Came to celebrate my cousin's 21st birthday with all the family & friends last night and it was an amazing experience. I would like to thank the staff for letting us rent out the place and providing excellent service for all 50 of us. My uncle spent almost 15k that night! Shout out to him for hosting! The beautiful interior strikes a nice balance of upscale and coastal vibe, with a modern design that feels welcoming. We were seated by the harbor with views of the ocean and yachts. It was stunning and love the natural light coming down on us as the sun was setting. It definitely felt like a movie scene. Lowkey tip: Parking is limited so get valet next door for $6. On the preselected menu, there were appetizers and then three types of entrees to choose from. My gf got the Chilean Sea-bass, I got the Filet Mignon with risotto, and my sister got the Crispy chicken dish. Everything was a 5/5, but my meat was a bit charred on the surface. It was still medium rare just how I like it, so it's still juicy. The Sea bass was soft and tender. The meat just melts on your mouth like butter. So good.As for the drinks I got a whiskey sour and it was tasty. My gf got the sunset cocktail, which tasted like a refreshing grapefruit. We also got a couple Caymus bottles from Napa that we brought over and it was bold, a bit tarty, and very smooth to drink. I forgot how much corkage fee was though. The whole night was fun and filled with good talks and laughter. Birthday girl had fun! It was splendid, indeed. The nice woman who served our side of the table was so fast and efficient. Im just amazed by how remembers all that stuff we wanted to order without asking twice. Brain capacity is at large, lol. Service was excellent. Visited Shorebird for the first time recently. The food was okay, not the best, but I do want to visit again and give it another try...the atmosphere makes me want to love it so badly! Starting with parking, this is Newport so you need to be aware. There's an underground parking structure right to the left of the entrance (if your car is pointed towards the marina). Shorebird validates at the hostess stand, valid 2 hours. Atmosphere is great. It's clearly a more upscale (but casual enough) brunch spot on the marina. The decor is beautiful and high quality but not overly done nor overly extravagant. Can imagine the vibe leaning more formal in the evening because it does give "ocean club with the lights on" during the day. Menu items all sound and look delicious but the execution is slightly off. An example was with the lemon ricotta hot cakes - gorgeous in photos and such a great idea on flavors but they had a horrible bitter aftertaste that made them really hard to eat (about 1/4 way in I couldn't do it). Similarly the meatballs looked delicious but the meatball itself was not nearly as flavorful as it looked and sounded on the menu. Passion fruit margarita (zero proof) tasted like passion fruit flavored sparkling water. Was definitely a miss for us. Will try again and order different items, but honestly not sure another visit could make up for the disappointment and get this in my top 5. Visited for late lunch. This spot seems more brunch forward friendly/touristy. The staff was great, very attentive, and on it despite how busy they were. We got seated towards the back slightly away from the window- which was totally ok. We had the tomato and cheddar cheese grilled cheese, and also shared the jay birds chicken sandwhich which came with fries. Both were really good! The food is surprisingly good considering the location. Overall the spot can be a little loud with both younger patrons and out of town visitors. read more

Came here for a birthday celebration, and it was an amazing time right by the water in Newport! The food and drinks were absolutely superb. We ordered the miso-soy glazed salmon and the hamachi roll, both were delicious. The service was excellent, and they were super accommodating about letting us share plates. The overall vibe is fantastic, and they even have a nice little outdoor seating area where you can hang out and relax while waiting for your table. The ambiance at Shorebird was really nice. Being right on the water overlooking the boats was definitely the highlight of the experience. There's also a very close parking garage which made getting there super convenient. Food-wise, everything was just okay. We had the steak and eggs and the portion was pretty small, but the steak itself was actually really good. The chimichurri sauce was disappointing though since it was blended too smooth and more like a liquid sauce without the fresh herb texture you usually expect. The chicken and waffles were mid overall. The waffles were bland, although the chicken was decent. The blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes were also just okay. The syrup tasted a little off and the lemon flavor was way too overpowering. I prefer just a hint of lemon, but these were definitely very lemon-forward. The passion fruit drop cocktail was probably my favorite thing we ordered. Sweet but still strong... my favorite! Also really enjoyed the butter and the fresh strawberry jam. My husband and I wanted to find a fun local place to enjoy with a couple of friends and we found it in Shorebird! The vibe is very Newport and polished with high energy. The service was attentive, and we enjoyed several dishes together, including crabcakes, probably the best deviled eggs I've ever had (I'd love to know how they get them so creamy!), crispy rotisserie chicken and their pork chop. Shorebird is in a beautiful setting, right on the water and we happened to get a table right next to the boardwalk. They had a pretty comprehensive wine list as well. Came to Shorebird for brunch with my girlfriend's meetup group during OC restaurant week. The address is Newport Blvd but it's actually located on the bay behind the spaghetti factory and the crab cooker. There are parking spaces in front but they are paid parking through an app. There's also a parking structure just to the west, behind the crab cooker that parking is validated for patrons of Shorebird. I'll park there next time. Menu is brunch and lunch for the most part. We ordered the prix fixe restaurant week brunch. 