It's fast food chicken. They have nuggets and sandwiches. Do I think it's good? Yes it has its moments. Yet don't go in here expecting gourmet. Am grateful it's here, as a quick lunch is possible. Fast food fried chicken with a Mexican spin. The chicken was extremely greasy, but the inside was juicy and wasn't dry at all. The fried skin doesn't use a lot of breading like other fried chicken chains, which I like more. The fried sweet plantains weren't nearly as good as their yuca (tried a couple off my brother's plate) so that was a little disappointing. Dinner roll was from a package you'd find at the grocery store. Overall, I'm not one for fast food like this but I thought I'd try something new. This place has been great but it's plummeted as of late. The food's gotten worse, the service is TERRIBLE, the music's too loud, the lights flicker CONSTANTLY, and none of it's changed for MONTHS. My family and I loved coming here, but for some reason, it just keeps going down. After seeing a mouth-watering commercial, I finally tried Pollo Campero and was really impressed. Being the only gringo in the restaurant, I had a feeling there was some good eats to be had and I was not disappointed! For $11, I got the four piece platter with two sides. I tried both types of chicken and they are both great. The grilled variety has a strong citrus flavor that I loved whereas the fried version was very lightly breaded and wasn't greasy. For my sides I had the rice with corn (pretty good) and the yucca fries (delicious). Muy Delicioso. I'd had take-out Pollo Campero before, but had never sat down to eat there.I love the vibrant colors they have, and the new logo looks fresh. I ordered the 1/4 chicken with yuca and a cuatros leches. The chicken was flavored wonderfully, and the yuca are so much more satisfying than run of the mill fries. I chose horchata as my drink. Normally it's too sweet for me and I have to drink water on the side, but this one was well balanced. It's a great chain. The prices are decent, and the only issue I'd have is that if you go to an independent chicken joint anywhere in Northern VA (Super Pollo ftw), you'll usually get a giant chunk of chicken and a splattering of sides for the exact same price. If portion control is really important to you though, then it might be better that Pollo Campero gives a reasonable plate of food. read more

I've tried this chicken at the Alexandria location before and that's when I fell in love with it. However, this location was off. The chicken was extremely salty and the street corn was soggy and salty. I think I'll stick to the Alexandria or Springfield locations. Northern Virginia is full of Latin American chicken places, so I feel a little lame trying a chain as my first experience with one, but El Pollo Campero turned out to be a good way to ease into a fast food alternative. I specifically wanted to try the grilled chicken and black beans and rice, but was a little confused when I arrived. They have two counters, one right by the front door for dine in orders and another more traditional fast food counter in the back for take out. Feeling a little on the spot, I hastily scanned the menu ordered chicken with beans. When I sat down and saw the larger take-out menu board, I realize that I had ordered fried chicken and baked beans when I really wanted grilled chicken and black beans and rice. Since my order hadn't been processed yet, they changed the order without a problem. The chicken was really good! It was not greasy at all and there was a nice spice with hints of lemon. The beans and rice were cooked perfectly, not too hard but not too mushy either. My only complaint was the set up is confusing. If you're ordering to dine in, you have a small two-sided menu to navigate through, whereas if you're taking it out there is a huge menu board with all of your options to see. The dine in service is a pseudo-table service in that they seat you and bring your food to you, but you still have to get up to get your own drinks and salsas. In the case of my visit, these were clear on the other side of the restaurant, so it would have been easier for me to get my own drink and salsas then seat myself. In terms of salsas, a hot sauce would have been nice as there were jalapenos, a chipotle salsa and salsa verde but nothing like Tabasco or the like. read more

I ordered some food via Grubhub from this chicken place today. I did read reviews before ordering and knew that a lot of reviews talking about order being screwed, but I still gave it a try. Food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. It was very well packed. To my surprise the first container I saw was that of beans (with pork)I never ordered it as it is mentioned on the menu that it contains pork and due to my religion I don't eat it. I threw that immediately away. When I checked what I ordered it did say corn salad but the receipt on the bag says side of beans.. this is something very weird may be management needs to look into it ( pics attached). I also didn't find no dinner roll in my package as well. Since I read about rude behavior of staff I didn't bother to call the restaurant to ask for it. Only thing I know now I won't order from here in future sadly, even though chicken especially the fried one was good. Okay, so this was our first time here. Up until today, Chicken & Steak Las Brasas was our favorite South American chicken place in Northern Virginia. This chicken is AMAZING. They