There are not many restaurants within walking distance on Hotel Circle in San Diego's Old Town area, so we found ourselves at Crust Kitchen. The decor is 1960s and feels old and tired. Although a sign says 'wait to be seated,' we waited quite a while before we were waved up to a counter where we ordered. Our food was brought to the table, but no drink refills were offered and no check was brought to us, so we finally went to the counter to pay. In short, service was minimal. There were a few vegetarian options and we got the vegetarian burger with fries which were about $16 each. The burgers were black bean and tasted fine but not special. The fries were fine. So if you are at one of the nearby hotels, this place is reasonably priced and ok, but not worth going out of your way to find. read more

Really good, chill and modern location right on the boulevard of Hotel Circle. We got Pizza last night (Deluxe) with the Pear & Gorganzola Salad Greens, which was phenomenal. We decided to come back for breakfast due to the look, vibe and food preparation. Come breakfast morning, we arrived early and a few customers were already eating. Located on Hotel Cir by Atwood Hotel along Interstate 8. Plenty of parking and near many hotels. I came here because I wanted a good Angus Burger, but this place has such a big variety of food items such as 'Pizza, pasta, sandwiches, burgers, breakfast, and dinner plates'. I tried their 'Crust Burger' which is served with fries. The burger was delicious! The bun was perfectly toasted on the outside yet soft inside. Their fries are so yummy, seasoned just right. For dessert, I had their 'Carrot Cake' which went perfectly with my meal. That was one of the best carrot cakes I've ever had. The restaurant is clean with a good atmosphere. Full bar with happy hour from 2 pm to 6 pm. I ordered To-Go and waited about 20 minutes for my meal. Service was great. Shout out to 'Brenda' who was very welcoming and friendly. Walked in to a wonderful Saturday brunch experience with the most wonderful server ever - shout out to Vera and her absolutely gracious and welcoming personality! We had the Mediterranean Omelette, Two Eggs and Sausage and the Agave Cream Soda. The meals were generously portioned with great flavors and fair pricing. We loved the retro modern vibe in the bright space. Vera checked in on us often with a bright sunny smile and topped up our soda and coffee, always checking if we needed anything else. For our last night, we had reservations at a fancy rooftop restaurant overlooking the ocean... but after spending the entire day AT the ocean and being absolutely exhausted, we decided to just walk to CRUST KITCHEN which was adjacent to our hotel. It was PERFECT for us! Our friendly server gave some recommendations and we ordered two of them, definitely pleased with the decisions. Hubby had a lemon chicken and I went with the Paris burger. The flavorful piccata-esque sauce was on the side and I used it to dip his unwanted vegetables. (Haha) They were nicely cooked, soft enough, but still had an al dente bite to them. He enjoyed every bit of his chicken which he declared tender and well seasoned. My Paris burger was perfect! Cooked medium well, brioche bun, caramelized, onions, mushrooms and Gruyère cheese all deliciously worked together. I thought it would need some kind of green to cut the fat, but somehow, it didn't taste greasy at all. The fries were crispy and the beers were cold. I ordered the corner beef eggs benedict and it was great portion size, flavor but two thing that didn't sit well. The eggs were supposed to be over medium but they were fully cooked instead. The amount of oil on the bottom of the plate was obscene. I tilted the plate to pool on a corner and I used four napkin to soak up most of it. Service is amazing, location for me is great. Listen, I know they probably want you to upgrade your side to fries or tots, but they make the best house made kettle chips I've ever had in my life. I want a Costco sized bag to take home. The ambiance is very clean and retro, which I enjoyed. Service was quick and friendly. We started with the mac n cheese fries, and that was a solid choice. They were perfectly creamy, the fries themselves were good, and there was a generous smattering of smoky, crispy bacon. I got the pastrami and it was EASILY two meals, even if we hadn't gotten an appetizer. The meat was well seasoned and not fatty, and it was good straight out of my hotel fridge the next morning. My roommate got the tri tip Philly sandwich and she really enjoyed it. She said that was also good cold the next morning. I'd definitely come here again when I'm in the area. read more

We stayed at Courtyard Marriot for a quick weekend in SD and needed a quick breakfast. Everywhere I called had a long wait so just decided to go to a place that's near. They have mixed reviews but we gave it a shot. There was no wait but there are people constantly arriving. Took a while before we were acknowledged since she's the only one but gave us a huge smile when she greeted us. Vera seated us right away and was pleasant when she took our orders. I tried the corned beef eggs benedict (dunno why I had it over med but lesson learned) it was good amd not shredded like I expected but I liked it better sliced. Hubby got the chicken and waffles. The waffles are not the usual too crunchy/hard to chew but soft and reminds me of a waffle dog consistency. A few friends and I swung by here for lunch one day. One of my friends brought her lunch from home and the staff were super nice about allowing her to eat. They made sure to let her know she didn't have to hide it and it was okay that she ate it in the open. This showed me that they are super chill and understanding. The ambiance was chill, wasn't busy at all. We went around 12:30p on a week day. I ordered a Paris Burger. It was DELICIOUS. I brought my leftovers home it still tasted good being warmed up in the oven at home. My friend ordered the Tri Tip Philly. She said she really enjoyed it. My friend ordered coffee and said that was good too. The menu had so much variety. They had breakfast foods in the afternoon which I love. The service was great, which always makes a difference. First off, the hours are not accurate on Yelp! I spoke to the family owner, and they open at 9 am temporarily. Normally, it is 7am. The restaurant is doing meals for veterans in the mornings for a short time period. Upon entering this really nice family owned restaurant, I was immediately greeted by one of the family owners. I was getting my food to go, and he was very patient while I decided. Their inside dining is very clean and quaint. Music is done perfectly! I hate restaurants that blare their music as if it is a nightclub. This music was a nice touch and loud enough for mild background ambiance. I got the 2 eggs with sausage, a side of fruit, and a side of avocados. The sides were only $1.89 each, I believe! Unfortunately, they forgot to give me the avocados. The eggs were tasty, fluffy, and not runny... perfect! The potatoes with peppers that came with my eggs were delicious. My side of fruit was fresh and tasty, but it would have been better with more variety than cantaloupe and honeydew. I got my wife a breakfast burrito with bacon. It came with tater tots! The burrito was huge. You can easily split it. She loved the burrito and didn't make it through half! Overall, the service was great other than my missing avocados. The restaurant is decorated very modern. It's very clean and spacious inside. Seems they specialized in brunch but they also offer a wide variety of dinner entrees options. We ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, chicken Alfredo pasta, bbq chicken pizza and buffalo chicken pizza on gluten free crust ($2 extra). The food was average, way too much bbq sauce on the bbq chicken pizza. I think it's because they don't put on many toppings and tried to disguise that by loading on a ton of sauce. I showed my server my Yelp check in for a free soda but was told they do not accept any coupons or discounts. I'm not sure what happened but towards the end of our meal when I went to the restroom to wash my hands, my husband told me they "felt bad" and gave us a free soda. We ordered a medium pepperoni pizza with extra pepperoni and a side of tater tots. The pizza was decent for a thin crust, but it was a bit too oily for my taste. The tater tots, however, were perfect, especially with the cilantro ranch dipping sauce. We'll definitely check this place out again next year and try other items on the menu. read more
