This was my first time in the area since I moved from Irvine that I had a day off to explore and enjoy the day to myself and I was well met by the staff. I expressed that I wanted to get the large bowl with 5 scoops but I saw that they had a different selection of proteins. From the corner of my eye I saw crawfish and octopus so I was excited to try the selection and with the help of my server, he prepped and made my bowl to order with no substitutions and all the inclusions! I inquired if I could get some of the Loca sauce on the side and instead opted to put it on my protein along with the other sauces after trying it out and it was a very good choice! It was a fine balance of mild spice and flavor. Just watching the preparation was enough to make my mouth water! I took my first bite which included the crawfish and spicy octopus and thanked my server because it was a great recommendation and I live next to the Pokitomik but I agree Poke Bistro is well worth the minute drive! Since moving, I've been craving some Boiling Crab and the sauce really hit the craving. I didn't finish my bowl in store, but that's only so I could devour my delicious order in the privacy and comfort of home. You can tell the place is under new ownership as soon as you walk in the door. Feels more welcoming as the staff is actually smiling. Now I notice several people enjoying their meals at the tables, as a reflection of the positive atmosphere. Now to the food.......All the ingredients are much fresher with healthier portions. I catch my own tuna and yellowtail so I can recognize fresh fish:) The octopus was also amazing. They have all the typical options available at other Poke restaurants with similar pricing but they don't upcharge you for the tuna or yellowtail, like the competition. It was my first time at Poke Bistro! It is located in a small plaza where parking may be hectic during peak hours, but when I went the parking was not difficult at all. The employees were well protected with gloves and masks. I just recently started eating poke and it's still growing on me. My three choices were spicy salmon, tuna, and spicy tuna. The regular tuna was really good and flavorful! The sides I got were seaweed saad, avocado, spicy grab meat, edamame, ginger, cucumber, with seaweed on top, and ponzu sauce and sesame oil to top it off. I took away one star because my spicy tuna was a tad fishy. Other than that, I'd be willing to go back to this place and get another poke bowl, maybe all regular tuna cause I likes it a lot! All I can say is "Wow!" I used to come here once a week 3 to 4 years ago because the serving size was decent. Now, the serving size is so tiny! The prices are outrageous for the small servings. If you take a look at the bowls / containers that they use, you'll notice that they're shallow which means you really can't put too much food in them and it appears that you get a lot, but you really don't. The size of the additional toppings that the two servers put was so small. The size of the scooper that they used for the proteins looked like a melon baller. Smaller than the size of a ping pong ball. Then at the end, they over used the seaweed on top to cover up the fact that the serving sizes of everything you select was small! However, the price is definitely not worth it because they give the smallest scoop of fish ever. One of my scoops was literally like 4-5 pieces of fish!
