Its hard to find good movers, I have moved about 6 different occasion and by far this was the best move. I had just recently bought a home in Poolesville and my move in date kept getting pushed back. Alex who was my point of contact, work with me every step of the way. I had changed dates three times and even changed my request of delivering to having them hold it overnight. In my experience a lot of movers take there time and run the clock to make more money. But this group of three who came down. The moment they came in, took a look at all my furniture asked me what was going and got to work. They finished packing all my stuff in 1 hour and 30 minutes and fit it all perfectly in a truck. This was the best team I have ever had. The same team came back a few days later and got all my stuff moved into my new house within an hour. They put it exactly where I wanted and even helped me a few items that were to heavy for me to lift alone. If your looking for a great company and great hard worker. Alex, There was not a single complaint made about the time spent moving my belongings. I'm not sure why you are bringing that up. I actually encourage you do a walk-through for your clients since you can't plan on providing a sufficient sized truck unless the customer gives you a list of every single piece of furniture in their house. You were not the only person hurt by the extensive amount of time it took to haul my belongings. By the way....I was with the movers the entire time and would have preferred to do other things with my day as well. It was kind of you to list the items that were moved. Yes...I had things like a vacuum and 2 night stands. Clearly I should have known that this stuff would not fit on the tiny truck. Please note that I would have gladly left the large tube TV at my previous residence if that would have made a difference but when you had to make a 2nd trip and there was plenty of room on the truck for it anyway! I have no idea what small table from a closet you are referring to. Your employees never touched or handled my ladder. I have proof you never moved it. Are you thinking about a step stool? There was a loading area readily available for the moving truck both times they arrived to move my belongings. There is no way to "reserve" an elevator so feel free to contact the Property Manager if you want to complain about that. Lastly, I apologize that your employees had to take extra steps. After searching for a moving company that was able to do a short distance (approximately 20-30 miles, one way), I found this company on groupon. I did some quick research on it, but couldn't find much. Regardless, I called the number I found on groupon, and spoke with a representative and found there was a time slot almost exactly for when I was looking. I went ahead and booked the groupon. A short time later, I received a call from the representative saying that my distance was a little more than anticipated, calculated incorrectly before due to a typo. I cancelled the groupon; however, Polar Bear Moving was happy to honor the previously quoted price. The day of the move, I had my 50-ish boxes already to go. (I did not need help packing or moving anything.) The two man team loaded the truck in approximately 20 minutes and we headed to the new location. I arrived a bit earlier than they did and unloaded my car in the meantime. When the two men arrived, after a little searching, they were able to find a parking spot. In about an hour, they were able to unload the truck and deliver the boxes to a second floor walk up apartment within an hour and a half! From arrival to dropping off the last box, the whole move took less than three hours. I was very pleasantly surprised with this, thinking it would be a lot more. The final cost was still under the nearest other quote I had received. The customer service was quick to answer/reply as well, whether it was a phone call or email. A minor note: there is a 5% surcharge if using a credit card to pay. However, the quote I had was right on target and so withdrew the amount ahead of time. read more

Polar Bear moving was fantastic, and I highly recommend them. Max and Al were so efficient, and finished our move in half the time we expected. They called when they arrived and reported for duty right on time. I found the company through a groupon, and they were easily 25% cheaper than other companies I quoted. Alex, the office manager, was fantastic in coordinating everything and helping me to figure out how much time and man power I would need. I had a similarly great experience with them. Alex on the phone is friendly and helpful. I sent them pictures of the furniture and boxes I wanted to move and I think this helped a lot in the estimate. Luckily everything was packed and ready when they came over, so the moving process went extremely smooth. I had a great experience with Polar Bear Moving. I had gathered several estimates before choosing and I ultimately went with them because of Alex. She was so helpful in providing an estimate, following up and even calling me back when I hung up after getting distracted at work! I paid a minimal deposit to secure my moving day and she shot me an email the night before my move. Three guys arrived a few minutes early, I excitedly ran out but they said they'd be in shortly (they start right on time- not a minute early or late), did a quick survey of the house and starting picking up boxes right away. There were a few items left over that wouldn't fit but it didn't warrant a second trip. I did ask if a 6' ladder could go (after the truck was closed, yikes!) as getting it in my car later might stink. The lead mover said yes, opened the truck and was able to get it in!! The unloading process went quickly and the guys were done in the 3 hours I was quoted. My only criticism, and I say this lightly because it wasn't a problem whatsoever, is a couple guys COULD come across as abrasive or possibly unfriendly (???). But they did the job they came to do! I tipped each of them individually, would have them back if I needed it and would refer them to friends/family. FIVE STARS! read more

