We went because the other sushi place we wanted to go was closed. The appetizer was good but the soups for the entree came out with the appetizers along with our drinks. It took a while for the entree to come out. Fish tasted like they were frozen not fresh, plating was a bit confusing and did not come with any instructions, and the soba noodles for yakisoba were not even proper soba noodles. Our entree looked very sad plating wise as well. By the time we were done with everything and ready to leave our second appetizer that we had to switch out because the kitchen was out of what we ordered came out. I personally got a number of things including the shrimp tempura (perfect), teriyaki beef with fried rice (the rice was fluffy not fried) - which could have been because I went towards the end of the closing. It came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup had tofu in it which I think took away a lot of the miso flavor, but the salad was yummy. I also had pork fried dumplings for the table that were vegetable dyed that surpassed my expectations after having the rice. My family took a mini vacation to discover Indianapolis. We stayed in the active downtown area. After a day of walking around and discovering the downtown area, we were craving Sushi. We looked for a close sushi place with affordable rates and a good rating. We landed at the The Sushi Den. It hit all the boxes with good service, easy to find location, neat ambiance and delicious food with fair pricing. Worth the drive!!! My friends and I were looking for a place to get some food and one suggested this new sushi spot! I'm always on the prowl to try new spots so we agreed to meet at sushi den!! This place is so cutely decorated. I love the scenery. I think they mentioned a patio/outdoor seating coming in the near future! I would love that. Review update. Our first visit was great! I ordered a sweet potato tempura roll. It was served with tempura sweet potatoes, rice, and seaweed. Delicious. We went back last Monday and i ordered the same thing. I actually brought a bottle of gluten free soy sauce and the server who i think is also the owner commented that they carry gluten free soy sauce. I placed the same exact order however this time the sweet potato tempura came out with eel sauce. There was no eel sauce the first time i ordered it. I thought it odd the server mentioned seeing the gluten free soy sauce then brought me a dish covered in gluten after the first time i ordered it, it didn't contain it. I wish I could give sushi den five stars. And in most areas, they deserve five stars! However, when we visited, they were severely understaffed. There was only one server for the entire entire restaurant. After being seated and ordering everything together, because we were on a time crunch, it took 40 minutes to receive our glasses of water and five more minutes to receive the beer that we ordered. Because they were so busy, they didn't have anyone working the bar, so they couldn't give us the cocktails. We had ordered 45 minutes prior lol they did offer sake on the house in place of the cocktails. Our food came out shortly after, and we had to inhale it in order to get to the show on time. I saw massive boat-shaped serving plates and light-up drinks. Sushi Den has many fake plants, cute teapots, and interesting shapes. The lunch specials are a great price, especially for the great location and service. Sushi Den serves everything from a bento box to custom sushi rolls to teriyaki chicken to ice cream.
