The fried chicken here is fantastic, along with other tasty options like sweet fried plantains and crispy fries. Although there's some seating out back, we opted to take our order home. We tried the mixed chicken bucket, which had around 15 pieces and was far better than KFC, Church's, or Popeyes. The sides were also delicious, though they may be different for some. We'll be back. Our work ordered this for lunch today and I was very pleasantly surprised by Pollo Campero. I thought this was going to be a grilled rotiserrie chicken join with the super hot green sauce and tortillas kinda deal but imagine my awe when instead out popped a box of golden retriever puppy colored fried chicken, with spice to boot! Not sure what their seasoning blend is for the fried chicken, but I dig it for sure. It blows a lot of other fast food fried chicken out of the water. Meat is moist and juicy too and good amount of crunch on the breading. They also do have grilled chicken and I would love to try that too. The sides are sufficient too if you care much for them. Potatoes and gravy are good, cole slaw is ok, and rolls are meh but if you need a break from the chicken onslaught, they fill the role fine. All in all, love to have met a new fried chicken joint! read more

This venue is located in the Sunrise Mini Mart that has some of the most unsavory patrons that one must try to ignore whilst trying to order some of the most savory grilled chicken, quite reminiscent of the grilled chicken I use to get in Venezuela. Absolutely LOVE your chicken and other menu items and was very excited that y'all offered free delivery along with pick-up. However, with the recent price increase of some menu items, the added service fees for delivery, the added charge for extra sauce, and the haphazard delivery service, I am very disinclined to order from y'all again, regardless of the amount of reward dollars or coupons available to me. Even though y'all stood out as a quality operation in the beginning, y'all are now basically no different than the numerous other food service providers offering delivery. This is the best fried chicken I think I've ever had. It's really moist. The skin isn't too dry but has a good crunch. The side salad is decently sized and has REAL greens in it. The empanadas are delicious (they don't taste like I'm eating mostly bread). The Campero sauce is very similar to Chik-fil-a sauce. The flan is fluffy and creamy. The corn salad is awesome. Mashed potatoes are good. Cole slaw has too much mayonnaise. Overall awesome place. Will order from here again. read more

Pollo Campero is a chicken joint that started in Guatemala, and I can see why it's spreading. Their grilled chicken is along the lines of Regio--wonderfully moist with a very interesting spice rub. They serve it by the quarter, half, or full chicken. I just brought home a quarter and am fighting the temptation to go get the remaining three-fourths! The Campero beans are also good. Like Regio and similar places, they serve it up with tortillas and a lime slice, but they have a wider selection of sides. They also serve fried chicken, empanadas, and bowls. They even have yucca fries, which I can't wait to try. Their online menu lists possible allergens in their food. It's rare to find a place that tells you upfront which items have MSG--which makes me really sick, so I appreciate the heads-up! The fried chicken looked really tempting, but since it's listed as having MSG, the rest of you will have to taste it for me. The counter is inside a convenience store on St John east of 35. There's even a laundromat attached, and apparently, a flea market on the weekends. read more

First, let's talk about location. My fellow partner-in-pollo said that "It seems like each of these places is trying to one-up each other on who can come up with the most ridiculous location". Too true. This location shares a building with a convenience store/laundromat combination. Wacky. Got here around 9pm and they didn't have any grilled chicken so I got fried chicken. I'd say it was on par with KFC, which is fine, I guess. The campero beans were delicious, however. Among Campero, Regio, and Rico, Campero's beans are the clear winner. I want to come back and try the grilled chicken but, until then, this place is just average and I'd skip the fried chicken. Update - went back today around 630pm (as in 21 hours after my previous review) and, fortunately (er, sort of) they had grilled chicken ready to serve. Let's cover some key differences between Campero and Regio/Rico. Campero charges 49 cents less but also doesn't give you awesome green sauce or rice. The rice I can live without but the green sauce is a problem. Campero takes credit cards, though, so that's a plus. Additionally, the citrus-grilled chicken at Campero is a little too true to its name, for my taste. Your palette is overwhelmed with salt and citrus. I like citrus as much as the next guy, just as long as the next guy isn't a cook at Campero, evidently. Campero does score some points for how juicy the breast meat was. Although the flavor wasn't as good, the breast was much less dry than Campero's peers. Overall, my 3-star rating remains unchanged. El Reggio serves a superior product but I think that Campero might be slightly better than Pollo Rico. It does have the best beans of the three, though. read more

i am livid!!!!! i have never ever had a nightmare episode of getting food ordered from this restaurant from one of the horrid delivery services, and had to wait 2hrs because uber eats had to get another driver to get our food and when it got to my office we got a box of chicken nuggets, cold fries, and beans!!!! this is not what i ordered and paid $$$$$ stillwaiting to get a phone call from this restaurant to settle this matter.!!! never will i use any delivery services ever again!!! and may not order food from this restaurant again!!!! read more

