Visited Nan Xiang on a busy Saturday early afternoon. Once you enter, you can scan the QR code to enter your name and phone number and they will assign you a number. Luckily, there was only a short wait for our party of two at around 12pm...but I suspect the wait can be much longer later in the afternoon or during peak dinner times. Once your number is called, you go up some stairs to the eating/tabled area. There are tables and chairs for 2, 4 and more guests throughout the large space. The pace of the restaurant is very fast...as soon as you are seated, you are given tea and your waiter comes over right away to take any order you are ready to give. Its helpful to ask for a menu while you are waiting for a table so you know what to order when asked. We had some soup dumplings as well as a (large) soup. Everything was very good and out in about 15 minutes...very fast. The soup dumplings were great...but as expected are filled with piping hot broth so be careful when eating. They have some other appetizers and dishes available. There are also some drink options including cold teas, soft drinks and beer. Overall a great experience...despite visiting on a busy Saturday, we were in and out in about 40-45 minutes. Street parking can be tough in the area but there are a few garages around...one of the more reasonable options is the garage at the Skyview shops which currently charge about $6 for up to three (3) hours and is a short 5 minute walk away. read more

The crabmeat and pork xiao long baos were celestial! A delightful equilibrium with a tasty broth in the interior. The braised beef was also excellent. Perhaps even better because the beef was so tender. Service was good as we were seated immediately and my tea cup was never empty by the server. Place was very busy but our server was on top of us. Stopped by Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao in Flushing this past weekend and had a much better experience than the first time I came here about 7 years ago. We ordered a mix of their signature dishes: pork soup dumplings ($8.95), crab & pork soup dumplings ($9.95), and black truffle soup dumplings ($12.95). All of them came out piping hot with delicate skins and rich, flavorful broth inside. The pork was classic and satisfying, the crab added a nice sweetness, and the black truffle had a subtle earthy aroma that made it feel a bit more elevated. Definitely the highlight of the meal. For mains, we got the pan fried noodles and beef noodle soup. The noodles had a great crispy texture on the outside while still soft inside, and the flavor was savory without being too heavy. Ah I wish it was a 5 star all around review but unfortunately the food is hit or miss. If you're going for soup dumplings though, this is the spot. They have some of the best soup dumplings I've ever had they are just perfect. The rest of the food is just so so. We ordered pork soup dumplings, udon with pork, hot and sour soup and pan fried pork buns. The pork soup dumplings are 5/5. Perhaps the best I've ever had. They are very very good. Perfect wrapper, perfect soup filling and great pork flavor. You can't go wrong - this is their star dish and what they're known for. Get these. The udon was a 2/5. Cooked well and served with sliced pork and bok choy. The portion was massive. Unfortunately it was completely bland. Just stir fried in oil. I couldn't taste salt or any sort of umami flavors - mushroom, chicken, pork, nothing. Just oiled noodles bitter bok choy and unseasoned pork slices. I threw some of the dumpling sauce on top so we could at least eat it. Really a shame because the portion and preparation are both fine but there is just no flavor. The hot and sour soup is a 3/5. Good. Average. Nothing to write home about. Fits the bill if you want this. The pan fried pork dumplings are also a 3/5. I felt like the inside was WAY greasier than I bargained for and these dripped all over the place when I tried biting in. They are cooked well and the flavor is not bad. The one thing I couldn't get past is how sweet the dough is. I felt like I was eating a dessert. Maybe this is just how they are made here but the sweet sesame flavor in the dough was so overpowering I felt like I was eating a meatball in a dessert dough. Not bad and the flavors worked together well but the sweetness was too much for me. Overall I'm still going to give them a four because of how solid the soup dumplings are. My recommendation is to focus on what they do best and just get lots of their soup dumplings. Xiao long bao are large and the dough is perfect thickness and texture! This is where I learned I had eaten soup dumplings the wrong way the entire time. You're supposed to bite into the twisted tip, and suck out the soup from the top so that it doesn't spill haha. Soup dumplings - gets very busy at lunch, Shanghainese specialty, and they have a variety of styles. Including a mixed 6-type steamer if you want to try the major ones! Their crab and pork had just a little crab, disappointed at that, but still a solid amount of soup. Soy milk and a youtiao (fried cruller) were good, and the wine chicken was excellent. Melon green tea was also a nice refreshing touch and good chewy jelly at the bottom without being too sweet. They didn't rush us out even with the line of people, so good service from that perspective, and refilled tea on a timely basis. Bathrooms crowded, though, and the restaurant seating is second level, so take the stairs or go around the outside of the mall to see if they have an elevator at the hotel or similar to get to the second floor entry if you are handicapped. This continues to be my favorite Shanghainese restaurant in Flushing. Went here with my daughter this weekend and ordered a lot of dishes. The