I'll start off by saying why I took off one star: It's not really a sit-down place. Well, they do have seats, but when it's busy, I think you'll be lucky to find a table. They have a couple outside and two inside, but it's small. This is more of a pick-up place. I feel it's also necessary to say that this is in a office park, so it may look a bit discreet when you first drive by it, but since it's in the corner and their address number of "216" can be seen. Not anything to really take a star off, but I felt it would be important to note. Now for the good things I have to say! I feel that this is one of the best places to get yourself a poke bowl that actually fills you up! Most of the other poke places I've tried around this area are skimpy and not worth the money, but this place is not one of them. The choices of protein and toppings are great and avocado comes with your bowl (!!!!). It even impressed and filled up my husband's tummy, which is pretty hard to do with all the other poke places around here. My friend and I came here for lunch today for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised. :) My friend's order: Regular size, white rice, avocado, cucumbers, imitation crab meat, 3 protein choices, etc... not sure how much she paid. My order: Large size (yes, yes, I eat a lot), half & half with brown rice and spring green mix, 5 proteins (spicy tuna, spicy salmon, salmon, octopus, shrimp), seaweed, spicy (wasn't spicy), and I paid under $12 including tax. When the guy at the register noticed I didn't order a beverage, he asked me if I'd like a cup of water, which I gladly accepted, and he poured me a cup of cucumber and lemon infused water. Yum! To my surprise, the Large was a good size, and I didn't end up finishing my bowl, so I took the rest back to work and had it for my afternoon snack, which was perfect since I eat every few hours. :) I heard this restaurant replaced Edamame restaurant. It is a corner location right when you drive in the complex driveway and it is very small. They have 1 or 2 tables inside and about 4 tables outside. I think it is a family owned restaurant and they were all very nice and soft-spoken as another reviewer mentioned. Since they're still pretty new, I think of it as a soft-opening where they're working things out and making changes as other reviewers mentioned different prices, different protein portions, etc. Since I work around the corner and this place is healthy, fast, delicious, and reasonably priced, I'll be back! :) Oh, it also helps that the owners are nice. I like supporting small establishments with nice people. Update: I went there again and I paid $13.03 for a Large bowl... Pretty good. Serve is a 2.5/5 but the poke was delicious so that's why I had to give them a 4/5. It is really fresh and i love how they mix the ingredients with the sauce separate from the rice to keep it from getting soggy. The price is average but because they add avocado I would say it is very competitive. It's my new go-to because it is right by my school so it's the perfect place to pick up lunch before heading home! The service is very sub par. They aren't really friendly or helpful. Vegetarian review. Popular lunch spot but normally not too busy when I go around (before noon). Line moves pretty quickly especially if people in front of you know what they're doing. Think chipotle or blaze pizza except for poke. Bowls come with either 3 or 5 scoops of fish/tofu/edamame. Also complimentary toppings and brown/white rice. I always get the brown rice and so far they know how to cook it. Unlike some other places that undercook it and it feels like you're chewing rocks. For your carb free people, there's salad. Then there's avocado, crab meat, onions to start. You pick your proteins. I've always done all tofu but I heard you can get adventurous and get edamame. Finally the toppings. I can't name them all but they got the usual stuff like ginger seaweed salad nori etc. my friends always tell them put everything. You can pay with card they also have Apple Pay android pay for you techies. There's free water. And minimal seating. Best to go in small groups or just take to go. This place is built like chipotle or subway in that you build your bowl by section, Here's what I ordered: Regular size bowl Half brown rice / half salad mix Tuna poke, spicy tuna poke, salmon poke (these 3 proteins are all mixed together in 3 different sauces before they place on top of your rice and salad. I ordered spicy) To that I added - small scoop of avocado, small scoop of crab, ginger, crunchy onion, and furikake. Talk about flavor explosion in my mouth!!! Soooo good! Small hole in the wall on the corner of a business park. Great for take-out as there isn't much to look at or seating, which is the only reason it's rocking a 4*. Now that they've been around awhile and are the worst kept secret, prices went up slightly, as you used to be able to sneak out of there with a bowl for under $10 out the door, but I gladly pay the sub-$11. Fresh poke bowl are typically my go-to at lunch if I wasn't able to bring my homemade food. Fairly close to my work. It's also in the business area of Irvine so pretty small, only 2 tables inside. This place is a lot better than their opposing poke restaurants