This location is terrifying. Shady characters loitering in parking lot...The convenience store owners kicked out a couple of homeless men while I was waiting in line. If you want to wash your hands before you eat you need to ask for the restroom key. The cashier was very inattentive and had to be flagged over by the cashier of the convenience store. The flavor of the fried chicken was pretty meh--not bad enough to throw away, not good enough to enjoy. This probably had something to do with the fact that the chicken just sitting under heat lamp.I wouldn't recommend eating in as the dining room is a sad space off to the side. The sauces we just okay, the absence of the creamy green sauce available at other chicken places was noted. I ordered the yucca, which was fine I guess. Nothing special. At the end of the meal, I wished I'd gone to KFC. If you're on the fence about this place, I'd skip it. read more

I would love to review this food -- it sounded great -- but when I went and stood in line for 15 minutes without ever being served, I can't do that. I saw the warnings about them closing early, so I showed up in plenty of time. This restaurant is a counter inside some sort of convenience store. There were about four people waiting on their food, and another three ahead of me waiting to place their orders. There were varying levels of frustration on their faces. The two people working the counter were scurrying around, but I couldn't make it what they were doing. They weren't cooking, they weren't putting together meals -- they just seemed to be busy being busy. I didn't have time to wait on them -- I left. Juicy chicken, grilled OR fried. The empanadas, yucca and campero beans are so tasty. The location/appearance is not the nicest and intimidating. If you're hesitant just call in your order. Really a bargain for the amount and quality of food you get. They take Credit card, no fee. read more

Wow. The best!!! Let me state the two ladies behind the counter could have been less fake nice about being patient with me since it was my first visit. It was kinda loud in there so I didn't hear everything they said. I guess ppl don't think ppl in Texas don't understand Spanish but who cares, the food was delicious and I will be back. Fried Chicken: perfect crispy, fresh. While I was waiting for my meal they brought out 2 fresh trays so I think they know how to keep the food fresh. Grilled Citrus Chicken: so tender, flavorful Rice: not as good looking as the pic but tasty enough. Plantains: perfect Roll & Tortillas: soft & fresh Sauces the creamy cilantro is good and the chipotle honey mustard was fine. I really wanted to try the sweet adobo but they were out. Update I think the sauces are different now. Mango Agua Fresca: so perfect and no fake flavor taste or too sweet. It was just right. Staff was polite and on the ball. Food was great. I love this place. This is not far from my home. I brave St.Johns to get great chicken, great yucca fries and yummy plantains with sour cream. The dipping sauces are really good too. This little place is conveniently in a corner store that has a decent adult beverage selection so I like to stop in when I'm too exhausted to cook and ready to eat and unwind. read more

Woo Hoo! Pollo Campero came to Austin! Now if they could get out of a gas station and into their own store it would get five stars! It is the best fried chicken on the planet. I went in there expecting a KFC knockoff, but what I found was something much better. The Latin American fusion offers a lot of interesting options for things to mix and match with fried chicken. I loved it. I've had both the grilled and the fried and they are both delicious. The beans Yumm! The rice was also amazing, and the fried plantain is just delicious! But the cole slaw is just cabbage and mayo and Not good at all. Oh the chipotle sauce is also really good. Grilled or fried, either way, the chicken is awesome. This place is a favorite for our whole office. Nobody can stop eating it! And the empanadas are killer, too. These guys know how to take care of a crowd. I haven't ever eaten in the restaurant, but I hear that makes for an interesting experience, as well. We tried the grilled chicken and the fried chicken - both were great! The yuca fries are worth getting also (try the Campero sauce with them - it's seems to be their version of mayoketchup). We've tried some of the new fried chicken places in Austin (more along the hipster scene) and none of them make fried chicken as good as this. Like the previous person said - the grilled chicken has an interesting spice rub, along with a very nice citrus flavor. The chicken empanadas are worth getting - nicely moist and mildly spicy. I've been there twice in the last week - the second time to get a whole grilled chicken and try the empanadas. We didn't like the other sides as much as the yuca - the beans and the rice were OK, a bit on the dry side, and the cole slaw had a nice flavor but too heavy on the mayo. Even though the place is in a combination convenience store, laundromat, and bus station, there are a couple of places to eat there: a couple of tables outside and more tables in a separate room inside. Don't let this description dissuade you -- if you like fried chicken, check this place out! Get it to go - it's still delicious after it's a cooled down a bit. read more
