I grew up eating at Milt's... The fries in the bag with your hamburger was a great little meal. The Fish and Chips were amazing. The fresh cut, slightly oily, fries were out of this world. So you can imagine my disappointment when I got one of the worst hamburgers I've ever had, bad fries that I paid $2 too much for, and mediocre fish and chips for $30! The burger was shoved into the bag, most of the burger was out of the bun, it was like the entire thing was just dumped into the little sack and called good enough. The meat was spongy, like a soy burger. Not good at all. While friendly, the kids working that day really didn't seem to have any leadership there to help and have had very little training. Service is not one of the drive in's strong points, but it was better than the food. Milt's is long gone, and what remains is a shell with the old "Polar Queen" name painted on the wall. This is your old school small town drive in shop and running probably much the same as it has for a long time. Know that you'll likely be waiting a bit for your food, so get comfy and enjoy some good conversation. Food is on the good side of average. Nothing you're going to write home about but a satisfying meal. The onion rings were the right doneness - you bite through and the onion doesn't pull out. Their fries and English chips are really quite delicious. I really appreciate that the cost of the burger/sandwich does include the fries. A few downsides - besides napkins, you literally have nothing else available to you. Not ketchup, straws, salt, anything. You have to go back to the counter and ask for anything that you want. Seating is also limited. And they seem to have difficulty remembering to come out and wipe doesn't the tables... But it does have a homey vibe that will likely remind you a bit of childhood. read more

My wife and I were in the area and decided to try this place out. It reminded me of an old fast food joint of the 80's. The staff were all friendly. They were very busy on a Saturday too, which is always a good sign for me. I ordered the BBQ with onion straws burger and added bacon because why not? My wife ordered the bacon swiss burger. The burgers come with fries and they do not allow substitutions. We wanted to replace the fries with english chips but they did not allow that so we had to order the english chips a la carte. My BBQ burger was stacked high (see picture). The onion straws were perfect (and homemade?) and the bacon was the good quality kind. What was missing was the burger. The burger was as thin as paper. With all the other toppings on the burger it was more of a BLT with BBQ sauce and onion straws. I could not taste any hamburger on there. After I ordered I did notice that you could order the burgers as double, triple, etc. If I were to order here again I'd definitely order at least a double. I think that would balance out the burger better. I cannot figure out why their patties are so thin but they seem to go all out on the toppings. Their burgers need more balance - I say more burger and less toppings! The fries were some of the best out there and they seems freshly cut. I couldn't stop eating them with their fry sauce. English chips are not found in many places and these were cooked perfectly and were as good as we had hoped they would be. The staff were all friendly and the food came out of the kitchen hot and fresh and the wait times were not very long considering how busy they were. They did seem to get confused a bit on who ordered what so they kept going from table to table until they found the right person. They brought most every table's food out in stages so I think they get confused. Also I noticed they would forget everyone's drinks, including ours, so service can improve a bit and be more efficient. read more

I went there on July 11, 2018 and ordered a shake and a bacon burger with swiss cheese. The flavor was good, the fries were good and the shake was not bad. All that said, the hamburger pattie was the size of a slider. I literally had to move the lettuce and other fixings around to see the burger! The surface of the bun was twice the size of the burger. I dont want to discourage anyone from going here, but if you order a burger, order a triple, because that would be about the size you would expect of a single at any other burger joint. Honestly I think this pattie ( which isn't cheap) is a little smaller than a dollar menu burger at Wendy's or McDonalds. I would have given a solid 4 maybe even 5 stars but they no longer serve fries with the sandwiches (they have to be ordered separately which makes a full meal quite expensive) and I couldn't find any menus online that gave pricing or indicated the change in ordering. This place is a gem! It should be on diners drive ins & dives.. I'm not even kidding!! The best little ma and pa hole in the wall restaurant in little payson!! I've been coming here since I was a kid and it never fails the hamburgers are amazing, it's tastes like an all American GOOD burger! & the English chips are my personal favorite.. like a fun twist on tater tots! The wait is always a little long (cause the food is so fresh) but if you can call ahead I would definitely recommend it.. New ownership and it went down hill fast. No longer do you get fries with your burger. Its EXTRA now. Double meat double cheese is exactly that. 2 patties 2 slices of cheese ketchup and mustard on a bun and nothing else for almost $10.00. To the new owners, you have let a well known burger joint in Payson become a horrible dive drive through with subpar burgers. I have been a Polar Queen fan for 40+ years and even when it was known as Milts. Not going back. read more

