I'm super disappointed with the service I received on Saturday, August 22. I discovered Pollo Campero last month and have ordered from here three times since. I've been hyping it up to literally everyone I know, including my boyfriend. After basically begging him to try it, he finally agreed yesterday. I promised him he wouldn't regret it and would love the food as much as I did. Boy, was I wrong. We arrived around 8:45 p.m. and placed our order at 8:50 p.m. --receipt timestamped, order #655. When we walked in, there were two people waiting for food (received food shortly after we arrived) and two gentlemen in front of us together placing an order. My boyfriend ordered a spicy chicken sandwich with fries and also wanted a two-piece chicken, but was told they only had dark meat, which he doesn't eat. I ordered a three-piece fried chicken meal with plantains, rice and a horchata. I was a little put off that they only had dark meat, but whatever. I had hyped this place up so much that I was determined for him to try it. We decided to eat inside because we're a decent drive away and I wanted him to have the food fresh and hot. Then we walked over to the drink station. Disgusting--drink stains all over the counter, everything looked sticky and unclean, and there was even a nice little bug sitting on the counter to greet us :-) Photos attached. Again, a turnoff, but I'm STILL telling this man, "Just wait until you try the food. It's so good." We sit down at a table--THAT WE HAD TO WIPE DOWN OURSELVES, mind you--and start noticing how unkempt the restaurant is. There were four tables with used plates and trash sitting there. Food was visibly spilled on the floor. The napkin dispenser was empty. We told the cashier, and instead of refilling it, he grabbed us a handful of napkins and went on about his business. My boyfriend is now looking at me like, "And THIS is the place you've been begging me to try?" I'm still defending it. 25 minutes go by. My boyfriend gets up to ask about our food because the restaurant is pretty much empty. The only other people waiting were the two gentlemen who ordered before us. There was no line inside, and the drive-thru wasn't exactly popping either. The cashier tells him it'll be another 4-5 minutes--Okay. We wait ANOTHER 15 minutes. We have now been sitting there for 40 MINUTES waiting for "fast food." At that point, between the filthy restaurant, the wait, and the fact that we were starving, we were over it. We asked for a refund. They told us our food would be ready "soon." No. We've already been waiting 40 minutes. We no longer want the food. Then somehow it takes them SEVEN MORE MINUTES to return the cash my boyfriend paid with. I can only assume they were stalling to see if our food would magically appear. Spoiler alert: it did not. The customer service made it worse. The young gentleman working the register was talking, joking, and playing around with his coworker while trying to take our order. Anytime we asked what was happening with our food, all we got was: Him telling the kitchen "They're waiting on orders." Or: "Sorry, it's just busy." I'M SORRY, because "busy" was not in the room with us. There was basically no one there! And if you're working the front counter during a slow period, why is the drink station dirty? Why are tables covered in old plates? Why is there food on the floor? Why are the napkins and straws not stocked? If the kitchen is backed up, COMMUNICATE THAT. Tell customers upfront there's a 30-40+ minute wait. Check on delayed orders. Apologize. Do something besides repeatedly saying "they're waiting on orders" like that helps anything. Unfortunately, this isn't even my first ridiculous wait here. The last time I came through the drive-thru, I asked for a large side of beans. The employee didn't understand what I wanted, even after I explained it multiple times, and gave me a regular size anyway. I sent my sister inside afterward to purchase the large beans I originally wanted. She waited 20 minutes. FOR BEANS. BEANS. It's insanity. This location seriously struggles to get orders out within a reasonable amount of time, and after this experience, I'm done taking chances. So yeah...my Pollo Campero obsession was very much short-lived. I went from hyping this place up to everybody I know to being embarrassed that I dragged my boyfriend here and spent 40+ minutes telling him, "I swear the food is good!" while we sat in a dirty restaurant and never actually received any food. This spot has potential and I will definitely be trying it again. I had the chicken sandwich combo with beans as my side. To me the chicken seemed dry, but the BEANS were TOP TIER!!!! Absolutely delicious. I'll just go back for the beans at this point. They were so flavorful. Also tried the empanada trio which were not too bad but probably wouldn't try them again. Overall I would say this spot is cool for a quick meal. read more

