    PokeSan Bowl

Very casual spot with amazing poke bowls! The prices are very reasonable for the portion and they have plenty of great vegetarian friendly options. If you like poke, this place is a must!!

This is probably one of my favorite poke bowls ever! Although I only eat shrimp/chicken proteins so I dont have much to comment on the salmon/tuna proteins. The bowl is super fresh and all the ingredients felt very clean and healthy. I love how they have pre-set options and also Build your own bowls. The most interesting topping for me was the mashed sweet potato! Ive never seen that before in poke and thought it was an interesting addition. Service was great!! The workers there were attentive and had our bowls made quickly. They also were just friendly in general and I felt welcomed in the store. I also like how the store has seating against the window and also quieter booths for smaller parties.

Came to Chicago for work and was searching boba teas on yelp. I'm downtown by the river and it was a 16 min walk. I love walking here in Chicago so the walk was nice. Got there and the staff didn't say anything but was to the side making orders. I feel like they were just letting you be. There is a self check out. They did answer some questions and made the drink pretty fast. The place is really cute inside as well. This cloud drink was really good. Can't explain it, but I've never had a drink like it. It was like a cream. Really delicious! They do have many many drink options and the food looks really good. I had dinner reservations so I didn't try the food. I will definitely come back !

Stopped by Poke San and tried the Aloha Bowl and a Hokkaido milk tea and both were excellent. The bowl was super fresh and had a great balance of flavors and textures. Everything tasted really delicious and well put together. The Hokkaido milk tea was creamy and just the right amount of sweet, a perfect pairing with the bowl. The staff was really friendly and welcoming, and the space has a cute, relaxed vibe that makes you want to hang out for a bit. It was my first time here, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more. Great spot for a quick, flavorful meal.

Wow wow wow! What an incredible place, from the fish looking and tasting so incredibly fresh to the rice having such a delicious flavor. This place is incredible. Fast service, clean space. Try it today!!

    5 Scoops of Protein

I ordered a pick-up from Poké San and walked in 20 minutes later--my order was ready right on time! The interior is super cool, with a Chipotle-style poke bowl bar where you can customize your bowl, plus a juice bar up front. There's plenty of seating if you want to eat there, both indoors and outdoors. I went with 5 scoops of protein, which I'd recommend if you're really hungry--it was the perfect portion. My bowl had veggies, sushi rice, spicy tuna, double spicy salmon, regular salmon, and spicy shrimp, topped with spicy mayo and poke sauce. The combination was spot on! For my first poke bowl in Chicago, I have to say this is as good as it gets in the Midwest. I'll definitely be coming back next time I want quick Poke and would highly recommend getting a side of spicy mayo for extra dipping!

My poke bowl was so good that I ate it too fast and gave myself a stomach ache. It's a great takeout option for when you're in need of something special for the day. They make the portions huge too! I just wish they added more actual fish instead of rice and veggies. -AT

Very Good poke place. Fish was excellent ( super fresh ) and I enjoyed most of the toppings ( including the marinated shiitake mushroom which you don't typically find at other poke places). In addition to poke they have a hug cafe drink menu including coffees, cloud drinks , smoothies and milk teas. Recommend if in the area looking for a healthy option .

Cute poke place in river north! I tried their built your own poke bowl. They have a couple of starters and vegan option too! They have an option of in house made drinks. I tried the Sunrise drink, kinda like a milk tea and it was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend getting that drink! Quick with your order!

It's hard to comment on the Poke Bowl in Chicago as I'm not familiar with the local's expectations. The fish was fresh. The service was good. There's no spicy aioli sauce? Frankly, the Poke Bowl we have in Cupertino, CA, has a better variety of fish options and condiments.

    Strawberry Matcha and Small Bowl
    Samantha A.

I was so excited to see another Poke place open up in Chicago, let alone River North, and this place didn't disappoint! I got the small bowl and strawberry matcha- both were great. It's a little walk from the beach too and a perfect stop to pick up from before!

New poke spot in town!!! Great selection of choices and all of the ingredients are fresh. Reasonable pricing for the portion served. Make sure to try out the sushi rice! It's hard to find a poke spot that serves traditional sushi rice, so it's amazing to see Sushi San has sushi rice instead of just ordinary rice. The drink menu is phenomenal, lots of choices! The drinks we ordered were all amazing! The interior design was cute, unique, and extraordinary! All staffs were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely a great spot to hit up for a quick meal (very convenient and quick place to snag a meal).

The poke bowls were a good value for money and so many different types of bowls and combinations to choose from! Also loved the drinks - the strawberry matcha especially.

