I had seen some advertising on social media when they first opened and was excited to try it. They are known for serving chicken salad, soups, sides & sweet treats made from scratch daily with fresh ingredients. This restaurant offers a variety of chicken salads including fruity, savory and spicy options. I have never seen as many varieties of chicken salad as they serve at this restaurant, they have something for everyone! There was plenty of parking available and there was not a wait. The restaurant was a shade of pastel green and had images of Austin displayed around the dining room. We placed an order at the counter. Because of all the options, I had trouble making a decision. However, they offered us samples of the different varieties of chicken salad to help us decide. I went with the one scoop meal and choose the Fancy Nancy sandwich with grapes, celery and pecan on wheat bread. You have the ability to customize your meal and choose one or two sides from a variety of options, I added a side of fruit. We had been anxious to see this place open and we were happy to try it. The menu holds lots of details so a bunch of newcomers (like us) stopped to stare through the options of salads and sandwiches and sides. You can try a scoop of any salad. Chicken Salad Chick is a fine addition to the Austin fast food scene. * * * Chicken Salad Chick is based on two dishes - chicken salad and pimento cheese. Chicken salad comes in 15 flavors. (The house claims 16. I am sure that the 16th is in there somewhere even though my addition kept coming to 15.) Pimento cheese comes in 2 flavors. Both are hard to find in other Texas restaurants. Both are eminently worthwhile. So far, I have had the regular pimento cheese. (The other pimento cheese option is spicy.) I have done an onion-y chicken salad, a pickle-y chicken salad, and a lemony chicken salad. All three of my chicken salads were off of the mild side of the menu. If you want to blow the top of your head off with chicken salad, They have put any one of a number of different hot peppers or hot sauces into chicken salad to give it "some kick". Everything was good. The onion-y chicken salad and the regular pimento cheese were absolutely positively outstanding. You get the best shot at tasting your chicken salad or cheese by ordering straight up scoops rather than elaborate sandwiches. (They offer elaborate sandwiches). The scoops come with lots of mini-packets of really good crackers. The pimento cheese absolutely benefits from being paired with the crackers. (Think cheese and crackers.) The crackers drown out the mild chicken salads. (They might do just fine with the hot pepper versions.) But with or without mini-packets of crackers, This is fine fine eating. * * * Three quickie comments: a) These days they are giving away their mini-butter-cream cookies for dessert when you order a regular lunch. You totally totally want that mini-cookie. If they were to start charging for that mini-cookie, I would absolutely buy in. I might even buy into one of the larger but definitely good looking desserts. Think Southern specialties like red velvet cake, white chocolate layer cake or rice krispie bars. b) The decoration is Texas Southern girly-girl. White molding, patterned wallpaper, cute bric-a-brac, floral touches. The restaurant gets a lot of light from having a corner space with windows on two sides. It is a happy place to be. c) The founder is a character. You can get a lot of the flavor of her personality by reading her biography on the life statement available in the front of the restaurant. She puts a lot of her punchier opinions on signs in the rest rooms. Visit the restrooms even if you don't particularly have to wash your hands. Send someone of the other gender into the other restroom and have them report back. It will make your day. * * * An altogether fine establishment. I think I am in love with pimento cheese. read more

I admit I'd not heard of Chicken Salad Chick when I snagged an invite to their "Friends and Family" pre-opening. I saw it was a chicken salad based restaurant and that intrigued me. I tried several versions... the Carols Classic, Jalapeño, some with nuts and grapes... but to me the sides were the star. This place isn't bad for a quick lunch. The service was really good. After looking over the menu for a bit, I was offered free samples of any of their chicken salads. I went with the Dixie Chicks oniony one as a BLT on a croissant. The bacon of the blt was cold and sad but the sandwich was still good after I took it off. GOOD lettuce and tomato. I got the pasta salad on the side which was bland but the strawberry lemonade I had with it was perfect! They also give you a lil packaged frosted cookie that also tasted bland and mass-produced but it was cute and complimentary. This experience was amazing I went tonight 10/9 and the manager or lead on duty who helped was extremely kind -- I didn't catch his name but he was taller with glasses and made the experience very easy being that it was my first time ordering and I was a bit confused about the process. The food was absolutely amazing -- I loved the Dixie Chick! I would get the grape salad ten times over.
