I thought this looked like an interesting poke place and I was not let down. I got the slammin' garlic salmon bowl, an intense bowl featuring crispy (cooked) mango salmon, tempura cream cheese, fresh jalapeño, avocado, and pickled daikon on your choice of base, layered with garlic puree and spicy mayo. I like spicy food and I was still a little taken aback by how spicy it was! But it was delicious! I loved the commitment to big flavour! My bowl was missing the wonton chips that were supposed to be included, but the salmon and tempura cream cheese sticks provided enough crunchiness that I ended up not really missing the chips. The tempura cream cheese was interesting; I'd liken it to tempura mozzarella sticks. The bowl overall was a little oily, but that may be unavoidable given what was in it. The bowl is $15 before tax. Two "scoops" of protein are included. You can add more for extra, but I thought the default two was plenty. For what I got, I think it was a fair price. I ordered using the kiosk in the food hall. You know how it goes. You've been traveling and eating a lot of pub food and greasy fried things, and you want something light and fresh. That was my mindset when I entered The Garage Food Hall at Bottleworks. I just wanted a nourishing lunch. I found that at Poke Guru. First, I have to say: I've really done a 180 on poke bowls in the Midwest! My rule has usually been to avoid raw fish in landlocked states, but that was an ignorant mindset to have. The raw fish (at least, the raw salmon) at Poke Gurus was cold and fresh and very good. I ordered The Original, which is rice with your choice of protein (I chose salmon), plus seaweed, edamame, cucumber, avocado, green onion, Kewpie mayo and pickled red onion. It was a bowl of goodness! The salmon was marinated in soy and sesame sauce, so it was very tasty. I would probably ask for a touch less sauce next time -- I like just a whisper of sauce on my poke bowls, and this one had lots of sauce. Ordering is easy: Just make your way to the touch-screen and enter what you want, and your order is sent to the people standing a couple of feet away from you, looking at you order your food on a kiosk. Great experience at Poke Guru. It is a stand combined with Let's Rolli inside the Garage food hall. Ordering is made very simple either through online, via touch-screen kiosk, or at the counter. Review: Poke Guru - My New BFF! As a new vegetarian (six months strong!), I'm committed to making better food choices. I'm about 90-100% vegetarian, but the day I ordered from Poke Guru, I was 100% in. I craved fresh veggies because I was under the weather and not in the mood to cook. This was my first time trying Poke Guru, and it definitely won't be my last--this place and I are now BFFs (shhh, they don't know yet!). First off, I have to mention the adorable bag my food arrived in. I don't know why, but I still have it folded like a prized souvenir, LOL. I was excited to try their Yum Yum Potatoes and opted for the Build Your Own Bowl (BYOB). I'm so glad I did! I loaded it with everything I love and even some ingredients I wanted to try for the first time. The best part? I chose nine sauces--yes, nine! They arrived in separate little containers, and I couldn't have been happier. These folks really are gurus! The potato appetizer was absolutely delish--10/10 on taste, 10/10 on quantity (although I wish I had six more potatoes because I devoured them so quickly, haha!). On price, I'd give it a 7/10. I ordered through DoorDash, so I understand the cost was a bit higher, but I'd expect to pay around $6 for the appetizer if I ordered directly. Now, onto the bowl. This is where the gurus truly worked their magic. The ingredients were FRESHAAHH(yes, I said freshaahh to emphasize just how fresh everything was). I saved my bowl to eat later since I wasn't feeling my best, and I was thrilled to find that even after 5-6 hours, the crispy wontons were still crispy-ish. That was a pleasant surprise. I didn't realize that everything was layered on specific sides, so I discovered the wasabi peas and fruit when I returned for my third small serving. The tofu--well, it didn't stand out too much. I chose fried and basic tofu for my proteins, but they didn't add much to the bowl. Still, they were a decent protein choice. I appreciate Poke Guru's commitment to sustainability, including its eco-friendly packaging and cutlery. It's great to support a place mindful of its environmental impact. In the end, I may or may not have licked the potato box, and I'm definitely adding non-hot wasabi peas to more of my vegetarian dishes. I'll be back at Poke Guru for sure! If you're looking for a healthy option at The Garage, Poke Guru is one of your best bets. I ordered online, which is the only way to create a custom bowl. You can select up to 2 each of the sauces, proteins, and "base" options (sushi rice, brown rice, mixed greens, or fried rice) and then up to 5 toppings for the base price. I ended up with a salmon and sushi rice bowl topped with edamame, avocado, cucumber, pickled red onion, and wonton chips. The sauces are served on the side, and I added on a side of wasabi for 75 cents. As someone who really enjoys wasabi, I was a little miffed to open the bag and see the extra charge was for a little flat portion just barely bigger than my thumbnail--wouldn't do that again. They also ask when ordering online if you'd like utensils and while I asked for chopsticks, I was given a fork instead. The bowl itself was pretty good. Having been a fan of the Poke Guru in City Market, I was glad to see either an expansion or relocation to this spot on the north end of the Garage at Bottleworks. Still the same great flavor of a freshly made bowl of food with great combinations of flavors that I never think of trying at home! Note that the Garage Food Hall is located inside the Bottleworks on the north side of 9th street and west side of Carrollton. Poke Guru is on the right side at the end. The bowls they offer come in different sizes though I will admit that the smaller bowl was plenty for my lunch (and still left a little room for some Lick Ice Cream across the shared seating area from Poke.) My wife ordered the Kalbi which comes with a choice of sushi rice or brown rice, and is topped with grilled Korean short ribs, seaweed salad, edamame, avocado, and pickled mustard seeds, pickled pear, and crispy onions. She would have enjoyed it more if the rice were warmed instead of chilled and a bit clumpy. I opted for the smaller bowl