public transportation as we drove to Bay Ridge each day to start our day from there. I would absolutely stay at the Pointe Plaza again, without hesitation, if we find ourselves in Brooklyn again. read more

A Jewish hotel. I'm non Jewish yet felt fine and welcomed. So clean, no questionable things at all. Suite setup so kitchen, bathroom, bedroom. Looked for a cheap stay and all $100-$200 rang had reviews of bed bugs, drugs, hookers.... This is in Brooklyn, but 3 mile walk into central Manhattan and Metro isn't far. Got a Brooklyn Special on Expedia and cost $115.00 a night. Worth more than double. Serve a lite breakfast too. Deep bath tubs. And again quiet, clean. I think best find I ever came across. Worth the short trip in. Near Williamsburg Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. Great hotel. And if you hit a special then it's like winning and going home with a good amount of money. 5 Star all the way. I'm giving this hotel 5 stars based on value, safety of neighborhood, cleanliness, staff and room amenities. We come to New York on business and stay several times a year. This was our first visit to Pointe Plaza. Staff was eager to please and sincere on every communication.Almost non existent in hotels in the NYC area. Rooms are extremely clean. The size of the room is consistent with all hotels in the Brooklyn/Manhattan area. Even though the breakfast room is small - breakfast is INCLUDED which is rare. Room was nice and more than enough space for family of five. Nothing close by to eat so you have to drive a fair ways to get to a decent restaurant. Clean room, nice beds, although the floors were a bit uneven. Staff was very helpful finding street parking and avoiding the $15 valet parking. We stayed for our weekly tour of NY city, And we took a gamble when we reserved this place, which is in Brooklyn, and we didn't see much reviews. But Boy did that Pay off Big time. We got very clean spacious rooms, (2 inter-connecting rooms), Free Continental Breakfast, Room service, and Not to mention the Friendly Staff, who were so accommodation, with Taxi, Dining Information. and all this for a fraction of the price we would pay in the City. and we were lucky to get the top floor which has spectacular Vies of the Manhattan Brooklyn Bridges, and skyline. Eh. Stayed here for a girls weekend. This hotel is occupied by orthodox Jews for the majority part short long term living accommodations. The room was pretty nice but the entire stay we felt totally uncomfortable the whole trip from the elevator ride up to the corridor until we reached the room. Trash and paper lined the corridor and one of the children even made a small racist remark. Children were running up and down the hallway at 7&8 am. Extremely loud and noisy. Overall I think Managment should advise tenants to be courteous and accepting of other guest seeing that we are paying customers as well. read more

I was suppose to stay at this hotel, but got switched due to them taking in some families that were hurt due to some sort of natural incident. Anyways, no big deal. The hotel and specifically manager were awesome! They set us up in a hotel that they arranged that was still in the same neighborhood. The pointe plaza paid the difference in hotels. Also the manager at the hotel ( I forget his name) came and picked me and my friends up and even parked my car at their offside spot because the new hotel didn't have a parking lot--- FOR FREE! Then, after all of the running around they did for me and my friends, the manager picked me back up on Sunday and and took me to my car. He was fantastic. My boyfriend and I walked into our room to find 2 twin beds. After having a long stressful trip all we wanted was to lay together for the night. They lied to us and told us there were no other rooms with bigger beds available. Turns out they did have rooms but you had to pay $60 to upgrade to one. I feel safe in saying I have never had a better service at a hotel anywhere, and I travel quite a bit for work. I stayed here for personal reasons (my wedding) and they made it magically easy. Let's start with the reservations. Iman worked with us to make sure our friends would be adequately housed, and he really went above and beyond. When I casually commented on some challenges I was facing that were not his problem, he said: "You shouldn't have to deal with that while you're getting married," and sorted it for us. No problem. He happily extended the block rate we had negotiated to extra friends making last-minute arrangements. Points for flexibility. When it comes to the service we received, housekeeping were troupers, and the front desk were literally unparalleled - whatever we needed they provided, and then some. Housekeeping managed to sort several friends' rooms (and ours) despite strange hours and stranger messes. Also VERY clean, when we arrived and throughout - no bedbug signs and very thorough cleaning. The rooms have kitchens, and when we called down to ask about pans an entire kitchen set showed up at our door in less than three minutes. They had very thorough and reliable suggestions for things to do and restaurants to visit in the neighborhood. My now-husband called down to ask them a question and when they said they didn't know, he started to look on the Internet - but they beat him to the punch and called back about six minutes later with excellent suggestions, before he was done. They were so helpful in so many ways I can't sing their praises enough. As to the rooms: Good space, good rooms solidly built (except for the carpets, which were laid by cheapsters). Common areas rather pretty. Continental breakfast - not bad. Separate meat/dairy sinks, if you care. The shower was finicky, but the water, blessedly, stayed pressurized and hot - NOT common in NYC. And best of all, the beds were great. We slept exceedingly well. The only drawbacks: No fitness center, no restaurant, and not as close as I'd like to the subway. Enh - for this kind of service I'd live with a lot more. read more

The suite is decent, I expected more based on the price but it was nice. The kitchen area included a microwave, small fridge and 2 burners you could use to cook on. The bathroom was ok. I had trouble trying to adjust the temp of the water because of the way the shower/bath handle was set up. I also had to call for more towels & washcloths because we were only given one set. No big deal just slightly inconvenient. There was a flat screen on the wall in the bedroom but not many channels to choose from. I could barely get a wifi connection and when I did, it didn't last long. The bed was the best part of the hotel-very soft and comfy. I had a room on the second floor and the street noose made it difficult for me to sleep. The breakfast area was pretty small, get there fast to get something other than bagels and dry cereal. I would have given this hotel a 3 star rating but then there was a data breach at the hotel and my credit card information was stolen and charges had been made. The front desk clerk told me how sorry she was but a manager never came out to apologize especially considering this was my first time staying at this hotel.
