    Big bowl :)

Always a treat getting Pokesan when I'm in KC :) I love their friendly service and the vibes are cute. I did end up taking my food to to go but I have eaten there before and it's nice! They stuff the bowls to the max and are happy to do any customizations; for me I like my sauce on the side and it was an easy accommodation. The food is fresh and feels so healthy. Their prices seem a bit higher but honestly for what you get it's so worth it - also mine was probs more expensive cause I wanted to add on a few extras :P Thanks for a filling lunch, Pokesan! Eating a 4/5 cause it's great but it doesn't blow my mind.

The biggest issue is the restaurant and seating is on the 2nd floor with no obvious sign of accessibility accommodations. The service was great and friendly, also very quick! The food was of high quality and taste. I personally loved the shrimp dumplings, others in my party wanted a little more chili. The poke fries were AMAZING! The iced tea was not good, very watered down. Overall the food and experience was good! I would have preferred a real bowl for dining in because it was difficult to not make a mess when we got our bowls (I appreciated the amount of food they give you!). Beyond the bowl thing and not being accessible for those unable to navigate stairs, it was a great find with great food!

Stopped in for some food before walking across the street to see a show at Record Bar last weekend. Located up 2 sets of steep staircases, including one with a handrail that was almost falling off so enter at your own risk. It's very wise that they do not serve alcohol! The menu is provided with a marker to select what you want to order and to select what ingredients you desire when building a poke bowl - base, protein, mix-ins, sauces, and toppings. My cooked chicken and raw tuna on a bed of rice with 3 mix-ins ( avocado, mango and red onions) were then topped with cilantro, green onions, pickled ginger, crispy onions and tempura flakes with a sweet ginger sauce. Delicious. At $13.38 + $6 for a Vietnamese iced coffee made it a quasi-economical light dinner. I'd do it again.

Cute little place that has amazing poke bowls! I loved how you get to pick everything that goes in your bowl. The people working there were very friendly and we got our food fast. Highly recommend for lunch!

First time trying this place. Not sure if I'll return. I think there's better poke places in town. Our pokebowls were more like pokesoup. Pros: Clean place with a nice ambiance. Music is not too loud. The bowls offer a lot of topping options, sauces and proteins. You can add 5 toppings and up to 3 sauces without paying extra. The standard bowl let's you pick 2 proteins. I believe their largest allows 4. The bowls are flavorful and will make for a decent Instagram pic. Cons: The pokebowls are served in to go containers that are very small. The portion just isn't great for the price. Also makes it difficult to mix the ingredients if you load it up. QZ gives a much bigger bowl that's a better value. They overloaded our bowls with so much sauce that it was basically soup at the bottom. We had to ask for more rice which the lady was nice enough to give us. This helped make the bowl feel much more balanced but I don't think this would be an issue if they just used a bigger bowl that allows them to give us more base. We also got fried dumplings for appetizers. Not great though. Thought they were pan fried but these were fried fried. Just a little too crispy for my liking and made it tough to enjoy the pork on the inside. They're also much more difficult to pick up with chop sticks due to how hard the exterior is. In summary, it's ok but not worth the 40 bucks we spent.

I was only going to eat half my food and save the rest for later but my Poke was so good, I ate the whole thing. My food came out fast. Plenty of seating in the restaurant. The only thing is, the location is a little tricky to find and it doesn't appear to be handicap accessible. I would definitely come back here the next time I'm in town.

Got the small bowl with spicy tuna it is so fresh! 10/10 would recommend great ambience and quick service

Really enjoyed my visit. First, we were greeted by a wonderful hostess who explained the menu and ordering for us. Had the fried wontons and a poke bowl. Food came very quickly. Wontons were filled with crab. The filling wasn't real sweet, but it was tasty and the sauce added some sweetness. Cooked really well. The poke bowl was hands down one of the best I've ever had. While I saw some comments that the portions were small, I didn't experience that. I had the small and was completely full when I was done. There are plenty of ingredients, so don't short yourself. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful. The whole thing had great flavor and incredibly tasty. Overall a great visit. I'll definitely be going back.

I was visiting KC and stumble across Pokesan and it was AMAZING and FRESH! I'd recommend for lunch during the week it's a nice calm vibe, service was fast and did I mention the food was DELICIOUS!

My first time trying a poke bowl and it was great!! They definitely set the bar high for other places for me. Great options, everything thing was fresh, sauces were amazing as well. I definitely recommend giving this place a try.

    Vietnamese Pho
    Hannah D.

I came here because it was walkable in the crossroads and I figured if the pho was there, I'd get that. If not, I'd be happy with poke too (I'm just a sucker for pho). There are very steep stairs required to enter the dining area, but it's a bright and cheery room with a small bar and poke counter. Everyone working there was incredibly helpful, and the owner was very friendly. It seems like it's a family business and everything there is made with thoughtful love and care, which is wildly apparent. Bless this place!! As for the food, I did get the pho. It is seasonal, but when they have it, I would HIGHLY recommend it. I am usually partial to vegetable or chicken just due to my dietary preferences, but this is the best beef pho I've ever had. It is insanely flavorful and comes in the biggest bowl I've ever seen. I also got the dumplings to go, but I think I would have preferred them there. They were delicious, but the sauce is a little strong and the dumplings are placed in the sauce in the to-go container - I would have liked to use less sauce, personally, to taste the dumplings more.

I had Spicy BBQ Pork & Rice Cakes for my entree and asked for it to be extra spicy, a menu option, but found it rather bland, it lacked any of big bold character that I usually associate with Korean, however my experience with Korean food is rather limited especially compared to other Asian cuisines so I'll be reserving judgement on that dish. Overall great place to be, the service was top notch, and those Crab Rangoon and KFC wings were amongst the finest examples I have had of those items. Mind you, it was 90 and humid. I asked roughly how long he thought the wait would be (understanding that a time can't always be determined, but at least a rough estimate) to which he said "well I guess I can set you in the corner and you'll be right up against another table, right next to other people" with more attitude. Service was prompt and courteous, but the food was very disappointing. We were served a cucumber salad that oddly tasted like peanuts, followed by six completely flavorless meatballs--no seasoning at all, not even salt. The prices might be reasonable if the quality matched expectations, but it didn't. The contrast between the main dining room and the "other room" also felt stark and uncomfortable, as if it were a second-tier seating area. So I'm surprised it took me this long to write a review. We stopped by the River Market location last night, and one of the quickest ways to judge a place is simply to look around. There was a line of people waiting to get in and others lingering outside, happily working their way through whatever they had just ordered. That's usually a pretty good sign. A few years ago, Betty Rae's closed its shops, and there was real concern that the brand might disappear for good. Then Matt Shatto of Shatto Milk Company rode in on the proverbial white horse, revived the brand and began expanding it again. I clearly need a few more visits to work my way through the flavor options. When you first walk in, you'll see wooden blocks displaying flavors. Those are just some of the classics that are always available. The big menu behind the freezer cases is where the real decision-making begins. And if you can't decide, the staff is more than happy to let you sample your way through the case. As someone who considers chocolate chip cookies and cookie dough their own food groups, I went with the Cookie Dough. What stood out most was the texture. It was incredibly rich, dense and creamy, almost closer to frozen custard than traditional ice cream. My niece, who is a far more experienced Betty Rae's customer, swears by the Lavender and Caramel combination. I'm not sure I would have ever put those two together, which is probably another reason I need to go back. And Betty Rae's is about more than what's in the cup. The River Market shop has a comfortable, funky personality that fits the neighborhood perfectly. The servers were exceptionally friendly, and even the music is part of the experience.
