Shorebird in Newport Beach is such a great spot, though service could've been a bit better and more attentive given the price point. We kicked off dinner with a round of drinks: an espresso martini with a nice touch of cinnamon, a refreshing margarita, a tall draft beer, and a tequila margarita. Everything from the bar was top-notch. The seafood was definitely the highlight. We ordered a massive spread of oysters on the half shell, both classic and dressed with ponzu, scallions, and tobiko. We also shared a fantastic salmon and avocado specialty roll, along with sashimi and crudo plates that tasted super fresh. Overall, the coastal vibe is fantastic and the food and drinks are great, but hopefully service is a bit sharper next time!

Brought a friend and her family here to celebrate a milestone birthday on a Saturday afternoon. We were really hoping to sit in the patio, or at least near it but, unfortunately we were sat at a booth alongside the interior wall. Totally understandable as it's peak summer, and a weekend, they get busy. The restaurant was hot and humid. Now I'm sure they have AC, and even with all the windows and patio doors being open, they really should have opted to use the AC. The entire dining experience was uncomfortable. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view.

Stopped in for happy hour on a Friday in July and it was pretty quiet at 3pm. It's unfortunate happy hour is only at the inside bar, when there's such beautiful patio and view, even when it's empty, since the bar is so dark. But it's still a beautiful restaurant. The lemon Caesar salad was extremely delicious. The dressing was perfect and not overly dressed and it was a good portion for happy hour. Their sushi was also very fresh, tasty and beautifully prepared. We also ordered their espresso martinis - their presentation is beautiful but this is the second time I've gotten them here and they are just kinda of stale tasting both times. It's like the espresso is old or burnt. Eh. Will have to get a different cocktail next time. Overall a good spot.

What a very pleasant surprise this place is! We had no expectations going in other than Yelp reviews and pictures. I ended up calling to make a reservation for my husband's birthday since Open Table was not letting me book a patio table. The gentleman on the phone was super helpful. We showed up and a nice patio table was ready for us. We ordered a bunch of appetizers- the avocado fries, tuna tataki and the deviled eggs. Usually restaurants ruin perfectly good deviled eggs by adding a bunch of crap in top. These were perfection. My entree was also delicious - the cubano sandwich with a side of cabbage/apple slaw. I feel like I ordered exactly right. Our server was fantastic and there were extra staff helping to keep our drinks full, I really appreciate that. At the end of the meal they brought my husband a birthday gelato. The only thing that made this dinner less than perfect was the parking situation. We parked in the lot below the restaurant but then could not figure out how to get one floor up. Better signage in the garage would have been great. Although it was nice that parking was validated.

Great evening at The Shorebird! Huge place with plenty of indoor and patio seating with beautiful bay views. SERVICE: Excellent service. Our server was super attentive and put up with our nonsense ;) She provided great suggestions for food and drinks! FOOD: As you can see, we ate a lot of different things. Our favs? Balboa roll, Salmon Mignon, and those crispy potatoes!! Great place for a group dinner or a nice date night!

Just for the overall experience, I'm willing to give it a 5 star rating. It's clean, modem, open, airy and right on the water overlooking muti million yachts when you eat, it's the best California life you can ask for. The food is definitely on the decent side, we enjoyed it! Service is standard. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time. We came in right when they open for business on a weekend morning and sat by the water. It's absolutely wonderful! I would come back next time when I'm in the area!

Came here for Mother's Day brunch and it turned out to be one of my favorite brunch experiences. 5+++ stars on all fronts: ambiance, service, food! First of all, the harbor ocean views and interior decor are absolutely beautiful and airy. Love the ambiance!! Then our waitress was just the sweetest and made the experience so pleasant and warm. Finally, the FOOD. Omg - it's hard to be impressed by brunch food because you often get the feeling that you can just make it at home. But the food here was a culinary experience not easily replicated at home. We loved everything we ordered - oysters, chicken and waffles, the breakfast burrito, my cocktail - you can't go wrong with whatever you get!

