Been living in the area for over 10 years and we love sushi. We've always heard about this place but never thought to give it a try. We finally went over the weekend and were pleasantly surprised. We're sushi lovers and have tried the majority of the sushi spots in Howard County area but this place was awesome. Only other time I was this surprised was when we went to Takumi when they first opened. We came Sunday evening and from the outside it looked to be closed but went in and love the decor. It's a bit smaller than what I was expecting but we ordered the sushi deluxe, tempura, and Kani salad. The nigiri was definitely different from other places I've tried and seemed so much fresher. I typically don't like the tuna nigiri but this place I can tell was quality. The owner came out and was so nice and spoke with us and even gave us a sample of the seared salmon nigiri which was delicious. The Kani salad was decent. I know some reviewers mentioned about the prices being high for some rolls but we didn't get a chance to really try any of the rolls to see if they were worth it. I would definitely be coming back and rank this place one of the best sushi spots in Howard County. read more

Overall impression? Overpriced for the quality and quantity. I ordered delivery on a weekday night and would have expected more ample portions and fresher ingredients for the amount that I paid. I ordered two vegetable rolls totaling nearly $20 for only 10 pieces. The pieces were sloppily rolled and fell apart as I was eating them. The sweet potato roll was mediocre at best. The yasai gyoza just didn't taste that fresh and were overall unremarkable. I will be hard pressed to return given a number of better sushi spots in the area. read more

A hidden gem in Ellicott City! We went to Yama Sushi today and I'm honestly blown away. We tried the Spicy King Roll, Butterfly Roll, and Columbia Roll. All fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The owner even brought out a sample of seared salmon belly, and it was out of this world! The service was just as amazing as the food. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. I can't believe I've lived in HoCo this long and never tried Yama Sushi before. It's officially my new favorite sushi spot! Came in as a walk up on a Thursday evening with a friend and an infant. The restaurant only had one other table at te time. We were seated quickly and our drinks brought out. The atmosphere was quiet yet welcoming. We definitely took our time ordering which they were very patient with. My three sushi rolls came out quickly and were oh so delicious. If I compare with other sushi place in Columbia like sushi Sono, Sono is a little bit better than here IMO. This place is the closest location so I went. Went here on a whim with my best friend and the service is super friendly and the plate work is absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to come back for a date night! The food was absolutely delicious and we debated on if we wanted to take anything home after being so full haha . I also got the shrimp and chicken hibachi (not pictured ) I devoured it before I forgot to take a picture of it oops The only issue which was resolved apologetically so was the check we were accidentally charged 2 items we didn't get that was from another table we told our waitress and she quickly refunded us in cash and also gave us a gift card. Food and service alone are worth the drive up from MoCo. This cozy restaurant has a traditional style Japanese menu with ramen, sushi, hibachi-style entrees and more. They also have more unique specials (Omakase dinner, wagyu sushi, seared salmon belly). The seared salmon belly was perfectly torched with the right amount of caramelization and was placed atop a bite-sized soft bed of sushi rice. The combination had a melt-in-your mouth quality. The fried oyster appetizer (no picture) had plump juicy oysters in a light panko-style crispy coating. No hint of greasiness, cooked just right. The maki combo entree had a tuna, salmon and yellowtail roll and came with miso soup and salad. Everything was top notch and fresh. The service was impeccable. Gonna have to update my review because I've gotten my order wrong too many times but today's experience was the most disappointing. I ordered via DoorDash this time so I wasn't able to see the mistake until the food arrived. I got the Any 3 Rolls lunch with Philadelphia roll, BBQ Salmon roll, and a Sweet Potato roll. For some reason, the BBQ Salmon was replaced with a California roll. I had also asked for cooked salmon on the Philadelphia roll as my friend don't eat raw fish and they didn't give us that.
