Service was good throughout the meal, though nothing particularly stood out. We ordered several dishes to share, including the Butter Basted Hokkaido Scallops, The Shorebird, Swordfish, Prime Skirt Steak, Prime Skirt Steak Taco Platter, Chilean Seabass, Yellowtail, and Carrot Cake. Everything was definitely on the pricier side, but the quality reflected the price for most of the meal. The only miss was the Swordfish, which was too dry for us. My personal highlights were the Prime Skirt Steak, Chilean Seabass, and The Shorebird, especially the risotto that came with it. Everything tasted high quality and well prepared. We found street parking directly in front, which was free after 6 pm. There's also an underground lot where Shorebird validates two hours of parking. We came in for Saturday morning brunch with friends and were greeted and seated pretty quickly. The restaurant itself is beautiful, especially with the views overlooking Newport Bay. Definitely a great setting for a weekend brunch. Our server was prompt, friendly, and accommodating throughout the meal. I went with the Knife & Fork Burrito and really enjoyed it. They nailed the potato to egg ratio, which I feel like breakfast burritos get wrong way too often. The salsa, guacamole, and sour cream on top all worked really well together and gave it a nice balance of flavors. It was also the perfect portion. I left satisfied without feeling like I needed to be rolled out of the restaurant. My wife got the crab eggs Benedict and really enjoyed hers as well. There is convenient underground parking on-site, though the spot gets noticeably busy after 7 PM. Both preparations were fantastic--exceptionally fresh, clean, and briny, with the dressed version bringing just the right punch of citrus and heat. Brought a friend and her family here to celebrate a milestone birthday on a Saturday afternoon. We were really hoping to sit in the patio, or at least near it but, unfortunately we were sat at a booth alongside the interior wall. Totally understandable as it's peak summer, and a weekend, they get busy. The restaurant was hot and humid. Now I'm sure they have AC, and even with all the windows and patio doors being open, they really should have opted to use the AC. The entire dining experience was uncomfortable. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view. read more

Stopped in for happy hour on a Friday in July and it was pretty quiet at 3pm. It's unfortunate happy hour is only at the inside bar, when there's such beautiful patio and view, even when it's empty, since the bar is so dark. But it's still a beautiful restaurant. The lemon Caesar salad was extremely delicious. The dressing was perfect and not overly dressed and it was a good portion for happy hour. Their sushi was also very fresh, tasty and beautifully prepared. We also ordered their espresso martinis - their presentation is beautiful but this is the second time I've gotten them here and they are just kinda of stale tasting both times. What a very pleasant surprise this place is! We had no expectations going in other than Yelp reviews and pictures. I ended up calling to make a reservation for my husband's birthday since Open Table was not letting me book a patio table. The gentleman on the phone was super helpful. We showed up and a nice patio table was ready for us. We ordered a bunch of appetizers- the avocado fries, tuna tataki and the deviled eggs. Usually restaurants ruin perfectly good deviled eggs by adding a bunch of crap in top. These were perfection. My entree was also delicious - the cubano sandwich with a side of cabbage/apple slaw. I feel like I ordered exactly right. Our server was fantastic and there were extra staff helping to keep our drinks full, I really appreciate that. At the end of the meal they brought my husband a birthday gelato. The only thing that made this dinner less than perfect was the parking situation. We parked in the lot below the restaurant but then could not figure out how to get one floor up. Better signage in the garage would have been great. Visited Shorebird for the first time recently. The food was okay, not the best, but I do want to visit again and give it another try...the atmosphere makes me want to love it so badly! Starting with parking, this is Newport so you need to be aware. There's an underground parking structure right to the left of the entrance (if your car is pointed towards the marina). Shorebird validates at the hostess stand, valid 2 hours. Atmosphere is great. It's clearly a more upscale (but casual enough) brunch spot on the marina. The decor is beautiful and high quality but not overly done nor overly extravagant. Can imagine the vibe leaning more formal in the evening because it does give "ocean club with the lights on" during the day. Menu items all sound and look delicious but the execution is slightly off. An example was with the lemon ricotta hot cakes - gorgeous in photos and such a great idea on flavors but they had a horrible bitter aftertaste that made them really hard to eat (about 1/4 way in I couldn't do it). Similarly the meatballs looked delicious but the meatball itself was not nearly as flavorful as it looked and sounded on the menu. Passion fruit margarita (zero proof) tasted like passion fruit flavored sparkling water. Was definitely a miss for us. Will try again and order different items, but honestly not sure another visit could make up for the disappointment and get this in my top 5. I would like to thank the staff for letting us rent out the place and providing excellent service for all 50 of us. My uncle spent almost 15k that night! Shout out to him for hosting! On the preselected menu, there were appetizers and then three types of entrees to choose from. My gf got the Chilean Sea-bass, I got the Filet Mignon with risotto, and my sister got the Crispy chicken dish. Everything was a 5/5, but my meat was a bit charred on the surface. It was still medium rare just how I like it, so it's still juicy. The Sea bass was soft and tender. The meat just melts on your mouth like butter. So good.As for the drinks I got a whiskey sour and it was tasty. My gf got the sunset cocktail, which tasted like a refreshing grapefruit. We also got a couple Caymus bottles from Napa that we brought over and it was bold, a bit tarty, and very smooth to drink. I forgot how much corkage fee was though. We got seated towards the back slightly away from the window- which was totally ok. The ambiance at Shorebird was really nice. Being right on the water overlooking the boats was definitely the highlight of the experience. There's also a very close parking garage which made getting there super convenient. Food-wise, everything was just okay. We had the steak and eggs and the portion was pretty small, but the steak itself was actually really good. The chimichurri sauce was disappointing though since it was blended too smooth and more like a liquid sauce without the fresh herb texture you usually expect. The chicken and waffles were mid overall. The waffles were bland, although the chicken was decent. The blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes were also just okay. The syrup tasted a little off and the lemon flavor was way too overpowering. I prefer just a hint of lemon, but these were definitely very lemon-forward. The passion fruit drop cocktail was probably my favorite thing we ordered. Sweet but still strong... my favorite! Also really enjoyed the butter and the fresh strawberry jam. The address is Newport Blvd but it's actually located on the bay behind the spaghetti factory and the crab cooker. I'll park there next time. Menu is brunch and lunch for the most part. We ordered the prix fixe restaurant week brunch. 2 courses plus a non alcoholic beverage for $35. I had the deviled eggs for my appetizer and the adovado and huevous for my main course. The deviled egg was rich and creamy. The main course was 2 eggs over medium on top of braised pork cooked in mild Mexican sauce and spices. It was served on a corn tortilla and came with sides of Guacamole and Pico de gallo. Everything tasted good. I also tried their bloody Mary. It was fantastic, well spiced and a generous pour. The views are wonderful on Newport harbor. Would have loved to sit in the sun/or by the water but was sat next to the brooms and mops in the corner of the restaurant but besides that it was fine. We had the lemon ricotta pancakes and the classic breakfast. The lemon ricotta pancake flavor was good but the texture was very gummy/chewy. My boyfriend enjoyed the classic breakfast though, but it's pretty hard to mess that one up. The potatoes were good on that dish but again, it has a very chewy texture. Came here solo for a 5:45 reservation and even though I was running late, the hostesses were warm and accommodating. I still got a beautiful table overlooking the water and boats, perfect sunset vibes. Started with a chilled Grey Goose martini with a twist... and it was so nice I had to order it twice. Clean, crisp, perfectly balanced. Paired beautifully with the dressed oysters -- fresh and generously sized. For my entrée, I had the filet mignon with mushroom risotto. The filet had a great sear on the outside and was tender and juicy inside. The risotto was savory and comforting (almost reminded me of Thanksgiving dressing) with perfectly cooked mushrooms and chives. Christian, my server, was attentive without hovering and made the experience feel polished yet relaxed. I normally skip dessert, but I treated myself to the key lime pie with what tasted like raspberry sherbet, and it was the perfect bright, refreshing finish. Definitely make a reservation - we were lucky and there were open seats. The vibe is fancy American. Not too fancy - lots of sports on the tv and lots of people enjoying brunch. I had mixed feelings about my experience at Shorebird. Unfortunately, the steaks were a major disappointment. I first ordered a filet mignon medium rare and it came out rare. I then ordered a ribeye, which was $70, also medium rare, and it arrived medium-well to well done. When I brought this up, the waiter blamed it on the lighting and told me this is how all of their steaks are cooked, which felt dismissive and made the situation uncomfortable. It discouraged me from even sending the steak back and my original order wasn't really acknowledged. On a positive note, the Cubano sandwich was excellent packed with flavor and easily the highlight of the meal. The Old Fashioned was well made, and while the spicy margarita was just okay, it was still drinkable. The waiter also picked up my glass early without asking me if I was done and ran away with it so fast... it still had my margarita in it. For a restaurant charging premium prices for steak, accuracy in cooking and better customer service are essential. read more

