We finally tried Pokemoto and I was shocked at how fresh it was! The counter was clean, the staff was patient and listened and everything is customizable!! They do toss their proteins and veggies in a bowl with your sauce choice, but they were willing to not do that also! The salmon was fresh, the veggies had a nice crunchy and the rice was well seasoned!

Updated review: this place continues to slam! The service is quick and the staff is friendly. I almost always get a bowl, but I finally decided to try a (humungo) burrito. I determined the burritos are a bit too dense for my taste, but on the plus side they now have tasty spam as an option! The variety of options at Pokemoto is excellent and you really get a lot of bang for your buck. Great drink selection as well. Will definitely return here.

This is one of my favorite places to get poke. I mean poke is poke. They're are extremely similar because well, you don't really have to cook anything. But, I always have a memorable bowl here. Extra charge for masago is a little bit much but at least they have other things like red cabbage and radishes. I just really like the toppings here, nothing appears to be missing. Correct me of I'm wrong. The proteins were fresh and towards the end of my bowl there was still plenty left. So yes, they d give you a pretty good amount of food. As they should. The Kani Salad topping is a must for me. It's practically another protein but for free. Not only that, it tastes good here and it fills you up so you're not hungry later. I know I had a good poke bowl if I'm not hungry 75% of the way through. The restaurant itself was squeaky clean. It was almost like I could see my own reflection on the floors. It was notably clean when I walked in. Everyone was super friendly, very helpful and it felt like a judgement free zone when I was picking my toppings so that's always good. I also notice how pretty my bowl is when I get it. Sometimes at other places yeah it looks colorful but not pretty. Just another thing I noticed here, my bowl was notably pretty. I guess I could say I'm getting used to eating poke. I have it so much and I've had it from almost every single poke restaurant in the upper half of CT. I'm running out of things to say and it's hard to compare them because things aren't cooked, sauces are the same and they all have different toppings. However, I notice more things here and that's why they deserve this 5-Star rating. Pokemoto of Middletown is one of the better poke places out there. They consistently make memorable poke bowls in their squeaky clean establishment while maintaining a positive attitude when interacting with customers. What more do I want other than free masago?

I'm the kind of person that doesn't like to choose ingredients at fast-casual poke spots but this place got me covered! They have a list of signature bowls and build-your-own bowls. Bowls selections are rice or salad, or if you want, you can get a poke wrap. Pick your protein, they even have chicken and tofu as options if you don't like the raw stuff. And choose mix-in, sauces, and toppings according to your flavor profile. There is plenty of meter street parking but if you can't find any, there is a pay station parking lot in the back of the building. Miso Salmon (customized with all crunch)- Salmon, sweet onions, diced mango, cilantro tossed in creamy miso and topped with garlic chips. Love this! Sweet, creamy with greens and fruity flavors. And those crunch toppings! The more crunch the better! Sesame Ginger Chicken- Chicken, sweet onions & shredded carrots tossed in sesame ginger, topped with avocado, cashews, and tempura flakes. My gf got this and she enjoyed it! Dole Whip- A must! Pineapple soft serve was fantastic! Overall Service: Cute staff! Super friendly and chill.

We decided to take a little break during our NY to RI road trip this past weekend, and stumbled upon Pokemoto in the adorable town of Middletown, Connecticut! Pokemoto is the next incarnation of a long line of Hawaiian poke-style restaurants that bring flavorful, healthy rice bowls and salads topped with sushi style fish to the masses. I have to say that besides Providence's Hometown Poke, Pokemoto might be my second favorite poke spot ever! You'll have to be "in the know" to find it, though. Even though there's a sign outside on the bustling street, it's nestled inside of this little indoor "mall", which houses a handful of cute local shops and even a coffee cafe. They were doing a holiday "sip n' shop" when we visited, so the place was quite lively with pre-December shoppers! However, the crowds didn't deter us, and we actually found the restaurant to be a calm oasis from the craziness outside. The dining area is immaculately clean, with shiny floors, plenty of seating, and aesthetically pleasing decorations. They also have a spotless bathroom, which was much appreciated after our long drive. I could see myself hanging out here and staying awhile to snack on some poke and just chill out. As for the food, it was a cut above your average poke shop, and the selection of toppings for bowls was impressive! They have the usual protein suspects: sushi tuna and sushi salmon, shrimp, grilled chicken, and tofu, but the "boringness" ends there! They have about 12 sauces, many which are made in-house. I really liked the "creamy miso" sauce - it was flavorful and packed a punch! Top your creation with everything from sliced mango to furikake seasoning (a Japanese sweet-salty spice that you won't want to miss), and you have the perfect healthful snack or lunch! I love when a restaurant offers a great Yelp perk, and Pokemoto sure does! Check in on the app, and you'll get a free serving of their Pineapple Dole Whip! It tastes just like the kind you'd get in Disney world - fruity and luscious soft serve that'll make you yearn for a tropical vacay! Don't miss out on this when you visit! The service was excellent! Our "pokerista" (it's a thing) was friendly and outgoing, and offered awesome recommendations and even let us sample some of the sauces before we decided which one to go with. I really appreciated the extra level of hospitality! I can't wait to come back next time we pass through Middletown.

