So excited that Poke Bros is now in North Wilmington! We have visited a few times since its grand opening and anticipate it will be a regular feature in our takeout rotation. They offer several pre-designed poke bowls (BF really likes the Hula, featuring shrimp!), but I like the freedom of designing my own. On my first visit, I designed a bowl with a brown-rice base with salmon and spicy tuna on top, which was delicious but dry, leaving me a bit underwhelmed and disappointed. On subsequent visits, I realized my mistake: leaving out the OG sauce (a soy sauce-like liquid that adds both flavor and moisture) --- I wish the staff would have asked if I wanted to add it the first time because it's a game-changer! My go-to bowl starts with a mix of sushi rice and brown rice (you can do a 50-50 split of base, options including white rice, brown rice, sushi rice, and mixed greens --- I def recommend at least partial sushi rice for flavor). I then add cucumber, edamame, avocado ($1 extra), masago, crabstick ($1 extra), green onion, with salmon as my main protein (sometimes a 50-50 salmon/tuna mix). I finish with a mix of Sriracha mayo, Coconut Ginger sauce (and, of course, OG sauce), and tempura crunchies. I love that I get to enjoy all the flavors of sushi with significantly less cost (and probably more food). They offer a tofu option for the vegetarians among us, and chicken for those who just don't do seafood. As several reviews have stated, the service is slow at times and they typically have one person follow you through the entirety of the encounter, which may not be the most efficient way to handle things. I also think it might help if the servers suggest toppings so that patrons say yes/no and don't miss any ingredients (I have definitely forgotten to ask for ingredients and been sad when I got home with my bowl!). Other FYIs: There is online ordering, though I haven't tried it and can't speak to its success yet. They also offer a loyalty program where they hole-punch a card and offer free bowls after a certain number of punches. The food was ready in less than 10 min and the pickup itself was very smooth. I built my own bowl with spicy salmon and marinated tuna along with various toppings and dressed with the sweet soy and ponzu sauces. The tuna was very flavorful and you could tell it was actually marinated. The salmon wasn't too spicy, and I wish there were more pieces because it was really good! My sister got the Johnny Utah bowl and added some extra toppings. She seemed to really like it and thought everything was well put together as the flavors and salmon really complimented each other well. I got a half brown rice half salad for those of us who are a little carb conscious. They also tell you which sauces have gluten in it as well. First off, the 3 stars are given as a rough average for the following factors: Staff Management Food Other I totally love poke bowls. Been to very good ones in Hawaii, SF, bay area and now this one. This is a very welcome addition to our Wilmington food scene. I was surprised when i saw this pop up in yelp today. Went here after reading all 6 reviews and owner's responses. Offering apologies in advance if this seems too critical of a new business. I do want this place to succeed so that I get good poke in Wilmington. The place seems pretty empty right now with hardly 8-10 tables of which at least 5 were occupied. There were 3 staff members with 1 only refilling the food containers the whole time. There were 7 customers and it took around 15-20 mins before I could order, and this was around 12:10pm. That is pretty slow if you compare the other businesses like Subway, Chipotle etc which have similar setup to order food. And the staff taking orders were not slow intentionally. It was just how they were set up. By the time I ordered around mid-lunch time, the line went all the way till the door. So I would not want to go here if I were super hungry and needed something right away or had a short work break during lunch hours till they fix this situation. A somewhat disturbing thing I saw was that the server refilling food containers was actually pushing ingredients fallen between containers back into the containers. It was icky. I was too shocked to say anything before that particular server went back inside. I was glad none of the ingredients of my bowl came from those containers. The owner should get the staff to practise better health standards. The food in itself is fresh and delicious. They serve in good quantities too. I tried the Duke and I was full before getting to even half of the bowl. I want to try their other signature bowls next. I believe the owner can improve by: 1. Adding staff. They might not have expected the volume of customers. They are trending on top of all businesses on yelp so addressing this now would make more sense. The existing staff was literally running around with no time to rest and even then the lines were moving slowly. 2. You could assign the servers some food stations so they are not running around and just have to slide the dish to their right like some other businesses do. 3. Provide the recipes on sheets around the food stations so that the staff doesnt have to look up to the display board to figure out the ingredients, and lose time in the process. This happened 5 times out of the 7 customers that were ahead of me today. Best would be if they memorized it, but its a new business so we can cut some slack there. 4. Better practices for handling food. Overall, i rate the food as 4+ stars, staff taking orders were also 4+ stars and the management and other factors were 2 stars each at best. Yikes what an unexpected experience today. I've been here 10+times over the past year, and few things really stood out today. 