We decided it was operationally functional (and safe) but being temperamental. Switching out for a new Heat Pump system this spring so opted to not repair at this time (ain't broke, don't fix). I came home last night from SanFrancisco and I still have no heat. It's been a week tomorrow. We have had technicians out 8 to 10 times in the last two year, just during the winter months because we don't run the furnace unless it's cold. The loud machine gun noise had only been fixed for a day or two and always returns. I am sure you understand my frustration. When Alex came last week to address the noise, the furnace completely stopped coming on the next day. He has been out two time since and we still have no heat. I'm glad I got your attention and I'm hoping you will fix the furnace today. I will update this review further if Polar Bear is able to repair my nightmare furnace:-). read more

I know it's a bit delayed, but I had a spare moment and haven't forgotten the superb service Polar Bear Heating and AC gave my family and I. We purchased an AC Unit, Furnace, Nest Thermostat, and had our ducting re-done from Polar Bear. Vanessa, (The Owner) was one of the easiest people ever to interact with and obtain a quote. She's knowledgeable, priced very competitively, and was prompt for our appointment. The whole Polar Bear team was polite and patient from beginning to end. They answered a variety of questions and proposed a Maytag Unit that was one of the strongest in its class, but emits the lowest levels of sound since our unit is placed beneath our master bedroom. I highly recommend contacting them. I rarely write reviews, but they're well deserving. We waited 4 years before getting AC and I did plenty of research prior. I don't know why it took me so long to write this review I had called a bunch of different AC companies because our condenser fan wasn't starting every time. We had someone come in and swap the capacitor. A few weeks later same problem. Finally I got a recommendation for Polar Bear. They were able to come out 2 days later (The was before the summer). Carl immediately found that our new capacitor was bad- because there were two more installed. One was a hard start capacitor. Carl said we were providing way TOO MUCH power to the condenser and that's why it was having surging sounds when it did start. Too much power. Imagine that. Do NOT USE this company. I used them twice. The first time was for a condenser and heating unit. The tenant called and said it wasn't working the next day. I called the company, and they sent a very capable man who told me it had been installed incorrectly, and he proceeded to fix the problem. I decided to use them again last year. I had a new heater installed. They sent a kid who was related to the owner. A year later, the system didn't work, and it was from the heater being installed improperly. The owner refused to repair the heater, and I had to buy a new one for over $3000. read more

5 Homes Installed !!! I'm a Realtor in Carlsbad California about 60 miles south of Polar Bears main office. One of my best friends that lives near Polar Bear had his home installed with a new furnace and AC and RAVED about Vanessa (owner) and her company. He encouraged me to get a quote to have a new furnace and AC installed in my home. It was so easy, I emailed a few photos of my furnace and the side of my home and within an hour Vanessa emailed me a detailed quote for a complete installation. It was 40% LESS than the best quote I had received. 40% LESS !!!! Anyway, Vanessa's crew arrived on time and made the install which took just under two days. We couldn't be happier! It is fantastic and we love how it has improved our quality of life. Next, I recommended Polar Bear Air to numerous neighbors, friends and clients and to date at least five have installed new furnaces and AC with Vanessa. Had this company install a new AC unit in 2019. Had a couple hiccups bringinging new equipment into a house built in the late 80's but everything they got everything worked out and they were understanding and pleasant during the install. Plus, whenever I reached out they had a quick response time. Fast forward to 2022 when the AC stopped cooling, reached out and they had a tech come on the day/time I requested, fixed it quickly (something with a fuse failing) and didn't charge me a dime! Polar Bear has been absolutely the worst installation & service company I have experienced in my 50 years of owning a home they made numerous errors during installation. First the outlets the house upstairs were not working upon completion of air conditioning installation. They had to come back the next day and still one plug upstairs didn't work upstairs. The air conditioning installation was in summer, so a few months later I went to turn on my oven and it didn't work. I called my home warranty company they said the 220V was not working they wanted to pull it out that cost was $75. Then I had the oven checked out from a local appliance repair he saidthe oven was not broken, but didn't have power. I called Polar Bear who came out fixed the 220V so the oven worked and suddenly my plug upstairs worked. Polar Bear had disconnected the oven, but didn't reimburse for the warranty charge $75. Polar Bear said "why didn't you call us first?" My question was why would I call the air conditioning company when my oven wasn't working as my first thought was the oven is broken? My heater stopped working and I contacted the home warranty company. The heating electrician said the pump for the air conditioner must have failed. It turned off the heater. He disconnected the pump and the heater worked the licensed contractor, who did the furnace service, said the pump may be faulty and suggested I call the air conditioning contractor as they can replace the pump under warranty. I called Polar Bear to replace the pump who said they would be out right away, but failed to schedule. Two months passed no effort to contact me. Finally the service call with Polar Bear was scheduled and the technician showed up 1 1/2 hour late. I had an appointment and had to reschedule. I asked for another technician who came to do the service this week. The pump was wired wrong and Polar Bear said the heater wouldn't have worked and "why didn't you call us first?" as they would not reimburse me for the home warranty service call. My question is why would I call for air conditioning repair for my furnace? The work was not done correctly plus Polar Bear didn't stand behind the installation read more