It was very much between lunch and dinner time, so the restaurant was completely empty inside. My friend and I perused the menu board and eventually each decided to get a regular sized build-your-own bowl. In my poke bowl, I got spicy tuna, salmon, and scallop as the proteins and purple rice as the base. I really appreciate them allowing three different protein choices, variety is great! I then got an assortment of other toppings, including my favorites, fish roe and imitation crab. Everything tasted very fresh as expected, though I think in the future I'd rather get a 2nd portion of scallop instead of spicy tuna (just a personal preference). My friend dined outside the restaurant on the sidewalk since it was a nice day, and interestingly some birds came by and basically begged for food. The price is super reasonable for the quality and portions and I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area. More likely though, I'll order delivery again from them first! The donburi was delicious and something I would get again. There was just enough of everything to feel balanced. From the moment you walk in, you get a warm Hawaiian vibe even in the middle of winter. It really makes you forget how cold it is outside. The staff member who helped us was incredibly kind and patient, especially with my sister, and I love the build-your-own bowl concept where you can customize everything to your liking. FYI everything is freshly prepared in-house. I ordered a regular bowl with rice and greens, tuna, spicy tuna, and tofu, then added toppings like kimchi, corn, carrots, ginger, cucumber, onions, and a crunchy topping. They finished it with garlic aioli and another sauce, so good! The garlic aioli was a standout. My mom ordered a similar bowl with tuna, spicy tuna, and cooked shrimp. She was pleasantly surprised by the value and kept saying how much she loved the food. The portions were generous, we even had leftovers to enjoy later. We also tried the spicy miso soup for dinner, and she loved that just as much. My baby sister kept it simple with rice and spam. She said she liked it, but true to her picky nature, she took one bite and that was it. Overall, a fantastic experience with fresh ingredients, great service, and generous portions. Highly recommend! Hope you check it out.

Granted the last time I went here was in 2019 to their old location just a few blocks up on Lincoln Avenue but it seems they got a corporate makeover after shutting down during the pandemic and rebranding. Maybe they have a new owner...? It's much more spacious and brighter with Herman Miller stool seats, a pinball machine and high ceilings. But with all of these new trendy upgrades it has lost its cozy, relaxing small business neighborhood vibe the old location had IMO. They added bubble tea and Mochi donuts to their menu. They also were playing rap & trap music and I honestly thought I had walked into the wrong place when I went in. Gone are the guys busy behind the counter. You order via an ordering kiosk (they seem to be popular with places cutting down on staff) made by one person behind the counter. My order was made quickly but I'm not really sure about the kiosk ordering system since you need to input your phone number. I ordered my favorite bowl of theirs, Jimmy's Creation. The first time I tried it in 2018 it was so good I nearly skipped out of the place and wanted to eat here everyday. It's still good but the rice is much more sticky, a little too sticky for my liking since I had to break it up into chunks with my chopsticks. The sauce was a bit too sweat also. Was it always this sweat...? A minor issue though based on preference I guess. I would probably return again but probably not go out of my way and trek through a snow storm like I did once years ago.

There's a large number of ingredients and sauces that don't always taste the best together. I did appreciate the menu with steps to orde. It helped my husband who doesn't get poke as often to decide. My 2 cents: a preset poke bowl menu and pictures might help the ordering go more smoothly. The Tuna and Salmon were good, the shrimp was miniscule. Sushi rice was delicious and overall it felt like a nice healthy and fresh meal. Poke is overall expensive so portions were on par with other locations. I think its the lack of marinating the protein or sauces that are lacking in flavor. There was a variety of texture but no saltiness or spiciness or umami flavoring to offset the blandness or the veggies and protein. Interestingly enough, the spam musubi was one of the best I've had in a while. I loved the egg addition to the 2 slices of spam and warm rice. I would return for several spam musubis and if I'm craving something lighter to eat.

When I came in, the entrance is decorated pretty nicely and then there are some display cases with different types of tiki mugs. Many of which are for sale so you're able to take home a little bit of this paradise if you really want to. I had initially sat at the tables but it was a large table and I was by myself and didn't want to take up that much space. So I asked to be seated by the bar. Which is why some of the pictures I took had this blue glow to them that probably don't highlight the food as much as could have. The food wise was really good and the portions. My opinion were rather watch. I had ate dinner that night and took the leftovers home which was lunch. The next day. I had the Hawaiian BBQ chicken that I thought was very good and was recommended by the staff. For drinks, I had a Mai Tai which packed a pretty big punch. My first sip was a little strong, but after eating a little bit and coming back to it, the ice had melted. Just enough for the drink. Actually mellowed greatly and was very enjoyable. Tiki drinks tend to be very strong so I didn't really find this as an issue.
