We dined at Polanco Kitchen & Bar during our stay at the Hilton hotel. We ordered the American breakfast platter & chilaquiles, overall our food quality was great and had a good taste to it. They also do offer a breakfast buffet style option where you pay about $28 per person and it includes multiple cold and hot items to choose from. The service was fairly all quick from start to finish, I did order hard boiled eggs so staff did give me a heads up that my meal would take a bit longer. The ambiance itself was nice, not too crowded or loud, we sat at a booth that had a personal TV. Overall we had a good experience and the food was very tasty! read more

This restaurant is located in the hotel I stayed in for a conference. I decided to grab lunch - what a mistake. I checked in on Yelp and a coupon came up. After waiting about 20 mins for my to-go food order, I got my food and my check came out shortly after. I showed the cashier the coupon and he said he had never seen it before, didn't know what it was, and that I needed to speak to the manager about it. The manager was busy assisting a large group. In frustration, I paid and left to eat. I returned to speak with the manager after eating. The manager listened to my complaint, told me he would honor the coupon, then told someone else to help me. I was told that the restaurant has been trying to get the coupon removed from Yelp for 3 years. I let the person know that they shouldn't make it the customer's problem. The person I was passed to didn't refund me for the coupon and instead gave me a drink coupon that I could not use. The food was just okay. Definitely not with $18 for 8 wings. I added the chicken breast and it was cooked perfectly- juicy and tender! I took off one star because the service was really slow- but they were friendly. I also acknowledge that I came at the very end of the lunch period (2:45pm) so that could have been a factor. Definitely worth coming back to try other options! read more

I typically avoid hotel restaurants and go off the beaten path, but this morning I did not have time for anything else. I must say that I was pretty impressed here. The coffee was fresh and hot. For my meal I ordered off the menu so I cannot comment on the buffet. I ordered the TJ Benedict (eggs benedict with carnitas instead of ham) . The carnitas were fresh and flavorful and the eggs cooked perfectly. I will say that, although the chipotle hollandaise had a great flavor, it was a little thick for my liking. The potatoes on the side were crisp, hot, fresh and seasoned perfectly. The waitress was a little scattered and forgot my salsa, but she was friendly and was trying. While staying at the Hilton I had breakfast here 2 mornings and for being a "hotel restaurant" it definitely beat that stigma and was very good. Rachel was extremely friendly and helpful both mornings. I'm not the happiest person in the morning but somehow Rachel never stopped smiling which in an unexpected way got my day off to a great start. I strongly recommend the full buffet. Both days the special eggs were delicious(essentially a cheesy scramble with some sautéed veggies). A massive pile of bacon is enough to justify the $18ish price tag. Never really tried much on the buffet other than the pineapple, eggs, bacon and poppyseed loaf but they were all delicious so I can not complain. Coffee was solid as well. Surprisingly good. This Hilton restaurant/bar was a huge let down. First, they close at 11 on the nose. Should your flight be a late one, you're out of luck. Second, the service on a Saturday morning was non existent and then poor. We sat ourselves at the bar since no one was there to seat us. When someone finally came over, it was clear it was out of pity and not her job. She offered us water and said the bartender would return soon. Another ten minutes passed and he wasn't anywhere to be found. She came back and took our breakfast order. After coffee was brought to us, the bartender finally showed up. Thirty plus minutes later our breakfast orders came out. Mind you, there wasn't anyone else waiting for meals. My omelette was so burned it was nearly inedible. The only reason I didn't immediately send it back was because it took them 45 minutes to bring this hot mess out and we had a wedding to get to. The bill was dropped off and then the bartender disappeared again... so we had to wait even longer to pay for this nonsense. Hard. Pass. read more

Sometimes deciding to eat on property at a hotel can be a disaster in the making. Restaurants conveniently located at hotels (for the most part) are generally not that good in my opinion, unless of course you are in Vegas or New York. I was satisfied with the meal here despite the service being a little slow. The food was good and the ambiance was quiet and tranquil enough for being located off the main lobby. When and if I stay at the Hilton Mission Valley (where this restaurant is located) I will be sure to stop again. Check out the wings ~ simply delicious. read more

I'm here for a medical conference which makes dining here a once in a lifetime opportunity. After reading the reviews I was expecting more, but ended up being greatly disappointed. I actually stopped by twice today, once for a quick snack, and then later for a light dinner. My snack was the House Guacamole with fried flour tortillas. The guacamole was flat, it really needed salt and lime. I really wish I had taken a picture of the guacamole since it was slightly oxidized (meaning brown). The fresh fried tortilla chips were decent. The biggest disappointment though was I couldn't enjoy a local draft beer, as their system's refrigeration was on the fritz. So instead I had a glass of white wine with the guac. I was so looking forward to trying all of their local craft beers on tap...yuppers very disappointing. Also their wine selection is lacking.. too many Chardonnays, but no Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris. I love ceviche and eat it often (2 - 4 times per month), and for dinner I decided I wanted to try their's, so I ordered the mixed fish and shrimp ceviche. Again I was greatly disappointed; 1st the shrimp were good as long as you allowed the liquid to drain (we'll get to that); 2nd the fish was dry and tough, which means either the fish was old or they cooked it prior to adding it to the acid (lime juice base) to chemically cook. My impression is that they poached / boiled the fish first; 3rd the acid base had way too much salt... I had to let everything drain prior to eating. I also had a bowl of their Chichen Tortilla Soup... killer, spot on, and definitely not for the faint of heart (or tongue)!!! Very flavorful with a definite after burn that just leaves you wanting more. One of the best if not the best Chicken Tortilla soups I have ever had. One thing I would add is a dollop of Mexican Crème on top to add that cooling creaminess to compliment the heat. read more