I've eaten here all my life but the last 5 to 6 years the food has gotten terrible. Or should I say the cook has gotten terrible. I keep giving them chances but every time I decide to try them again it just seems to get worse. I spent 28.00 plus dollars on fish and chips that were so under cooked and soggy they fell apart in your hand and the grease is so bad that the bags are soaked through. I don't understand how any cook could allow that to be served. Its very expensive and it should at least be editable. We just stopped for dinner. I asked if they had a grilled chicken sandwich. The young man working the window said yes. So we ordered it. When we got our food the chicken was a deep fried chopped chicken patty. When we went back through the drive thru the young man kept peeking from the kitchen to see if we were still there. After 5 min of holding up the line they finally asked if they could help us. We said we ordered a grilled chicken and this was not grilled. The young man (without going to the back) said I checked with my boss and it is grilled. My husband said a grilled chicken is a chicken breast that is grilled and doesn't have breading. The young man said, yes that is a grilled chicken. He hid behind paper in the window. How often do you think they do things like this? And just like that, what was good about this small home town burger joint is gone. For some reason, they decided to change things up a bit. What used to be an authentic strawberry banana shake is now.....well, I am not sure what it is. I can say this, it isn't real strawberries and I didn't get one banana in it. The fries are not great and the burger was about 3/4 of the size they used to be. The BLT was a joke. The menu sign changed to the point that it literally make no sense. When I asked the girl at the window how do we know the price? She was a little snot, although the other employees were as helpful and kind as usual. The prices went sky high and the burgers don't come with fries anymore making the price of a burger and fries more than double. I Loved this place, ate there about once every 2 weeks or so. This place is hit and miss, but mostly miss. We bought regular fries plus English chips here, tonight. Over-cooked, crispy (almost burnt) and dry. I suspect the owners have abandoned this place and turned it over to teenagers to run. Might I add, that the teenagers have no idea what they are doing. The food is beyond terrible. Never again. I ordered my hamburger which says it comes with a side of fries. I asked to substitute the fries with onion rings. When I saw the receipt the price looked quite high. I saw the full price for the burger and a separate charge for the onion rings at full price as well. I asked if the burgers come with fries and they said yes. I asked why I was charged for the full price for onion rings and for the onion rings and they said that they didn't. I then explained that I paid full price for the burger and fries and full price for the onion rings and asked if I could at least get the side of fries since I paid for them? They said they couldn't and said the price for fries is "like a dollar or 2 more". I then said that the price on the menu says it is for a burger and fries and now you are changing it? I drove off after getting my food. The meat had a very strong smell.. it smelled like cow pie. Or horse terds. Basically the smell of feces of a plant eating animal. Earthy with a smell of digested hay. My wife also had the same impression. I was not happy with our visit. On top of that our onion rings weren't fully cooked even after waiting 20 minutes. The staff sounded unknowledgeable about their food when asked to explain a few of their burgers. The food was okay but I got thrown off with the burgers being in the same bag as my fries. I usually love this place to pieces. I occasionally go for lunch. The daytime staff is always on top of it, some real pros. But I'm just leaving now and my mom had a terrible experience. She waited upwards of thirty minutes to be given a single corn dog and order of onion rings. After getting up and standing at the counter, a girl asked if she'd been helped, said she'd go check on the food, and brought it right out. The bag was already greasy, the food was cold. It had clearly been sitting there. The boys in the kitchen were talking away, moving awfully slow. And they weren't busy. The place just seemed to not be running very well. I worked at a DQ all throughout high school. I understand how stressful fast food can be, so I'm usually very patient and have actually never left a nasty review. But this has to be send. The Polar Queen Drive Inn is a very nice, family owned, All-American fast food joint and that's a good thing in my book. I stumbled upon the Polar Queen while working in Payson one day and being the foodie that I am I considered it my duty to sample the menu as I am always looking for great Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (sorry, shameless plug of one of my favorite shows) and the Polar Queen was a pleasant treat. The little drive inn is very clean and the individuals working there were very nice and answered all of my questions, the menu is large and yes it is what you would expect from a fast food drive inn. I ordered the halibut fish and chips and a taco, yes that is an odd mix but I am always searching for the next great taco so when I spotted it on the menu I had to try one. The taco first, not the best taco that I have ever had and man I have eaten a lot of tacos, it had a very simple homemade flavor to it with a crispy corn shell, ground beef, lettuce, cheese, and a sauce that was a little too much like ketchup. I am sure that I will happen across this joint again and when I do I will order the tacos again, hold the sauce. Now the fish and chips, the bad, portion size of the fish was really small, the good, they were very tasty. The order came with two small pieces of fish, a couple of onion rings, and fries. The onion rings were homemade with a crispy, tasty, deep fried batter, and the fries were rock solid, very good. This is a nice place with good comfort food, I am not going to tell you that I would pass on Moochies, or Culver's, or some other place that I really love to go here but if you find yourself in Payson where there are not a lot of food options this is a very good little spot that you will enjoy. Worst Food and Service I have ever had. My son and I waited 40 minutes for our food and when the food came it was cold! What the heck! Usually when a place is busy the food comes piping hot! My son ordered a burger that was suppose to be twice as big as mine and it was the same size as mine. It was 6.99.
