The ambiance strikes a perfect balance with dim, intimate lighting and a clean, modern presentation. It feels polished without being stiff, refined but still welcoming. Most importantly, it delivers where it counts, on the plate. We started with the lamb lollipops, cooked precisely to temperature and finished with crushed pistachios, pomegranate, and a rich demi-glace. Each bite delivered depth, brightness, and texture. The Dungeness crab croquettes were equally impressive, crispy on the outside with a delicate, herbaceous interior. Rich, but never heavy. The French onion soup is an experience in itself, served in a hollowed onion. Bold, deeply savory, and incredibly comforting. Service elevated the night even further. Our server, Karra, asked if we'd sharing and had the kitchen split our entrées into individual portions, a thoughtful touch. The steak arrived perfectly cooked, and exactly as ordered. We finished with the English sticky toffee pudding, warm, gooey, and unapologetically decadent. Montarra doesn't chase trends. It executes upscale dining with precision, care, and genuine hospitality. That is exactly why it stands out, and why I'll keep coming back. Go experience it for yourself.

Not saying it is bad, in fact, it is very fresh and delicious. A business has to answer the following question in order to justify the price: What does it bring to the table that others do not? It's the same menu that 50 nearby Mexican restaurant have. 4 tacos, a torta, a quesadilla, and a bowl = $58 plus drive thru gratuity, almost $70. On a positive note, I can say the food is fresh and their proteins are grilled on an actuall grill, and not a flat top. The price of tiny little street tacos nowadays is just a crime though, it doesn't make them so "street" anymore. Unfortunately, every place is doing it now. I'd say there can be a time and place for for Salsa Verde. I can imagine their catering is likely great. Also, I think it would be excellent for lunch breakers. Drive up, get a filling $12 bowl, burrito, or torta, and be generously stuffed. Their quesadilla is filled to the max with meat. You COULD sit down at other bar and grill Mexican restaurants, pay the same price, and at least ambience too, the choice is yours.

Today, we visited with 5 people total (one was a little kid). 3 of 5 arrived first, checked in with the hostess, and were told 5-10 minutes wait. The remaining two arrived shortly after check-in. So all party was there. After waiting for 20 minutes, we noticed a larger group the came after us got seated before. So we approached to ask about our turn, the unfriendly manager said that because there were specific table size, and a booth would not fit us. So we have to wait. A few minutes later, we saw a group of 5 was called, who also came after us. I went up to the hostess and asked again. At that point, the hostess seemed to not able to find our name on the list, and the same manager approached and used not so patience tone with me. I calmly explained that at this point, we have waited for almost 30 minutes (when we were told 5-10 minutes initially), and when many people (4 or more people) came after us got seated. At this point, the manager impatiently said we there was a booth, and we said we would take it as one of the five was a little kid. She grudgingly showed us to the booth, and along the way mumbling that the restaurant was full and all. Now, the food wasn't that great either. When our food arrived, they were lukewarm at best. It was as if they were sitting for a while. Again we understand when the restaurant gets busy, there is waiting. We also understand there could be a mix up during busy time. The manager never acknowledge anything, instead we were made to feel as if we were unreasonable. They just lost 5 customers today.

My family and I have gone for both lunch and dinner and I feel like every time we go, we get more and more disappointed. For one, service is never consistent, which I get when you don't have the same server every time but it's never great- Good at best. There's always a wait when you come in, even though there are more than enough tables, and you're always hunting down your server. Food wise- it's stingy. We are a family of 5- they allow you to order up to 5 meats, but you can't double up on a meat (2 bulgogi orders) and when you order chicken or pork, it literally is a piece of chicken or pork. I do not recall having this issue when we went to the Mt Prospect location. 2 out of 3 of my boys are still young, so I couldn't imagine going with all adults or teenagers. Also, 2 times now, we've been served under cooked Korean Fried Chicken. Because we can't trust that it's cooked, and my boys enjoy eating it- even though I'd be fine skipping it, I have to inspect the chicken and make sure it's cooked all the way. The one time my 5 year old had eaten the whole leg before we discovered it was bloody at the bone! The last time we brought it up to the waiter, he tried to convince us it wasn't raw, no sir that is not pink. That is red and that is blood... The last time we ate there, we went for my 6 year olds birthday. We allow our kids to pick where they want to eat for their birthdays and our son was looking forward to Korean food and spinning the birthday wheel. We had to ask our waiter 2xs for our son to do it. There was no birthday song or treat. He just dragged the wheel over, gave him a head band and let him spin.... Very underwhelming for a 6 year. Not sure if we'll visit this location again. We have other Korean restaurants we can travel to, even if it's not AYCE.