Final night here, tried the steak. It is listed as a New York Striploin...and it's a reasonably sized serving. The steak: perfectly done. Not the best, but very good. The sauce: the Chipotle sauce complemented the dish, including the cornbread. The cornbread: the Jalapeno Cornbread is the starch and worked well with the rest of the dish. Service 8/10 Food 9/10 Price 5/10 This restaurant is in the Hilton, so I was not expecting any sort of extraordinary dining experience. I was pleasantly surprised...mostly. The food was actually really good. The beet salad was one of the best I've ever had. Red and yellow beets were cooked perfectly, goat cheese mousse was flavorful, smooth, and not overpowering. Frisée was lightly dressed, and toasted and seasoned pumpkin seeds were a nice touch. Cubano sandwich and fish tacos were equally exceptional. Dessert was absolute garbage. I ordered a creme brûlée and it was over cooked at way too high a temperature. I was shocked that it was even possible a creme brûlée could be that bad. Told the server, didn't eat it, and yet there it was on our bill. Wtf. Aside from the dessert appearing on our bill (it was only $8, but for how unbelievably bad it was, GP rules here), the service was good. Also, and I know I was in a hotel bar, a Manhattan was $16. It seemed a little light tho. Overall a good experience, and I'd go back for the food and service. Have drinks and dessert elsewhere. read more

I had a short rib empanada to start with and it was filled with meat warmly embraced by a wonderful corn meal shell topped with cabbage, radish slices and a bright sauce. Thumbs up on this one! I then ordered a Polanco Burger and it came with chile-lime frys, one of must try menu items. Great burger cooked perfectly. The cocktail: Paseo del something (not sure what out was called) . It was nice and refreshing. Now on my favorite cocktail list. I asked for serrano peppers to spice it up and they entertained my request. Service was outstanding. My waitress keep checking in to make sure my meal and dining experience was on the up and up. I am going to add the restaurant staff to my Christmas cookie list. read more

So far service is good - place is empty but it's Monday. First course chili limon fries- in a word - dear god what is that monstrosity. Ok drama out of the way - they over way way over salted with a hint of chili and lime (if there is lime it's buried in the salt mine that is the fries), they are commercial fries - and the banana ketchup advertised? Yea try a Small bowl of hunts. Do not bother with the chili limon frys they suck. Next up braised pork shoulder with plantains and tomatillo sauce. The waitress warned me they are fatty, but - the balance of fat to meat was perfect. What this entree was is diametrically opposed to the chili fry abomination. First the plantains. Perfectly fried, sweet and creamy interior - hot all the way through. The cilantro rice rates in the top two I've ever had. The rice itself, a long grain rice, was cooked exactly right - which is hard to do. The light hint of lime, infused with chopped and whole cilantro made it to my top 2 cilantro rice. Corn tortillas - don't know if they were home made but , they we're from white corn, thick and high yum factor. On to the carnitas as earlier mentioned a bit fatty but the fat content was perfect and had melted into the meat keep it moist. Overall a five out of five on the entree. One final point about the plate and the unholy Union of a salt mine and potato as well as the plantain has given me a great idea for a plantain appetizer or desert - we'll see. P.S. If the kitchen of the Hilton reads this, "86" the fries - they are a shame to your kitchen. read more

We stayed at the Hilton and were pleasantly surprised by the upscale Mexican influenced menu of this onsite restaurant. We arrived late for check in and missed in-room dining service which last call is 15min before closing, however calling direct they were nice enough to make me a dessert and milkshake at 10:55pm for me to come down and pick up which turned out better as it saved me the delivery charge and in room dining charge. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food. We had a very good cheesecake with a berry compote and a horchata milkshake that tasted more like a vanilla frappe, but good as well. Bar servers were friendly. Nice trendy, relaxed atmosphere they had larger tables for groups up to 8 and more cozy tables that were more intimate. Bar had a good TV for watching sports. Just wish we were staying longer to try out the rest of the menu. read more

I had three different meals here over 4 days. First meal we ordered queso fundido, empanda, and chicken enchilada. The queso and chorizo was excellent. The empanda was kind of small for the price, it was also kind of bland. My friends' both ordered chicken enchiladas. Neither of them ate much of these because they were lackluster to say the least. Kind of a muddy combination of flavors. Second meal was breakfast. I ordered two scrambled eggs, country link sausage, potatoes, and an English muffin. The eggs were awful. Potatoes were very nice. Sausage was also just ok. Third meal was breakfast again. This time I ordered the French toast. These were fabulous! read more
