Worst Pollo Tropical I have ever been to and it's been this way for years. It wasn't uncommon to be stuck in the drive through for over 30 minutes. Sometimes they would randomly close early and put up cones so you couldn't go through the drive through. Food is often forgotten. Yuca is often completely doughy and undercooked. When asked the following time if it could be cooked to crispy I was told "I'll ask" still came out white and undercooked. Last time I was told they were out of tropi-chop chicken and couldn't do any tropi-chops. When asked if I could pay extra for a grilled breast instead was told no. My third trip was to order Family Dinner, ordered online for 5pm, they had NO chicken on a Friday night for dinner hour, didn't get mine til 6:15. My fourth trip was a superior TropiChop bowl. I have been to this place 3 times and have had issues each time. Some of the food tastes decent enough, and the tropichiller is good. BUT, the last time, my sister and I got cuatros leches, and were handed 2 of them that were literally frozen like blocks of ice. When my sister complained, they said that they didn't have any defrosted ones and that they should be okay in about 15 minutes. We got a complementary one to make up for it, but it was really hard to eat. I also tried the tostones, which a waiter told me was very salty and good, and it had literally no flavor. What's worse, there was actually a tiny dead fly on one of them, something that would NEVER be allowed in my restaurant workplace. I am also very disappointed with the lack of friendly service and the lack of a condiment counter. There is nothing but spoons and napkins available....no forks, no sauce bar like Moe's. Upon entering this location, we weren't sure if we were gonna stay. The location is definitely not the cleanest one we been too. The women's bathroom was the worst. The service was ok, not bad but also not great. The food came out in a decent amount of time and besides being out of a sauce that was supposed to be with one of our meals (and wasn't told they were out before ordering) everything else was correct. Back in 2013-2014, there was no better lunch in the state of Florida than Pollo Tropical. Fresh, delicious, cheap...they had it all. They were getting write ups in national publications then. I am not quite sure what's happened since. The prices are still okay but the portion sizes have decreased substantially. The highlight of every visit used to be that big ole' condiment bar in the middle where you could try all sorts of wonderful sauces. That's been completely eliminated, because the people who run this thing probably think we're still in a deadly pandemic nearly 3 years later. If some customer were to touch a hot sauce dispenser who knows, maybe we'd all get sick and the whole world would explode. One can never be too careful! The owners of this place are probably the same types of people who drive alone with their masks on. You now have to request the sauces at the counter which means you have to know exactly what you want going in. Gone are the days of discovery and excitement. This location had one cash register for approximately 2.693 billion lunch hour customers. I won't be able to afford to come here for lunch again if 20 minutes of the experience consist of waiting; because that eats up a big chunk of my break. However, if you want food of such on-the-go quickly, then you'll have to go with a specific chain: Pollo Tropical. Located near the Hammock Landing, the east side of Norfolk Pkwy. next to Buffalo Wild Wings, Pollo Tropical specializes in Caribbean-style food but with a fast food approach. You can get numerous dishes either it be ribs, beef, or chicken along with sides that fit the Caribbean palette such as red beans and rice, corn casserole, cornbread, plantains, and such. The prices for the food aren't bad either as they average the high end of single-digit pricing (so between $6 to $9 for singular menu items of worth). For those who prefer to dine-in, the restaurant is clean and designed to fit the theme. You'll notice plenty of Caribbean themes within Pollo Tropical's interior all centered on a color palette concentrating on yellows and greens. Chairs are not bad but not the most comfortable seating around. Staff is generally friendly. Restrooms are clean. Probably the biggest reason I keep coming back again and again to this place has a lot to do with the ridiculous number of free single-serving chicken meals you get. I don't know if you know this but every time you buy something there, you'll get a coupon for a single-serving chicken meal for free if you follow the instructions for a survey or sign up for text messages, something of that nature. I don't mind a bit of spam for free delicious food so why not. Ultimately, I will say that Pollo Tropical isn't the best Caribbean food out there. I've been to the Caribbean, specifically