have a very minimal menu consisting of either fried or grilled chicken, boneless wings and empanadas. Their fried chicken beats KFC. It's fresh and juicy but not greasy. But the grilled chicken is so succulent and has a wonderful citrus glaze that was so delicious, it is now our favorite. Yes, it's better than the "Chicken Place" too. I asked what country the recipe comes from and I was told it's Peruvian. I mean, I like this chicken more than El Pollo Loco back in California. Seriously, you need to try this place - you would be hard-pressed to find tastier chicken. Their Yuca fries were cooked to perfection and their black beans were tasty too. We ordered tortillas and they gave us only two small ones. But they made for a couple of tasty soft tacos. They also serve up other sides like plantains, coleslaw, French fries, beans and more. As far as beverages, they offer fountain drinks ranging from lemonade and water to Pepsi products. Don't let the minimal menu selections scare you, the chicken is that good. We will be back for sure. I understand, that for all people, it is a different, and personal experience, BUT. . . Sweet baby jebus, for my Pollo Compero de-flowering, I REALLY liked it. Love? Well, that is a very strong word, but, I LIKED THE HELL OUT OF IT! The set up is kinda weird. I was the only gringo in there, but the place was steady, and pretty full by the time I left. obviously, the place MUST have quite a following with the Latin community, and that was ALL I saw. Even the cashier was skeptical about me(solo gringo) being there, but after a few conversational volleys, we were on the same page. I went with the Numero 3(2 legs and a thigh, tortilla, OR yeast roll, and yucca), and ended up getting 2 thighs, a leg, the yucca, and tortilla. I am NOT complaining. It was AWESOME. I thought that the yeast style roll was an interesting offering, and surprised at the amount of folks going for it. The yucca was THE BEST I have EVER had done, in a "fast food" type setting. Perfectly crispy, yet SUPER fluffy on the inside. Not under-cooked, and tough-fibrous. It was pretty frickin' awesome, as far as yucca goes! The bird: Well. . . while I am a self proclaimed Bon Chon whore, this is cut from a different cloth. I am NOT a KFC fan, and have yet to get into Popeye's, but shit. . .Pollo Compero was REALLY awesome. I really wanted to like this place because I had such a great experience at the Yelp Pollo Campero event. The service at that Yelp event was amazing!!! The staff was so friendly at the event. At the Yelp event, I won a gift certificate for two free personal meals. I was excited to try Pollo Campero again, bc I really thought the food was good (especially like the fried chicken and yuca) after my first experience. So I went to get takeout on a Thursday evening, and the place had some customers, but was not very busy. There was one only cashier, so I waited a few minutes before being able to order - which is totally fine. I don't mind waiting at all, but what I did mind was that the cashier was so rude. I showed her the voucher, and wanted to confirm what I would be able to order. She acted mad that I had the gift certificate. She was in a huff about having to check with the manager, which I don't really understand why that would be my fault. I didn't mind waiting, and when she came back to the cash register, she just started angrily tapping some buttons and swiping cards. I was so confused because I was really being polite. When she did take the order, she didn't even ask us if we wanted tortilla or the rolls, and assumed that I wanted rolls (but I really wanted the tortilla). Anyway, the fried chicken is pretty tasty. I've seen their TV commercials back in the day and I've passed by their store numerous times while driving down Columbia Pike, but this was my first time trying their chicken. Overall, thoroughly impressed and satisfied with a fulfilling meal! I came here at the end of a long weekend for a late dinner with my boyfriend. The wait for orders seemed unusually long for 8:30 PM, but the line moved speedily and most of the people before us were just ordering out or picking up orders. My boyfriend and I ordered the 8-Piece Grilled Chicken Meal (with dark meat only) and an individual order of Yuca Fries (came up to about $15). We decided to stay in and we sat near the front window of the restaurant. Overall, there is plenty of seating (small tables, booths, larger tables for families) and the restaurant was pretty clean for the end of the day. After waiting maybe 10 minutes, a server brought out our order to our table and we dug in. The chicken was delicious! As far as fast food outlets go, I definitely prefer Campero over KFC or Popeye's. The meat tasted fresh (not frozen) and flavorful and the skin was especially well seasoned with a mix of herbs and spices. Because we ordered grilled chicken, the meat wasn't overly oily or heavy. The yuca fries were crisp on the outside (not oily at all) and starchy/soft on the inside. They paired great with the complimentary dipping sauce. As for service, I think some people may be deterred since the store seems to cater to a Spanish-speaking clientele. Don't be! The cashier who took our order was most definitely proficient in English (plus the menu is entirely in English) and the server who brought out our food was the sweetest can be. I definitely give them great kudos on providing quick and warm service even in a fast food setting.