1. Rude and unprofessional staff 2. A lot of items now cost extra, when previously the only up-charge was Avocado. Those now include: crab, masago, and a few other items I can't recall. The staff expected I knew about these new charges when I asked for them, and got a bit angry when I didn't. I'm a bit surprised, and I don't think I'll be back. I'm updating my review - and not in a positive way. I mentioned previously that portion sizes were all over the place. Since then it seems the portion sizes have decreased significantly (at least at the Concord Pike location). You literally receive 1/2 as much food as before - the bowls looks embarrassingly empty on my last several visits. The other day my wife got barely 1/4 scoop of tempura. She asked if she could have extra - and even less was added. She again asked for some extra and was told "that was extra" - and didn't get anymore!! If I were her I would have left without the food personally. I find it very sad that my top food choices could be going down hill this fast. Time to look for something new I guess. read more

I noticed this store before they opened and finally got around to trying this poke place a few weeks after the grand opening. The store is actually a bit hard to notice because the sign isn't very showy and from the outside, it looks like half the size of an average store in this shopping center. Easier to look next to the Walgreens once you know that's where it is. The dining area of the store is a bit spartan and dark. However, they are great for takeout. I placed an online order and it was ready before I got there. As for the food, I love the build your own poke bowl. I was disappointed that my most recent order could not be completed as it has been every other time in the past. I would understand if that had always been the rule but it was never a problem in the past. Also when ordering pick up we have been told we can't enter in our phone number for future rewards such as a coupon towards our next meal. It always amazes me when you go into a restaurant and the staff doesn't acknowledge your arrival with a hello or good evening. Today I'm at the Poke Bros on 202 in wilmington and the woman behind the counter could care less that I just walked in. She had orders for door dash that clearly were a higher priority than someone right in front of her. So, I sat for more than 5 minutes while she sang to herself with her ear pods probably on 10. When she finally acknowledged me, she kept asking me to repeat everything that I was saying. Why do you have a lucite wall from floor to ceiling that blocks sound and then expect to be able to hear someone's order. And please take out the ear pods. That doesn't help the matter. I would have left the store after receiving the cold shoulder except that my kids really wanted poke bowls. That will be the last time that I visit the 202 location. North Wilmington needed a place like this. I've been here 3 times in the past 2 weeks and my cravings for this bowl of deliciousness keep me coming back. What one will find here is a custom, deconstructed sushi roll in a bowl for about $13. There are also vegan and gluten free options. You can layer all of the ingredients to showcase the different flavors, textures, sauces and, best of all, crunchy bits too! From my experience, the contents of the bowl amount to about 3 sushi rolls but you can add as much or as little to the bowl as you'd like. There are some ingredients (such as avocado, crab and seaweed salad) that will increase the price but, overall, this place gives both raw and cooked sushi fans alike a great bang for their buck. Love the food here I always leave happy and satisfied. The fish and vegetables are always very fresh and taste great. Sometimes I wish they were a little bit more generous with the avocado when it costs an extra dollar, but I understand that is how it works everywhere so no major complaint here. I've been to this location a few times since it's opened, as I find the food delicious and reasonably priced. The location is clean and the staff is friendly. However, the staff is not as efficient as it could be. While I understand that this location is new and staff are probably still being trained, the servers often seem confused and disorganized, and it takes longer than it should to get your food. It appears that each server takes the next customer in line from start to finish, and the servers are all trying to work at the same area at the same time, so they're shuffling around each other while getting toppings, proteins, and working the only register. I agree with another reviewer that it would be better if the staff formed an assembly line, where one person starts an order, another finishes it, and another works the register and answers the phone. Also, it's generally better customer service to prioritize customers who are present over those on the phone. In the middle of taking our order, the server stopped to answer the phone, and then spent several minutes taking the caller's order before returning to us. The other two servers were helping other people, so we were just left in limbo. She should have picked up the phone, asked them to hold, and completed my order first. She was friendly and apologized for the wait, but it was still frustrating. Update: We went again this evening, and while there was still some disorganization, one server, a guy wearing a backwards baseball cap, was especially helpful and attentive.