of the Bowl with No Name. I chose brown rice (it offers mixed greens instead), tuna tossed in pickled mustard seed (spiced with wasabi), cucumber, edamame, carrot, green onion, pickled daikon, and garlic chips. Excellent flavor combo, but if you order it, be sure to get a beverage to temper the "heat" unless you are one of those people who loves heat. You order from a counter and the meal is bagged for easy transport to your table in the common food hall area. If you choose the Kalbi, you can expect a longer wait time because they have to grill the short ribs while you wait. Maybe 10 minutes or so, but definitely longer than if you order one of the other bowls. It isn't a cheap spot to grab a bite, but the quality of ingredients makes it worth the price. If you haven't been to The Garage in The Bottleworks District yet, add it to your to do list for this week! Let's focus on Poke Guru! This delicious poke place is super fresh and delicious. Pictured is the sumo bowl in which is enough for two meals, so I'll be having this for lunch tomorrow! The sesame miso sauce is delicious and I got a mix of greens and sushi rice for a little extra veggies in my day. Word of caution, as this new district gets up and running there can be some construction, but parking is easy. They have outdoor seating options to take advantage of the great weather we've been having. Lastly, I would recommend going for lunch, dinner has been super busy and you have to wait sometimes due to COVID capacity restrictions, but lunch doesn't have that challenge. Enjoy!! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now, so I'm very happy they are close by the garage! I went with the OG with salmon and I have no regrets. Tasted like a giant, delicious sushi roll. I would say ratio toppings to rice was a little off (more rice) but I'm kind of a big fan of sushi rice so it works. You can always go to the lighter side and choose greens instead of rice, might try that next time. I grew up eating poke and often crave the fresh taste and creamy chew of raw tuna. When the Garage opened and I saw Poke Guru I studied their menu with fervor, delighted to add another place to my Indy seafood repertoire. The menu did not disappoint. My first experience with them, I bought $40 worth of saké and my friend ordered the Bowl With No Name: sushi rice with cucumber, edamame, carrot, green onion, pickled daikon and garlic chips with a tangy house Chinese mustard . And of course- poke. The larger bowl was somewhere around $13 and the saké was pricy and delicious. I sipped happily on my rice wine and watched my friend mix the bowl, take 4 bites and pause, before saying "I don't think I like this." I promptly took a bite, confused and persuaded by the pretty looking dish. The sauce had little flavor. Tragic. The veggies were fresh but added almost nothing to the taste. Most of the bowl was sushi rice and the bland creamy sauce. My friend got an Arepa instead (shoutout to the incredible Azucar Morena). My second experience with them came with my regular poke craving. I was excited for their veggie-heavy bowls and fresh fish and swung by during my work break. Service was quick and staff was friendly. I ordered the Spicy Citrus Ponzu bowl: sushi rice with cucumber, edamame, seaweed, green onion, pickled pear, crispy nori strips, and crispy onions that I subbed out for pickled daikon. It came with their house ponzu sauce and your choice of salmon, tuna or tofu. Poke was the move. I pocketed my chopsticks and darted outside to capture the beautiful bowl in sunlight before hurriedly taking a few bites. Seaweed- delicious. Can't get enough of it. Daikon- perfectly soothing crunch. Cucumbers- refreshing. Sauce- thick and sweet, little citrus. Ponzu by definition is citrus soy, so with the redundant name of the bowl it's shocking that the sauce has zero citrusy tang. But the most shocking part by far was the poke. It was obviously not fresh as it was not fully unfrozen and crunched to the bite. The flavor was one I've not experienced before and tasted like a gross attempt at umami with too much salt. I tossed the tuna on the garage floor when I returned to work. I gave them two stars because I enjoy the veggies on the menu and think that I would enjoy the food if I ordered vegetarian. However you can't call yourself Poke Guru with inedible poke. Check them out for a fresh meal, but order carefully and make sure to grab a side of soy. read more

If you're unfortunate enough to have a dairy allergy like I do, you realize very quickly how hard it is to go out and eat in Indianapolis. Fresh fresh fresh!! I've had poke about a zillion times and I can tell the quality of the fish here is awesome. At this time they are only offering small/large bowls and drinks. On their menu they do have a "snacks" section that is coming soon. Most of the vendors within the Garage seem to be slowly ramping up their menus etc so this wasn't surprising or deterring. The small was a great size if you are also planning to snack around at a few places in the garage. The original bowl comes with a "pick your base" with brown rice, greens or sushi rice options. Tuna, salmon or tofu as proteins. Pretty basic bowl for poke, but they nailed all the flavors! They do have some more adventurous options like the sichuan salmon or the pepper tofu. read more

Came here for dinner one Friday evening. One thing to note is that this place is never busy (pro/con in and of itself) but you're served quickly and get your food in a mere minutes! It's also great to have a super fresh, healthy options in the Garage. I loved this fresh, local poke option that first came from the City Market. The staff and owner are always so friendly and helpful...especially since I don't eat raw fish/sushi so need some help when ordering veggie-friendly options. We opted for the miso sesame tofu bowl, the upgraded size, half rice + half greens. It wasn't too horribly overpriced, but the worse part: it was 90% rice/greens. There were hardly any toppings cause it was so full of rice/greens. There was also hardly any sauce. We ordered extra on the side and it still wasn't enough to even make it flavorful. Something was off, for sure. While I normally love when I get my money's worth...and then some, these cute, tiny bowls make it nearly impossible to not make a complete mess since they're jam packed so full. Maybe switching to a different type of container would help accommodate the large amount of time. Would love to see non-plastic being used as well.
