Finally I stopped by with a friend after a long bike ride and we took home a whole chicken to split. Um. Everything was DELICIOUS! The whole chicken came with soft corn tortillas, salsas, and a side each of beans and rice. An grilled/roasted (aka slightly charred) onion was wrapped up in parchment with the chicken, absorbing yummy chicken flavors that was pulled apart for tacos. Everything was flavorful and the beans were studded with bacon chunks in it. Yes, it was that good! The chicken was really flavorful. Very savory and perfectly charred. . It's mesquite grilled chicken but I don't think I've had anything like it.. Unlike typical American barbecue, this wasn't sweet at all. Some of the white meat pieces were a bit dry, so I ate them with the beans and all was well.

The tenders were crispy, seasoned just right, and the fries? Whew. Different in the best way. I couldn't quite put my finger on it -- maybe coconut oil? Whatever it was, it worked. Now let's talk about the service, because this was the cherry on top. The manager was so personable and genuinely proud to share the story of Happy Chicks and their locations. You could tell she loved being there -- and that kind of energy set the tone for my whole meal. The place was clean, the parking lot spotless, and service was quick. I'll be back to try the spicy tenders next time. If you're near Research Blvd, swing by and check them out. Your taste buds (and your mood) will thank you. P.S. Cory, don't come for me -- I know there are no pictures. Next round (spicy tenders!), I got you.

He genuinely cares about his customers and it shows. He even offered samples of the tamarind lemonade, brown sugar lemonade, and hibiscus tea right away. That kind of hospitality instantly sets the tone. What impressed me most was how consistently attentive and kind he was to everyone -- adults, teenagers, and even little kids were all treated with the same great level of service. You can tell he's truly customer-service oriented. It's located in a shopping center so lots of parking. The menu is large with plenty of options to choose from. I decided on a bento box because I was craving bulgogi and jap chae, and this one came with both plus kimchi and pickled sides! I also ordered the tamarind lemonade, which wasn't too sweet exactly how I like it. I honestly wasn't planning on finishing everything in my bento, but it was so delicious that I did! The bulgogi was prepared just the way I like it. My sister-in-law is half Korean, and when we visit, her mom cooks amazing homemade Korean meals for us. I was really craving that comforting, authentic flavor today and Kochu absolutely satisfied it. The portions are generous and the value for the price is fantastic. Between the incredible customer service and the delicious food, this place is an easy 5 stars for me. Wish we had something like this South of Austin. I'll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it!

You can still see the flames leaping around in the kitchen and the cooks hustling. When you walk through the door, you'll be handed a 5 page menu or you can scan the QR code on a table. You have to stand in line, then you order, face the tip screen, then you are handed a number until it comes out. You'll notice they have a large selection of drinks off to the side, but they have no drink menu. They have beer, soju and even a few liquor bottles, but do they make mixed drinks? In other words, the drink equation here is a mystery (we settled for water). I ordered the beef Bulgogi plate and the wife got the bibombok bowl. For the money, you cannot beat the quality of the freshly prepared food. If you decide on the wings here, you'll notice they are quite popular, but the fries are nothing unique. Everything considered, this is still a great spot to fulfill that Korean cuisine fix. Informative photos included. It should be mentioned that they do a lot of "to go" business.

Nothing else really comes close. The chicken is excellent, but the fries deserve a special mention, they're perfectly crispy and coated in a cheesy, spiced seasoning that's completely unique and insanely good. I also saw my friend mention it as the restaurant for her graduation luncheon so I figured it must be good! Lo and behold I met the owner Brandon and learned he's actually my friend's cousin! Small world! lol Brandon recommended the salt and pepper wings and shrimp since it was my first time and it was served with fried rice and a slice of bread. I really liked the crispiness of the food and batter that was used to fry it. You can taste the the flavor all in the skin. I would say the actual chicken inside the skin could use a tad bit more salt but also that could be a preference thing for me. I loved the jalapeño ranch dipping sauce which took the shrimp up a notch. The fried rice tasted like Chinese takeout rice which I believe the owner mentioned was part of the concept of the business, as it reminded him of the restaurant he had back home. I had a sweet tea for my drink which was really good as well, not too sweet. Can't wait to come back and try other menu items!
