Four stars because you can't beat these happy hour prices (see pictures). We stopped in at 5pm on a Thursday for happy hour and had the entire place to ourselves for the first 30 minutes. Service was prompt. It definitely feels like you're sitting in a stop mall at the bar. Overall the food and cocktails were just okay. If it weren't for the price I would have given it 3 stars. We ordered from here because our normal restaurant was unavailable. We didn't order anything difficult. I order Hot and Sour soup (2 portions bc they didn't have a large size), I lived to regret this decision. I also order the spicy chicken letttuce wrap...which I order extra spicy. I fact, I ordered everything extra spicy, but it wasn't even spicy AT all. The hot and sour soup wasn't spicy or sour. I had to add rice vinegar to even make it palatable. It was the wrong color. I knew without even opening it that it was wrong. The chicken wraps...entirely boring. Normally I'm so excited to eat the leftovers...these will all go in the trash. We won't ever order from here again: pretty terrible for the price we paid. read more

We just visited Asian Palace for a weekday lunch. Our party of four was seated promptly and we had our choice of locations. Only one other table was occupied. This continues to echo my concern about Asian Palace (see March 2025 review) and the stability of their business. Losing this restaurant would be a crying shame. Everything we ordered was both a good value and of top notch quality. I loved my salmon avocado rolls and I am not usually so much a sushi person. Service was very spotty. The one waitress assigned to the whole dining room would vanish for big chunks of time. Who really could blame her? There was no business. C'mon Howard County folks. Asian palace remains to be one of my favorite Asian spots in the area. I really enjoy the wide range of selections. For the first time, I had the drunken noodles here and was content with my order. It is slightly different from what I'm used to at a Thai restaurant in that it wasn't as spicy (though I requested medium spice), and it was missing basil. It reminded me of a cross between drunken noodles and Lo mein. It still hit the spot. I am forgetting the name but I had the hazelnut dessert afterwards. It was delicious! It wasn't too sweet and it was enough to satisfy my sweets craving. I just really love the prices here as well. It's always such a cost efficient place, with great food too. Service last night was a tad slower than I'm used to here, but could be because of a staffing shortage. Nonetheless, the staff were still friendly and efficient. read more

1.26.24 The kitchen and our server moved at a snail like pace and the restaurant wasn't that busy. I definitely feel that they need more help. I dined here many years ago with my family and decided that since my hubby and I live in Columbia now that we would give it try. Unfortunately, it didn't impress us. Hubby ordered the chicken and steak hibachi with a side of fried rice while I ordered the aged tofu as an app and the sweet and sour chicken. My first annoyance is that the tofu came out after my entree. When our server brought out my entree I inquired about the tofu and she said the kitchen was busy. I personally think she forgot about it because she literally brought it right out after I asked. The sweet and sour chicken was mostly just batter. There was barely any chicken in it. It was my first time trying the aged tofu. It was definitely unique. Soft on the inside yet crisp on the outside. I have no idea how they prepared it. I was impressed and curious how they prepared it. Hubby said that his steak was chewy, which I concurred after trying a piece. The highlight for him was that the dressing on the salad which he thought was tasty. My husband said that he felt bad for our server because it seemed as though she was predominantly the only one taking orders. Although she did have help with delivering food and clearing tables. She did not stop by one time to check on us and I was literally waving my arms to get her attention to get the check and a few boxes. I want to like this place because it's in my neighborhood, but I just cannot. Takeout service can be slow. One time they misplaced my order and I had to wait, with no complimentary food or drink offered. Another time they gave me the wrong meal. l ordered Sesame chicken and the chicken was tough and stringy. And for all this, I'm asked if I want to tip the staff. No thank you. read more

