We went to another location as we wanted to go to a location that is close to us. This place is tiny and confusing as we went the wrong way going in. The inside is nice and clean. Does have an old feel to it though. They do have the salsa bar, but wished they did stock up and sauce more as looks like they were running low. The chips were good, but located on the other side which I found odd. Other than that I enjoyed the food. I ordered regio platter which comes with the al pastor, tortillas, beans and rice. I went here thinking I was going to El Pollo Loco but when I arrived I realized I was at the wrong place. But I stayed anyway. I did a whole chicken takeout. You get a whole chicken, cut into two halves, rice, beans, tortillas, and limes. The cost was $31 including tax in November 2023. The chicken is very flavorful with an adobo seasoning. The tortillas are excellent. The rice is excellent. The beans are spicy but very good. The reason for 4 stars is that the chicken could have been more tender. Service was fast. My first trip in here and I was in a hurry. I was and still am a little uncertain of the name and ownership of this place. A few weeks ago, they painted over the signage. When I went in, they had "OPEN" over the painted over signage. On the menu board, everywhere with the name is now covered over. But the bags and receipt have El Pollo Regio logos. New Ownership? Left over supplies? With that said, the place was being worked upon, it was exceptionally clean. The background music was playing loudly and the TVs was on a Spanish speaking station. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They did answer menu questions and explained what comes with what. I was going to ask about the name but was in a rush. I ordered the half chicken to go. As it came time to pay the just under $10, they could not make change for a $20. After about 3 minutes of the staff trying to get change, I offered to pay with plastic. However, I was feeling adventurous today and wanted to try the carne asada baked potato So disappointing, and the nacho cheese on it was gross! El Regio (pronounced Rekio) serves up smoked (I guess) chicken, on the very cheap, that will make you drool all over yourself. We can't really figure out what they marinade their birds in or how they turn the entire bird a lovely shade of spicy brown. Whatever. We try not to overthink it and just eat it. A whole chicken meal comes with a pile of white corn tortillas, rice, pinto beans (with bits of pork belly-werd!), salsa, 1/2 a lime, a whole grilled onion and the hottest, tastiest green tomatilla-ish sauce you will ever encounter for...wait for it...$12.99. This is no health food, people. This is down-home, home-grown, grease-pit side-of-the-highway food shack food. Just make sure you put the sack in the floorboard and not on your car seat for the drive home. Ignore the neighborhood that these gems usually live in, ignore the broken speaker and the broken English of the window girl. Megan did a good job describing the fare...chargrilled chicken (cooked with that whole onion she mentioned inside), then they are kind enough to cut it up for you---the chicken that is, not the onion. The beans are more like a bean soup and are absolutely AMAZING, but don't pay too close attention, cuz there are some questionable cuts of pork floating around. The tortillas are excellent. Because this large taco does NOT come with any sides, we usually order a bowl of borracho beans, a lovely soupy comforting side dish, a la carte. The chicken quesadilla comes LOADED with the roasted chicken that this place is justifiably famous for, with generous servings of guacamole and sour cream on the side. Try the green creamy salsa, but be warned that it is ADDICTIVE. honestly idk what happened to pollo regio but quality has gone downhill. the employees were unprofessional and loud talking to each other on their phones (makes no sense, but ok? lol) which gave off a terrible feedback noise throughout the restaurant for most of my visit there, and the floors were extremely slippery which is an easy lawsuit for anybody coming in. don't get me started on the food which was awful i was really looking forward to having chicken since i had a taste for it only to be introduced to cold/dry chicken, cold sides, and cold tortillas. honestly the water was the best thing out of the whole experience. won't be dining from this location anytime soon. read more

Review: Restaurant - 2.5/5 - Still old and outdated but clean and internally managed well. Salsa Bar - 4/5 - Stocked but some salsas lacked flavor/salt. Seems to be consistent from prior visit with a wide variety of heat, textures and flavors. You can always add salt. I suggest a mix and match approach. Try them all and go from there. Staff - 4/5 - Cashier is all I met but seems knowledgeable and personable. Food - 1/5 - Terrible at BEST - I went burrito again but went with chicken. Let's just say it was so dry the shredded chicken was like dental floss, there was more tortilla than filling and just lacked flavor. I would have to believe this is 2 day old chicken or it was dreadfully overcooked and dry with no flavor profile. Maybe a hint of flame/smoke. There really was not enough meat to discern anything but dry, dry and well, dried out white meat chicken. Overall - 1.5/5 - Rounded up because someone is maintaining the place, it was 12:30 or so and stocked well, service was friendly and food service time is NOT fast food but it was several minutes to receive my to-go food. Bottom line - I would rather eat fast food that is consistently mediocre and less expensive. I love pollo regio, however; this location is disappointing. The wait is ridiculous. Without explanation, they close the window and make you wait for long periods of time.. I've been there about 3 times and it's always the same thing. I kept giving them a chance due to the convenience of location (they are 5 minutes away from where I work, so it SHOULD be a quick trip during my lunch break), but it always turns out in disappointment. For some reason the same girl is always working, and she's slow. She doesn't talk to you, she just mumbles. They made me so upset, that I started writing this review during my long wait. I saved it as a draft, and I'm finally finishing it. So this is what happened..... I was driving up and the same girl that is always there taking orders was walking around with one of the cooks (this was outside by the way). She appeared to be annoyed that I interrupted her flirting session when I pulled up to the drive through. She made me hold while she made her way inside. She finally took my order and I went up to pay. while I was paying, she kept yelling back and forth with the cook. After I payed she closed the window, and I waited for 13 minutes. Yes, I kept count. I was the only car in the drive through... What could have taken that long? When the window finally opened it was the cook who handed me the food. No apologies.... nothing. I just drove off since I did have to get back to work.. Not only did I wait for so long, also the girl is so slow she couldn't even get my whole order. I did not have time to try to get through to her, so I ignored it. I was just going to take what she was able to get on my order... The food at this location is never up to the standards of other pollo regios... It's ok. Not good, but just ok. If you want to try good regios, try a better location first.
