Split a burrito with my roommate for a late night dinner. California isn't my go to but it's still ok. The interior is super cute, bigger than I expected. They have games and lots of seating. I came here to get dinner with a friend and it honestly was everything that I was expecting. I got the Sumo Crunch and I loved loved loved the combination of flavor. I did think that the place itself had a pretty pricey menu when looking at portion size. Service was pretty fast and LOTS of seating available. I like how it's higher up above places in its location I thought it was pretty cool. read more

This place was one of my favorites during freshman year! I went a few days ago when I was overwhelmed with work and needed to pick up something quick. It was a very speedy process, and the food is good quality! The fish and vegetables all taste very fresh, and the flavoring was present but not overwhelming. First time in and the food was delicious! I wasn't too sure what to expect off the name but it's literally just a sushi burrito. I got the evergreen which was so delicious and everything looked and tasted really fresh. The service was super fast, didn't take long for my food at all. And the staff was super nice in answering questions that I had. The inside was suuuuper spacious too. There's lots of seating and the floor plan is very big. I would definitely recommend to someone and come back myself if i'm in the area. read more

Everything here is so fresh and great. The sushi burritos are good but I think the poke bowls are the star. They load them up and it's just so fresh and the employees are so nice! It is right upstairs from a build your own boba place, so I like to hit both and take out on a picnic! read more

Good quick service since we were the only ones ordering. The place is very clean and a good number of tables inside. The Sumo Crunch sushi burrito was large...although for over $17 with tax I wish it were larger or around $13... but it's Seattle and everything is costly . The taste was great- asked for the spicy mayo which had a little kick but not too much. Was the perfect late lunch special treat. Too expensive to get often but being at UW made it easy to walk to. They also have paper compostable wrapping and box for the food which I love. We would definitely come here again! read more

I got to try this spot as part of the u district $4 food walk so this review may be a little biased, but it was delicious! I got the dancing salmon sushi burrito which was half the size of the normal one, and definitely still a very generous portion. The layer of rice was nice and thin, and the salmon was super fresh and well seasoned. There was a good amount of veggies (cucumber and lettuce) inside as well which was a nice texture contrast and flavor balance. I'd come back to this spot again for their other menu items, but am super glad I got to try it! read more

I always loved the sushi-ritto concept. Tried the Salmon Sushi-ritto ($13ish). Order at the counter (can choose a sushi-ritto, bowl, or salad format) that they prepare in front of you assembly line style. It was well made and fresh! Wish I could've had a dipping sauce or wasabi on the side. Cutest packaging ever. There was one person working when we went. Ample amount of seating. I love sushi and a burritos. Therefore, what's there not to love about a sushi burrito?? We came at lunch time on a Sunday after visiting the uw quad cherry blossoms. There was no line at all and the place was mostly empty. I got a dancing salmon burrito. It was $13, decent size! My 10 year old took a few bites and wanted one that isn't spicy. So I asked if we could do one with eel sauce instead of spicy mayo and the server had no problem with that. It's like a poke bar, you can build your own bowl or burrito. Also had pork gyoza for the 7 year old. Everything tasted great, service was good, packaging is plastic free! The interior is pleasant with lots of seating. Apparently this is the flagship location even though it's very new. That likely means a lot of resources are being put here and it's aimed to attract lots of the nearby college students like myself and hopefully hook us. With that in mind, the interior is stunning as it's not something you expect. I never went into the Jimmy Johns that used to be here so I'm not sure what the interior was beforehand, but I'm absolutely sure it was revamped like crazy. The ordering system seems very easy, but at one point they were recommending ordering online. A sign was posted out front on the ave where everyone walked by to order online and just pick-up. Because of that memory, I simply ordered online and everything was correct, no issues. They are definitely short staffed so if you choose to order inside, expect a little wait. Only two employees during my visit. Ordered the chicken karaage with two sushi burritos (dancing salmon with some customization and the dragon ball with some customization). Chicken karaage - pretty solid actually. I was surprised, chicken was very juicy and tender. Personally I prefer a more crunchy exterior but it was lightly breaded and not overwhelming. Overall positive. Dancing salmon - fresh salmon, yummy, what you kind of expect in a sushi burrito. Dragon ball - broiled eel and tempura shrimp, you can feel the warmth from the broiled eel so that was a nice addition, though it's pushed to one side which means the burrito isn't as evenly distributed and the warmth and coldness is also inconsistent through each bite. I will say, my burrito wasn't quite wrapped fully (pictured), not sure if it's intentional or not but that led to a lot of the juices, spicy mayo, and eel sauce leaking out on the bottom. Also meant the burrito fell apart easy. Anyways, as a whole, I think the sushi burritos are quite tasty. My main complaint is sizing as they're pretty small for the high cost. Obviously it's sushi so it's pricier, but I'd lean towards something like Hiroshi's for value on fish and Chipotle for value on burritos, but if I'm ever craving both at the same time? Well that's where this place comes in. Probably not a consistent go-to option, but a good fallback at the right time. read more

