Hellooo Smoked Bacon Flavored Chips Ftw!!

I must've died and went straight to Polish Meat Market Heaven because this place is the real freakin deal over here. Meats!! Meats!! Glorious Meats!! everywhere you look is some kind of Seasoned, Smoked, Cured, Marinated, or Pickled Meat. So you'll have to forgive me for all this hype I'm sending out for this place but believe me when I tell you it's all totally justifiable.   And as you would expect they also prepare traditional homemade foods like Pierogi [Dumplings], Kielbasa Kapusta [Kielbasi with Sauerkraut], Bigos [Hunter's Stew], Gotąbki [Cabbage Rolls], and do not forget the Placki Ziemniaczane [Potato Pancakes].    Polski Smak also offers a nice selection of Prepared Foods, Pantry Items, Dairy, and imported Chocolates direct from Poland that you just can't find anywhere else. Come And Get Your Munchski On!!

I'm Polish so I had to stop here for some cold cuts and goodies before Easter. It's a small deli but it smells so good once you walk in. They have a sandwich menu which is great for the local businesses and offices. I got their ham off the bone and it was delicious. It is significantly a bit more expensive than my usual spots in Clifton and Garfield but quality is good.

Well, the food may not be as good as the food your Babci made but it is dam good. This small deli specializes in Eastern European cuisine, They have favorites like pierogi (mushroom, cabbage, sauerkraut, cheese ), letcko, babka, golabki, garlic sausages, poppy seed rolls (one of my favorites), blintzes, paczki (donuts) and a killer kielbasa. They also have other imported products and condiments from Europe. They have a full service meat department and make great sandwiches at more than reasonable prices. The stuffed cabbage is really good, as are their other hot food offerings. If you are in the area, they offer daily diner entrees featuring a meat with two side dishes served with or without soup for less than $10. Since I am close by, Polski Smak is my go to Polish deli.

(clockwise): blueberry pierogi, potato/cheese pierogi, Moscow ham. (middle): wedding kielbasy and kabanosy.

Seating was minimal - they had about 2 tables with 4 chairs each and some stools and side seating. Ordering was quick and easy and they have different sets too. We ordered a bit of everything to share amongst us 4. Everything was delicious but I especially loved the kielbasa. the outer skin was so crisp and it was overall juicy when you bit down with enough flavor. We got the beet salad with it and the slight tartness of the beets really complements the whole meal. We noticed they were super busy with take out and phone orders. They also have a refrigerated section where you can buy frozen products to cook at home, and a small grocery section with regional snacks.

There are several pierogi's to choose from as well as full plates, with sausage, salad and potato. My wife ordered 6 of the cheddar cheese pierogi (boiled) and I order 6 of the farmer cheese (fried). Both were served with sauerkraut and sour cream... and honestly each of them were awesome! After lunch, we grabbed some of the fresh pierogi's from the cooler to take home. Well worth it to take some togo for another meal. We will be back again -- and again...

The young man that charged our order was the sweetest and served everyone with a smile. I wanted to taste Pierogis as I always heard about them so I ordered a variety of them with sour cream. They reminded me of steamed Chinese Dumplings but with different fillings...beef, cheese, mushroom & sauerkraut, cheese & potato. My favorite was the potato & cheese. Hubby had an amazing fresh & huge Chicken Cutlet sandwich...yummy! Last the prices are truly reasonable.

The menu requires some knowledge of Polish food with some offerings being familiar while others may require some exploration. We were two couples dining on a weekday evening. Two people had plum stuffed pork which was very good, one had the pork loin and broccoli which was also good. I had the schnitzel which was not to be confused with German or Austrian schnitzel. It was two small loaves of a mix of beef and pork which resembled more of a meatloaf. It was a bit bland but satisfactory. It came with mashed potatoes. Several sides of Polish sauerkraut, beet salad, and what appeared to be a fermented carrot salad were included. We shared an appetizer platter of pirogies, kielbasa, and something I couldn't identify, but it was all very tasty. This is not BYOB because they have a full bar. The ambiance has a Bavarian flavor and is squeaky clean and neat. The food is hearty and flavorful im what I would describe as peasant style. The service is excellent as they seem to want you to have a good experience. Reservations are required on weekends.

It was my time to expose my friend group to Polish cuisine, and boy is this the place to do it! We were immediately greeted by the authentic decor, furniture, and outdoor space of a Highlander restaurant in Poland. The furniture is hand carved and there are outfits and decorations straight from the motherland. You feel like you are in your grandmother's home- and in a good way! There is something to look at and admire around every corner. Our waitress was so welcoming and patient while we decided on a variety of orders. She greeted us with a warm smile, gave us plenty of time to select from the menu, and provided top-notch recommendations. The food - don't get me started. This is as good, if not better, than what I eat in Poland. We tried soups (the żurek- sour, but not overwhelming, well presented in a bread bowl, and with delicious boiled egg- and the red barszcz- a tangy beet soup), a "sampler platter" with gołąbki (mini stuffed cabbage with tomato sauce for pouring to your liking), and grilled kielbasa. We also opted for the rye bread, lard, and half sour pickles. Sounds odd, but don't knock it till you try it! It's not what you expect, very rich and filling. For my entrée, I had a thinly sliced breaded pork cutlet with mashed potatoes on the side and "mizeria" (Polish side salad with cucumbers, dill, and sour cream). It was so fresh and light. I loved it because it reminded me of summers with my grandma. The drinks were colorful, well presented, and strong! Definitely worth their $12+ price. Overall, this spot is a hit. There is plenty of parking on the street or across the street at the library. Everything from the service, ambiance, presentation, to the freshness and taste of the food was top-notch. This is the spot to visit if you want real Polish food. We will be coming back!

The potato pancakes were nice sized, six to the plate and split even to the three of us. The kielbasa over sauerkraut was delicious. The kraut was almost sweet tasting. Breaded and crispy fried chicken cutlet wrapped around cheese. When you cut it open the cheese just poured out and made a fantastic dipping sauce. So much so we each used it as a dipping sauce for the chicken cutlet after the Devolay was all gone. More people need to go to this place. It is awesome for some feels like home cooking.

The first visit, we ordered way too much food, as we weren't familiar with how generous the portions were. The Polish Platter comes with Kielbasa, Stuffed Cabbage, potato pancakes, pierogis, and warm sauerkraut that also has chicken and kielbasa included. That alone is usually enough for two people. The beef goulash was tasty, came with mashed potatoes, but was a bit salty. For the subsequent order, we just got a single Polish Platter to split between the two of us and an order of cheese blintzes. Everything was easily an 8/10, save for the goulash. Krakus will definitely be part of our regular takeout rotation moving forward, and I'd definitely recommend them.