Checked this place out today. It was hidden in the "mall" area downtown Middletown. At first I was really apprehensive with ordering from here. But I have it a shot and it was good. The service I received was good the food was fresh. I wouldn't give it 5 starts because I have had better Poke. But this place is great if you're on the go searching for something good to eat

Fast service. The person making my bowl was attentive and speedy, probably one of the best I've met at any pokemoto.. and I've been to several locations since they opened their first store in New Haven. The food tastes consistent between all their other locations. The location seems to be take out oriented although there was plenty of seating. Ample metered street parking. The only negative comment I have is that their dole whip machine wasn't working properly but the person helping me was very honest and didn't try to upsell a subpar product. read more

I love to go to Pokemoto. They have really good sauces like the Creamy Miso and make delicious seaweed salad. What I like best about this place is the service though, the servers are always kind and efficient. Today I went to get a Poke bowl and my server, Sophie, helped me pick out some new things to try based on what I liked already. The bowl she helped me create is so scrumptious and I so appreciate her help!! Definitely going to keep coming back here as long as I can. read more

Still amazing! We just had dinner delivered again and this place is still as awesome as ever. My son and I tried poke bowls from a place in a different town and now that I have some other perspective--Pokemoto is totally winning. Their bowls are SUPER full. Every tipping is very generous. The price just increased per bowl but the prices of everything are going up right now. I'd rather pay $2 more to have them still be super generous with their filling of the bowls. Everything still fresh, everything super tasty and our order is ALWAYS correct. Love. This. Place. It's one of our favorites. read more

Went with the hubs to check this place out. We split a Hawaiian burrito. It was very good. The owner asked us a couple of questions as we are new customers. When we were sitting eating our meal the owner thanked us for coming and gave us a free dough whip which kind of like a frozen yogurt sherbet combo which was very good. Stopped by today for a quick "light" dinner and to give it a try. Service: Prompt, no real issues there. Location: Their front "Signage" is actually on Main St, but the entrance door is inside the hallway of the building that houses other shops so it can actually be reached from the rear parking lot also. A bit confusing but figured I should note that. Food: Opted for a Large Poke Bowl 1- Brown Rice 2- (3) Scoops of protein:(2) Salmon (1) Tuna 3- Toppings: Spicy Mayo, Misago, Tobiko, Seaweed Salad, Avocado($Extra Charge$ Not an issue just a notice), and a few other things I can't recall. Pro: 1. Service was fine as it's fairly simple. 2. All my toppers were fine, everything tasted as you'd expect.- no issues here. Cons: Was excited for a Poke place in a decently busy/central area like this, but was a bit disappointed. 1. BIGGEST issue was the Fish seemed really inexpensive and almost "pasty"(texture) if that makes any sense. Being fairly well rounded in sushi, poke bowls, and raw fish dishes I think you'll know what I mean if you've tasted this before. It's almost reminiscent of fish that's been frozen and thawed one too many times(yes I know, most if not all fish has been frozen and thawed, but there is a difference). I actually do quite a bit of sushi AYCE so understanding "lower" grade fish is something I'm aware of. I feel they may be going a bit too low here. 2. I got a large BOWL and opted for the brown rice: Firstly, I think they need to keep the rice at a slightly cooler temp, it was steaming hot and just warmed everything on top INSTANTLY. Also There was just a LARGE amount of it. The bowl was about 75/80% rice. When I saw him scoop it in, I was confused as to how he would fit anything else, that's how much there was. I get it's a Large Bowl and rice is the main filler here, but it was just far too much. I'd have preferred less as there weren't enough toppings to even eat all the rice. IMO the ratio was just a bit too far off, so less would have been fine even if the amount of toppings were the same. I had rice left over and I even stirred everything to give it a decent chance, but really just far too much. I gave 3 stars as I think the spot is fairly new and 1 star wouldn't be fair as it can really ruin ratings. I hope they can step up their quality just a bit and control the ration more consistently(hopefully my dish was just an outlier) as this would be a great place for me to grab a lighter dinner at work. read more