The receptionist responded rudely, saying, "Not sure, we're transitioning from lunch to dinner." What a wonderful restaurant, great location with a gorgeous view. A wide variety of fine dining choices, we loved the crab cakes, the tomato soup with grilled cheese, the espresso martini, the steaks. The staff is always friendly and attentive, service has been pleasant and we have come again and again since we like it so much. The staff were very friendly and it's a cute location but there were a few notes of the night regarding the food. Asides from the good drinks and mimosas the food was very mediocre tasting especially for the price point. The only thing I would really recommend are the fried avocado slices, and the sushi, nigiri. Asides from that we also ordered oysters that were too fishy and not the clean fresh taste. Our waiter was very nice and attentive which I appreciated, but it took a while to get our food as well. read more

I was craving a cute lunch spot by the water, so we decided to stop by Shoreline on a Tuesday afternoon (federal holiday). It wasn't too busy, and the hostess sat us immediately. We were seated outside with heaters and a gorgeous view of the marina--such a nice, relaxing vibe. Our server was super attentive the entire time, which I really appreciated. We started with the Lido Roll, and it was surprisingly good! I'm usually not a fan of crab meat, but my husband picked it and I actually enjoyed it. We also ordered the crab cakes, which I had been craving, but they were just okay-- a little too fishy for my taste and definitely needed more sauce. For mains, I ordered the chicken sandwich, which was solid and hit the spot. My husband got the Cuban, and unfortunately it had way too much going on. I'm from Florida and Cuban, so I have pretty high expectations, and this one just missed the mark. On the bright side, the onion rings were FAB and the fries were great too! Overall, the service and views were the highlight. Some dishes were hits, some were misses, but it's still a lovely place for a laid-back waterfront lunch. read more

Our service was very good. We wanted a view of the water and they accommodated us by putting is right on the marina with a beautiful view of several yachts. The food was fresh , flavorful, and prepared perfectly. The chicken was especially flavorful. We were very happy with all of our selections and will be back soon. read more
