I'm verrry picky about my bbq so I wanted to start off saying this review isn't about bbq, I didn't order it. Anywho, I did order the turkey breast chef salad and it was EXCELLENT! I didn't get any wilted lettuce or lettuce stalk. The turkey breast was very moist and the dressing is excellent. So I ordered the 3 meat plate and 2 sides! Brisket and double ribs! Both had a perfect amount of smoke flavor and the meat was very tender. For side I had the Mac and cheese and the cornbread casserole, the Mac was creamy and cheesy, now the casserole was amazing I will be definitely get a couple orders of that next time!! 5 stars all around! We tried Pok-e-jo's a few days ago because we were craving BBQ and it was the nearest spot, we were not disappointed! It's a fast casual style BBQ place with a delicious selection of entrees and sides all for a decent price! My boyfriend had brisket and I had pulled pork, he had coleslaw and fries and I had mac and cheese and potato salad, and the plates came with a piece of Texas toast. Everything was absolutely delicious, we devoured it all! And the service was very good, they brought out fresh fries to the table for my boyfriend, and they swung around to ask us how everything was which was nice too! the location is convenient for us so I'm sure we'll be back! read more

I ordered takeout online and it was pretty easy to do. I ordered the plate with brisket and for sides I ordered Mac and cheese, potato salad, and potato casserole. It took less than 5 minutes to place the order and I opted for curbside pickup. Once the order was placed I received an eta of 15 minutes of when the order would be ready. Once I arrived there, it was really quick and easy. The server who brought out my food was super nice and friendly. Food was hot and delicious and I plan on coming back here very soon! read more

Our work team went here for lunch yesterday. Overall I would describe this place as "meh". Not in any way objectionable nor memorable. Service was fast. I got a sliced beef sandwich combo with broccoli salad and a beverage. The beef was tender and served in a McDonalds hamburger like bun. The BBQ sauce tasted a little like ketchup. The broccoli salad was fairly bland but the soda was huge! A coworker of mine got a baked potato that looked pretty good. If I go back maybe I'll try that. read more

Unfortunately, the quality of the food here has gone downhill. I hate to say it but this establishment has been a favorite of ours for years. Recently, the chopped bit was not tender and had chunks of meat versus the usual chopped/shredded. Who has ever heard of chopped beef that is not tender? Came here for lunch with my co-worker who was looking for some BBQ. I ordered the 2 meat plate with beef sausage and pork ribs, broccoli salad as a side with a drink (homemade lemonade). The pork ribs were YUMMY. I would definitely get those again. The beef sausage was ok. I think it was the consistency that bothered me. They were not as dense as I am more used to. This just comes down to preference. Their homemade lemonade was good. Not too sweet. Thumbs up here. Service was good. They were all really nice to us as we have never been there before. Central Texas easy. Great Sausage, sides, Brisket - always a Texas experience. I like moist brisket with little fat - they do it up right. Lunch is well served and easy in and out. Ribs were so dry they were like wood. Inedible threw them out. Meat in general was over cooked.

This place has been here since I was in high school, and before that I think almost 30 years not positive on that but it's close. Brisket, sausage, pork ribs were all fabulous, their sauce goes perfect with all. Many years of some good BBQ here. read more

Great BBQ and sides but this review is about the incredible customer service from the woman who cuts the meat, to the guy piling on the sides, to the waitress that checks if you need anything additional, to the busboy that offered to refill our drinks, to a manager (Zach - that I talked to at the end) who noticed that a gentleman hadn't touched one of his sides so he got him something else. Why have you hired a handful of people who are incapable of customer service?! The night crew on Wed needs to be replaced. If you're wondering why your sells are low on the night shift it's because the night crew is lacking integrity. And online it says that they close at 10pm but it is 9:22pm and the people on the inside have the doors locked because they don't want to serve black people. read more

I'm concerning myself only with turkey these days, and looking for the turkey in least need of sauce. It's also important to me that there be some sides that I can eat without blowing my calorie budget for the day. Pok-E-Jo's did ok! I know it's not heritage BBQ or anything -- I almost took a job here 10 years ago and the manager said then that the cooking was the easiest part, since the spices were all packaged up -- but, folks, the bird was moist. Next time I'll get the sauce on the side, because I didn't need much after all. PEJ's has one of the weaker sauces anyway, and BBQ sauce is surprisingly high-calorie. The pinto beans had some brisket in them, but I really don't think there are vegetarians reading this who needed to be warned away. The cole-slaw was standard and just fine. I was a little surprised at all the $2 beer signs and the happy hour notice, but I suppose so many people from the Kramer/Metric business district come here that it makes sense. Beware: the booths are narrow. I'm only a 36 waist (soon to be 34, thank you very much), and while I had a little clearance, it was awkward getting in and out. Kind of strange for a BBQ joint, where you'd expect things to be built on a more generous scale. Verdict: good turkey! read more

I LOVE PokeJoes, and where the guys @ the Parmer location were unbelievably friendly and outgoing.. I prefer the food prep and taste of the Round Rock location! The chopped beef was just that.. chopped beef. No sauce? What the heck? The twice baked potatoes were a little wetter, and the cherry cobbler was way too wet. I wasn't expecting much after we ended up here when another restaurant fell through, but I was pleasantly surprised. The BBQ was all solid (the sausage was actually very good) and the sauces were tasty. The side dishes were especially good - lots of casseroles and the like to pick from, which I greatly enjoy but aren't common at restaurants. The peach cobbler desert wasn't quite as good as the other stuff, but it was still tasty. The service was very good and they were eager to be helpful. I'll very likely add this to my BBQ go-to list. Mini-update: The family meals here where you get some meat and a few large sides are a pretty good deal as well. After posting this I was given a thank-you from one of the restaurant staff, which as appreciated. I like it when restaurants actively pay attention to what people say about them. read more