2 courses plus a non alcoholic beverage for $35. I had the deviled eggs for my appetizer and the adovado and huevous for my main course. The deviled egg was rich and creamy. The main course was 2 eggs over medium on top of braised pork cooked in mild Mexican sauce and spices. It was served on a corn tortilla and came with sides of Guacamole and Pico de gallo. Everything tasted good. I also tried their bloody Mary. It was fantastic, well spiced and a generous pour. The views are wonderful on Newport harbor. Legit 5 star brunch spot! I had a reservation for 10am for Valentines, we pulled in around 9:50 and got parking right in front. We did not get seated until exactly 10 but we got a great seat outside. We got the below items breakfast burrito 4/5 great flavor but should have had more meat crab eggs benedict 5/5 made to perfection and every bite was scrumptious lemon ricotta pancakes 4/5 great flavor combination but the texture of the 2 bottom pancakes were somehow off. Came here solo for a 5:45 reservation and even though I was running late, the hostesses were warm and accommodating. I still got a beautiful table overlooking the water and boats, perfect sunset vibes. Started with a chilled Grey Goose martini with a twist... and it was so nice I had to order it twice. Clean, crisp, perfectly balanced. Paired beautifully with the dressed oysters -- fresh and generously sized. For my entrée, I had the filet mignon with mushroom risotto. The filet had a great sear on the outside and was tender and juicy inside. The risotto was savory and comforting (almost reminded me of Thanksgiving dressing) with perfectly cooked mushrooms and chives. Christian, my server, was attentive without hovering and made the experience feel polished yet relaxed. I normally skip dessert, but I treated myself to the key lime pie with what tasted like raspberry sherbet, and it was the perfect bright, refreshing finish. (Skipped the whipped cream just personal preference.) Only critique: the restrooms felt small for a restaurant of this caliber. Overall: romantic ambiance, great service, excellent martinis. Came here for a Sunday brunch with family and absolutely loved it. We had a reservation for 6 and were seated on the patio with a gorgeous marina view. Service was fantastic from our waitress, and the food very much delivered. I ordered the veggie omelette with crispy herb potatoes, sourdough toast, and a lemon aioli for dipping... chef's kiss. Got to sample a bit of everyone's plates and my clear favorite was the lemon ricotta soufflé pancakes. Insane. Honorable mentions go to the chicken and waffles(spicy) and the wagyu burger. Came here after a beautiful day whale watching. Got there around 12 and got super lucky to beat the rush! There's underground parking right next door which is so nice. Definitely make a reservation - we were lucky and there were open seats. The vibe is fancy American. Not too fancy - lots of sports on the tv and lots of people enjoying brunch. My generous portion of Chilean seabass with asparagus risotto was flavorful & well prepared. Unfortunately, the experience overall was inconsistent. The Overstuffed Bacon & Eggs lacked that distinct deviled egg flavor as described, the Catalina Roll was average. The Prime Skirt Steak looked appealing but was just average. It lacked flavor. What really left a bad impression was the issue with the seabass portions. My daughter arrived later & ordered the exact same Chilean Seabass dish, but her piece was literally about 1/3 the size of mine. We politely asked our server about the obvious difference. Eventually, a manager came out with a condescending tone insisting everything is weighed equally. The extra piece he brought out was basically the same small size as the first one my daughter received. At that point, the experience was already soured. We didn't even bother taking the extra piece or her leftovers home. My husband reserved a table here for my birthday, and it started off okay. We got our appetizers within 5 minutes, but everything went downhill after a party of 8 was seated next to us. We were already eating before they even started ordering, yet somehow they received their food first. I only ordered one Lido sushi roll and followed up multiple times, but all I kept hearing was, "It's coming." My husband completely finished his meal while I was still sitting there waiting for my food. When my roll finally arrived, it was extremely underwhelming. The sushi rice wasn't even fluffy, and the sushi itself was dry, underseasoned, and had a weird strong fishy taste that seemed off. Definitely not worth the wait. Overall, the experience was mediocre and disappointing, especially for a birthday dinner. I would not come back here and definitely would not recommend this place. It was a perfect romantic setting, where you can dress up or come casually dressed. A restaurant is tested when they are at maximum capacity and some restaurants drop their standards of food quality and service, but not here. The server made excellent recommendations and made sure we were taken care of. I ordered the sea bass with risotto and my husband ordered the pork chop, both were delicious. The balance of sweet, savory and salty worked really