I was skeptical when I attempted to consume my first sushi burrito. I am part Japanese and my Japanese grandmother raised me and I like my Japanese food traditional. While attending the $4 food walk we decided to try IJ's sushi burrito. I was surprised how much I liked the salmon crunch sushi burrito. It was pleasantly delicious and a decent portion. The fish was very fresh and I liked the ratio of filling to rice. They basically cut the full size portion in half and sold it for $4 to accommodate the special event. It could've had more fish in it but other than that I have zero complaints and I am a strict sushi critic. My frequent got a poke bowl and she loved it! Good job IJ's I wouldn't mind coming back to try more of the menu. read more

The burrito was okay (decent), but the service was very poor. We walked in, very excited to try this sushi burrito place. However, as soon as we walked in, we felt immediate hostility from the folks working behind the counter. True, we had to take some time perusing the menu since this was our first time. But given that this is a new place, you should except most of your customers to be new, no? Anyway, we were trying to understand how ordering worked, the whole time receiving a death glare from the lady behind the counter. Then (god forbid) we had the audacity to ask a question! You can imagine how she responded to that! Also, her business practice was a little shady, since we just asked "is that crab salad?" And she immediately put it on and charged us $3. I was sufficiently irked at this point that I don't think I will be coming back here again. read more

True to its name, this spot serves up tasty sushi burritos. I had the Dragon Ball--shrimp tempura, bbq eel, cucumber, and avocado--and ordered it delivery. It arrived with the tempura shrimp still crispy and with great, quality slices of avocado. The flavors were good and what I expected. The menu isn't cheap, and this particular item is especially pricey, but at least you get what you pay for! read more

though I sent in a mobile order and arrived at the pickup time, my order didn't get to their machine so it was just made when I got there. however the inside of this restaurant is very pleasant so I didn't mind the wait. additionally my food was really good. This place is awesome! For about $15 you can get a massive sushi burrito! I do so many toppings they can barely roll the burrito. Everything is fresh, love the topping choices. Don't skip out on the pickled ginger - it adds so much flavor to each bite. If you're not super hungry, I bet 2 people to split a burrito. This is the 2nd Sushi Burrito location we have been to, they're pretty consistent. I did like this location more since it's conveniently near the link. I will definitely be back. read more

