I visited the Pokeworks Fresh Meadows location (61-24 190th St) around 5:30 PM and had an extremely uncomfortable experience with the supervisor, Alex (or Alexandria), and her team. From the moment I walked in, Alex gave me a cold, hostile stare. I politely asked if the Huli Huli chicken could be torched--even though it's not standard--and she immediately cut me off with attitude, saying in a power-tripping tone, "I'm not going to authorize that." It was unnecessary and dismissive. I let it go and switched to shrimp--which is supposed to be torched--and asked that it be done before the sauce. She made an issue out of that too. One employee (Asian girl, name unknown) walked away mid-order saying, "I'm not going to deal with this," even though I remained calm and respectful the whole time. Alex then told the staff not to finish my order. I stood there ignored while my shrimp sat on the counter untouched. When I asked for Alex's name, she ignored me and tried to give a fake one until I saw her name tag. Finally, she told Bri (BRI) to finish the bowl. Bri wasn't directly rude but acted petty--burning the shrimp to a crisp, dumping excess crunch, and charging extra for green onions, which has never happened before. I paid and left with a meal I didn't enjoy and a really bad feeling. This isn't the first time Alex has acted like this--she's consistently rude and seems to enjoy using her role to be difficult. Meanwhile, the male supervisor, Steve, has always been professional and respectful. The team acted like a clique, backing each other while treating a polite customer like a problem. Loved the location in the city when it first opened up and was excited to find that they franchised near my workplace. I've been here a couple of times and was glad my poke fix was satisfied. However, I wish this location would load up on the protein when serving. Feels like every time they pack the bases more to make the bowls seem more full. Which is why it pains me to even have to post this. However yesterday's order was in short - unacceptable. I ordered a Signature Spicy Ahi bowl, and for the $3 extra added in your new Luxe Lobster protein to try it out. However when I received my bowl, & got back to my office (20 mins away by car), I found there was only TWO pieces of Lobster - one thinly sliced almost paper thin, the other a small chunk barely the size of the tip of my thumb. If this is what a customer is to expect when paying extra for an additional protein, you might as well just let them know upfront that they are throwing money away, or just donating to Pokeworks with no expected return. While $3 may not seem like a lot of money and I certainly am not expecting a whole tail, it's the principal. And.. it was a snack -_- Totally depressed on the lemonade.. Perhaps it was the Chipotle vibe; I must've ordered it thinking about the lemonades there. It was pretty watered down. The chicken, I felt was a bit dry but still ok. It's great that there is the choice of scallops! I like to create my own bowl and pretty much have them pile almost every food selection they have in there. Choose your dressing. I usually do classic with a medium amount which is perfect. If you are getting it as takeout, try to eat it within an hour or so. Any longer and the flavors/ ingredients will meld too much and muddle the freshness of the food, particularly if your order contains raw fish. Their fountain drinks are pretty nice and fresh tasting. Then you can choose between sushi rice, brown rice, quinoa, or kale noodles (at an extra cost). I tried the #4, which is a Yuzu Ponzu salmon bowl that came with cucumbers, seaweed salad, salmon, pineapples, sesame seed, scallion, cilantro, and onion crisps. I added masago (+$1), crispy onions, shredded nori, and wasabi. There's a choice of getting little, medium, or a lot of sauce in your bowl. And the restaurant itself was clean and bright. I got the regular sized Umami Ahi bowl and it was a lot of food. I absolutely love Pokeworks. I have tried other places where they sell poke bowls but this has been the best spot I have tried. They have a huge variety of toppings and seafood. My usual go to is their 2 protein bowls that have a base a rice, noodles or lettuce with spicy tuna and spicy salmon. You then have a huge selections of toppings such as seaweed salad, fruits, ginger, etc. They also have a nice variety of dressings you can put in your bowl such as sweet or spicy. The only bummer is that they now charge $1.00 more for masago which they didn't do before. I also enjoy their garlic spam musubi, it is a perfect side to eat with your poke bowl. The other thing I noticed is that their portion sizes are smaller when you order ahead of time for pick up. When I have ordered directly in the store, I noticed they are more generous with their portion size. They have a great app reward system where you can collect points every time you order ahead or in the store which go towards a free bowl. Highly recommend ! read more