Location and views are beautiful. Service is good. Food and drinks are good. Came here on a Saturday evening for a friend's birthday dinner. She made a reservation for a table of 6, and we were sat by the water with great views. Buffalo onion rings- giant crispy, beer-battered onion rings on top of a buffalo sauce with blue cheese crumbles and tiny bits of celery. Crispy cauliflower- crispy, flavorful, so simple, but it was pure perfection. I'd get these again. Salmon carpaccio - beautiful presentation, looks and tastes like summer. Refreshing. I'd get it again. Aperol spritz - goes with the vibes of this place. Cubano - very flavorful and plentiful. Familiar, yet unique. I'd get it again. Key lime pie - I've had the best in Key West and this was comparable. The sorbet is also a refreshing palate cleanser. Brownie - decadent. Bananas Foster Split - plentiful, simple, delicious.

Came here for a birthday celebration, and it was an amazing time right by the water in Newport! The food and drinks were absolutely superb. We ordered the miso-soy glazed salmon and the hamachi roll, both were delicious. The service was excellent, and they were super accommodating about letting us share plates. The overall vibe is fantastic, and they even have a nice little outdoor seating area where you can hang out and relax while waiting for your table. Highly recommend! the vibe at night is just as good as it is for brunch!

Visited Shorebird for the first time recently. The food was okay, not the best, but I do want to visit again and give it another try...the atmosphere makes me want to love it so badly! Starting with parking, this is Newport so you need to be aware. There's an underground parking structure right to the left of the entrance (if your car is pointed towards the marina). Shorebird validates at the hostess stand, valid 2 hours. Atmosphere is great. It's clearly a more upscale (but casual enough) brunch spot on the marina. The decor is beautiful and high quality but not overly done nor overly extravagant. Can imagine the vibe leaning more formal in the evening because it does give "ocean club with the lights on" during the day. Menu items all sound and look delicious but the execution is slightly off. An example was with the lemon ricotta hot cakes - gorgeous in photos and such a great idea on flavors but they had a horrible bitter aftertaste that made them really hard to eat (about 1/4 way in I couldn't do it). Similarly the meatballs looked delicious but the meatball itself was not nearly as flavorful as it looked and sounded on the menu. Passion fruit margarita (zero proof) tasted like passion fruit flavored sparkling water. Was definitely a miss for us. Will try again and order different items, but honestly not sure another visit could make up for the disappointment and get this in my top 5. If it wasn't for the location, they would get my business once and I'd never look back...

Came to celebrate my cousin's 21st birthday with all the family & friends last night and it was an amazing experience. I would like to thank the staff for letting us rent out the place and providing excellent service for all 50 of us. My uncle spent almost 15k that night! Shout out to him for hosting! The beautiful interior strikes a nice balance of upscale and coastal vibe, with a modern design that feels welcoming. We were seated by the harbor with views of the ocean and yachts. It was stunning and love the natural light coming down on us as the sun was setting. It definitely felt like a movie scene. Lowkey tip: Parking is limited so get valet next door for $6. On the preselected menu, there were appetizers and then three types of entrees to choose from. My gf got the Chilean Sea-bass, I got the Filet Mignon with risotto, and my sister got the Crispy chicken dish. Everything was a 5/5, but my meat was a bit charred on the surface. It was still medium rare just how I like it, so it's still juicy. The Sea bass was soft and tender. The meat just melts on your mouth like butter. So good.As for the drinks I got a whiskey sour and it was tasty. My gf got the sunset cocktail, which tasted like a refreshing grapefruit. We also got a couple Caymus bottles from Napa that we brought over and it was bold, a bit tarty, and very smooth to drink. I forgot how much corkage fee was though. The whole night was fun and filled with good talks and laughter. Birthday girl had fun! It was splendid, indeed. The nice woman who served our side of the table was so fast and efficient. Im just amazed by how remembers all that stuff we wanted to order without asking twice. Brain capacity is at large, lol. Service was excellent. You guys gotta come and try if you haven't yet!

Visited for late lunch. This spot seems more brunch forward friendly/touristy. The staff was great, very attentive, and on it despite how busy they were. We got seated towards the back slightly away from the window- which was totally ok. We had the tomato and cheddar cheese grilled cheese, and also shared the jay birds chicken sandwhich which came with fries. Both were really good! The food is surprisingly good considering the location. Overall the spot can be a little loud with both younger patrons and out of town visitors.