well with the pork. The lemon risotto & arugula salad added perfect freshness to the fish. 1st - parking, a bit of a mess. If you park on the street it is $9 for 2 hours and the cell service is poor so we found the pay machine. However, street parking fee ends at 6pm. The best option which we found out later was to park in the structure and Shorebird validates for 2 hours - a no-brainer. The ambiance is very nice with a view of the water. It did get a bit noisy as the place filled up. Happy Hour - We went early so we sat in the bar area for Happy Hour. Prices are to be expected for this area. We started with the Catalina Roll (HH price $12) and fired cauliflower also $12. The roll was a better choice. Dinner was amazing. The best part was that the wait staff was knowledgeable about Celiac Disease and the menu was marked "GF" for gluten free. The duroc pork chop and side were excellent. The sea bass was also excellent. Dessert was the key lime pie - amazing. All told with appetizers, a couple HH beers, three dinners and tip - $285, plus parking. I had mixed feelings about my experience at Shorebird. Unfortunately, the steaks were a major disappointment. I first ordered a filet mignon medium rare and it came out rare. I then ordered a ribeye, which was $70, also medium rare, and it arrived medium-well to well done. When I brought this up, the waiter blamed it on the lighting and told me this is how all of their steaks are cooked, which felt dismissive and made the situation uncomfortable. It discouraged me from even sending the steak back and my original order wasn't really acknowledged. On a positive note, the Cubano sandwich was excellent packed with flavor and easily the highlight of the meal. The Old Fashioned was well made, and while the spicy margarita was just okay, it was still drinkable. The waiter also picked up my glass early without asking me if I was done and ran away with it so fast... it still had my margarita in it. It's often hard to find a good spot to relax in the very busy and popular Balboa Island area but Shorbird is so great because of its cozy and modern California vibes and great service. I was craving a cute lunch spot by the water, so we decided to stop by Shoreline on a Tuesday afternoon (federal holiday). It wasn't too busy, and the hostess sat us immediately. We were seated outside with heaters and a gorgeous view of the marina--such a nice, relaxing vibe. Our server was super attentive the entire time, which I really appreciated. We started with the Lido Roll, and it was surprisingly good! I'm usually not a fan of crab meat, but my husband picked it and I actually enjoyed it. We also ordered the crab cakes, which I had been craving, but they were just okay-- a little too fishy for my taste and definitely needed more sauce. For mains, I ordered the chicken sandwich, which was solid and hit the spot. My husband got the Cuban, and unfortunately it had way too much going on. I'm from Florida and Cuban, so I have pretty high expectations, and this one just missed the mark. On the bright side, the onion rings were FAB and the fries were great too! After the second bite, I took a look and saw a lot of lemon rind and they must have shaved it incorrectly and got more of the white instead of just the rind. Came for brunch earlier this month which was our first time trying this restaurant. I will say the food was delicious! I had the steak and eggs and the steak couldn't have been better. This place was good for appetizers and drinks. I ordered the A5 Wagyu Meatballs and those were good with an Asian Zing taste to them. I ordered the Filet Mignon, medium temperature but was brought well done. It was accompanied by garlic risotto that was tasty but I felt they added too much bordelaise sauce and crispy onions on top of the steak that it overpowered the meat and risotto. It was suppose to be a bordelaise sauce but it tasted like a pre-packaged gravy mix. My friend ordered a Ribeye well done and they brought it out medium rare. I'm not sure if it was because we got there at 8PM and it looked pretty slow so they were ready to go but we did not want to send the food back so we just got it to go. That was honestly the highlight of the experience. After being seated, things quickly went downhill. Our server was rude, inattentive, and made us feel completely unwelcome. She rarely checked on us, yet I noticed she was much more attentive and friendly with other tables. It honestly left me feeling uncomfortable and singled out, like we didn't belong there. There was also an issue with the mimosas. My niece was told they were bottomless, but when the bill came, we were charged individually for three drinks. When I asked for clarification, the server responded rudely and claimed it only applied for a limited time--even though we had only been there about 45 minutes, and 20 of those were spent waiting for our food. Speaking of the food--it was extremely disappointing. Not only did it lack flavor, but it also made me feel physically sick shortly after. Unfortunately, our visit was pretty disappointing. My friend ordered the Crab Benedict, which looked great at first -- until she found a thick, curly hair in it. I asked the server to take it back, and they thankfully comped it. If the chefs are not wearing beard nets, please do! Service was slow, and while I was eating the chicken chilaquiles, I crunched on a pieces of cartilage . It completely turned me off from continuing to eat the meal. We also got the lemon Caesar salad and the chicken was super dry. The only thing we genuinely enjoyed were the blueberry lemon hotcakes, those were delicious (and the company I was with ) We didn't get to see the view that people rave about, so I can't speak to that.