This review is a little delayed, but I feel it is necessary. I had Polar Bear come and replace all my ducts when I first purchased my home in 2016, which is not cheap. The owner was nice enough and the technician that came out was pleasant. He replaced my ducts and all seemed well. At the same time I had my AV contractor at my house running some cables up in my attic. After the HVAC technician was gone and the job was complete, my AV guy told me that the technician did not replace all the ducts, that there was an entire area he had missed. I called Polar Bear and they came back out to finish the job. A couple things bug me #1 I would not have known not all the duct was not replaced if I didn't have someone else there #2 there was about 6 feet worth of duct he missed which is significant when talking about a $5K job. I then asked them if they were able to replace the exhaust hose above my stove. They said they could and the cost would be included in the cost of replacing the ducts. The same technician came out, removed the existing hose then said he could not replace it because the new hose that needed to be used was not able to line up with the hole to the outside of the house. He then started to leave, I asked him to at least put the old hose back on so I could have a exhaust hose above my stove and he said he couldn't because it was not up to code and left. So now I have no exhaust hose and a hole in my kitchen. I called and the owner said she would send someone out to finish the job but I would have to pay for them to cut another hole and patch the old one, I said fine, I just want it fixed. The second technician came out and repaired the hole. The second technician is REALLY nice and professional, I would hire him any day if I didn't have to go through Polar Bear. I did not write a bad review at that point because I really just wanted to be done. But then last week I went up into my attic and saw that one of the ducts had been zip tied to a joist, holding the duct up off the ground about 2 feet, for no apparent reason. And because it was zip tied, the duct was bent in half so no air flow was getting to my kids rooms. I noticed that it was always warmer in their rooms, but did not really pursue it because I don't want their rooms that cold anyway and I didn't want to have Polar Bear come back out. So I called a friend who is a GC and he said there is no reason to zip tie ducts, that it may actually damage them. So I cut it down. I have not run my AC since I cut the duct down, so I don't know if any damage was done. Bottom line, I DO NOT recommend this company. Nice enough people but too many issues with high dollar projects and leaving me high and dry when they could not finish a project. read more

