I recently visited Poke Fresh, located near a residential area. We arrived around 7 p.m. on a Saturday. The place was surprisingly empty. Since we had to detour here, we decided to try it. You order and pay at the counter; there are a few tables if you want to eat there. My niece ordered the Spicy Hawaiian. It was a good portion, and she said it tasted good. I ordered a regular bowl with two proteins and house sauce. The salmon, tuna, and toppings seemed fresh, but unfortunately, the house sauce was bland and didn't add much flavor to the dish. I also asked for brown rice, but it tasted hard and crunchy--it seemed undercooked. We also ordered bubble tea, which was good and complemented the meal nicely. The lady at the counter was friendly, and the place itself was clean, though on the smaller side. I don't know if they still do this because it's a been a while since I've been here but they pack your bowl with regular mushy rice. OMG it's called seasoned rice vinegar. Add it to your rice to make it actual sushi style rice. It costs pennies. Of all the ways to cost cut, this isn't it. In fact, maybe add less rice. A lot less rice. And use those cost savings for rice vinegar. Because it's the point where you can't taste any of the other ingredients. Take this advice and your business will improve. Seriously. read more

Coming from Los Angeles, I've had my fair share of poke. This is how I would rate the poke at Poke Fresh: I had a large salmon and ahi tuna bowl. The base was half white rice and mixed greens. Other toppings I asked for were the marinated sea weed, diced cucumber, avocado, ginger, and pickled radish. The sauce I asked for was spicy mayo which I found to lack a strong, distinct flavor. Overall, it was okay, good, but not life changing. I wish they had marinated the cucumber and not added iceberg lettuce to the mixed greens. I still give it four stars for their generous amounts of protein and toppings. But was it worth $22? That's a question you can only answer for yourself. It's a decent place for poke bowl. All the portions are so tiny though and quite expensive for the amount of protein. There's not a sign where it says unlimited toppings or just being able to get a few more scoops of things you want so I wasn't sure and didn't want to be charged more but I've been to other places that did it that way and made the experience much better for me. For a regular it's $15 and i had another person with me so our total was $30! I finished my meal and wasn't super satisfied but all the sauces and food tasted fresh. Great new place in Elkridge! Poke bowls are so popular right now it was about time Howard County got one of its own. It's set up Chipotle style and you can make your own bowl or get a bowl they have dreamed up. You can chose two proteins from their selection for a regular bowl and the selections all looked delicious. I had eel and spicy tuna. You can also select your toppings, sauce and rice/greens. Super easy to order online and then just pop inside to pickup and pay when you arrive. This is located at the end of a long line of shops of a highway. I thought my Poké bowl was good-though was expecting the carrots to be pickled (I checked back and it didn't say pickled on the menu). The regular bowl was more than enough for a healthy lunch. This is my first poke fresh experience in Maryland. It's set up Chipotle style. I eat poke bowls often in my travels. They use a spoon rather than a 1/4c scoop for their portions. I'm not a fan of that. I got the large bowl. They are not only a little skimpy on their portions (mind you, heavy handed with the rice), but same with their sauces. The crab salad is usually crab salad. Here it's just the imitation crab meat sans the dressing. They need to cut the tip of the squeeze bottles they use because hardly any comes out when they squeeze and they barely put any on. The bowl is dry. I like to get cilantro as an option and on occasion, diced cream cheese. They offer neither here. There is not hit tea or thai tea option just cold drinks from the fridge display. I am told that Wegman's offers their own bowl. I will have to try that and see if it's comparable to what I'm used to in New York. This place is decent for a poke novice but if you are used to this dish, you'll have plenty of critiques. The restaurant has just me in it so if they care to have patrons they will need to step their game up and expand their menu some... or be open to Uber eats/grubhub once their up their standard. read more