I do not know why there are people complaining about Pok-E-Jo's at this location! They offer MOIST brisket, yummy sausage and yea bad poultries but I'm here for real meat! I usually go with 4-6 people. We order a family package with 3 sides that would make everyone full. Well worth the money we spend here. Not once have we complained about anything but our full stomach. Highly recommend it if you can't drive down to the Salt Lick in Dripping Spring. read more

Stopped by Pok-e-Jo's as its not a far drive from my friend's place, and ordered a 2-meat plate, which includes two sides and a Texas toast. The person taking my order was really nice, I think he could tell it was my first time here. I chose brisket and chicken for my meats, and had pinto beans and Texas fries for my sides. The food was great - the meats were moist and the BBQ sauce delicious. The only complaint I had was that my fries tasted a little bit soggy even though they had just brought it out to us (hence taking away a star, but really you should read this as a 4.5 star review). After we finished eating, as this was my first time here, and we saw trash cans near by, we decided to go throw our trash away and was met by one of the employees saying "STOP!!," which startled me a bit, only to find out that he would take care of our finished plates. Meh best fits our meal at this location. My sister and I were staying at the Domain and were in need of a quick dinner. I had read the reviews here and so we popped over. The menu looked promising and I liked how many side dish options were available. I went for the two meat plate and had brisket and sausage, with the green bean casserole and potato salad. My sister had the chicken and pulled pork with mac and cheese and a side salad. Pricing wasn't bad considering the very ample portions we received. Food though, wasn't wonderful. The brisket was tender and good. My sausage was sad, with a grey steamed casing and extremely red meat inside. The best thing on my plate was the potato salad, which was delicious. My sister found her chicken and pork to be ok, but the mac and cheese was very processed. Unless we ordered poorly or came on an off day, I would recommend looking elsewhere for bbq. The tipping point for us was the tv being broadcast throughout the restaurant, playing a 20/20 style show about gruesome details of woman who killed her third husband. While families with small children sat around us, eating away to the sounds of their interviews. Maybe stick to music vs tv time. read more

I usually end up at the Pok-E-Jos on 183 and Great Hills or the one in Hancock Center, but have been known to venture up to Parmer on occasion, too. My favorite meat here, by far, is the chicken - it's just so moist and tender and flavorful! I also enjoy the chopped beef sandwich, and my eldest daughter loves the pork ribs - but I tend to get into a rut, and when I'm wanting bbq chicken (dark meat, please!), Pok-E-Jos is the place for me! I enjoy their selection of warm sides (not being at all fond of potato salad or cole slaw), and the sweet flavor of the sauce complements the chicken perfectly. Mom likes those traditional sides, and my youngest daughter likes the fruit salad. Something for everybody! I prefer the sweet tea at Rudy's, frankly, but that's because I like my tea REALLY sweet. I've found their cobbler to be inconsistent - sometimes it's just too bready, often it's just too dry - but it's almost always tasty. read more

Pok-E-Jo's is not the best BBQ in town, BUT...they excel where others don't, giving me a reason to come back again and again. They have the best BBQ chicken in town (along with a notable pork loin), and the greatest variety of side dishes (to name a few -- cheesy mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, mac and cheese, a half dozen different salads and usually more than a couple of desserts, along with old standbys like beans and slaw). My first experience with Pok-E-Jo's was the original building on Burnet Rd. which has been replaced by Mopac and the toll road. It was the mid-80's and there wasn't much else out there. I had come to the "big city" for a business meeting and we ate lunch there. I remember thinking "this is some damn fine BBQ". Fast forward a few years and I've moved to the big city and I'm going on a lunch date with a wonderful guy who is now my husband of 23 years. I got the BBQ chicken sandwich. Tender smoked chicken, chopped with mayo and dill pickles added and served on Texas Toast. Not sure if it was BBQ heaven or I was just smitten at the time, but I remember it being the best damn chicken sandwich I'd ever had. I ordered it again not too long ago to see if it was as good as I remember - it was (so is the husband)! So, here it is some 25 years later, and this is still my favorite go to BBQ joint north of the river. Their meat is tender with just the right amount of smoke, the sauce is tangy and the sides are freaking awesome! The broccoli salad is a nice change from coleslaw, the potato salad is made just the way I like it with red potatoes and enough mustard to give it a little kick. The mac and cheese is sinfully rich and satisfying. If you're watching your carbs (and passing up on the mac and cheese), they have an awesome chef salad with your choice of meat. I got it with the pork loin and it was an enormous amount of food to try and devour in one sitting. I frequent the location in the Arboretum - haven't been to the Parmer location in awhile so I can't comment on that. read more

Great BBQ location! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful! This location has a great Texas ambiance and is easily accessible. The parking can be a little tight, but usually available. I highly recommend the BBQ Brisket and the Sausage is outstanding! One of my very favorite sides is the Mac & Cheese. It is tremendous! The food prices are very good and portions very generous.