table they gave us was just for 2 people and was so tiny that all the plates did not fit the table. Ordered the abalone soup dumplings and they cracked when I tried to pick them up so the soup ended up spilling everywhere. It was still very good though. I thought they had rice but they did not have any so I ended up getting the Shanghai stir fried udon and chicken fried udon noodles. It was a lot in each dish! The fried udon was very sweet, thick, and soft! Loved it so much! The place was very crowded and mostly families and large groups went there. The first floor had a koi tank that was very lovely. My daughter couldn't keep her eyes off the koi. There were different colors of koi that were so beautiful. The first floor also had a large tree with trunks of leaves making the first floor very beautiful to hang out while waiting for a table. The service here is exactly what you expect from a Flushing spot. Nothing overly attentive, nothing special in that department. The vibe is straightforward: get in, get your food, get your check, get out. The check comes taped to your table almost as fast as the food does. That is just how it goes around here and honestly there is nothing wrong with that. The food moves fast and that is the whole point. The orange chicken was pretty good. Nice flavor, crunchy, not too heavy on the sauce but enough to know it is there. The soup dumplings were the standout of the meal. Massive, juicy, and tasty in the way that good soup dumplings are supposed to be. Wifey got the Shanghai stir fry noodles and those held up well too. Good flavor, thin strips of meat, though a little light on the protein side. We had a lychee drink with tapioca balls that I have had before and still enjoy. The white rice was solid for what it is. The shumai, though, was just okay. Nothing that made an impression one way or the other. This is a Michelin recommended spot and the meal was decent. Normally I go to the one in Westbury, even though I've passed this location in Flushing multiple times. Tonight I finally came in since they're open until 12 pm. I definitely give it a 10/10.They have a bigger drink selection, the service was kind, and everything came out fast, fresh, and most importantly HOT. Delicious soup dumplings! My favorite is either the black truffle pork soup dumplings or the crab/pork meat, I'm always a fan of crab meat soup dumplings. The outer edges are crisp, but with each bite you get fresh steaming meat and a good amount of soup. When we went there is a long queue, but you put your number in the kiosk and the table turnaround is relatively quick. We waited maybe around half an hour and this was at 8pm. Inside is clean, spacious, and the ordering process is very easy and with fast service. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get too, so all in all I would definitely recommend this spot to try! read more

Especially this cabbage type chili oil pickled salad, I'm assuming, which was just absolutely different than I've ever had before but the way we eat the food that we got was almost like Korean style barbecue. First, you gotta get this thin oval rice paper, and you put the roasted duck in there with some veggies and then a little bit of duck sauce and some little sprinkle of sugar and it is just an explosion in your mouth like I've never had before. Saturday afternoon is a busy time so I scanned QR code to get on waitlist. While there were 12 parties ahead of us, the wait was no longer than 20 minutes. Upon entry, lot of people waiting in the lobby waiting for their number to be called. The restaurant is furnished with wooden furniture and modern Asian restaurant feel. As soon as our number was called we were seated and tea was immediately brought to us. Familiar with the menu we decided to order seafood pan fried noodles, definitely crab pork soup dumplings, and new to the menu, sweet sticky ribs. The pan fried noodles and ribs were quickly delivered and piping bug hot. The ribs were sticky soy sweet sprinkled with sesame seeds. The meat almost fall off the bone with nice chew. The pan fried noodles, always a favorite, was filled with a coat sauce with plenty of fish, shrimp, & Kim Jo scallops. The soup dumpling took awhile but it came piping hot and the soup overflowing as you bite into them. So deliciously good! Our waiter was helpful and checked frequently and filled our tea cups. This is one of my go-to places for XLB (soup dumplings). They've upgraded to this location, which is just a few doors down from their original shop. This is larger and has a high ceiling. I actually had DTF (Din Tai Fung) at their London location in Selfridges two nights ago and decided to try it again. I ordered their regular XLB and noted the following: - The size is larger than I remembered. - The skin is thin. - The soup is plentiful and clear. - The meat is well-prepared. Overall, it's still my favorite spot, now in a more spacious environment. I visited at 10:30 AM, and they weren't busy at all. My mom and I usually go to spot whenever we are in flushing. They have a Michelin star and they are super affordable. I was happy to see them add more vegetarian friendly options as before it used to be a lot of pork and I don't eat pork. They ambiance is always so nice and they always get the food out quick. The complementary tea is always a nice touch. I will say personally I prefer the dumplings from the people selling them on the corner of Roosevelt and Main Street (and they're cheaper) because the veggie soup dumplings lacked flavor. They could have used some garlic or onions or something. I also noticed they did have some water damage on their ceiling that seems so have went neglected and the mold really got to me and I ended up having an asthma attack.
