3.5 stars. We were craving an AYCE and saw that they were offering it for only $20.99 per person (dinner, Monday-Thursday) so we decided to try this place. The restaurant was empty when we went on a Tuesday evening and we were seated right away. Strangely enough, the menu offers both Thai and Japanese food for the AYCE option. You place your order via the paper menu. The food is served quickly and in no time, we had all of the items we marked off on the paper menu. We ordered various sushi rolls, gyoza, edamame, kani salad, fried dumplings, popcorn shrimp, miso soup and chicken pad Thai. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the portions were kind of large for AYCE. The edamame and kani salad could be easily shared by a couple of people. And the pad Thai looked like a regular serving and not part of the AYCE menu. The popcorn shrimp was quite good. Shrimps were pretty large and cooked perfectly. The sushi was tasty although not the best quality. They charge $5 extra for sashimi and they don't give out any free scoop of ice cream like some other AYCE restaurants. The quality of the food here has gone significantly down. It was never fantastic to begin with but I went for lunch today and couldn't even finish my rolls because they tasted terrible. They were warm as if it had all been sitting out all day and the fish was not fresh at all. Leads me to believe they just don't care about presentation. I ordered take out from here twice and it is always so fresh and delicious. Their salmon sushi is extremely fresh and my daughter's Tiger Roll was really good she ate all of it. I love their packaging as they use good quality containers. My Scallop Teriyaki dinner bento box was so good. I would definitely recommend it. Everything so well cooked and packed with care. I had ordered a curry fried rice with shrimp a month or so ago and that was so delicious along with their Thai iced tea. The salmon sushi dinner was really fresh and good as well. This is my go-to sushi place and has been for about three years, however, I may need to switch it up. Tonight, I ordered two miso soups, a shrimp shumai, four pieces of ikura and a salmon, squash and cucumber hand roll. Now, regardless of whether it was 49 minutes before closing time or someone was very tired, there was really no excuse for the quality of food that I got. The shumai tasted off and like old shrimp, the roe in the ikura was all mashed up and milky looking and one of the hand rolls had a piece of "salmon" in it that was clearly WAY past its prime (see picture). Really, the only salvageable food was the miso soup. I'd rather that they call and tell me they're out: this shows that someone absolutely favors profits​ over serving quality food that won't make you sick. Needless to say, that was an expensive, and final, mistake. read more

I enjoy their Thai food here. I usually order the Curry Samosas, Beef Drunken Noodles, Rock Shrimp, and Chicken Fried Rice. The takeout portions are on the smaller side. Depending on what you order you may not have any leftovers if you're sharing with two people. That's usually the case with my hunny and I so I take an L and give him the leftovers. Skip the sauce that comes with the Chicken Samosas. It's watery and extremely bland. I've also ordered what I thought was your regular sushi but it ended up being a Sushi hand roll instead of just a roll. Certainly not happy about it because it reminded me of a snow cone. We come for the all you can eat. -They are not skimpy on their avocado, most of the special rolls have avocado which we love. -You can add sashimi to the all you can eat for a little extra. Worth it if you mainly want sashimi. They don't cut the fish into little pieces, they actually give you a decent piece for each order. -They also have noodle and other dishes included in the all you can eat. Those are like entree size, so you will end up filling up on that (just a warning.) Service - is a little slow. we always seem to be waiting around trying to get more tea. The food though is very quick once you hand in the paper with your order. read more

FOR LUNCH ORDERS: You cannot pick the sushi like everywhere else. If you try to customize your lunch sushi or sashimi orders they will try to charge an extra $5 per order. I ended up cancelling the customization and waiving the charge. As I expected, they gave out whatever was not the best quality. The sushi that was "chef choice" is just pieces that have been sitting there for the longest time and unable to be sold. The sushi tasted old and even dry. This way they can just throw out trash without losing money while customers think they're saving money by buying the lunch special. There IS the option of buying 3 rolls but when you order it online on Postmates they have a list of sushi rolls and no repeats. This is also to prevent you from ordering a lot of the same stuff. Very unhappy about the order. I hope they change their policy in the future. Never ordering from here again. read more

I've driven by Futigi a few times (it's on the corner of 164th St and 69th Ave) and I've been wanting to stop by. I was pretty far away at work so I ordered delivery. I was happy when I saw that they offered lunch specials! I opted for the 3-rolls lunch special - I got the salmon avocado roll, eel avocado roll, and shrimp tempura roll. This wasn't mentioned on the app, but this comes with miso soup. The rolls arrived a little disorganized (probably knocked around during delivery) but everything was there. I enjoyed the salmon avocado and the eel avocado roll the most. The salmon and the avocado were so fresh and the eel surprisingly did not come with tiny bones or loose scales (this is common when ordering eel at any sushi restaurant because the eel comes straight from a package precooked and it's hard to see the minuscule bones and scales under the dark sauce). The shrimp tempura roll was mediocre. The shrimp was pretty short so it didn't cover the entire length of the roll (5 pieces) so one piece I had was shrimp-less, just rice and seaweed. They drizzled a little bit of unagi sauce on it like they did with my eel avocado roll, but it was futile. The taste and texture of the shrimp tempura roll were just not hitting. It likely got cold from the 50 min delivery time so I didn't want to discredit the restaurant for that. This is getting 4 stars from me anyway because the other two rolls were fantastic and the price was good. (At the time of this review in March 2023, it's $14.50 for 3 rolls) read more