The ambiance at Shorebird was really nice. Being right on the water overlooking the boats was definitely the highlight of the experience. There's also a very close parking garage which made getting there super convenient. Food-wise, everything was just okay. We had the steak and eggs and the portion was pretty small, but the steak itself was actually really good. The chimichurri sauce was disappointing though since it was blended too smooth and more like a liquid sauce without the fresh herb texture you usually expect. The chicken and waffles were mid overall. The waffles were bland, although the chicken was decent. The blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes were also just okay. The syrup tasted a little off and the lemon flavor was way too overpowering. I prefer just a hint of lemon, but these were definitely very lemon-forward. The passion fruit drop cocktail was probably my favorite thing we ordered. Sweet but still strong... my favorite! Also really enjoyed the butter and the fresh strawberry jam. We had a decent time and enjoyed the atmosphere, but nothing really stood out enough to put this place high on my return list.

They have a nice banquet hall that is also open to the public for weddings, receptions, and other events. The outside patio is a serene and beautiful dining area overlooking the water. Everyone was very friendly and nice. *Calamari 5/5 - The calamari was nicely seasoned, crispy on the outside, and meaty on the inside. The portion was generous. The marinara sauce also had a nice spicy kick. *Filet Mignon 3/5 - This came with filet mignon, mushrooms, fries, and coleslaw. The sauce was really sweet. I prefer my steak to be more on the savory side, so I didn't really like this dish. The fries were good. *Clam Chowder 4.5/5 - You know how in some clam chowders, the clams are so tiny you can't tell if they're really there or if they're just potato pieces? Well, not these. The clams were meaty and succulent. The chowder was overall very good, just a bit salty for me.

I loved seeing the sculpture that will be at Burning Man this year. The garden is on the smaller size for a botanical garden (some stuff was under maintenance while we were there) but the gardens were impeccable. My favorite part was all the dahlias. Stunning! Your entry ticket ($12 for adults) also includes admission to the library, which had a bonsai area and some fun history. We were able to easily find free parking nearby. All the staff was so friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the work. I definitely recommend this spot! Such a beautiful, relaxing space.

We brought our little pug as well. He had a fun time barking at all of the other four legged friends while exploring the grounds. They also had water bowls around the gardens as well as free treats for the furbabies. Lots of shade after 5pm! Overall fun experience. The tickets for Yappy Hour are a bit pricey considering how little of the gardens we got to see because of the construction. Still a fun experience seeing our little pug socialize with other dogs. Our tickets each came with a free drink voucher. They had a good selection of beers and wines. We'll definitely come back for the next Yappy Hour!

The place has limited free paring for guests, but you can park at the nearby lots for a small fee. The place is well run and clean and provides excellent views of the harbor. Service was excellent, always attentive and friendly We came for lunch and they have a weekday happy hour menu until evening which was very convenient. Their happy hour menu is great for snacks and appetizers. Highly recommend the onion ring tower. Great app to share. The Tuna tacos were average and nothing special. Their menus offer a variety of offerings primarily around seafood (duh!), but they do offer non-seafood protein options as well for those not a fan of seafood. Drinks they have a full menu and bar so feel free to order what you like I opted for an old-fashioned which was delicious, not too weak, not too strong either. For food, I went with the swordfish. As someone who eats a lot of tuna and salmon at home, when I eat out, I tend to prefer white fish. Swordfish is perfect as it has a "steak-like" preparation and very filling. This one was cooked very well, the rice pilaf has a nice flavor to it and the veggies are cooked just right. Next time I'd ask for the fruit salsa on the side as it doesn't do much for the dish. Other popular dishes our party got was the seafood pasta and definitely check out their daily specials

They have a checkin area where you can unload all your stuff as well before moving your car to the parking lot. The cottages have a microwave & a refrigerator with a sink. You can't use the stove/oven, just FYI. I did a 1 nighter in a shared cottage in November. It was cooler weather and we were in the white house upstairs. We had the loft and another party had the side room. We have no issues sharing the common space and it was fun to experience. This April, I scored a 2 night in cottage 4B on the only rainy/gloomy weekend we've had here. Of all the luck. Within 6days of reservation date, you lose 1 night stay so it was sunk cost so I went ahead and did both nights. Easy to check in and checkout. If you are down the hill, you can get a ride on the golf carts which are very nice. 2 cars overnight as well per cabin. Rooms were clean. There is no AC so be prepared depending on your weather. I wanted to leave windows open but most don't have a screen so you get bugs and I was afraid of critters coming in. (Saw it on a youtube from someone. ) Each cottage is different but great to get away. Beautiful location! SYOY!