It's finally open! After seeing the "coming soon" sign for months and wondering if it would make it through the pandemic, IJ Sushi Burrito is finally here on The Ave. What to expect: Much like a poke bowl shop, Chipotle, or even their neighbor, Sizzle and Crunch, IJ Sushi Burrito is a build-your-own restaurant where you choose your format (burrito, rice bowl, or salad), your protein (salmon, tuna, crab salad, a few vegetarian options), and then an assortment of toppings. The staff puts it all together and you pay at the register at the front. This makes lunch quick and you can adjust your order depending on how you're feeling that day. They also have a couple of other options on the menu, including two preset poke burrito options, takoyaki, and chicken karaage. We ordered the poke burritos, which are really just giant sushi rolls. They were fresh and delicious, albeit pretty messy to eat. They package them in a nice cardboard box when you order. We also ordered the chicken karaage, which looked a lot more like popcorn chicken (very small pieces, not crispy) but was still yummy, tasted similar to karaage and garlic powder, and came with Thai sweet chili sauce for dipping. My poke burrito (with avocado) and karaage came out to over $26 -- which is pretty pricy for what you get. The restaurant is actually a LOT bigger than it looks, with a variety of seating that would be excellent for singles, couples, and groups. I like the natural wood and contemporary/Japanese interior design style, especially the more moody seating area in the back. It's a great space to have a good conversation or peaceful lunch alone. Overall, it definitely wasn't the fanciest, cheapest, or more creative concept, but all that really matters is that it's a comfortable environment and tastes good, so I'll probably be back. read more

Never got to try the food. The lady working there with the horrible attitude - just atrocious personality. She was too bothered either to answer questions about the menu, or to pretend to care about my business. In fact her vibe/energy is dark and one which steered us away from what looked like it could be a good lunch. The way they worded this really rubbed me the wrong way. First, I've never been give a time limit at a restaurant that was not all-you-can-eat. Second, the amount of time I spend in your restaurant heavily depends on the speed of your service (spoiler alert: it was not fast). They then sat us at the most uncomfortable table I have ever had the displeasure of dining at. The table was low and the seats were so deep that I could not rest my back on them while eating. Definitely brought the mood down further. Food was a hit or a miss, no in between. Hit: Garlic short ribs (my partner said these were tender and a good portion for happy hour), Poke sushi roll (good fish quality and taste) Misses: First Ave Roll (sauce was just walloped on top, weak flavors), veggie and shrimp tempura (heavy and soggy batter), pink lychee cooler (artificially sweet with no strong lychee flavor), green tea tiramisu (photo speaks for itself). For all the rave reviews, I was pretty let down. Thankfully, we went during happy hour so we didn't pay full price. I would not visit here again.

I got a hard alcohol I wasn't used to getting. It was fun and it was quite good! It was Shochu which is a distilled beverage and involves sweet potato. If memory serves I got the one with sweet potato and pear. Very different but very good. It had a nice dryness to it. To wrap it all up we got some deep fried mochi ice cream. It held up nicely to being a great finish to a very high quality meal. We are definitely coming back!

We made a reservation for dinner but they only had the tables available, not the bar. The inside is really nicely laid out and our table was in a side where we could see the sushi chefs preparing the pieces. We even saw Chef Kashiba himself while we were there! We of course got the omakase, which was a total of 22 pieces including non-sushi bites. The appetizer trio consisted of sashimi, bamboo, and a radish puree - while we loved the sashimi, the other two were just ok. The next course was a toro handroll which we thought was a bit odd since that usually comes later towards the end in omakase. The fish was fresh, but the seaweed was a little thick and chewy. Onto the next plate - 5 pieces of nigiri with my favorites being the otoro and sea bream. Special shoutout to the albacore as well (I've never had albacore so soft!). After this one, the 6 piece nigiri were a hit or miss - while I LOVED the kanpachi (probably my favorite piece of the night), some of the seared ones didn't feel that fresh or flavorful. We then got the chawanmushi which I actually really loved, and I'm thankful they were able to substitute the shrimp with rockfish for my allergy. Finally, for the dessert course we got some miso soup, a fried anago nigiri, and for me oranges (instead of the egg due to my shrimp allergy). I did think it was odd to get miso soup last, but the anago was really good and the oranges were nice and fresh. Overall, there were definitely some standout pieces (kanpachi, toro, and chawanmushi) but the overall omakase experience felt a little disjointed. I'm glad to have finally tried this spot though - the location is beautiful and definitely still worth a visit for the legacy!