I love Hilo over at R. House, but Poke Fresh was a nice and comparable alternative, for sure. The ingredients behind the counter all looked super fresh and were contained/ covered in a way that looked about a million times more sanitary than y'alls favorite taco and burrito bowl chain. I built my own poke bowl for $11 with spicy tuna, salmon, brown rice, seaweed salad, mixed greens, edamame, cucumbers, onions, sesame seeds, avocado, and house ginger sauce. My only complaint was i could have done without the iceberg lettuce in my mixed greens. Everything else was just perfect, as were the lovely young ladies that helped with my carry out orders. I thought the regular sized bowl was a generous portion and will definitely return for healthy lunch and then stroll around to the back of the building for the yummy cupcakes from Kupcakes & Co. behind this location. I am struggling with the age old problem of not wanting people to know about this place but still wanting it to stay in business. The food here is really great. Everything is exceptionally fresh and flavorful. They deliver on taste. I'm a vegetarian so I am exceptionally happy with the fried tofu and the range of fresh veggies. Plus, I appreciate that the staff takes my (many) inquiries about the vegetarian-ness of things so seriously. Sushi rice is my go to base. And you cannot beat the spicy mayo. Do not pass up the poke sauce or edamame either. And they have clearly cracked the code on avocados- so creamy and ripe. I have seen some other reviewers complain about the price. I think it is very fair for the quality of the food you are getting. Plus, you will be full after eating a bowl. In other news, the staff is very nice. The place is SUPER clean. Everything is fresh and tasty. The staff is helpful in giving suggestions. Both times I've gone, it's been pretty quiet in there and I don't know if that's due to the location or what. Also, on my second time going there, I was coming from another location than normal, so I put it into my phone's Google Maps until I got closer to the area. I noticed Maps kept trying to take me some crazy route that made no sense. Poke Fresh does a good enough job of giving you the fast-casual poke bowl experience. However, they could stand to give more in the proteins department, as the amount is rather small for the price. $10+ for a regular bowl is fair for poke, but when you skimp on the actual chunks of protein and compensate for the toppings, it's tad bit stingy. The staff is courteous and friendly, some might need to be a bit more trained up, bit they just opened up so that's not really an issue. There's a combination of sauces and toppings you get, most are free. Avocado is $2 I believe (no surprise there). I appreciate that they have the roasted wasabi peas available, giving the bowl a little bit of crunch to it. The few times I've gone so far I've gotten half salmon/half spicy crab salad, which works pretty well. I'm hesitant on getting the tuna as it looks a bit....off. It's lacking in color as another review has mentioned and doesn't look fresh. The place could use a tad bit of decor as well, but it does have more of a grab and go feel to it so that's fine. Overall, not a bad spot to go to for Poke, especially if you live around the Howard County area and don't feel like commuting to Rockville/DC/Baltimore for a bowl. read more

Decided to give this place a shot since I was craving some poke and Yelp guided me here. First off, this place isn't located in the most convenient shopping area. It's right off an exit on route 100, with heavy traffic. The shopping center is nice, clean, plently of parking! I got the Marine Bowel, because I wanted to try a little of everything, and this thing was stuffed! Salmon and tuna were what you would expect nothing super special, but they heated up the eel in a tiny toaster oven so that it was hot. After receiving by bowel I was told to let them know if I wanted anymore sauce if it wasn't enough. We dined in and seating was clean, and were the only people there except the employees. But they did have one carryout customer while we were there. I asked one of the employees how long they'd been open and he said for several weeks and that business is slowly picking up. Was searching for a lunch spot when I was really excited to see a new poke place in the Columbia area. Was honestly a little disappointed by the quality of everything. Not as good as trendier poke places I've had in the Northern Virginia area. Typically for poke the star of the dish is about the fish/protein, but they don't give you very much of it, and try to compensate that by giving you a large amounts of other toppings. For my bowl I was given a baffling amount of edamame and was really confused by their portioning decisions. The fish quality was okay, nothing spectacular. But anything that they label is spicy on the menu is not spicy whatsoever. There spicy poke sauce was very sweet for a spicy sauce, and the spicy tuna was just bland. Overall, Poke Fresh was okay and an unremarkable experience for me. I guess any place that doesn't even offer water cups always put me off a little. The decor of the place is also very bland and dull with no decor at all. So if you are just looking to get a pretty good poke bowl and don't care about the ambience of the place, then Poke Fresh is probably passable. read more

Had a good meal here. Things looked and tasted fresh. I've only eaten poke one time other than this, so i don't have much to compare against. However, I thought it was pretty good. The sides and toppings were generous, but i wish there was a little more protein. For example, I ordered one bowl with chicken and tofu, and i got lots of tofu, but maybe 3 small pieces of chicken. That didn't seem like a good ratio. A separate bowl though, I got spicy tuna and eel. The spicy tuna was spicy and had good flavor. The eel has a good flavor as well. I wish there was some description of what all the sauces were. I think that would make it simpler for folks that aren't savvy in poke bowls. Overall, not bad. Bland food and bad customer service. I walked in at around 7:30pm on Saturday night and no one greeted me. I started placing my order. Didn't want any rice so I got some protein and few veggies. The lady asked me if I wanted avocados and I said sure. When I was paying she charged me $3 for the tiny amount of browned avocados she put on my bowl (that I would have gladly passed on had she told me it was a $3 surcharge). I'm a huge poke fan and have been struggling since moving home without a good poke place near me. I used to eat it at least once a week in college and was so sad to move home and not have it.
