Super friendly staff and best poke I've had on the island. Yuzu salmon was the only one left at 1pm on a weekday - I'm guessing they usually sell out fast! All the options looked really good and the yuzu salmon was so delicious! The yuzu wasn't overpowering. I usually don't like mayo based sauces but this one was light and great! Id love to try the ahi next time. Takeout only here! read more

Great reviews so we had to come by! I love how they make their poke bowls with all the additions. I got the spicy ahi and it was good. The pickles were tasty and the sweet potato side was delicious. I'm not a huge fan an imitation crab and there was a good scoop of it so it's good if you like it! My husband got the garlic spicy ahi which was really good. If we went back, I would get that one! I came at 12pm on a wednesday and there was a short line. There is no indoor seating and only a few tables for outdoor seating. Luckily we were able to get a table. Our order took around 5-10 minutes to come out and it was good -- the poke was fresh and I liked the addition of the toppings. Each bowl was $16.50 which seemed like a fair price! read more

This was my favorite poke in Hilo, tucked in a small shack on a busy street. The yuzu salmon was amazing - large chucks of salmon w/ a yuzu dressing. The purple sweet potato salad was my favorite side, i've never had a purple potato salad before. This bowl was well balanced with freshly pickled cucumbers, crab salad was solid, ahi was fresh on a hot bed of rice. I would def reccomend this spot if you're in the area. We were craving poke, and since we were on the Hilo side, we decided to grab it from this place. It was more like a small cabin with just a window where you order, and they hand you the food through it. Very simple, very grab-and-go. We got a classic poke plate with rice and two types of fish, and purple yam. Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful. We also got one snack, unfortunately, I don't remember the name, but it was also very, very good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At first, I was hesitating a little when thinking about the overall experience, just because it's not a place where you sit down, and from the outside it might not look like much. But honestly, the food was amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And I realized that maybe this is exactly how locals eat: simple places with truly great food. This is a little hole in the window shop in the north end of Hilo. Service was quite nice and described each of the food items for us. There is no parking in the nearby vicinity that's free, so recommend if there is a party of 2, someone getting down and quickly ordering. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were no free tables to sit down and eat so it's quite grab and go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When ordering they also have onigiri that you can grab to go. The spicy tuna onigiri was fantastic. The food comes out within a few minutes. The women taking our order was very patient and helped us decide which poke bowl we wanted. Of the poke we had in Hawaii this was our favorite. Even my parents who don't like seafood claiming it taste fishy were digging in. Our bowl had both tuna and salmon. I loved the ahi tuna, my brother was a bigger fan of the salmon. Plenty of toppings were also provided the mac salad was also great. Overall, some of the best poke I have had and would encourage you to visit if on big island. read more

Literally the best poke I've ever had! I got the Spicy Ahi bowl and it was everything I imagined it to be and more. The cut of the fish, the marinade, the sides of imitation crab and sweet potato salad - 10/10 did not disappoint. Service was quick and friendly, the shop is just a little window where you order and pick up. Recently moved to Hilo and this has become one of my go to spots for a poke bowl. Fish is always fresh and delicious, the rice is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Service is quick and the workers know the menu and able to lead you in the right direction of what you're feeling. Everything that I got so far has been really good and a little unique. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The do have limited seating right out front but you're super close to the beach or near the park so there definitely options.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Poke market is a takeout place with no dine in seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All in all I love this place and will be coming more often. Let me tell you about the power of Yelp. Never, in a million years, would I ever order a poke bowl from a walk-up window where you were not allowed to see what goes on inside. Well, I trusted Yelp reviews because they haven't let me down yet. The bowls were delicious and fresh and $8 a bowl cheaper than their competitor at the farmers market. I would absolutely come back. The drawbacks were that they only sold bottled water and juices. I wanted a Diet Coke, but, nonetheless, the water was nice, cold and way better for me than diet soda. read more