All you can eat sushi at a reasonable price. Includes specialty rolls which are quite good, and you can choose items other than sushi such as friend rice, teriyaki, edamame and much more. My only complaint is they charge you if you "waste"/ don't finish all your food. When I came in, there wasn't a warm welcome but that doesn't steer me away from trying new and different foods. The food wasn't amazing nor was it bad. Want to add: "all-you-can-eat" is great too! I've been to other "all-you-can-eat" sushi restaurants. What I did not like there was small sushi with tiny piece of fish. Kind of "going cheap" - I do not like when a restaurant goes "cheap" on me. I tip well, and expect good service and best food. Futigi is different. Their "all-you-can-eat" menu is very extensive, sushi are fresh, with nice piece of fish on them. There is also a "kitchen all-you-can-eat" menu with my favorite shrimp dim-sum :) They deserve my praise. Keep up good service, Futigi! read more

Roaches... stay away! I used to frequent Futigi loved the all you could eat Friday's but then covid hit. I guess they haven't bounced back as well as other spots. The last time I'll ever go into this place I was picking up my takeout order when a roach crawled from the sushi bar. I pointed it out to the cashier and she grabbed the roach bare handed and brought it to the back/kitchen. Ew! I'd like to start off by addressing some of the recent reviews about the "All you can eat" policy. It is standard policy in every other sushi restaurant I have been to that you eat everything you order or you pay Ala-Carte for what is left over. (Ala-Carte means you pay per piece). So going forward you should only order what you think can eat and not be wasteful. And the waiters/waitresses/chefs are not rude or standoffish. There is clearly a language barrier and they most likely feel uncomfortable about it. So be nice to them and smile. You will get a smile back. The fish here is always fresh and delicious. They accommodate any special requests you have and will make something to order. We mostly get delivery and it fast and the delivery person is pleasant. They can keep your information on file including a credit card for faster ordering. The only down side is the limited parking. Although it does seem like new owners nothing seems to have changed. Definitely try this place out. You won't regret it. read more

So for anyone who has read my reviews prior, you are well acquainted with my opinion of the food options in Fresh Meadows: bleak. With that being said, I came in here on a whim, not expecting much. However, much to my surprise, I believe I found a little gem in the area. The atmosphere is very cozy, and it is a definitely a place you and a few coworkers can go to afterwork. Their biggest selling point is that you can have unlimited sushi and they also serve alcohol, a huge plus if you ask me. I did not try their sushi, however, I tried their spicy basil shrimp and samosas which is part of their Thai cuisine menu. This dish was not over the top, but again, I was not expecting much and this dish did exceed my expectations. For 13.95, there was about a pound of shrimp cooked with green bell peppers, onions, basil and a light pink tasty sauce that came with white rice. It was not spicy at all in my opinion, but to be fair, this dish is usually not to heavy with heat in other places. Also, the samosas were handmade and came with a coconut-y sauce. Although they were good, I still prefer Indian style samosas with mint chutney sauce instead. I will definitely be coming back here soon to try out other things in the menu. Also, the staff is kind, courteous and speedy which definitely added an extra star on my review. So if you work in the area and you are not quite sure about this place, I hope my review convinces you to give them a good college try. read more

Absolutely loved it here! The interior is much like a Long Island sushi place: small, quiet and homey. The TVs were nice as I usually get bored at staring out the window while eating. The staff were very nice, and the waitress was very helpful, kind and sunny. I ordered the chicken teriyaki lunch with a salad (they let me substitute that instead of a miso soup for free) and it was great. This place is a few blocks from my house. I came for convenience and nothing more. You only come for the cheap lunch deal. 2 rolls for $6.50 and 3 rolls for $8.00! It comes with a miso soup. Anything else, you're better off somewhere else! The fish aren't exactly the fresh and your rolls fall apart. After years living in Fresh Meadows, I'm surprised they are still open. This place is never packed and there's usually one or two tables occupied. I would come as a last resort. I also thought it was funny because the owner really tried everything to spice up the place. They were trying to make it a Mexican Taco/Japanese place (odd combo), then they tried to add Thai food to the menu, and now since the corner deli closed off, they are now serving breakfast in the morning. My go-to place for Katsudon! They make really good katsudon in the area, and has really good price if you have it as lunch special. :) Their rolls are good too. Came here on a Sunday afternoon at 3PM and the place was EMPTY. That worked in my favor because the service was quick and the place was nice and quiet. I would kill for this Futigi's Ocean Roll.