Stopped in here for my first time tonight (not my first time having poke, just my first time at this spot). Employee who took my order was really nice and helpful and answered some of the questions I had (such as do the "kale noodles" have wheat in them? The answer is yes, which means they probably have a very tiny amount of actual kale in them). Good portion size for what I paid ($18) and the guy really filled up my bowl which made it worth it. Everything tasted great. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and I was full by the end of it. My only complaint is that they don't have any healthy base alternative besides lettuce (the kale noodles are not actually all that healthy for you just because they say kale, and people who can't have wheat or white rice are kinda stuck lol). I've been to other pokebowl places that have raw zucchini noodles or brown rice options (that's the only reason I docked a star from this one). Due to the pandemic, they have properly made the ordering process efficient and contactless. There are marks to ensure social distancing between customers and a screen to separate the employees from the customers as well. The staff was very friendly and service is always quick. I love customizing my own bowls and being able to choose my own toppings. Since there is a large amount of different mix-ins and toppings to choose from, each bowl is packed! They also have a variety of sauces to pick from and you can choose how much you want of it or even choose a mix of sauces. The fish quality was pretty good considering it's a fast food poké joint. They also have spam musubis but I found them to be just okay. They have a wide selection of Hawaiian drinks as well which are unique and fruity! I recommend the lychee one. My husband and I came here for the grand opening today. The line was really long. We waited as they had a great buy one get one free special. They also had a wheel that you could spin at the end. We won miso soup. The servers were really friendly and the service was really impressive for a new restaurant. This restaurant is set up like an assembly like where you can choose what you want to order: bowl, wrap, or salad and what proteins and toppings you want. It is fast food, but elevated. I have been to the location in the city too. You would never know that this place just opened. Everything ran very smoothly. The fish was very fresh and the bowls that my husband and I ordered were delicious. We also checked in on yelp and got free iced tea! The only thing we were not impressed with was the miso soup. Between pokewave (in flushing) and this place, this one definitely has more options and a larger portion but the price is higher (sushi burrito came out to 12.90$). So for the base, you have the option of choosing a bowl with ur choice of rice, a poke burrito, a salad, or kale noodles (regular noodles infused with kale). I chose the burrito and it filled me up perfectly. The outside was a little messy to eat since there's a thin layer of oil over the seaweed or maybe that was the sauce but napkins def saved me. The spicy tuna was a good amount of spicy (since I can't take spicy that well) and the salmon tasted like it was supposed to. I couldn't really taste the classic sauce (ginger sesame vinaigrette) but between the thousand ingredients I decided to add, it was probably there and I just didn't notice it. Customer service is amazing - my friends and I asked him about literally anything that we didn't know about like if the kale noodles were made entirely of kale (they're not, only infused), or what some ingredients tasted like. The aesthetic of the place was also very welcoming and casual since it is self serve and they provide water as well desserts in the fridge for you to buy later if you want (they had whole coconuts and coconut pudding that looked good). Recently, the content inside the bowl became less, and it looks like they might be skimping out on the salad. Pokeworks is my go-to for a quick poke fix because their location is convenient with ample parking and it is easy to order on yelp beforehand. Sadly for me, the last few takeout experiences have been inconsistent with the most recent one just being leagues below the first time I ever had Pokeworks and loved it. My sister and I ordered a poke bowl and a poke burrito both with two proteins. The bowl had salmon, tuna, and a bunch of other toppings over kale noodles. Personally, I don't think I'd get the noodles again as they don't really absorb any sauce. The salad and rice are better for that. I also decided to try the proteins torched and this was totally a mistake. I expected a light sear but the fish was all pretty much cooked to a medium, with very few being medium rare. At first I thought they had given me chicken by mistake! The toppings were also not fresh tasting. I was super turned off by the kani salad - super clumped up. Almost thought it was a giant piece of fish at first after mixing it into the sauce. Not light and stringy at all. The poke burrito was pretty appetizing, but was disappointed that my half of it only had one bite of shrimp, while my sister said she had a lot in hers. Also, my sister's half had all the avocado clumped at the end. Hopefully I can update my review to a better rating after my next takeout from here. read more