Ordered here for the first time and was completely disappointed in the quality of chicken and service. We did drive-thru and asked for 8 mixed piece l half fried/grilled chicken only. As soon as we got home and opened this box we saw no breast pieces and all pieces looked completely dry like they were sitting there for a while. On top of that we were only given fried pieces only!! We paid extra for half and half and they did not provide what we paid for. Chicken looked dry and small. Not worth $22+ No grilled pieces even though we paid for it. Not a true mixed variations. As someone who has been a loyal Pollo Campero fan since the early 2000s, I can confidently say this Annapolis location stands out as the best one in Maryland. I've visited several others--including Langley Park and PG Plaza--but none compare to the quality and service here. At other locations, I've often encountered issues like less-than-fresh food, messy dining areas, long waits for online orders, and stingy sauce policies. Thankfully, none of those problems exist here. The Annapolis restaurant is spotless, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is consistently hot, fresh, and flavorful. They're generous with sauces (a big plus for me), and the entire experience feels well-managed and welcoming. I've been here twice now, and both visits were excellent. There's plenty of parking, which makes it even more convenient. My go-to order is the 4-piece mixed dark meat with yuca, plantains, and a chicken empanada--and every item was cooked perfectly. This is Pollo Campero's newest Maryland location, and it truly does not disappoint. Highly recommended! read more

My visit to Pollo Campero at the Annapolis Mall was a complete disappointment. I pulled into the drive‑thru and sat there for at least five minutes with no one around and no greeting. When someone finally came on the speaker, I was told the nuggets would take ten minutes, so they offered me a chicken sandwich instead. I went with the sandwich, but when I opened it, it was cold. Not fresh, not warm--cold. After waiting that long, that was the last thing I expected. From the slow service to the poor food quality, the whole experience was a fail from beginning to end. Every day this restaurant gets better and better started out a little rocky, but now the quality of the food and service seems to be getting better day by day. I think they got a little overwhelmed when they first opened with the amount of people that showed up within the first month. Consistency and meal prep seems to be getting better as the staff learns how to operate the restaurant. I'll keep you informed. read more

I have wanted to try this place for awhile but wasn't sure it was a good idea since I hadn't heard anyone recommend it. I can honestly say I did not enjoy my experience. I was ignored for quite a few minutes to place my order. I'm not sure what the issue was exactly. The cashier was unfriendly. The chicken was dry and came with no sauce. I read other posts mentioning sauce but was not aware this was an option. The roll came dry without butter. The plantains were good, but that's about it. Do not waste your money here. Went through drive through and got chicken breast meal, nuggets, Mac n cheese, Cole slaw, fries and empanadas. The chicken seasoning was not tasty and the chicken was overcooked and chewy. The fries were probably the worst I've ever had. They were rubbery. Mac n cheese was so gross. The noodles were soft and mushy and the cheese sauce was thick and nasty tasting. The empanadas were ok. I will not purchase food from here again. What a huge disappointment. read more

This was our first visit and having a coupon is what brought us into this fairly new restaurant in the Annapolis area. I reviewed the menu prior to going so I had an idea what we were going to order. Once there we found out that your 8 piece chicken meal if you took it 1/2 fried and 1/2 baked was made up from current pieces of chicken cooked in either style. We tried it both ways and truly enjoyed both styles. Our sides were the rice, French fries and fried plantains . We also tried their chicken empanadas. So being new to fried plantains and empanadas, I can't fairly judge them but we enjoyed both of them. Next time we will probably skip the regular French Fries and stick with the rice. Company was coming on Saturday, and I needed a meal for 9 people! I did not want to cook!! We went to the Amish Market, but the lines were extremely long. My son suggested Pollo Camero! I am so glad he did. The staff was friendly, and the service was great! The young lady who served us made recommendations and we ended up getting 28 pieces of chicken - half roasted half fried. It was DELICIOUS! I am a fan of the roasted - but both were very tasty! All I had to do was make a large salad and get dessert (we did get a chocolate cake from the Amish Market) and the meal was complete! Easy peasy!!!
