My hubby and I decided to check out Polly's freeze, an ice cream joint we had heard about many times from the locals. We headed over. It was busy and they have fun items like pickle popsicle and Hawaiian hurricane! We had a hamburger, fried mushrooms, root beer, chicken sandwich, and my fave (cherry dip cone). So tasty, and very happily recommended. It's a happy place.

Polly's Freeze is a regional treat, and I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to visit. My family and I stopped after our trip to Bryant's Blueberries. I got an Oreo flurry. My husband got a Polly's Freeze Special (cone rolled in peanuts with vanilla ice cream), and my son got a vanilla soft serve with sprinkles. Polly's Freeze has a walk-up window with its ample menu listed all along the front. It takes a minute to take it all in. And then there are picnic tables and other seating on either side. Our treats were great and hit the spot. The only hiccup was that they took 25 minutes or so to come out. We ended up asking about our order, and we found out that our order was put with the hot food orders, not ice cream. So if it's taking a bit, you might want to inquire.

About 3 months ago, we relocated to the southeastern area of Indiana from southcentral Kentucky. The first several days of unpacking all suggested "You must try Polly's Freeze! It's a landmark site! You'll love the food, ice cream, and atmosphere!" We did and we did! We visited frequently and made certain we stopped on their last day (they close for the winter months) to get our "ice cream and Polly Burger fixes" hoping it gets us through the winter!

Orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream twist what better way to celebrate summer

What better way to celebrate a sunny summer Sunday than to take a drive to Mellwood Indiana and visit one of the best local establishments in southern Indiana. You can get virtually anything here from corndog all the way to a hot fudge sundae or frozen banana. I always opt for the orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream twist. Need something to do a a Sunday afternoon? How about putting the kids in the car and come on down ! you will not be sorry.

This place is a yearly tradition when we come out from Kansas City to visit family. The ice cream is excellent and you can't beat the retro ice cream stand vibes. Kids love it too!

Even though it's only open a few months a year...absence makes the heart grown fonder. It's a community staple and I go way too often when it's open. Their food is not healthy but delicious...and they have every type of frozen treat you can think of. My personal favorite is the sherbet that changes flavors frequently and the upside down banana split.

Cheeseburger meal and a peanut butter sundae.

This is an awesome neighborhood spot! It's a small dairy freeze that is totally a mom & pop restaurant. I got a cheeseburger meal with a peanut butter sundae. Yeah, I said peanut butter. It was very tasty. There is no seating inside but that's 100% part of the charm of Polly's. Several families were eating their lunch while I was waiting my meal to be prepared. My only issue was that no one seemed in any hurry to get meals out to customers. I did see a sign while I waited in anticipation for my number to be called that they accept online orders. I'll do that next time but I'll definitely be back. No frills -- just a good dose of nostalgia.