Really enjoyed my poke bowl yesterday! It's been a while since I've had poke so I did ask for suggestions on sauce. If you like spice their chili oil is great! I got miso soup. Do not order from this place on UberEats. I tried once, they (the restaurant) cancelled after 45 minutes, I thought maybe there was an emergency. Whatever. I tried again and they did the same thing. Each time my dinner was delayed because there was hang time where I thought it was getting prepared when really nothing was happening and it was gonna get cancelled. read more

Delicious, fresh, and clean! There are so many topping options. Each poke bowl is very filling, I got salmon and ahi tuna as my 2 proteins with spicy Mayo and ponzu as my sauce. Definitely add some sesame oil too to enhance the flavor. The dole whip was delicious as well. I recommend definitely stopping by! My family and I loved it. read more

I come here at least once every two weeks and this place is amazing!!! I never tried "Prince House" down the street so I have nothing to compare it to but the fish is always fresh, the sauces are all good (Ponzu is the best), and the mix-ins are all delicious. The look of the restaurant Is so modern and extremely clean which makes you want to stay for a while. The bowls are so filling that you only really need the "regular" size to hold you over until dinner. Additionally, for only a dollar more you can upgrade to get a miso soup or dole whip which are completely addictive. If you are ever in the Middletown area and thinking about what to eat for a healthy lunch GO HERE!! read more

I love this place! The guy that rolled my wrap and took my payment was so friendly! Everything was very clean. I can't wait to go back! I had chicken with a bunch of toppings all rolled up into pretty much a massive sushi roll. I got the sauces on the side. I added a miso soup for a dollar and got a free dole whip for checking in on Yelp. It was all delicious and my coworkers are planning a trip for the whip alone! read more

This is my go-to on the way home meal. Fish is top notch, wide variety of fresh toppings and flavors, big portions. Highly recommended and a great addition to a solid Middletown food scene. Been to several poke stores and Pokemoto is definitely the tastiest and they don't mess around on the servings. The owner is really nice, after our meal he came to us and gave us a dole whip which was really good. I made a custom bowl and put a mix of salmon and tuna with a bunch of fixins and some kani salad topped with their creamy miso and it was to die for! Great addition to Main Street! read more

Inside, the place has a very casual feel and I honestly wasn't sure what we were going to get when we ordered. Just to say, looks were deceiving, but in a good way! The food was at a different (better) level than the ambience in the room. Basically, don't worry about how the place looks - you will love the food. Our waitress was sooo nice and friendly. We got our drinks quickly and ordered right away. Though we came for sushi, we were all mesmerized by the entree options and opted to try the bento boxes. I'm used to small bento boxes with tightly portioned foods and the "basics." What we got surprised us all. These bento boxes were actually huge plates of food. A full order of vegetable tempura, a whole California roll, entree, soup and gyoza. We barely made it through a quarter of it! And it was delicious! I got the chicken teriyaki and the chicken was so tender. The tempura was fried perfectly and the gyoza had a great flavor. All in all, I recommend you try this place out! Is it a fancy date night place? No. Is it a super casual date night place? Yes! Try the bento - you won't be disappointed! 4/5 stars only because they should spruce up the inside to match their amazing food!

On hearing that I had ordered the kothu parotta, the chef came out and asked me if I was from South India and said that he was Tamil from Chennai. It's refreshing to have South Indian food in the US prepared by chefs from South India, and that could explain why the food seemed authentic at Udupi. I enjoyed all the dishes, and while they're nowhere close to the South Indian food one can get in Bangalore (where I'm from) the food is significantly better than one can get in a South Indian restaurant in North Indian cities such as Delhi. The food was perfectly spiced (for me, which means that it may be spicier than usual for most other people) and flavourful. My dining partner tried the mango lassi and enjoyed it. The food was very reasonably priced. The service was neither particularly good nor bad. The woman at the counter was not very friendly but quite efficient. The restaurant appears to thrive on takeout/delivery orders, and was relatively empty. We went on a weekday, so it is possible that it gets more crowded during the weekend. The ambiance is totally charmless and food is served on paper plates. The food did take a lot of time to come out, and I'm assuming that this is because they had one chef at the time who presumably was struggling with delivery orders (UberEats and GrubHub drivers kept coming by to pick up food). I don't live in Connecticut; otherwise, I would come far more often. Overall, I recommend this place if you are in the area, but cannot speak to the quality of the North Indian food served at the restaurant.