I called Polar Bear Heating & Air after not entirely happy with my first on site estimate to replace all the ducts in my attic. I spoke with Vanessa, who identified herself as the owner, and after a few questions about my home, she gave me an over the phone estimate which blew out of the water my first estimate. Vanessa was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done and even anticipated everything being up to code or better for my city. The estimate was not just lower, she even upgraded the material and work to be done from the first estimate. The best part was I called on a Wednesday and two days later on Saturday, as promised, she was at my home before 8am with the installer to inventory material needed for the job and while she left to get the material, the installer removed all the old ducts and insulation from my attic and garage. The installer, Steven Campos, was not just polite and respectful but competent in his work and cleaned up and bagged all material removed and hauled away. Vanessa cut no corners on the work and material used, and the estimate she quoted me over the phone is what I ended up paying when the work was completed to my satisfaction 5 hours later. Great and honest business! I had a quote from another company for $12,000 that I needed my air conditioner replaced. I told them I will get a second opinion and I called Polar Bear. They came out and told me that I had an easy repair and it only cost me $425. Carl, the technician, really knows his stuff and he saved me a ton of money. If I would have had to replace the air conditoner with Polar Bear, it would have only been $5500, less than half of that other company. We just bought a condo and needed the asbestos ducts removed, I did my homework and got some quotes, some companies seemed like they didn't want my business at all but Polar Bear was great from the very first conversation. When we finally got our keys she remembered the conversation from a month prior and came out to inspect the next day, as soon as she came in I couldn't be happier with our decision to go with Polar Bear, very down to earth and not sales pitchy at all. The crews came in the next day removed and replaced our ducts, added another in the kitchen and moved our unit on our very small patio so we had more room. The guys were on time and cleaned everything up after, when they called after to see what we thought (we weren't home while they were there) they told us the even ran the ducts up higher in the attic because they knew we might want to store stuff up there, pretty freaking amazing that they are so thoughtful too. PBHA installed an air conditioning unit in my rental property on 4/24/14. I had gotten quotes from several companies, but overall it wasn't the price that sold me on to them, it was their owner Vanessa. I mean the price did help, but it was her knowledge of what's out there and what would be beneficial for me. Within 2 weeks or so, they installed the new unit and we were good to go. An issue came up within a month (May 15) with a leak and I called Vanessa. She sent her tech out to take a look. Even thou the leak was not their fault, but my contractors that installed a new sink, her tech took care of a small pipe that was to be connected from the AC to the drain without even a blink. I was so happy with her prompt and courteous service that when my parents wanted to get a new AC Unit installed at their home, I told them to call Vanessa at PBHA. For their satisfaction, I told them to get estimates from others, but in the end even they went with PBHA for their AC. My dad who is an engineer, had only good things to say about their tech and his knowledge. Come a little over 1 year later (8/12/14) my tenants call me saying that they are not getting any air downstairs - again Vanessa to the rescue. Turns out there was a 12in coil that was dislodged and needed to be replaced as well as the filter. Her tech came out on (8/13) and within 2 days and $125 later the AC was back running again. So while they were there - I have two AC units at my home, so i decided to schedule them for a maintenance on both. Their tech came out Saturday (8/16/14), checked out the unit and we were good to go. Or so I thought. Within an hour of the technician leaving, the big AC unit completely shut down and started throwing out warm air. Called them up and and let them know and again the tech came out to take a look. He tried very hard and was not able to locate any issues. He checked the pressure, freon, coils, everything. Only thing he could think of was a possible leak, but since it was late on Saturday he would not be able to get the Nitrous. The next day I spoke to Vanessa to see what was going on since I hadn't heard back from them. Turns out their supply house was closed on Sunday. Well, she called her supply house, and got them to open for her, had her tech come out, run the tests (all negative) and make sure he didn't leave till we had cool air. Really long story short, he got the cold air running. With all the ups and downs, the main thing I took from this is the Customer Service that came along with everything that Polar Bear Heating and AC does. It's that peace of mind that, hey, if something does go sideways, they are there to get you on track. I highly recommend PBHA and Vanessa for your AC needs. Take it from someone that has seen them work their magic on at least 4 units. I will keep this review updated in-case something else arises. Hope your experience is great as well. read more

In my house three out of five rooms upstairs have very little air flow out from the registers. So those three rooms are extremely hot in Summer and cold in Winter. I called four AC companies to diagnose the problem. Three AC companies recommend me to change delivery and intake air ducts to bigger size plus adding dampers and changing registers. Some recommend to change one or two ducts, some recommend to change all the air ducts. The quote ranges from $1200-$3300. Carl from Polar Bear Heating suggests to add two dampers to divert the air flow from over supplied master bedroom/bath to the three undersupplied distal rooms and change the current registers to bar style registers. He confidently tells me the dampers will resolve the problem, there is no need to upsize air ducts. Carl also plies my old register opening bigger for free, so I don't need to replace all the registers. We replaced registers ourselves DIY since it is not that hard of job. Unlike another AC guy who is mad at the customers who do DIY and feel that we endanger his professional field, Carl and Vanessa (the officer manager) reduce the quote to only damper addition. After Carl added two dampers, I immediately felt that the air flow in those three bad rooms is strong and cool. Carl is friendly and patient. I ask him a lot of questions and also ask him to measure speed and temp at several other registers. He does not show any impatience nor is annoyed by my questions and extra requests. He always smiles and helps me at my request. Because of his accurate diagnosis of the problem and the suggestion of effective but minimal cost solutions, I only spent $300 to resolve the uneven airflow problem instead of thousands. read more
