Cuz, they literally weigh out their scoops on a scale when they assemble that bad boy lol. I included one picture but you can't really even see the proteins I selected, which were the kimchi tako (octopus for the haoles) + lomilomi salmon. My base was half/half sushi rice + lettuce. It was quite pricey but the portions are really generous - it could definitely last me 2 meals if I wanted to save it. Hiroshi's has always been a staple - it's conveniently close to home and the food has always been fresh. Fast forward to today where I was severely disappointed. 1. They have started weighing their rice and poke. No big deal on my end, but the rice to fish ratio was meh. 2. Instead of a scoop of toppings (I like my toppings) it was a minuscule tiny spoon of each...one bite's worth, no joke. Look at the photos lol. Each topping, like crab salad for example, the entire "scoop" was equal to one bite on my fork. For the price; this place is no longer worth it. Even the mac salad was a teeny-tiny scoop. My last time here was not even but a month or two ago, so something has changed in the short time frame. I really liked the poke bowl! It's a small place do you have to order for takeout but it's such a good experience! The server was really helpful, when they were almost out of shrimp ceviche (which was delicious) they gave me the remaining and allowed me to add some salmon so I still got enough protein. Although the food tastes amazing, if you're sensitive to raw fish then this may not be the best idea because it did hurt my stomach more than Just Poke for some reason, though it may just have been an off day when I went. read more

They used to have Tako Kimchi (octopus kimchi) and Shrimp Keviche but looks like it's now Scallop Kimchi and Garlic Albacore. Though I'm not sure if this is a permanent change, I have never seen the albacore option and don't see any reviews on it. I hope that they continue to rotate options because it adds an extra layer of complexity and surprise to keep visiting. They always have the three basic tunas - Spicy, Original, and Hawaiian and the Lomi Lomi Salmon, but I see other options sometimes swapped around so it's always exciting to wonder what they'll serve. Of course I tried one of the newer options and wanted to leave an update here. Went for the garlic albacore - It's seared albacore so there's some raw poke style albacore and other seared albacore blocks which was interesting. It's not something I'd consistently get but I like to see that they're adding more variety. Albacore is another version of tuna, yes, but tastes different than the other options. This one is also mixed with garlic sauce and I got a few garlic gloves too. My last visit wasn't the most fresh, but still tasty. I'll call it an outlier since I've never had a bad experience and hoping this doesn't lead to a pattern. Portions were smaller but it's still more than enough for a solid meal. I created my own poke bowl with two choices of fish: Spicy Tuna and Lomi Lomi Salmon. I chose sushi rice with a ton of toppings and two different sauces, Ponzu and a creamy Japanese one. Should have gotten the spicy mayo, whoops. The bowls were HUGE and a lot was packed into it. I didn't know where to start since there was so much going on (which I didn't mind LOL). I tried the spicy tuna and thought it was meh. The fish was kind of odd; almost rubbery. I knew it was minced, but it's not the usual minced spicy tuna I was used to... There wasn't much flavor to it. A bit bland. Definitely missing a flavor. Should have gotten that spicy mayo sauce. Smh. The Lomi Lomi Salmon was okay. Kind of citrusy from the tomatoes and lemon juice. It had a better texture and maybe flavor than the spicy tuna. But with everything happening, I didn't really taste the lomi lomi flavor of it. The winner was actually the Original Ahi. I got one for my boyfriend with the same exact things except for one protein: the Original Ahi. And maaan, I wish I chose that instead LOL. The texture and flavor the original was soooo much better compared to the two choices I got. I could actually identify the taste and what I was eating. Ugh. So good! Next time tho! Was in UDistrict and a friend recommended Hiroshi's Poke as a to-go place for food in the area, so we decided to swing by on a Saturday around 2pm to get a quick bite to eat! At the time of this review, there currently aren't any seating arrangements in the restaurant and all orders are to-go - you will probably need to find public seating somewhere in the area to enjoy your bowl of poke. But this might have changed since then! I got the Hawaiian Tuna and Lomi Lomi Salmon as my two poke options - the fish itself was good, marinated well and had decent texture! I tried to get as many toppings as I could without overwhelming the poke, and you do get a good amount of food given the price. You do get a lot of rice with the bowl, which is filling and nice, but there isn't enough poke to combo the rice as at the end I was only eating rice and a bit of toppings. There are a great variety of options to pick from poke flavors, to sauces, to toppings and sides. I would say that Hiroshi's does quantity right as you can see in the other reviews, this restaurant is in the right place - perfect for hungry students! In the end, spent about $12 for the meal - which I thought was a great price given the quantity, but quality-wise there are better options.