I had this cooky friend who would always take the vermouth bottle out and look at it while he shook up his straight gin and make "martinis." I thought of him as I ate this sad takeout "hibachi" chicken and imagined that's what the cooks were doing as they cooked the food. Looking at and contemplating the hibachi. Because there's no chance that this boiled chicken with zero sear ever touched a hibachi surface except possibly as a cold work surface. With crispy, crunchy crust- packed fluffy rice, topped w.ample sauce & roe, shredded salmon, crab, and tuna-everything was well distributed, hearty eats- While attempting to order the crystal roll, we found out they took it off the menu, except they would still make it for us- delightful surprise since I was craving the hearty chunks of thick salmon, with large chunks of crab meat & lemon, mango zest. Again, I didn't even use the sauce, I loved the base flavor so much- a very nice blended bite when eating other heavier sushi rolls Cajun roll is one of my favorite rolls because the heartiness & spiciness. Their pineapple fried rice is a consistent favorite sweet fresh pineapple with a pleasant hint of spice. Their sushi while not the best in Columbia has always been good well made and beautifully presented. The staff is attentive and welcoming. The food comes quickly. I grabbed two dishes to go and the dishes were Four Seasons and Sautéed Shrimp with Veggies. The dishes were roughly $14-15 a pop and they were not bad at all. Sautéed Shrimp: this dish came with lots of sautéed and seasoned veggies. There were a lot of argula, green onions, crunches (that you often find on top of crunch sushi), green and red peppers, and other bits. As for the shrimps themselves, there were an okay amount. The taste and texture were interesting. Every bite had a little bit of a weird but good combination of freshness and crunchiness. It's hard to explain the complex/weird/tasty sensation when eating the dish. Overall, the dish is probably a 4.5/5 because it's as delicious as it is a bit weird (in a good way). Four Seasons: this dish's meat included chicken, beef, shrimp, and scallop. To complement the four meats, the veggies were broccoli, mushroom, asparagus, and carrots. The sauce that went into the dish is that commonplace Chinese American food sauce that is abundantly found in most takeout restaurants as this. Overall, the taste was okay. The takeout process was good. I might just order another time if I'm in the mood for it! read more

Super underground place! Has the classic Asian restaurant menu - so much variety and a ton of popular dishes. I've had the general tso's and sesame chicken, and so many of their sushi rolls. Their raw fish is fresh, tender, and tasty. Their tempura is super crispy. Highlight is definitely the sushi. Not ever busy when I'm in the restaurant but the food is great and interior is chic and ambient, could be a great place to rent for events ! This restaurant has great customer service. When you walk in and out you are greeted warmly which I really appreciate because it's honestly not common in Asian restaurants. As for the waitresses, not so good service- they seemed to eavesdrop on our conversations and kind of stare a lot, which made me feel slightly uncomfortable. The food itself came in very large portions which was great. The presentation of the meals was also impressive. The only problem with the food, really, was that the fried rice tasted a bit too salty. Blast from the past!!!!! Went here for the fond memories I had with my uncle before he passed! We would come here for sushi!! They were really good then. So this time I returned with the wife and a little one . First off we had a salad with the miso soup...EXCELLENT...the little one devoured the soup while I ate the salad(the grand baby ate the tofu and all of the soup, who would've thought?) Next came the sushi sampler platter which me and the wife enjoyed!!! Next was her chicken hibachi, we all ate out of that's d it was cooked perfectly...no complaints at all. I had the pad Thai (beef, chicken, shrimp) which the noodles were perfect!! I would've gave this 4 stars but my chicken had a foul taste to it, at which point I alerted management!!! I like the option of noodles! This came with salad and miso soup. the chef did not remove that little muscle on the side of the scallop that gets very tough. I always remove it before cooking. The salad dressing seemed a bit watered down and not as good as other Asian restaurants. The scallops were just okay. Surprisingly, a few of them tasted quite fishy which is unusual for scallops. The restaurant was located in an un-assuming place that looks like an office park. The restaurant inside was much larger than expected. We came in at the end of their lunch hour (11am-3pm, M-Su). The bento boxes look pretty nice, and at $10.95 a piece they could probably be pretty filling. Instead, we opted to go with the sashimi dinner, edamame, and teriyaki salmon entrees. The menu is an eclectic all-encompassing offering of all sorts of Asian (Japanese, Chinese, and smattering of Vietnamese) food possible. We went with the Seafood Tom Yum soup for 2, edamame, sashimi dinner, and Maryland Crab Roll. The edamame came out steaming, which was nice, but they added a little too much salt on top. The Tom Yum Soup was a bit watery, with small pieces of tomato and seafood and other vegetables floating around. I ended up mostly just fishing out the solid food from the soup and eating that, over drinking the actual soup. I'd avoid this one next time. The sushi itself was appetizing and fresh for the area. If you're coming here, make sure you stick with the sushi. read more