This is one of the best, if not the best, poke bowls I've ever had! I ordered the all-star poke, which includes spicy ahi tuna and yuzu salmon. Both types of fish were very good. The yuzu salmon has a light and refreshing citrusy flavor. The spice level of the spicy ahi tuna is very mild if you have a moderate spicy tolerance. The yuzu salmon was my favorite, while the spicy ahi tuna was my cousin's favorite, so I would recommend trying both! The initiation crab and especially the taro salad were also really good. Everything blended so well together. In terms of portion size, I thought the bowl was the perfect size for me because I was full by the end of it. Maybe the amount of fish given is less than other places, but I only really noticed because other reviews commented on that. Otherwise, I think the proportions of all the food offered was good. Came across this place while walking around hilo town. It's literally a hole in the wall and I am so glad we decided to try it out. There was no line but as we ordered, the next thing I knew there were at least three other groups waiting to order! I decided to get the Spicy D Tokyo Bowl and boy oh boy did I LOVE it so much. I live on Oahu and there are so many places to get great poke, and this thing was probably on my top three I have ever tried! The toppings were so good as well. At first I thought cabbage?? WHY?? My wife and I have been going to Hilo for the past 13 yrs since her mom moved there. We tried Suisan Fish Market our 1st time in Hilo and I thought it was just ok. Didn't really understand the hype. But then we noticed Poke Market opened in Hilo on 1 of our other visits and had to try it. It's purely a take out spot and the service is fast. And man, it's good. Overall Experience: 8.4 /10 The shop is a small stall on the side of the building in Hilo, and was a takeout only. The shop was initially hard to find but when you get closer to it is easy to spot out. We tried the spicy hawaiian and shiitake salmon. Both bowls were fresh, but the spicy didn't pack enough punch. It felt like the sauces did not have enough flavor, for both bowls. The fish did most the work as the sides were good but not great. The Ube scoop was a little under seasoned while the imitation crab salad was mostly mayo tasting. The shiitake salmon had more flavor but we were both disappointed in the portion sizes of the food after viewing the photos on yelp beforehand. The rice given was minimal and the fish scoops were small. However given all that the fish was great, I do think it was just an unlucky batch we may have received at the time. The service was nice and the person taking our order helped us out on what to choose. Overall I would come back to try it again maybe on a better day to hopefully see what the hype is all about, but for now I would not give it a strong go but go if you're craving poke. read more

Wow tried this spot from a few recommendations and overall satisfied. Personally bummed you can't just order poke because I rather have the fish than all the sides but glad the fish tastes great. Or I definitely would've ordered just extra poke to go with my bowl. Tried the spicy garlic and the sesame soy and both were delicious. People in line were raving about the yuzu salmon so I'll have to try that next time. They were out of avocado today but the pickled cucumber was a nice substitute. Ay look, I was happy with the sack n save poke and could've eaten it every day. Got mad recommendations to hit this spot while in Hilo. Got here, line is long, and flavors seem (a lil too) exotic, and portions a bit smaller than what I'm used to, so I was 2nd guessing myself. But maaaaannn! This literal hole-in-the-wall has some of the best poke you'll ever have. The sides were decent and I like that they thought out of the box with the sweet potato salad, but the star of the show is that fresh fish. After sampling between 4-5 poke spots per island (Hawai'i, Kauai and Maui) I consider myself somewhat of a poke connoisseur and have officially found what I believe to be the *best poke spot* of all time! From the moment I laid eyes on the menu, I knew the Shiitake Yuzu salmon would be out-of-this-world amazing and it completely lived up to all expectations. This poke carries a rich essence of mushroom umami with overlying bright, tangy citrus notes that infuse without overpowering the fatty flavor of that buttery rich salmon. For your first time, the All-Star Bowl comes with a little of everything: both Spicy Ahi and Shiitake Salmon along with a dollop of Poke Market's signature creamy ube salad. And finally, the unagi truffle sauce drizzle and crunchy Bubu Arare (tiny rice cracker pearls) as delicate-not-distracting garnishes to finish off this exquisite bowl were simply ~ chef's kiss ~ A lot of locals seem to frequent this spot on their lunch breaks and there's always a line but service is fast and friendly! Keep in mind there's no seating area but just under a 5 min drive away are the gorgeous Lili'uokalani Gardens - the perfect spot to enjoy your bowls under some nice shady banyan trees overlooking the water :) read more

Nice little poke shop with great options for poke! The offerings are seasonal, so there are always opportunities to try new things! There was a steady stream of customers, but we hardly had to wait for our bowls to come out. The salmon poke wasn't the freshest but still very flavorful and delicious! Portions also weren't bad for the price so I was pleasantly surprised! I'll definitely be back soon. read more

I absolutely love this poke spot. I get the spicy ahi w sweet potato and imitation grab. The sweet potato as a side is so good I usually get double. It's on the pricier side but the poke speaks for itself. It can get pretty packed as the line is usually long and would say it's a popular tourist destination. Another thing is I wish they gave more poke since you are paying a little more than other places. As a local tho I would approve of this place. Check them out in downtown Hilo. read more

Established in 2016.

