Hello there. As promised here is an update for Pollo Tropical Miami Lakes. With much trepidation I forced myself to give this place a second chance instead of driving 12 miles out of my way to the one in Miramar. I was pleasantly surprised. The drive thru staff nailed it this time. Clear communication with warm friendly tone, answered questions about the menu and the food handoff was with a smile and everything was in the bag perfectly in order and nice and hot. Pollo you've won my heart again. I don't know what you did but the service was much better. Please keep it consistently because honestly the food is great so the full experience would be complete with service like today. I will come again. Thank you

Burnt sweet plantains that taste stale.

Worst pollo I have ever been to. Don't know if they are understaffed or what but nearly a 45 minute wait for fast food isn't acceptable.

I had a chance to check out their Miami Lakes location Saturday to "balance out" after a cocktail tasting event at nearby venue. Their rotisserie chicken - even the half chicken portion - is pretty sizeable and well flavored with a tasty citrusy, tangy flavor, and the tequenos are my favorite side, right up there with the sweet plantains that came with the chicken. My server was really pleasant and attentive, and they even saved my souvenir bag from the cocktail event. The restaurant itself was clean, well maintained, and with plenty of windows to look out over the Miami Lakes street scene. One thing I would improve is with the extra fee for the nata (butter) sauce to dip the tequenos. It comes with a green sauce (cilantro?) that I am just not a fan off. I did ask my server to take it off and substitute it with the, and found out that it is a bit extra. I mean, it is a substitution. It's not like I'm asking an extra sauce.

Our server was attentive; he provided additional ranch, made suggestions, and passed by the table frequently to make sure our experience was positive. My go-to every time I visit Sports Grill is pretty simple: an order of fries, some special grilled wings, and plenty of celery and ranch. This, accompanied by a Yuengling or two, and you've got a fantastic meal while enjoying the game. The special grilled wings have this underlying spice and charred flavor that's unlike any other wing. They had that crunch on the outside, and the chicken was tender but moist with every bite. My only issue is that the name implies it's grilled and the name could be a bit misleading. A lot of people prefer food be grilled and not fried. While the wing is still enjoyable, the server explained to me that they fry the wings first and then grill them. For the health conscious, this may be a bit of an issue. The fries were fresh and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The ambience is welcoming for your typical family, sports fans, or anyone looking to grab a drink. Obviously, it's a sports bar, so don't expect it to be quiet in here, especially now that football season is right around the corner. That said, with a plethora of plasma televisions, sports decor, a well-stocked bar, and a decent menu, you're sure to enjoy your visit.

When we walked in, it immediately reminded me of the build-your-own style concept (similar to Chipotle but for pizza), which I actually love because you can fully customize everything. The setup is simple: pick your crust, sauce, cheese, and toppings, and they make it right in front of you. The customer service was really good. The staff were friendly, patient, and generous with the toppings. They also had a deal going on if you buy three pizzas, you get two free sides (I believe garlic bread was one of the options), which is a nice bonus if you're dining with a group. I ordered the buffalo barbecue pizza, and my mom went with a veggie pizza. Both came out amazing. The crust was perfectly baked, the flavors were bold, and everything tasted fresh. While they do charge extra for additional toppings, they don't skimp when adding them, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a really delicious and satisfying meal. Great service, customizable options, and solid quality. We'll definitely be back.

Fortunately, a coworker pointed me toward Latin American Grill in Miami Lakes, just a few minutes from our hotel. It turned out to be exactly the sendoff I was hoping for. We started with the Sopa de Pollo, a bowl that made it immediately clear this kitchen isn't interested in shortcuts. Large chunks of chicken, tender vegetables, and noodles floated in a broth with remarkable depth. It wasn't simply chicken soup, it was the kind of soup that makes you wonder why every other version tastes so timid. A squeeze of fresh lime added just enough brightness to wake up every spoonful without distracting from the richness of the broth. Then came the reason for the visit. The Medianoche. I've always preferred the sweeter cousin of the traditional Cuban sandwich, and Latin American Grill makes a terrific one. Thick slices of ham and juicy mojo pork were layered with Swiss cheese, mustard, and pickles before being pressed between soft, sweet bread until the outside turned beautifully crisp. Every ingredient had a purpose. The pork brought richness, the ham added salt, the mustard and pickles cut through the fat with welcome acidity, and the sweet bread tied everything together. It's one of those sandwiches that reminds you how satisfying simplicity can be when every component is done well. Sometimes the best restaurant recommendations don't come from guidebooks or social media. They come from someone who simply says, "You should eat here." In this case, they were absolutely right. A great Cuban sandwich doesn't need reinvention. It just needs great ingredients, careful execution, and a hot press. Latin American Grill delivers all three.