around here who I won't name... Super fresh and I like how they include seaweed salad! I'm really confused about the 41/2 stars here. It's not that it's bad, it's just not very good. The price is average and it is located in a business complex, which leads me to believe that a lot of the good reviews are based on the convenience it must offer to local workers. I've been to many many poke spots in OC and I certainly don't find this one to stand out at all. I ordered 3 proteins with half sushi rice/half mixed greens and was instead given about 70% rice and 30% greens, let's work on those portions guys. The greens were thankfully fresh but I found the sushi rice to be far from even an average sushi rice, it was more gummy than anything else. The fish was also acceptably fresh but I was pretty bummed to bite into more than a few pieces of tuna and salmon that were still slightly frozen inside...yum? The "ginger" shrimp was my 3rd protein which is funny bc there was literally zero ginger flavor, honestly just say boiled or cooked like everybody else. That wasn't the only flavor lacking though, I asked for their "medium" house sauce and struggled to find any sort of flavor much less spice. I'm not a mayo person so maybe you're better off adding that to give your bowl an actual taste. I also found the house sauce very watery which caused it to just settle at the bottom of my bowl. :/ Toppings wise, there are pretty slim pickings. I always get crabmeat and much to my dismay I found a tiny fly wrapped up inside my scoop of crab after I had already eaten most of the bowl...let's hope it's the only bug I almost ingested. Almost every order I've placed online (via Grubhub or in store pick up), has always been wrong. NEVER place an online order. At least one of bowl, if not all, will be incorrect. My gf had me try this place for lunch. She came here on Monday and fell in love. I, not so much. Although I cannot deny them the quality and extended selctions, I still couldn't help but compare them to my favorite, Wow Bento. Pokenoya has a regular bowl with two fish options for $9 and some change. Wow Bento has a regular bowl with three fish options for the same price ($8.64 if you pay online). Pokenoya's staff doesn't understand what you are asking for. Wow Bento's staff does. Both places are small, but it seems like wow bento has the better organization. I also like how wow bento keeps it simple. Too many options at Pokenoya, but if you like all the sauces and toppings, this place is for you. I like to keep mine simple, bowl with my three fish, spicy, and traditional toppings. I will say I think I like this place's albacore better than wow bentos. read more

I tried this place out today as it's new to the area. I've tried several poke places in Irvine and surrounding cities and usually have poke for lunch at least once a week. In reviewing Pokenoya, excuse me for comparing it head-to-head with Wow Bento, which I consider the gold standard of the area. Pokenoya is located in a light industrial area, tucked into a small hole-in-the-wall place. It does have more seating available than Wow Bento, inside and out. The place is clean and presentable. Staff is exceedingly friendly. I ordered the large bowl. It comes with four scoops of fish and cost me $13. I opted for the white rice. The lady serving the rice kept asking me if I'd like more rice, which implies that they're flexible with the rice portion. I kept accepting her offer for more, which ended up with a very generous portion of rice. To my base, I got imitation crab. For fish, I got salmon, albacore, shrimp, and non-spicy scallops. They had more types of fish to choose from than Wow Bento, but Wow Bento's fish portion is more generous. I chose the non-spicy sauce. Pokenoya offers as much topping as you want and they have a large selection. I like my fish plain, so I skipped all toppings. Rice was good. Salmon, albacore, and shrimp tasted good, even though a bit small in portion. Scallops weren't bad, but seemed flavorless. It looks like they use a different type of scallop than other places. I think I'll choose something in lieu of the scallops next time. The sauce is usually what makes or breaks a poke bowl and I was quite satisfied with Pokenoya's non-spicy sauce, even though I do prefer the sweet tang of Wow Bento's sauce. The large bowl was filling, but unfortunately, I think this was mostly just because of the generous amount of rice. It would have been nicer to have five instead of four scoops of fish, especially when Wow Bento's large bowl is five scoops for $11. Concerning the container itself, I've got to say that Wow Bento's bowl is nicer. This one is made out of cardboard which causes the sticky rice to really stick to it. I'll probably go to this place more, but I'm definitely not going to switch to this place as my standard, even though its so much closer for me. The place was totally empty when I went in at 12:20; not a single customer there except for me. If you're familiar with Wow Bento, you'll know that the place has _never_ been empty; there's always a large line going out the door. Given that this place is very new, perhaps they're just ramping up. I do hope that they survive, because the more competition, the better for consumers. read more