Nassau, Bahamas, multiple times and the food they have is far superior to what Pollo Tropical can dish out. This location has provided multiple poor experiences. My S.O. was excited to try Pollo Tropical for the first time and I wanted to try the Beyond Meat vegan TropiChop. Unfortunately the website continues to advertise this, yet it is not listed on the online menu. I settled for the veggie TropiChop. We placed the order through Postmates and I found it odd that the individual items were more expensive on there, but the free delivery offset it. The delivery driver texted us to say the restaurant was out of the fried yuca and they would sub in fries (fried yuca was more expensive, and we were not given the chance to select a different side). Our driver ended up getting a flat tire--it happens, not her fault--so we drove out to meet her an hour later. When we opened the food at home, we found that none of the five sauces were packed--just ketchup for the fries. Also, my veggie TropiChop that I selected "all the way" for all toppings came as bowl half filled with yellow rice, onions, and corn. What even? This was $7.35 before tax and I could have gotten a simple side of black beans and rice for less than half that price. My S.O.'s entree came with black beans so I have no idea why mine didn't? I contacted Pollo Tropical's customer service to give them the heads up about these problems. The rep just said they'd forward this along to the district manager and couldn't do anything more because the order was placed through Postmates. Why oh why do I do this to myself. Every time I eat here I say to myself "never again." But once or twice a year I end up giving this place another chance to redeem themselves... but I digress. The toppings bar is no longer in the dining room, and that's a big mistake because their food could use all the help it can get. My ordering experience today was weird. I used the online ordering because I am very picky since I've been placed on a low sodium diet. I thought a grilled chicken and rice would be good and easy, with a side of corn. I wanted to pick it up at the drive through but the online ordering said the drive through wasn't available for online ordering. So I selected dine in ASAP, and when I arrived my food was on the shelf for online orders, which was fine, but there were things missing from my order. Napkins, silverware, sauces and my drink were missing, when I took it to the counter, I was informed that they were out of the drink I ordered (and paid for), and half the sauces. I thought "why would they place the item as ready to go with items missing. I sat down and opened the box and to my horror, I found the tiniest, driest, most anemic piece of grilled chicken. The rice... rice should be easy, but what was in my container was a blob of flavorless goo. The only edible item was the corn. What made things even worse, it seemed like no one cared when I brought it to their attention. I ate the corn and a few bites of chicken smothered with BBQ sauce. Then tossed out the rest of food. I think the food had been sitting around for way too long, pollo should understand that people would be willing to wait for fresh food. I have never been treated so rudely by an employee before as a guest! I was shocked to learn that it was the manager, Cornelius (store #10112) that was treating me so poorly. I was served stale fries that were disgusting, so I drove around and asked for the fry order to be replaced and he said, "drive around" in an irritated tone, he stuck his arm out with the new fries at the window and when I asked him a question he slammed the drive-thru window shut and turned is back towards me. They do not know how to treat customers correctly, they allow their employees to give attitude and talk back to customers. Who says a quick meal on a road trip can't be healthy? Found this little cute little Pollo Tropical in Palm Bay just 1/2 mile west of I-95. We normally don't stop for fast food because it's not healthy and we didn't really want to lose time at a full service restaurant so we settled on PT. So glad we did! It's a cute little place with tables, booths, and even some cute little corner booths, (pictured.). They had a "Saucing Island" full of various sauces, seasonings, and toppings. They also had super cute decor....classic paintings with the subjects all turned into chickens! I wanted to get a picture of my favorite...Chicken Mona Lisa, but there were people sitting in front of it & I didn't want to disturb them. They also had a chicken version of American Gothic, an Andy Warhol style chicken painting & a few more. As for the food; I was trying to stick to my diet so I had a Caribbean grilled chicken breast, and sides of corn and mashed potatoes. Everything was tasty.....some of the other options looked even better but I was trying to be good! Service was pleasant.