A neighborhood gem in the heart of Hawthorn/Hickory Ridge community. We chose a Monday to avoid crowds and had a nice section of tables all to ourselves. Our family enjoyed a wide variety of delicious choices. Sushi maki and specialty rolls were delicious and the grandkids loved tasting new flavors. The vegetable tempura was light and crispy, you know how kids like that tasty crunch. Granddaughter had to be reminded the Pineapple fried rice with "shrimpys" was to be shared, lol but she kept it right in front of her. Everyone was pleased with their choices...sushi rolls were fresh and delicious. Hunan Chicken, Buddha Delight, Lo Mein with chicken, Pad Thai, Spicy Thai Green Curry Beef. Service was great, she made sure water cups had lids on them for the kids, was very polite and helpful. Often checked our hungry group for anything we needed and the food came out soon after we ordered without a long wait. Prices were very reasonable considering all the sushi we ordered. This place is underrated. For starters, I don't generally seek out Chinese food. I started coming here because my family was hungry and this restaurant was nearby and didn't have a wait. Now we go at least one a month. If I'm dining with my family, we generally order a few dishes and share. I'm never disappointed by the food I get here. We usually order the sweet and sour chicken, General Tso's chicken, Szechuan chicken, Lo Mein, Crispy Beef -- all are very good and my kids love it. I appreciate the amount of veggies that they serve with many of their dishes as well. On top of the Chinese dishes, they also make really good sushi and tempura. My father-in-law is a self-proclaimed miso soup afficionado and he approves of their soup lol. I've been overall very impressed. I love the spicy girl roll. I often order that for myself while everyone eats the other dishes. And if I happen to be working from home, I'll treat myself to a spicy girl roll then, too :-) I'm looking forward to trying the sushi rice bowl next time for lunch! I will never order sushi from Asian Palace again. We ordered to go. If we had eaten in the restaurant, I would have sent the food back. Because we love Yellowtail, we ordered two Yellowtail rolls. In addition, we order one of each of the following rolls... shrimp tempura, salmon skin, and eel cucumber. I will start with the worst...salmon skin. There was something so spicy in this roll that we both spit it out. The Yellowtail was just okay but nowhere near as fresh tasting as we like. The eel cucumber might have been good if we could have found the eel. The shrimp tempura just didn't taste good. It tasted as if it had been cooked in bad oil. Goodbye Asian Palace. read more

While looking from the outside in you'd never think this place is a decent sushi spot but it is. Located next to a coffee shop is this Japanese restaurant. While inside you'll be greeted and you'll also be seeing the nice furniture as well. Very well decorated but a little too dim for my liking. Now on to the food: Toro sushi- WOW! I always order this at all sushi places and you can never go wrong. Melts in your mouth and the waitress also old me that it's super fresh since it just arrived yesterday and she was absolutely correct. For market price it was only $5.50 for one and that's not bad compared to other establishments. Sashimi Combo- this came with 18 pieces of beautiful sushi. Tuna, ahi, squid, salmon and a couple others. Thick cuts and fresh! You have to try it! Drunken noodles- we ordered this with all the meats which was chicken, beef and shrimp. Nice soft noodles and veggies. Loved how fresh it was when it came to the table. Tri-color sushi- this consisted of tuna, salmon and some other fish with a spicy tuna roll. This was a great dish but the spicy tuna roll wasn't up to par from other places. All in all this is a great Japanese restaurant and if you're ever in the area be sure to try it out. read more

So, we have never had anything to complain about with the quality of the food, and I prefer their Beef Negamaki to other area restaurants. However, multiple times they've stated their credit card processing machine was "down" and could we pay cash....after this happened for like the fourth time I asked them why their machines failed so often and the guy (who regularly answers the phone to take orders - and has been quite gruff at times) said "we just prefer you pay cash". Well, that's not how the real world works....and because of this attitude this person continues to throw and pushback when we want to pay by credit card, we've decided there are too many other excellent Japanese / Sushi places in Columbia to tolerate it. so we've moved on from here. read more

I really do love this place. I come here a few times a year and order through delivery the same. They deliver independently but I really wish they were on GrubHub as well. Their sushi is high quality and they've always been standard in presentation. At another restaurant, I had a sushi ball made of spicy tuna & salmon that was wrapped in avocado and sprinkled in roe. It was called a tiger eye. I'd love if they'd update their menu to include that dish. I'm very particular in what I order as I'm on a high protein diet so I have to always customize what I request. My biggest grievance is I've noticed that the maki is now being made smaller and with less fish & veggies than previously. Although, I have a small appetite, when eating here, I have to eat quite a bit to be satiated. Prices are reasonable however so it won't break the bank, but it is a bit embarrassing having so much food. read more

Found this place via Yelp by searching drunken noodles. Was relatively close to the hotel I was staying at. About 6 miles. Food was done pretty quickly. These noodles were very satisfying since my last experience at another restaurant was "meh". These were savory and a bit salty like drunken noodles are supposed to be. Only unusual thing was they weren't spicy when most places add crushed peppers. That wouldn't stop me from ordering these again tho. read more

Udate: we had the Thai and chinese! Their green curry was delicious - I ordered the chicken but was happy to have an abundance of vegetables AND tofu in the dish! Perfect spice, may be a bit much for others taste, but green curry should be spicy. Their hot and sour was so so (I like mine with a bit more vinegar), but my fiance's General Tso's was great too!