Chef Ernie Gray first launched his Poke Market in October of 2016 in Downtown Hilo. Previously located in the red building at the Farmer's Market Kitchen, Chef Gray permanently closed that location on April 5, 2017 and began looking for a new location. (Any resemblance, similarity or imitation of Chef Gray's food at the former location is without permission.). We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new brick and mortar location on historic Waianuenue Ave in Hilo. I ordered a 4 oz portion in a small plastic cup and immediately regretted that I did not order a larger size after trying out the first bite. The uala here is delicious! I loved the consistency and texture -- smooth and creamy, but there were still chunks of potato throughout that had not been completely mashed up. There was plenty of shredded coconut mixed in, along with some fresh scallions for a bit of freshness. While I can't comment on the poke, the uala itself is a five star in my book and is enough to get me coming back for more if I'm in the area.

There are multiple species that you don't ever see outside of Hawaii or often at least. Was happy to know that I'll never see an avocado of this size in Alaska, but it still made me sad because it did taste delicious.

We went on a Monday afternoon and there was a couple of people in front of us and a small line forming behind us. The employee that helped us was friendly, patient and helped us sample many different pokes, answered our questions and made helpful suggestions. I got the shoyu and Korean poke, and my friend got the Korean Marlin. Decent portions and you know it's fresh. Great place for poke bowls.

Always happy to accommodate you in the best way they can. After one kamaaina visit the servers will know your name. They'll make you feel welcome and that you are a part of their experience too, something that is nearly impossible to find in other town dining. They have rewards programs for kamaaina which includes a point system that gives you significant savings on your next visit. The food is first rate, from the pupus to the main dishes to the desserts. Sauced and presented in five star fashion, without feeling pretenious. We will be their peskiest and most loyal customer as long as we are in the area. Kudos to Jackie Rey's Hilo.

If you dine here and are not a big person don't get a booth table as it's the most uncomfortable seating I've ever experienced. The seat is way too far from the table and I needed to lean forward and sit on the edge of the seat. I would recommend getting a table its chair so you be able to adjust yourself to the distance from the table. Server was just Ok and with them placing a water decanter on the table for refill they didn't come around as often. The decanter water has no ice so whatever ice you have in your cup to cool the water. Last time eating at this establishment was better and my only complaint was the window seats next to the picture window and the flys that was buzzing there. Only thing is again there were two big flies buzzing the windows and I had to waved them away. The doors are always shut and only when customers walk in could the flys get in. Staff should walk around before opening and get rid of them. We entered about 5:10 PM so it was opened for just 10 minutes and shouldn't have flys. Air conditioning was on but the temperature was a bit warm and a cooler temperature of maybe 10 degrees be perfect. I had the mochico Ono and it was just ok tasting but on the plate presentation was nice. My wife had the pork chops and she really liked it but said was just a little over cooked. I did try a small sample and to me it was just ok also. ambiance in the restaurant is nice and most of the staff were very attentive. The server we had wasn't and I needed to Get his attention to get my bill even though he had passed multiple times and didn't or should have noticed we were done dining. Probably not be dining again at this establishment again and do know of better dining spots in Hilo.

We didn't think of anything when we saw it the first time. By just looking at the name of it though, my immediate reaction was, "Is this a kombuchas bar??" Well, it is but it's not just kombuchas they serve; it's more than that. The breakfast/brunch dishes they serve (although they don't have a huge selection) are quite diverse. I do incorporate a lot of vegetarian/vegan diet into my daily meal routine so when I saw the Verdant Vegan I simply couldn't skip it. As my daughter and I usually split a plate when we dine together she agreed to this option of mine. Glad we did. This plate has all sorts of goodness included in it. Sautéed veggies, house-made lentil walnut chorizo, ginger beet kraut, fire-roasted jalapeno cashew crema, fire-roasted tomato salsa, and it's topped it off with sprouts. This whole thing comes with either purple sweet potato home fries or red rice (which we went with the purple sweet potato fries and ended up getting a side red rice. We also got the side kimchi and one egg sunny side up.) And we shared a 16oz Ceremonial Matcha latte as well. This vegan plate is way more than vegan. It's mighty as hell. For those who are still not sure about vegan options will definitely second guess it for something that isn't vegan/vegetarian. It's truly nutrition packed in so many different ways. If I lived close to this cafe, I would eat here once a week to enjoy this delightful meal. I am not kidding. I enjoyed the matcha latte very much although my daughter rated it as "okay". She likes her matcha in a very particular way so it unfortunately didn't impress her. This is not to say that she disliked it. She said it wasn't bad either. This place is a "walk in, order upfront, pick a table where you want to sit and one of the staff will bring your food to you" style cafe. Water is self-served. Once you are done with your meal you'll put your dirty dishes in the designated tub. I like this efficient style of serving food. This place has great vibes as well. A bit hippie-ish where bright dark colors such as purple and red are incorporated into the interior. There is even a stage where bands perform on certain days/times. Quite cool-looking. If you are visiting Hilo soon then put this place on your "must visit" restaurant list. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and quality food will entertain you for sure.