They not only arrived promptly, they took care knowing what each item was so they could be extra careful with the fragile items. I couldn't be happier with my experience with Polar Bear Moving. Before choosing them I requested quotes to other Companies as well, but they were all more expensive. Polar Bear Moving also had a special on Groupon, and when I asked Alex about the differences between that special and the in-house special they had I received thorough explanation of both (including those "hidden" fees I've read about in some other review). Moreover, when I told Alex that I was thinking of going with the "3 hour deal" (because I was afraid we would not make it on time), the response was that I should consider the "2 hour" one and that I didn't have to worry. We ended up making it in 1 hour and 40 minutes (a bed was also disassembled and reassembled during this time span). An important thing is to provide them EXACTLY with all the information they need (number of boxes, if there is parking available in front of the building you are moving from/to, if the building has an elevator and so on). This way they'll be able to calculate the most accurate estimate possible. Alex has been nice, helpful, and professional, and the same goes for the two movers that came to help me with my move. BEWARE. THEY LOSE FURNITURES and refuse to take responsibility. I used Polar Bear twice. 1st from apartment to storage and 2nd from storage to new apartment. Each time I paid they rate promptly without any complaint. After my second move and as I was settling into the apartment and assembling furnitures, I realized that pieces of my bed were missing. I had seen them in the storage, which means that they got lost during the 2nd move (from the storage new apartment). I contacted Polar Bear (Alex) and calmly, respectfully explained the situation, sent them the listing of the bed with retail price. They concluded that their insurance only reimbursed a maximum of $50 for a furniture. However they deemed that my complaint was filed too late for the insurance, so they can only refund me $35! What is $35 for a bed? BEWARE, you will use Polar Bear Moving at your own risk. read more

The lead mover did not have a good attitude and exaggerated the extra work/furniture. He also took many smoke breaks and was on the phone frequently while handling our things. I also felt like the "no hidden fees" was misleading- we were charged extra fees for missing some furniture on our list (wasn't aware we would be charged for accidentally forgetting a few small things), we were also charged for "heavy furniture" which we've had others do before with no problem, and charged extra for disassembly of our bed which said was included in our rate. I call these hidden fees! Very disappointed with the lack of transparency and unprofessional behavior of the lead mover. read more

Alex- Obviously anyone who reads my review can draw their own conclusion but I am giving an honest review of and advice on your company....which is the point of yelp. - If long walks are measured (which they weren't) this should happen and everyone should be told about it (including the customer). I, as the customer, was not told about it and I was there the entire time and never saw any measurement done. - I would assume that an extra cost such as a "long walk" would be included in the "extras" section of your email....and it was not. Instead you keep that as a hidden cost that your customers need to search for. - After the move was done and the movers SHOCKED me with the price tag I tried to discuss the charges with the movers and he refused. He said I needed to sign the paper and call the office once he was gone because he "is simple man and does simple job." So unfortunately, that is what I did. - FYI since you are talking second hand I guess it wasn't mentioned to you that I was also on this phone call and I know exactly what was said. I actively participated in this call. 1.) He did not refuse to give you his name. I don't even know what sense that makes. 2.) Why you care about my relationship status with this person is puzzling to me but your company moved both of our belongings and he also paid your employees so he has every right to be on this call. He did not say "no one reads entire emails." He said the fact that you hid this cost below the "Thank you, Alex" where the email ends is a scam. And it is. - Like I said, after we finished unpacking we realized this box was gone. So no, we didn't tell you when we called to complain about the cost about it because we didn't know then but I am telling you now. The box is gone and it had our computer and many other items in it. The movers didn't walk miles....but whatever. - Common sense is present, thank you. But thank you for teaching me a lesson that honest movers do not exist. I will be sure to read all of the fine print from now on. read more

I highly recommend Polar Bear Moving! I thought I had two hours worth of a move, but they managed to move quickly and efficiently and finished in only one hour! I literally walked upstairs for a few minutes, and then returned downstairs and all my boxes were already loaded in the truck! Most importantly, everything they loaded was secure and safe for my travels. Moving can be such a hassle. What can make moving even more of a hassle? Being a single female that lived up 3+ flights of stairs with no elevator. Most moving companies that I researched charged an arm and a leg thanks to those flights of stairs but Polar Bear Moving had more reasonable pricing. I quickly contacted them and scheduled and I would like to say that I made the right choice. They arrived ON TIME and moved all my things in half the time. Eric and Dennis were wonderful- they arrived just after scheduled time (not by there own fault) and worked so diligently that they finished a half hour early. They were careful not to scrape walls and handled all of our furniture and boxes with care. The customer service was also great.
